Holy shit, that was terrible.
>david starts off by laughing at the concept of a digital singer
>they pick a bad song
>they pick the English version that you can't understand anyway
>david walks up after and acts like it's the most retarded shit he's ever seen
>"like being on willie nelson's tour bus"
Today, we received a reminder that we will always be safe from mainstream exposure. I can't think of a more flaccid television debut.
They did exactly what I thought they would. Laughed at "those crazy gooks" and ended the show. Thank fucking god. I didn't think she'd get a good reaction, but there was still a little bit of doubt.
young murricans abandoning tv in droves due to relentless ads are why the merchant is now trying to tighten his grip so tightly on the intermoot
murrican internet will become nothing but advertisements while european and china finish their alternatives and cut the cancerous merchants out from their webs--which is actually something the US government cyber experts are terrified of.
>people actually thought the song would be in Japanese
why was it like being on willie nelson's bus?
sorry for probably being stupid.
I watched this blitzed so it's certainly like being on Willie Nelson's bus
it was alright. Apparently they chose an english song, but I'm not too familiar with vocaloid songs so it all sounded like gibberish to me, and very likely to the audience as well.
The most awkward part was after she finished and the applause from the audience was rather tepid/scattered, since they were probably as weirded out as Letterman was.
>It was like being on Willie Nelson's Bus
Twitter comments 1/2
>Some really trill shit preforming on david letterman tonite
>WHAT THE FUCK is on Letterman right now?
>no other bonding like watching hatsune miku on letterman w ur dad
>... I think I enjoyed the regular portion of letterman more =u=
>Anime is singing on Letterman. Wtf?
>This hologram has noticeable aliasing. Also this music is ummmm.
>@Letterman what the hell am I seeing? Singing Japanese anime?!?
>The musical act on @letterman right now has to be the most unique performance I've ever seen.
>"Oh, haha, isn't that him, the guy who listens to Hatsuni Miku? She was on Letterman last night did you watch it? Haha you're such a loser."
>@Letterman - what the hell is going on here? It's like Saturday morning cartoons while tripping on acid.
>What is happening on #letterman? Wow so this is what Tokyo is like. Neat. Saved me the airfare.
>AAHHHHH YES MIKU ON LETTERMAN THIS IS SUPER HUGE FOR VOCALOID COMMUNITY
>Seriously, #DavidLetterman... #Hologram #anime??? I used to have more respect for you.
>Miku Hatsune on Letterman? Sure! I love shit tier content!
>The David Letterman studio audience looks like they're watching an animal being mutilated onstage.
>What in the unholy fuck am I watching on Letterman right now?
>Wtf is this on Letterman's show??
>"THANK YOU. OKAY." DON'T PATRONIZE MY WIFE LETTERMAN
>ｉ ｒｅａｌｌｙ ｈａｔｅ ｔｏ ｓａｙ ｉｔ ｂｕｔ ｉｆ ｔｈｅｙ ｗｅｒｅ ｇｏｎｎａ ｄｏ ａｎ ｅｎｇｌｉｓｈ ｓｏｎｇ ｍｉｋｕ ｉｓ ｎｏｔ ｔｈｅ ＬＥＴＴＥＲＭＡＮ ＩＳ ＴＡＬＫＩＮＧ ＴＯ ＭＩＫＵ
>Watching Miku on letterman: why is she wearing a headset with a microphone AND holding a microphone??
>David Letterman pretending he cares about the weeb trash Hatsuni Macaroni
>mfw there are people on /a/ who don't know what it's like to be on Willie Nelson's bus
>david letterman looks so akward omg
>ＬＥＴＴＥＲＭＡＮ ＩＳ ＴＡＬＫＩＮＧ ＴＯ ＨＡＴＳＵＮＥ ＭＩＫＵ ＡＮＤ ＭＡＫＩＮＧ ＡＮ ＡＷＫＷＡＲＤ ＳＭＩＬＥ
>There is a cartoon girl singing live on David Letterman. I hope this is not a thing.
>Ummm...why did a cartoon just perform on Letterman? He's like, "That's fun."
>Letterman awkwardly waving to a computer girl.
>I tuned in too soon for Ferguson. Can someone please tell me what the shit is happening with the hologram barbie on Letterman?
>What to heck is happening on The Late Show with David Letterman?
>Why is there some squealing manga chick singing on #Letterman ..literally, she's a cartoon.
>HOLY SHIT A WOMAN JUST DISINTEGRATED ONSTAGE
>i cant believe david letterman is in the presence of a god and doesnt realize it
>Whatever the hell is on #Letterman right now is pretty much the worst thing ever to be on Letterman. Or anywhere ever. #LateNight
>hatsune miku is dead and letterman killed her
>David Letterman looked like his child was doing something embarrassing and weird and he just tried not to make it feel bad
>Pretty awesome #HatsuneMiku performance on Letterman. Frankly she's got more talent, and is more "real", than many acts on mainstream radio.
>What. The. Fuck. WTF was that on #Letterman #terrible
>@Letterman That was HILARIOUS! Miku is the dumbest thing I've ever witnessed and I couldn't stop laughing at the reactions! world is weird.
>So David Letterman hosted a singing anime robot on his show tonight and it was indescribably fucking weird.
>>Brennan Williams @GREATBLACKOTAKU
>>Pharell is singing about dating sims. Miku is on Letterman. If you thought I was animu made casual, it has only just begun...
exactly, why the fuck did they pick show your world for the expo theme. fucking retarded. freely tomorrow, world is mine, odds and ends, rolling girl, come on fucking anything but show your world!!
The biggest irony being that they sacrificed song quality so they could have an English song, but the sound setup was so shit and the band was so loud you couldn't understand her. Plus the camera crew obviously had no idea how holograms work so she looked like normal 2D most of the time.
How long before normal fags infect anime /a/? That blackguy has already done the song It Girl, now David Letterman has had Miku on his show. How long before the normals join in on this?
That song was shit. I need it wiped from my memory.
EVERYONE, POST YOUR FAVORITE MIKU SONG NOW
Hot-soon, Hot-sooney or Hot-sunny?
>she would catch on must feel stupid right now.
What do you mean? She hasnt?
Seriously, whose bright idea was it to get miku on fucking letterman?
Who the fuck is in the staff thought it was a good idea to green light this shit to happen.
Next thing you know we will epic fail guy as the next guest star on the show.
>Our Generation Is Officially Childish
Fucking perfect, these 00s kids.
>audio quality was terrible
>song was terrible
>visual display looked dirty
Jesus christ, I feel exhausted.
All this hype, all this excitement.
This is the face of a man who thinks 20 years in the future will see flying cars and holograms.
this is bettar song
can actually understand it
normal people can appreciate the story of this song at least
with added bonus of mikufags getting asshurt about miku expressing her lust for another person that isnt them
not the best song
audio quality on every video is shit
what the fuck
like, this worked on me for some reason. I didn't give two shits about miku before this. but that entire thing was so shit that i felt the need to actually listen to some of these songs you are posting in here and now i'm really warming up to her.
This thread is too long and I'm too tired to read,
someone give me the 411 on the reaction.
I felt raped they blew it and I blame Gaga.
I had it on mute while listening to Miku songs the whole time and waited for /a/ to tell me when it's happening.
Could just go whole hog and do a cover.
Zed fans would at least know what the hell it is, and the English isn't as bad. The problem with the English Miku shown by Miku's "handlers" are the composers are fucking Japanese, so of course it sound stilted and dumb.
Good lord I don't even have a good reaction for this particular moment.
Well this is weird
I assume she'll be a guest on the Colbert Report one day...or whatever Colbert will be hosting after the show ends next month. It's too bad they don't attach an actual person to the character, that sounds limited as fuck.
>There she is
I feel so bad for everyone involved..
The look on his face says it all, He just does not care anymore.
>that Letterman face
That was the icing on the cake.
Yeah, third place is $1000, second is $2000
wound up with $0 after Final Jeopardy. Was in 3rd place with $6000 at the end of Double Jeopardy, leader had $12400, I bet it all since I wanted to play for the win and missed along with everyone else
Goddamn Saudi Arabia
Letterman has been on tv for decades; he's been on tv since fucking Johnny. Letterman is retiring, not shitcanning.
Ferguson got shitcanned. That or his boss Letterman gave him freedom that he'd lack under new management.
>>HOLY SHIT A WOMAN JUST DISINTEGRATED ONSTAGE
man there's a company that makes this thing
i dont think Yamaha is a small company, and they sell their other shit in America
they could have found SOME guy SOMEwhere in the west to rejigger songs like this into proper english if they want to push this product to the west by giving a performance in the west by having her sing *in english* to english speaking people
>Mfw sat through the whole night for this shit
Yeah, fuck you too, Letterman.
im so fucking upset
why did they have to fuck up with the song choice
That last stinger was good though, only on screen for a split second.
No one is thinking of the band members. They're probably thinking
>this is it, I've made it big time now! I'm on an American late night talk show host on a big network!
>this colossal fuck of a segment.
Well, this was a horrible experience, Good night every one
It's not Letterman. It's Crypton's fault for fucking up with that shit song.
I obviously didn't expect much but holy shit, it was annoying to just watch the whole show and hear that ear-tearing shit.
It might be because I'm too used to Kikuo's works or PINNOCHIOP's but that song was just utter shit.
>Crypton Future Media, INC. is a music technology company based in Sapporo, Japan.
Since when did Japan give a shit about Western audience?
Did they really think they could go bigger doing dumb shit like this?
I dunno guys, seems as if he just thinks there's a strange novelty to the whole thing. He's been doing this gig for a long fucking time, this has gotta be the first time he had a musical guest onstage who didn't actually exist.
So... why is everyone cringing so hard? Miku was never going to be understandable in English but she's not understandable in Japanese anyway unless you're fluent which, let's be honest, most of us aren't (and even then her voice is obviously not "normal").
The song wasn't amazingly mind blowing but it was preppy and upbeat and pretty much as expected. I'm only just getting into vocaloid, though, so maybe I'm missing something here?
>Does Letterman have a history of fucking up their musical guests?
Letterman used to be pretty satirical and mean-spirited in the previous century. He's a lot mellower now than when he was "young". Cher used to avoid his show but appear on the Tonight Show instead. Letterman kept on trying to get her on and one time he succeeded. Letterman was conversing and it came up that she was so hard to book. Cher said, no, she didn't appear on his show because he was so mean to so many of his guests. OOOOOOH. That chopped him down in front of everyone. But sure, there were lots of fans of Letterman's edgy show because the Tonight Show hosts didn't try to make you look bad or deliberately embarass you or make mean jokes at your expense if they felt you were a oneshot guest unable to strike back at them.
>she's not understandable in Japanese anyway unless you're fluent which, let's be honest, most of us aren't
>most of us aren't
Speak for yourself, pleb.
Letterman gives no fucks, hasn't for decades. CBS looks at his numbers and wonders why they can't get viewers under 50.
So they look at what Gaga is doing and Miku's big tour in NY. Some intern reads a Wikipedia article telling him she's the most popular thing since the Beetles. They slap together the production for her out of rubber bands and string, and we arrive at this shitshow.
Lets see, Miku got so big she got her own vidya series that is published by sega both in japan and in murica
They put up a poll online to were to bring their light(shittier) concerts in the world while the premium stuff is still japan only and fucking expensive
Indonesia won last year, US won this year
also GaGa asked for miku to open for her because gaga is desperate for any attention towards her
It depends, the crowd did not respond at all, however there seems to be some serious googling and twittering going on regarding miku. we'll probably know once we get some reviews by some websites or something, but all in all I doubt it.
>there are people who legitimately like this squeaky autotune vocaloid shit
But... isn't that how every Letterman concert is? It's a tiny studio. Does the audience normally cheer and stuff? They never cut to the audience anyway so I couldn't even tell.
And yeah, it's Letterman, it was always gonna be a "Japan is so goofy" thing. Although let's be real, he should get JAM Project next to sing SKILL.
I can't speak for all of /a/, obviously, but I think it's safe to say most people here (including me) thought it was bad.
I fucking wish America would leave Vocaloid alone. I wish Letterman never accepted. I wish Gaga had never pulled her in. This was a terrible idea and should never be repeated, and anyway the normals who usually watch Letterman probably thought it was "gay" or "creepy". A typical reaction. Jesus I'm so mad.
Letterman used to throw canned hams at his audience until legal told him to stop because they didn't want someone with a busted face to sue them for 6 gorillion dollars.
He threw fucking canned hams at you some days. Now THAT'S comedy.
Hell, one would argue if you can't kill it and make people sold on your product, the very next best thing is to just make an ass out of yourself and get the word out that way.
No one remembers a tepid performance.
>Did they really think they could go bigger doing dumb shit like this?
Honestly i think they did think that, we already went through this shit when the first concert came here, there were tv commercials and other shit for normalfags to see.
>The Disappearance of Hatsune Miku begins to play
>she's not understandable in Japanese anyway unless you're fluent
Yeah, that's true. I usually understand everything in every language I'm not fluent in, but Miku is the exception. Man, you'd have to fucking -understand- Japanese to understand what Miku says. That's crazy.
>SHE BLEW THE ROOF
>BLEW THE ROOF
I'm 23 and if it wasn't for EVA I wouldn't know who that is. I only watch anime and don't listen to music.
I didn't know who Robert Williams was either
Do I even need to say it?
>he should get JAM Project next to sing SKILL.
The audience is old as fuck too. Most of them wouldn't exit the studio alive.
Nope I've seen things like this happen for years. Every time something like this goes mainstream it's always confusion followed by cynical laughter. Americans are actually pretty xenophobic, or at least Japan phobic. Japanese people are to beta to defend their culture from American bullies.
>you're just stupid if you've never even heard of frank sinatra.
Nice logic here.
Also on another level:
>A picture and a first name is enough information to identify any given person on the planet
Will the Japanese otaku declare war? I wouldn't know who/what they'll declare war on, but they're pretty damn autistic over there.
Why, they raged over an utaite cover of a Vocaloid song getting more views than the original. They were really pissed about that. How will they react to THIS?
You know, I honestly felt David Letterman staring into my soul. For a moment I really believed he could see me.
If people just knew how to use vocaloids correctly. The music would be less cringe inducing.
We had at least four 1000+ post threads over the span of two hours. I don't think I've ever seen /a/ this excited about something. Too bad it kinda sucked.
I mean it wasn't as bad as it could've been, but come on.
I don't think it's xenophobic so much as it is we've got this sort of meme in the western world that Japan is this wacky zany place that is super repressed, so they express themselves in bizarre ways. It's got that pseudo racist twinge of "OH LOOK AT THEM LOVABLE ZIPPERHEADS, BEING WEIRD AGAIN. LEAST THEY AREN'T SPICS THOUGH."
sup Corean, you can leave now.
>Just look at the countless things that are japan only or only exclusive to japan
If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, that's a good thing.
>I don't think I've ever seen /a/ this excited about something.
Really? You must be new here. I mean, the catalog wasn't even flooded with Miku threads since things were relatively contained.
And yet they watch American movies in theaters on a weekly basis, and we don't watch many movies from anywhere but Hollywood. I think it's more nationalism than xenophobia, but meh.
>they had a field day when CNN fluffed the Bad Apple video thing.
>they raged over an utaite cover of a Vocaloid song getting more views than the original.
Do you have proof of this? Or is this how you think they reacted.
I think it might've worked with Colbert, since he launders everything with irony anyway. He's quite a character himself so a Vocaloid might've worked if she sang an America-themed song.
You realize theyre getting paid royalties to do this? What, did you think that all this publicity (letterman, gaga, fucking pizza hut) isnt a concentrated campaign to market her in the west?
> Miku is getting popular in america
>pharell williams and other celebreties are talking about anime like recently brad pitt and how he would love to play bato in ghost in the shell if they ever made it
> american kids start to love anime
america starts looking at other things japan does
> evberyone will have waifus
>everyone will know who 2hu is
> everyone will ask you if you've seen the latest jojo , Kill la kill or attack on titan because they are the best anime ever
> you will no longer be the little special snowflake who watches anime
> you talk about hentai and yuri
> people will know what that is
> lolis will be banned due to child molestation and sexualizing a minor
> hollywood will make movies based on anime
> disney and pixar will make anime
Feels good man. the age of weebo and animefags is finally dying.
>Do you have proof of this
Nigga, CNN is super old news. Everyone and their mother knows about that one. Cirno News Network ring a bell?
As for the utaite cover, just search for "Shake it!" on Niconico and click the two most-viewed videos.
Good thing i don't care about Miku or Vocaloid
I like this song, and that music video.
Not my favorite, but this ones fairly new and honestly one of the best uses of the software I've heard in a while.
I kinda wish they had used it instead even if it is in japanese because it at least sounds more realistic
>brad pitt playing batou
>not ron perlman
>Some Anons actually waited hours for this garbage
Holy shit did you people get btfo.
Oh I forgot his name already but you knew who I meant. I don't watch any TV at all either and anime and anime music are the only things I listen to.
what was that music video that starts out with cats made out of text punching? and it has that imp miku waving around a leek a lot, but it had normal miku dancing in a bunch of different frames all drawn a different way
Miku Miku ni shite ageru ver 2012.
God that was awful. The super awkward presentation, the terrible song, the terrible audio quality and that zombie audience.
That being said, this will probably still help grow the brand.
> Arrested for owning a body pillow
> Arrested for owning anime statues/figures
>I think America shouldn't be touching the topic about Hatsune Miku.
>Crypton did bad by choosing a song where it was very annoying to hear due to how ear-tearing it felt. The audio quality was terrible, the visualization seemed terrible compared to the concerts hosted in Japan, and the entire crowd, featured with David, absolutely mellow about it.
>They didn't care, and they just used Miku as a way to just fill the show a bit more even if the topic of having a Vocaloid singing in a show is interesting.
>The song choice was utterly horrible, but it might be due to me being very used to Kikuo's works and PinnochioP's works, but seriously, I cannot believe they had to put that song, and it was freaking Crypton.
>In Lady Gaga's concerts, she's received somewhat nicely but not at the same level of Japan. It brings little interest unless it's a very hyped crowd like in Japan.
>The show was half-assed. There was like a band doing almost nothing but awkwardly rubbing their fingers across their guitars-- like, why would you put this terrible song on Live in front of many Americans that were curious about Miku?
>The show was super forced, and it was very inaccurate to understand what she was saying, even if it was in English, because, that was the main reason on why she was singing that terrifying song.
