>>111808323 I remember in one of them there was a mech called White Glint that was a mercenary or something and he was being a real pain in the ass to whatever you were doing. Let's face it, it wouldn't be hard to fill in a story around that and make an ok anime, so long as the combat scenes are done really well.
>>111808713 They didn't want things to be too cluttered while they tested out that team based combat bullshit. Cute idea, but it just didn't work out right. Space mechs would make me well hard, though.
>>111808323 Yeah, the four series actually has a pretty good storyline. The translation was really fucked up so most people just glossed over it. The stories for the 1-3 generations are decent, although I can't remember much about them since it's been quite a while since I've played them. Then the 5''s generation storyline is nothing to write home about, online is fun though.
>>111808343 Not really, although they share the whole difficultly part. They're pretty great games if you're into mecha and customization though. Lots of gameplay depth in them and 10/10 soundtracks. If you want more info you can check out the armored core general's pastebin on /vg/
>>111808713 At the end of verdict day it's kind of implied that FA happens before V, but one of the endings where the cradles fall and everything goes to shit is canon. Basically, the technology from FA is lost and that's why no more sanic speed ACs. ACVD is still a lot of fun though, I actually like the way the ACs are in V than in 4. I totally get the appeal in the 4 series ACs though.
>>111808713 Have to disagree with you there, I think Last Raven was the high point of the series so far. It had the perfect level of challenge for a vet, the story arcs/missions were great and the mechanics felt like they hit a sweet spot for the ps2 era games.
ACFA was good, no doubt, but I just didn't like the pacing and art direction. The story and missions were forgettable IMO.
As an aside: Silent Line takes second place and Quick Boosting was some annoying bullshit to me.
>Armored Core anime done in the style of Cowboy Bebop when?
>>111809036 >>111809020 Armored core games have a story but there are buried under a mountain of bad translations and supplementary material outside of game media. ACV to ACVD was basically told by a novel or a facebook post or something
>>111809247 No thank you. I don't want to watch Strike Witches: Ace Combat Edition.
There's already enough shitty Strike Witches/Ace Combat crossover art as is.
I know it sells better, that just pisses me off more that those faggots can't handle any medium without drowning it in cutesiness, pantsu or other stuff like that. It's kinda like adding sauce to steak. A bit properly spread out gives it more flavor, dumping half the bottle on it means you're better off just drinking the damn thing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wj_3ZNxGm20&list=PLA485BB84393FFBCA&index=1 >armored core highschool romcom never
>>111809077 It's too bad that FA didn't have dedicated servers so there were a bunch of laggy fucks everywhere. Why you got to go and remind me of all those lag bladers, anon?
>>111809213 Yeah, a lot of V/VD's story was told outside of the game on From Soft's armoredcorelink website. I think they also ended up putting the translated version on the armored core english facebook's page too.
>>111809248 There was that final fantasy tactics thread on here a little while ago. That was a good thread.
>>111809492 No Anon. The Steaks are the military drama and hardware porn.
The sauce is Kei Nagase and MUH PEACE, or injected cutesiness relief stuff.
Added sparingly it'll actually better the quality of the show. Drown the steak in it the way turning an Ace Combat show into Not-Strike Witches/LIKE KANCOLLE WITH PLANES! will make it pointless to even try the steak because you've missed the fucking point of sauce on steak.
I could dump, but honestly if I were to go over anything with appropriate detail it'd take hours of typing and several brickwall posts. It's like this neo-cyberpunk intrigue storyline that reads like something out of a radicalist postmodern polisci textbook, and all of it serves entirely as just a backdrop to what is essentially a super simple 'mercenary gets caught up in something bigger than themselves and is manipulated without knowing it' plot.
One of the things that makes it so cool is that none of the setting really makes much of an impact to the personal story of the MC outside of 'this is something for me to shoot', but the actual backdrop is so insanely complex. The entire 1st half of the game has you fighting various insurgent groups, and while the hints are there, never reveals directly or explains that all of these insurgent groups are secretly proxies for one surreptitious faction that's trying to start a war under very specific pretext.
Probably the best part about it is that, canonically the MC and cast never actually learn this, and spend the entire game essentially fighting for the bad guys without ever knowing that there was actually a good or bad side to the whole conflict. You're all just drones swept up in the tides of war and don't even realize that you were the badguys until the final mission.
If the story was ever adapted, it would have to use an ensemble cast, showing the political machinations within the 6 companies. The MC's focus was far too narrow to really have a good understanding of everything that was going on in that game.
>>111808323 The first game's story revolved around how these basically mega corporations ran everything and employed the Ravens to carry out jobs to do anything, like sabotaging competitors, guarding shipments etc. I forget what the end storyline for 1 was, something about bio weaponry and illegal shit going on.
It would basically be something of a mercenary story.
>>111809672 I don't want to play a fucking game about mechs that can fly and air-dash forever. I want the old games, where you could roll in at the speed of slow with fucking tank treads and 50 bazookas, or jump around quickly with light legs. Note that "quickly" in this instance is about 20 times slower than that horrible clusterfuck of missile spam.
>>111809717 I'd personally recommend starting with a game like AC2 or 3, then playing through the other PS2 titles like Nexus. AC1 for the PS1 was great fun for the time, but it's aged a lot and probably isn't as good today.
>>111809730 The whole AC1 arc was basically muh nineball and setting up the whole idea that humanity was being ruled and manipulated by an AI intelligence way beyond us, which is a theme that carries through every single generation of AC game.
>>111809459 Blading was like all of the fun of the 4-series AC games, though. I came buckets when I learned they;d made blades viable in gun matches in ACfA and fucking ran that leaderboard for a while until they had that huge balance patch that slowed the game down a tonne
Why you gotta hate on the laggy bladers? Wasn't our fault the game couldn't keep up.
>>111809817 Too little, too fucking late, in my opinion. You don't just systematically destroy the series over multiple iterations and then panic when you realise you've lost all your old fans along the way.
I couldn't give a fuck about squad based multiplayer, they'll probably kill the servers in a year like they did with Chromehounds, a game that did the same thing a lot better 8 years ago.
>>111809782 I honestly forgot who he was and was really confused in the final mission. I don't think they directly mention who's piloting Aretha and his voice is all distorted with filters so it's hard to tell it's him.
I think it's more interesting just for the fact that Aspina had the prototype next all along and that someone was forcing Joshua into a suicide attack on the only other independent colony to exist. Also interesting because Omer's top lynx comes in to oversee the battle.
>>111809831 All but outright stated I believe, except in that case it wasn't AC1. I think AC1's protag was only in that and Project Phantasma if you kept save data.
AC2's antagonist was the main character of AC: MoA.
Then you have the fun crazy sort of implication where you could import from AC3 to SL, to Nexus, to Last Raven. Made ridiculous by the idea that you survived a near apocalyptic event that you were at the FOREFRONT of in Nexus. Then you recover from that and proceed to kick every single remaining Raven's ass, most of which on OP-Intensify/Newtype bullshit without having any of that stuff yourself. Oh, and the machines built specifically to fuck up any and all Ravens as well.
>>111809678 ACs in V/VD are basically scrap pieces that have been put together, which is why they look the way they do. But, you eventually start to like the look of them through some weird kind of robot stockholm syndrome. Yeah, they wanted the gameplay to be more like the past generations so they slowed it down. Kicking off walls and glide boosting are how to get airborne in that game. Or by just using reverse joint legs and jumping.
>>111809717 Try out armored core 3 if you have a PS2 or can emulate it. Give armored core For Answer a shot if you have a PS3 or 360 though.
>>111809831 Yeah, the protag from MoA was the antagonist of AC2, Leos Klein.
>>111809359 >Mixing up Strike Witches: Ace Combat Edition with Ace Combat: Strike Witches Edition There's a difference anon. The former is Strike Witches with ace combat things mixed in. Pretty much just regular SW, but in not-strangereal instead of not-earth. The latter is Ace Combat with pantsu and shit that doesn't mesh at all. A bit like the idolmaster things in 6 and beyond, but even worse. What you, and I imagine everyone else, don't want is the latter.
>>111810326 Why anyone would even want an Ace Combat anime is beyond me.
The whole fucking point is that you're the ace. You're the faggot flying through fucking tunnels to destroy the laser satellite before the prototype ship piloted by your ex-wingman blows tears you a new asshole with beam spam.
>Some smartass kid decides to jump on just as I jumped on >His friends think it's a funny idea to just try and beat people at games >I pick the pink one >His posse laughs, and he picks something else >He gets rekt and leaves grumpily
I didn't even know what I was doing. Apparently they've been coming to the arcade for a few days and beating other kids in games as soon as they play. They didn't come back after that.
>>111810420 I remember reading about how it was going to be AI controlled garbage and flipping the fuck out. Then they changed it for America and it was practically unplayable with the lack of buttons.
Keep the cute shit to qtpie pilots to gush over. I hate to give it credit, but at least >>111810402 was right in the sense that they fetishized the characters themselves rather than subverting the whole point of the series the way either of those would if done excessively.
>>111810436 >playing Another Age >get to this part I knew he was going to rape me, but I didn't know it would happen so fucking hard and fast. Has any human being ever managed to beat him? Is it even possible?
No, it's harder, way harder due to limited button on the psp
The default button arrangement is fucking retarded so you need to make your own working configuration. The PSP version got more parts and AC arena combatants and harder Zinaida but if you prefer way better control then just stick with PS2 version
>>111806765 Only if its about a hardworking corporate salaryman, each episode about his office troubles trying to sell a new gattling gun, securing supply contracts and recruiting crews for the local arms fort. >>111809938 In the japanese version he is voiced by Jouji Nakata,it would be hard to miss his voice. >>111810165 >Fuck Omer >Hating on based saviour of mankind
>Miyazaki also mentioned that he doesn’t have any collaboration titles in mind, regardless of the acquisition by Kadokawa, although he did think that the online talks of a possible Kantai Collection and Armored Core collaboration were pretty interesting.
>>111810791 God I've forgotten her name. But she was already an anime female protagonist to begin with.
That sort of thing is fine. When you start harshly shifting the setting itself to give more fanservice opportunity the way Strike Witches or Arpeggio does...well, at least do it to a new setting and not a long-running one and have it NOT be a gag/SoL version of the series.
>>111806765 Depends,AC story is pretty much >Lets create a skynet tier AI to help govern mankind and limit conflicts, what could go wrong! Retards should have made a treaty fully banning AI with all the trouble they caused. >>111810826 >Ostdarva tries water skating >Its flooding, halp!
>>111811130 3 was my first game, bitchboy. Is it so incomprehensible to you that people who liked the older games might also like the never ones? Is your head so far up your own ass that you actually believe that?
>>111811322 They were introducing new things in pretty much every title, though. Radically changing the way the game plays in an attempt to reach a more casual audience with flashy gameplay trailers was just stupid.
>>111810961 >Depends,AC story is pretty much >Lets create a skynet tier AI to help govern mankind and limit conflicts, what could go wrong!
Maybe in AC3. But then it's implied the Controller was meant to malfunction around the time the Earth became habitable again to force its occupants to leave. I think the one in SL is the one that went 100% crazy. Otherwise it's mostly Nineball, who became a memetic extra boss in most games after AC1, where that applied. Later AC games are way more about the human on human conflict.
>>111811410 They were introducing new things, but the core of the gameplay was still the same. There weren't any really big changes over the first 3 generations. They radically changed styles because they wanted to. Why are you assuming that they were trying to appeal to a more casual audience? FROMSOFT has always made games that they want to make, they don't give a fuck about the casual audience.
>>111806765 Only if it isn't based on Gen 4. Fuck NEXT's. Armored Core V and Verdict day might make a good anime, but something on the Nexus/Last Raven line would probably be best. Get some exposure on Zinaida, Genobee and Jack-O.
>>111817750 Yeah I've been using that while testing out the other company mechs, I probably swapped out the generator with a better one for performance. The Independant rayleonard is still pretty good with some tweaks
