Umm...could someone please tell me what's happening?
Did I save Ayanami?
Nah, she's a clone, you're all good. Her memory will boot into a new hard drive, and that will be put into a new body.
Don't worry about it kid, girls break all the time. Just be more careful next time.
It's been 14 years and we all hate you, now go back to your cell you little shit.
Oh, and sins. Gotta say the word sins for some reason.
I don't understand, fourteen years? What happened? Where's Ayanami?
>I don't understand
WE FUCKING KNOW
Look kid, just give up and become a concert Cellist. That way your dad will be proud of you. Also, stop hanging out with that gay pianist. He gives me , er, your dad the creeps.
Choke on a thousand dicks and die, Shinji.
Ikari-kun, these guys is dicks. Come with me.
No, Shinji, you little fucking monster, don't go with her. Stay with us so we can lock you up in a cell with a bomb strapped to your neck for the foreseeable future!
shinji-kun, get in the eva
don't worry, i'll be fine
Could...could everyone calm down a second and just tell me what's happening?
SHUT UP, BRAT SHINJI!
REDEEM YOUR SINS!
>Shinji is trying to get the spears
>Asuka and Mari show up to fight him to stop him from getting the spears
>he keeps asking why they're fighting him and saying he can put things the way they were if he gets the spears
>no one thinks to tell him taking the spears would begin fourth impact
Asuka was just yelling and trying to, let's say "harm" Shinji for not getting into translations discussions. Shinji wanted to talk but Asuka went full bitch mode
Asuka never tried to kill herself and it was just rust, amirite Asukafags?
welcome to evangelion please enjoy the ride
>pretty much tells him
No. None of this "pretty much" bullshit. Saying Rei is gone is not an explanation. Calling him baka isn't telling him the spears will start a new impact.
The Rebuild films should be shown in communication classes for its wonderful examples of communication failure.
>kaworu keeps repeating that they should stop
>shinji disregards a being that is beyond human understanding, and grabs the weapons that go beyond human control
I WARNED YOU ABOUT SPEARS, BRO
lets go down the terminal dogma, shinji and pull on them spears
nothing can go wrong as long as we're in our co-op gundam
i mean evangelion
This everyone told him to stop. He didn't because he's a self entitled brat. He should have his head blown off, but Kaworu had to coddle him and take the fall for his actions.
Nothing is Asuka's fault. She's a pure perfect angel
Nothing is Kaworu's fault. He's a pure perfect angel
>In somedark place, Anno is saying "Keikaku dorii"
I like Shinji in NGE, Manga and even EoE, but his characterization in Rebuild is of an unlikeable self-entitled jerk who refuses to listen to people and gets others killed. Rei's death is on his head too. He was crying about his daddy issues and he didn't give a fuck about leaving her to die knowing the angels will attack and her Eva is cripple while Asuka was a goner.
Tsurumaki points this shit out in an interview that Anno said Shinji was being a selfish fuck. He's no better than his father. It takes the death of people for him to snap out.
It's a little too late to lament, fucker.
don't make me go all po-mo on your ass
Why pretty much, when you can just speak into the mic
>"Hi Shinji, sorry for dropping down. No, don't be startled, I am not here to attack you. Now, I need to stop walking towards the spears. Why? Because once you pull it, another Impact would happen. What do I mean? Don't worry, let's just sit down and I'll explain to you. Look, no weapons. Trust me."
Is it that hard?
It shows in 2.22. Misato and everyone else tries to reach him out, Shinji abandons all of them because muh daddy issues, endangering humanity (because he knows Nerv mission) and his friends without any regard for them. Then he regrets it after Rei's eaten.
You can't redo, she was dead. He should have cope with the consequences of his actions. 2.0 and 3.0 were about this: he took a choice, he should have learned to live with it. Instead of trying to undo it which resulted in more people dead and more impacts.
Something is called characterization. You can't overwrite a character's personality for your self insert and bend reality. Asuka's a bitch and she's always been a bitch but she told him.
He didn't want to listen.
i can't believe that all these eva characters keep behaving like they're immature jerks!
Maybe it's a cultural difference between America and Japan, but I find it hard to blame Shinji for anything that happened, mainly because he didn't understand any of it and no one ever tried to help him understand.
He was thrown into an extremely dangerous situation he didn't understand, with no training and no explanation, while being explicitly manipulated into his actions by an abusive father.
I guess in Japan it's more common and culturally accepted to not know anything but your specific task and to keep your head down and do what you're told.
>for your self insert
Nobody implied that. There were fucking minutes of time where Asuka could have just put her hands up and go (in-character, if you like it so much)
>LISTEN BAKA SHINJI, I HAVE SOMETHING TO TELL YOU AND ITS IMPORTANT, SO WILL YOU PLEASE JUST LISTEN FOR A MINUTE
And Shinji being the beta pussy that he is, he would be quiet for a while.
>Shinji abandons all of them because muh daddy issues
He abandons them because he was forced to watch while his Eva, under the control of the Dummy plug, violently ripped apart Asuka's Eva and crushed her pod.
Gendo is held guilty and accountable. It's not like the plot is making him anything less than a villain, but Shinji is failing to be different from Gendo and keeps fucking up.
That's what you should wait for him to do: to grow up and mature. Instead of coddling him and thinking how he's "oppressed." He fucking isn't. Wille went too light on him for what he did, even if it wasn't his intention. In real life, he would have been beaten to death by a mob of apocalyptic survivors. Kaworu holds him on a ridiculous high pillar and he would have done everything he could for him, he didn't give a fuck about his sins. Asuka would have come around eventually, or she would have left him to die.
Shinji just can't see people. He closes up. He is fairly spoiled and very self-centered to bend to fucking world to his whims.
>He abandons them because he was forced to watch while his Eva, under the control of the Dummy plug, violently ripped apart Asuka's Eva and crushed her pod.
No, he abandoned them because he's angry with his father. He covered this in his train scene. He didn't give a fuck about Asuka, he also abandoned her, and didn't go to see her or asked about her condition.
It was all about his father.
>Shinji is failing to be different from Gendo
Again: I can only blame Shinji for bad decisions if he's given the information he needs to make a good one. At no point does Shinji ever have the information he needs to avoid a world-shatteringly bad decision.
It's like a newborn child hitting the launch button on a nuclear missile. It doesn't know what it's fucking doing, so how can you possibly blame it for the destruction it caused?
do you even know what that word means
He's been emotionally abused since he was fucking born
He's not a newborn child. He's the protagonist and hero of this story. He's been told no by all his allies and he still goes with it. In 2.0, he acts like a cunt because his father betrayed him and refuses to be the bigger man then pretends he can make it all better. Newflash: you can't undo the results of your actions.
>He's not a newborn child.
Sorry, are analogies too hard for you?
> He's been told no by all his allies and he still goes with it
People about to lock you up in prison for the rest of your life aren't allies, and "no" is not information.
It's like you watched a completely different film.
>you can't undo
Am I the only one who thoroughly enjoyed watching Shinji get BTFO in 3.0? Deep down we all wanted to see that pussy suffer for refusing to get a grip. (Y'know, by accepting reality and not trying in vain to bring back the dead at the expense of everyone else.) In fact, you were given numerous chances to change. You only had to listen.
HAHAHAHA suck it down Shiji, nobody likes you.
SHINJI GET IN METAL GEAR?
The Ayanami you know is dead.
She's also a clone of your mother. Nerv has been manufacturing Ayanamis while you were gone, Shinji.
Also, when you saved Ayanami, you started third impact. Almost everything on the planet is dead because of you.
Now go out there and start another catastrophe because you can't handle the truth, faggot.
Well maybe, if you
wasted your time watching evangelion.
It's not so much that Japanese superiors aren't willing to share information with those that are lower on their scale, but they have this weird communist society thing where if you aren't working with the group and you go off to do you own thing, then you're a selfish cunt and a shameful display to the company your work for.
Basically, if you aren't for the collective or aren't part of the collective, then commit suicide.
They also have this skewed and righteous view of their elders, or those that are older or more experienced than others in age, business, etc in that they're always right and can do no wrong.
>No, he abandoned them because he's angry with his father.
Are you dumb or something?
Why do you think he's angry with his father?
>hrr he dun care about mai waifu
Holy fuck you nimrod. Everything he says or does is entirely against that, he refuses to hurt Asuka in the first place, and Asuka isn't in a condition where he can visit or know anything.
First thing he says when he sees her is "Thank god you're all right Asuka!".
It's like you don't understand the concept of confliction emotions.
People like you (and most Asukafags because they think exactly like you do about the issue) are the worst fucking people. No judgment.
People change anon.
The Anno of today is very different from the Anno of 20 years ago.
Like anyone who gains immense success or power, their mindset changes with their social status.
How about BDs of the original series? Oh of course not, Anno needs to prove how he's now different from way back and show his new status by making a new "masterpiece" to milk your huge fanbase. Hmm.. where have I heard that before?
which one is worst at saving the world shinji or superman?
>He's fairly spoiled.
What. He's got emotional scars all over. I can maybe give you self-centered. But, to be fucking honest. He had taken care of a bunch of Angels before at NERV's behest, when he could have just left. Sure he did it for the praise, but they still gave him the Eva and asked him to kill them and he appeased the entire facility. You don't get to ask a 14 year old boy to do that and consistently treat him like an expendable without expecting him to eventually really fucking walk out on your ass. NERV got exactly what it deserved. I'm not talking about every member of the organization. I mean the higher ups, the people who actually know what's going on. . . Specifically Gendou, since I doubt Ritsuko would have condoned use of the Dummy Plug, which is really what lead to his huge fit and subsequent walking out.
>Asuka is his favorite NGE character because "she's cute"
>Series creator has shit taste
And people are still calling him beta.
>series creator has shit taste
>made a cop out of the last two episodes
>constantly complains about how NGE is nothing deeper than what you see despite EoE being a solid chunk of bizarre imagery
Speaking of Evangelion, I literally just finished watching the original series; the last two episodes were great. Is End of Evangelion and improvement on the shows ending or is it a disservice to it?
Ayanami is inside an angel, who's fuck knows where. it probably ended up fusing with your Eva. Which is weird since the eva you pilot is actually fused with your mom, and Ayanami is a clone of your mom. So you've been 14 years inside a giant alien god disguised as a robot, who's fused with your mom, and maybe ayanami and that angel too. Btw, you killed everyone except some of the only people you knew who now hate you. And there's a gay/assexual angel/kid waiting for you. He's going to give you piano lessons and do gay stuff with you.
Oh, and it's also worth noting that your dad is evil - which you REALLY should have figured out for yourself by now - and that he's working for a cabal of old people trying to become immortal space-gods and turn the world into tang.
Also, Asuka hates you too. No, she never does exactly say why.
Excuse me, but what part of "3.33 is a contrived piece of shit" do you not understand?
There is no reason for anything whatsoever, any question you ask now can be handwaved away by any kind of arbitrary bullshit.
>Hey, if she's in EVA01, why didn't she communicate?
....well you see, the ciatrontion radiation was blocking any suma-telepathic pseudo-waves.
>....okay, on that topic, why isn't Rei getting out of EVA01 with Shinji? Is it because you want her out of the way?
Haha, nothing of the sort, friend! It's because the soul-constrain-limiters were set to durandium-mode on the EVA, which means every person with a name starting with "R" and ending with "i" is locked inside!
>...okay but why does the SDAT get out?
doesn't start with an R.
The 2.22 end credits preview show Rei outside of the Eva and accompanied by four younger clones.
If the theory about the preview being a teaser for the events preceding the 3.0 time skip is true, then this would imply that Rei was taken out of eva01, leaving only Shinji and the SDAT stuck there. I doubt Yui was in there either or else Shinji's sync rate wouldn't have been 0%.
NGE wasn't arbitrary bullshit.
Things like the origin of the Angels never was the point.
This is simple shit like "where the fuck is this character even at", in NGE we knew.
Don't pull that card. Only ignoramuses do that.
NGE didn't have a timeskip.
NGE didn't have Shinji triggering impacts.
NGE didn't have Shinji becoming a master-pianist in no time.
NGE didn't have flying battle-ships.
NGE didn't have transforming EVA's.
NGE didn't have "true evangelions".
What NGE had wasn't arbitrary, it was simple, straight to the point stuff. There's no main characters that disappear or changes abruptly due to a timeskip or anything inexplicable.
What NGE had was backstory episodes for NERV(Gehirn) and even side-characters.
Rebuild doesn't even have that for their main characters.
EoE only finished the story, and NGE2 did absolutely fucking nothing but add some B-Movie tier sci-fi to the origin of Adam/Lilith.
Which was completely unnecessary and changed nothing in the original.
It was going to be more plot-heavy but then Anno didn't know where to go with it.
He didn't know what the fuck he was doing with the plot at the time, he was writing half of it as he went along. Important plot devices like Rei being Lilith were thrown in at the last minute, and they substituted for in-depth psychological evaluations when they began running out of Budget. Even Anno admits that he never really wanted the show to take a character analysis route to begin with.
How is that relevant? What matters is the result, which ended up more solid than Rebuild will ever be at this stage.
That character-analysis portion and the backstory-segments explaining not just individual backstories, but the story behind NERV are parts that explain and solidify the setting.
The characters become more realistic, more understandable, and get to have value in themselves.
Even if this was all a major fluke, which is very likely in my opinion, it turned out well.
All's well that ends well.
>What NGE had wasn't arbitrary, it was simple, straight to the point stuff
lol. The only stuff that was simple and straight to the point were the main messages.
No, it had some other confusing shit that remained unanswered for a while though.
>lol. The only stuff that was simple and straight to the point were the main messages.
Everything is fairly simple and straight to the point. It's just more than your average anime-goer is used to.
>No, it had some other confusing shit that remained unanswered for a while though.
Like what, really? None of it is actually relevant enough to make things not understandable.
None of which can even compared to what Rebuild has going on.
Then Eva is nothing special anymore. If Rebuild was made before NGE, nobody would remembered it. Just ask Otaking
>To me, Eva was all about "Since I can't do anything about changing the world, I will do something about myself." Don't you think "robot anime" is all about "trying to change the world"? Morikawa-san, you talked about the apocalyptic. One step before that is "social reform" (yo-naoshi). One of the key concepts for understanding otaku is "a child's sense of justice." The reason grown-ups are enthusiastic about Kamen Rider and the "warrior team" genre (sentai mono) is because that basic sense of justice, which we abandoned in society a long time ago, is still meaningful in the world of these TV shows. Of course, there's also the terrific monster designs and pan-chira [the fleeting display of girls' panties], but that's not enough to keep the boys interested. That basic sense of justice worked until Eva. But with Eva, it became clear that no one could save the world. And Eva complicated the whole thing, raising issues such as "Maybe I should at least save myself" and "What's wrong with me, thinking only about saving myself?" Eva marked a turning point. Whatever we discuss today, we cannot avoid Eva
>haven't seen Evangelion Rebuild #3
>reading this http://wiki.evageeks.org/Evangelion_3.0:_You_Can_%28Not%29_Redo
Anno, wtf m8?
Being an EVA-fan back then meant you had a limited canon to refer to. It was very detailed, and good at that.
But it was also very interesting to make theories around, but that came on top of already great characters and plot.
Now did that mean you didn't have absolute massive retards making theories? No. There are always those, from fanbases such as MLP to The Godfather.
You have them today as well. You can't help that.
It hasn't been special since post-EoE.
It's all about making money and milking the cash cow now. Like Gundam.
Sure, there may be some message that has something to say, but Anno's really doing it to fund this new studio.
Trust me, Shinji, practically ALL of us are wondering that exact same thing.
so I just got these, what should be my watch order? I know I should start and end with asuka route, what about everything inbetween?
The purpose of the spears is a a general purpose "oh fuck" switch to SHUT OFF impact events, kill angels, destroy seeds, and general undo the protoculture bullshit.
They were made SPECIFICALLY to prevent the shit that is happening on earth, and came with VERY CLEAR INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO USE THEM.
Nobody uses them though, because humans are full of hubris and think they can manipulate an impact event to make magic happen.
I actually thought that Eva discussions weren't all that interesting back then, because people would focus on the characters and their feeling/personalities being the main point of the series. Actually, that was the way Anno wanted it to be. Evangelion was intended for introverted anime fans who never go outside, and the rest of the sci-fi stuff might have been secondary.
It was a purer, more innocent time, but there was plenty of other focus as well.
I totally disagree if you mean that the sci-fi stuff wasn't as interesting. The original anime plus EoE made for the most serious of discussions.
You could discuss the real sci-fi, the things and concepts of humanity all great novels and writers touch upon. We had the concept of a "hive-mind" coupled with the individual fragility of man, making up for a dilemma between eternal peaceful but non-individualistic existence, and individual conflicted existence.
The thing is that it all felt real with NGE - it felt like good sci-fi, and to a degree, it really was. Diving into man having technology not meant for them, all those interesting and meaningful concepts that are just gone with Rebuild.
Because Rebuild is about waifus and Anno making sure his waifus look good and those who are not his waifus are shit.
Then the sci-fi stuff now is just regular garbage with no real meaning. The terribly cliched and cheap "loop" idea you see in every shoddy mass-produced sci-fi work.
Noone takes it seriously either. It's just a device to put waifus on screen, and that's it.
Let me quote Wes Anderson about NGE;
>we watched them all in less than a week because you start to want to believe it's real. This could spawn something like Scientology.
It's well done to the point where you might actually start to believe it, and it's ideas. The polar opposite of what Rebuild is.
everybody except Gendo and Rei were on crazy pills or did jack shit.
>Misato and the others explained jack shit
>Misato should have killed Shinji when 00 showed up and was in her right to
>Kaworu shouldn't have put on the bomb collar
>Asuka and Mari should have made sweet lesbian love
>SEELE did jack shit and just let Gendo win
Even porn writers put more thought into this.
>fight where they have to catch that falling angel
>Shinji destroys shit left and right by just running
>angel explodes taking out most of the city
Seriously how much collateral damage did he just cause?
I get that he is supposed to prevent angels from merging with Lilith but didn't they tell him that he's protecting the city?
Um anon I have bad news for you
The city's are evacuated
Did anyone play Threcconed Impact?
>mfw I didn't realize sooner
What did I do wrong NOTHING! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
WHERE DID THAT GREY GUY WITH THE PIANO GO!
Not so much a sequence as the entire show.
>Curse of Eva is Anno trying to hint at the idea of infinite Jelly-Ons once he steps out
>Ending reveals this more implicitly
>Shinji, Asuka, Mari, Rei and Misato+crew stuck on a boat for years
who the fuck cares if you saved Ayanami or not, she's not even a real person
I've been defending Shinji for almost fifteen years. He's just a kid. He's a good person that does his best and fights insanely hard to protect others, and the only people that make fun of him are immature jackasses that don't like how much of themselves they see in him.
I have nothing but contempt for his actions in that scene, though. (Fuck, even Kaworu, who Shinji had co-dependencied upon, was telling him to stop. The one time he decides to ignore that urge. Good job, Shinji.)
YOU GUYS WERE TELLING ME TO DO NOTHING AT ALL JUST LAST WEEK! MAKE UP YOUR MINDS!
I'm sure. They were attacking him and sending his adrenaline skyrocketing. He's already retreated into his shell by that point, anybody who actually condemns Shinji there is mislead or a fool.
If your me who's standing here?
But if you were me, what does that make me?
If Curse of Eva grants eternal youth, why didn't all of Nerv shower themselves in LCL?
Why isn't everyone fighting for it?
Where did Nerv even get the LCL? Did they do a controlled second impact and tang a few people to get enough to fill the Evas with?
Not him, but the ending was kind of an asspull.
>lol almost third impact. oh wait, Kowaru's on the moon and here to save the day with the spear of longinus that got trapped in space
I had high hopes for 3.0 to continue that, but it keeps
"I'll make you happy.... in 14 years. Brb"
He does, regardless of gendo's manipulation, shinji still willingly chose to take a military weapon for personal use and edned up destorying the world with it.
Its basically like saying "im sorry i didn't know the bomb I took was really a nuke, but I shouldn't be held accountable since my boss said it was a good idea!"
Why didn't Kaworu take off the choker while it was activating?
He refuses Kaworu three times and also cuts off his controls, the latter of which is a conscious, rational decision. It wasn't on a whim, he blantantly didn't want anyone to interfere.
I bet that was Gendou cutting off the controls. His plan basically hinged on that factor so he had to make sure that Kaworu could neither interfere with his angel powers nor escape the plug later on during the impact.
