>>115814136 From what I remembered it didn't do that badly, it just didn't do as well as the first season but even 5 years later there's still plenty of people buying the LNs both in Japan and Internationally, I'm sure if they continued the series they find themselves having people buying the LN throughout the next 10-12 years (since the anime would have at the very least +2-3 seasons which is already 4-6 years).
In terms of long term investment I wouldn't say it's that bad.
>>115816323 God damn it why doesn't someone kickstart a Spice and Wolf S3 project? I would fund the fuck out of that. just make sure to hire the original eng ad jap actors and I's pledge 1k right off the bat
>>115813740 I'm sure maybe another studio could pick it up, it looks like a fairly generic animation style, who knows maybe there are fans of SaW in high up places waiting for the right time to pounce...
>>115818877 What so it can tell you all the important bits but leave out the details leaving you twice as confused? believe me I tried to do that with the anime and I had to watch it again to make sense of what the wiki was trying to tell me.
> Yen Press later announced that future volumes of the series and reprints of the first volume would retain the original artwork while dust jackets would carry the new covers, citing that the redesigned covers were requested by retailers in order to appeal to a wider audience.
The autistic sperglords who freaked out about the unpardonable sin of Yen Press trying to appeal outside of basement dwellers was complete and utter moronic weeaboo stupidity of the like not seen since the otaku shit a brick over Kannagi's boyfriend.
>>115819849 I don't think the international market would matter that much.
If people in japan bough more then maybe. Hell perhaps even if thousands started being sold out of nowhere we still don't know if they would even consider more seasons due to the simple fact that the raw source is already over..
It's sad but true, hope is the last one to die though, Spice and wolf is extremely popular even after 5 years, so I'm sure there's still a chance.
>>115821439 He's alright, I enjoy it mostly for Holo personality, although I'm not growing fond with how long it is taking them to fucking admit they like each other and be a couple even though both of them know it already. i'm talking about the later episodes of season 2 after he won the bet with the other dude.
>>115818587 Staunch purefags are the worst. Even if that were true, why would it matter? You'd really use something like having had a ton of sex in the hundreds of years prior to meeting Lawrence to write a girl like Holo off completely?
>>115821938 Just re-read 6 and see Lawrence struggle to figure out what Holo's (stupid) problem with him is. Then marvel at how long it takes him to figure out the coin-packing thing. And marvel as he becomes pathetic in 9 so that Holo has a reason to get upset at him yet again.
>>115822587 I think it was more along of the lines of him having a meeting with the light novel department that went something like this: "write your damn light novels faster, they're not supposed to be works of art, just cheap crap we can sell. And dumb it down. You know, make the lead character dumber and drag out the romance to at least 16 volumes for us."
>>115822469 >Implying anything about Holo is sloppy Seriously though, give it a day or two and a shower and there'd be no slop to second. Unless your definition for sloppy seconds stretches all that time she was stuck in the wheat.
>>115822718 >>115822784 Is there even character development before the latest chapters? Finished the anime and loved it , wanted to read the LN's but I'm the guy that hates when things never change or take far too fucking long to change, like, they know they like each other in the anime by the second part of S2 but it's like they don't even make a move, they always tease each other which is great but I don't wanna read 1k+ pages of them teasing each other without something relevant happening.
>>115823085 Yes, in volume 10 there's some good stuff. It should make the lesser stuff in 8-9 worthwhile. 13 also has some fairly charming side stories, and 14-16 does have some nice character and relationship stuff to likely make up for the rest. It's a shame the author dragged it out that long.
>>115824140 Oh, things are different, it's not that terrible. The problem is that it feels a bit inconsistent with earlier volumes in some ways, and the worse stuff is of course not as good as the rest.
Could anyone tell me what's the thing she was scared about when Lawrence pats her in the head on episode 9 on the bed? where she says that if he notices it too that it might be bad or something like that? It's betwen minute 16 and 18:30
>>115825087 Yea I wondered about how they went about it later in the Light novels, since I'm gonna start reading tomorrow I should probably finish all the LNs real quick and find out. I'll have to read 12-17 with fan translations since the official translations only released up to volume 12
>>115814213 Honestly the 3DPD covers look all right, aside from how they give them a bodice-ripping romance novel vibe. I can imagine all the assblasted empty-nesters that pick this up thinking it's some Danielle Steele shit and get an economics lesson instead.
>>115835064 It's well worth it. Hell I felt happier when I was reading the LN's just knowing about the adventures she's having with Lawrence. Just remembering how much of a ride it was makes me tear up a little If I'm still into anime/reading when I get older I wouldn't mind alzheimers to an extent. Would be nice rewatch/reading it like I did for the first time Memory erasing technology when?
Also http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HyCUr95LEU The Live version is just beautiful
Why is Lawrence such a piece of shit? >all is well, makes some profit >I KNOW, GREAT IDEA, LET'S FUCK WITH BUNCH OF PEOPLE >OH NO MY PLAN IS BACKFIRING, HORO PLS HELP >Horo fixes everything >they ride off to the next town >so that Lawrence can do it all over again >this keeps happening literally every episode except those first few and then 2-3 as season 1 and 2 goes on.
>>115835500 My memory is now foggy, but I'm fairly sure this happened with the gold smuggling, which didn't backfire, the salt thing, then Lawrence just goes and sell Horo off only to get her back. What was the fucking point?
>>115835593 The gold smuggling was in response of having been tricked by another merchant, it was either that or living the rest of hs slive as slafe. Selling Horo was them being tsun tsun for each other and having the whole thing get out of hand.
>>115835593 He didn't fuck any body over. If you are talking about the man who sold them armor that was because he was tricked by the one merchant who tried to cheat him anyways with a rigged table so the scale would lean in favor of the merchant. The salt thing was for Lawrence to gain profit in which he figured the reward outweighed the risk.
>>115835688 >the reward outweighed the risk >almost gets shanked >almost loses his waifu >gains nothing Lawrence fails to be a merchant forever. Especially that he didn't bother to just hire some cheap muscle to do dangerous trade routes.
>>115835694 If the atmosphere you mean comfy riding around, Euro Truck simulator. If the atmosphere you mean riding around and buying/selling shit, X3 Albion Prelude. If the atmosphere you mean riding around with a wolf waifu trading stuff, I've got nothing.
>>115835704 McenRoe -Maken Ookami is the one I think he means. >>115835694 There's also that Recettear? game where you own a shop for buying and selling but you are in your own building Lawrence's Dream
are there any major descrepencies between the anime and LN? I'd like to pick up where season 2 left off. More importantly, I like to hide my powerlevel, so I'd like to buy these digitally if possible. Are they offered anywhere as an e-book?
>>115836058 Honestly to my knowledge the differences between the 2 are very limited. Book 5 is where you'd want to start Also people are reading books with animals and 'vampires' on them so I don't see problem with owning physical copies. I wouldn't know where to get an e-book
>>115837450 true story but if you forget about the show won't you never get the opportunity to watch it? I'd love to remember at least how much I loved the first episode so I could rewatch everything and enjoy it all over again
>>115837742 You still think we want season 3 for the story? I just wanna see Holo in it and see their interactions and relationship progress, there's always LNs worse than others but there's also good LNs that definitely should be animated, give these a change. I would love a season 3.
What happens is, after Lawerence and Holo leave Kumersun (Pyrite town), before they arrive at Lenos (Fur Trade town), they stop in a very small village called Enberch. There, Holo helps the town deal with an issue regarding their Wheat supply that has been supposedly poisoned. It's not really interesting -- there's no economics really.
However, after the anime ends (It ends in Lenos after Eve Bolan swindles Lawerence), the best story of the entire series begins: Town of Strife (parts I & II).
>>115838074 Yea and Spice and Wolf isn't exactly one of those anime with a small fanbase. It didn't have very great sales in the second season, they were average I guess but that's because the second season wasn't as action packed as the first so it's normal, it was more about him realizing his feelings towards Holo and "fighting" over her by using economy as a weapon.
I wish they animated a season 3. A kickstarter would be an awesome idea.
>>115838142 Town of Strife I & II would probably be the entire 3rd season of Spice and Wolf (If there ever is a 3rd season) so here's a brief overview of it:
(it may take 2-3 posts to explain everything, here's LN6 leading up to Town of Strife I):
After Eve Bolan swindled Lawrence in Lenos, Holo and Lawrence decide to chase Eve up the Roam river. They charter a cargo boat that's going in her direction (toward Kerube, down the river toward the ocean). While on the boat, they learn that this boat is transporting copper coins, however, ship logs indicated that while 60 copper coin crates enter Kerube, only 57 leave. They suspect it's nothing too important, but they keep the documents proving that the Jean Company (trading guild) in Kerube maybe is doing something shady.
Meanwhile, however, Eve has caused a "traffic" jam on the Roam river, and she'll be the first to Kerube with her furs because of it. Lawrence and Holo decide to use Holo's wolf form and run the rest of the way to Kerube. LN 6 concludes with them just outside Kerube, where they've beaten Eve Bolan to the punch.
Holo and Lawrence, while interesting in confronting Eve, are also looking for supposed "Wolf Remains" that may give details to what happened to Holo's homeland. As it turns out, Eve is familiar with a legend regarding some remains, and tells them to head to a trading guild in Kerube for more information: The Jean Company. Lawrence and Eve temporarily bury the hatchet.
Meanwhile, the town of Kerube is locked in a trading dispute. Kerube sits on a river delta, and the northern landowners have taken massive loans from the southern landowners in order to construct a market place directly on the delta, between the north and south sides. This originally was good, because the south wanted the north to be successful, so that they could pay back the loans, and the north wanted the south to be successful so they could use their marketplace (and make more money).
As it turns out, Eve Bolan has been assigned with creating a solution to this problem. The only reason she stole furs from Lawrence, was because she needed at least some capital to get started. If Eve cannot solve this problem, she'll be killed (she's fallen nobility -- she didn't really have a choice but to work for the northerners).
Finally, a "mythical creature" is said to have been brought into town, and the church moves to destroy it. (rumor).
>>115838418 How are you able to rewatch a show 14 times? holy shit.
>>115838484 Hmmm I really wanna read this now, gonna start in a hour or two. Also how were the last 2 volumes? Did it have a good ending? By good I don't mean happy, I just mean if the ending fits the story or is it an open ended where we could still have more story after it but the author is probably just lazy?
Interested in this "mythical creature", Lawrence and Holo move to learn more about it. He goes to his own trading guild branch, The Rowen Trading guild in Kerube, to learn more. While there, he lets slip that he personally knows Eve, and they're both... immediately the head of The Rowen Guild's branch, Lud Kieman, gives Lawrence a guild order to betray Eve. If he doesn't, he'll be betraying his own guild and they'll disown him. Meanwhile, the pressure builds on Eve to solve this trade dispute between the north and south over payment for the construction of the delta marketplace, if she doesn't, she'll be killed (or sold into sex slavery, it's hinted at). If Lawrence betrays Eve, his guild will profit greatly, if Lawrence ignores his guild's order, he'll be disowned by his guild.
Before Lawrence and figure out what to do, rumor is confirmed: the church has a "mythical creature" who is said to posses the ability of "eternal life" -- it's being held captive at the church in Kerube. The trading dispute is put temporarily on hold while the towns interests momentarily shift to this creature the church is holding captive.
But, while the town's interest maybe shifted, the trading guilds and the nobility in Kerube are still focused: learn more about the "mythical creature" but also attempt to profit from the (seemingly) inevitable collapse of the delta marketplace, and the possibility that the southerns will take total control of if.
>>115839150 I already have and loved them but I still want the anime, is it that wrong that I wanted to see all the awesome interactions between Holo and Lawrence animated? I mean just think about how awesome it can be..
>>115837588 hm, sounds right, but what if you simply leave a note for yourself somewhere? then you get old, start to forget most things, and then you find this note again, saying "spice and wolf". you google it, and finally you can relive it all again
Lawrence and Holo learn from the Jean Company's head that, indeed, the stories of the legendary "wolf remains" are likely true. Additionally, the remains probably originated from Holo's home kingdom of Ploaina.
Lawrence is approached by Eve Bolan, who claims that if Lawrence works with her (and betrays his guild), they can both profit greatly over this trading dispute and the confusion swirling around the "mythical creature". Later that same day, Lawrence is given (via a messenger) notice from his guild (The Rowen Trading Guild), that negotiations will soon begin to straighten out this whole mess between the north and the south, and he must act as a messenger between Eve Bolan and the northerners. This appears on the surface to be... well... a reasonable request. He agrees.
Negotiations begin, and Lawrence spends the entire day shuttling messages between his Guild and Eve (who is, for reasons to be explained later, in hiding). Lawrence is initially confused, because Eve appears to be writing many messages, but he appears to be the only one shuttling any of the documents piling high in her room.
Negotiations end for the first day -- no progress is made. Lawrence is confused both with the "mythical creature" the churce is supposedly imprisoning, but also with Eve. Who was Eve writing all those documents to? While walking back to his Inn, he has an epiphany. The Jean Company -- that Eve Bolan knows personally -- all the letters, the crates of missing coins, and why Eve was hiding. Before he can tell Holo (and his Guild, if he wants to) Eve approaches Lawrence completely out of breath. Eve hands Lawrence a letter, but then she's thrown to the ground and stabbed. Lud Kieman (head of Rowen guild) appears, takes the letter, and thanks Lawrence for his service. Before Eve's body is taken away, she tells Lawrence to flee -- it will only get worse.
>>115839160 Honestly, it should get boring for anyone. No matter what else I watch, if I know how it goes or can predict how it'll go, then I'm not interested.
But I'm just an ultra sap for medieval settings/atmosphere (either accurate or romanticized) and the dialogue's fun to listen to when I'm drinking. I can't watch it too often, though, and I usually watch it by the arch. It has to of been long enough for me not to remember everything line-by-line...
>>115839390 Just noticed your name haha, I really wish we could have a season 3 with or without a kickstarter. This is one of those anime that you just can't forget about it even if you want to. Its a literature masterpiece.
I can't read the novels. Every time Lawrence fucks up with Holo, doesn't understand what she's doing, not sitting down and talking out a plan with her and just doing it on his own I just start getting infuriated. Jesus FUCK COME ON YOU HAVE A GODDESS IN YOUR LAP AND YOU GO AND FUCKING SELL HER OR SOME SHIT
The Jean Company learns about what happened to Eve, and their hand is forced, and the move to buy this "mythical creature" from the church. The Jean Company has, secretly, been hoarding large amounts of capital through a shady copper shipping agreement. Ted Reynolds, the head of the Jean Company, offers the church more gold than the entire delta market place is worth, for the mythical creature they possess.
This bewilders Kerube, and the Rowen Trade guild who, surprisingly, had also intended to by this mythical creature in the confusion over the delta marketplace depute. But Lawrence has the upper hand: the incrimination documents detailing how the Jean Company raised all that capital.
Lawrence confronts the Jean Company and, after even more careful negotiations, works out a deal between both the Jean Company and The Rowen Trading Guild. In this deal, everyone profits, but more importantly Eve Bolan is saved (just barely) and the Jean Company releases all the details pertaining to where these "large magic wolf-bones" are to Lawrence and Holo.
In the final scene, Eve kisses Lawrence (for a long time, actually), and then leaves on her way out of town with her profit. Lawrence tells Holo they're now going to head to Winfel, where the large wolf-remains are. Lawrence and Holo take their profit and leave for Winfel.
I think that's obviously going too far. However, there's quite a few scenes that vaguely remind me of Shakespeare's format when it comes to dialogue between characters. The banter between Lawrence and Holo is often far more idealistic than realistic; how well they play off each other and seemingly understand one another is eerily impressive. There's no way most people would come up with a lot of their lines in real life on the spot. I really like it...
>>115839522 Typically, I'll go 1-3 months without seeing a wink, and then knock out all four story archs in two to three weekends.
>>115839898 Well, we wouldn't need to go that far, with the kind of popularity and backers that Spice and Wolf has, if the author ever started a kickstarter I'm sure we'd meet the goal for the season 3 funding really easily in a few months.
>>115839930 After Lawrence saved Eve's life, Eve went to the Inn Lawrence was at. At the time, Lawrence and Holo were eating a lavish dinner gifted to them by the Rowen Trading guild. Holo informs Lawrence that, "that 'vixen' (Eve Bolan) is coming" and moments later there's a knock on his door.
He exits the room. Eve thanks Lawrence for helping her (saving her life) and allowing her to leave, not only debt free, but with great profit.
Eve then plants her lips on Lawrences -- Lawrence doesn't think and just goes along with it. Afterwards, Eve leaves, Lawrence enters the room, and Holo freaks out (because she heard the whole thing).
>>115839983 Well, first we would need to find someone trustworthy who wouldn't just take the money and run (I don't think that'd be legal but I don't know.)
Then we would need to contact the author first and see if he agrees, there's no point in starting a kickstarter, meeting the goal and have the author say "how about no?"
And then we need to find somekind of a benefits system for those that donate the highest amounts, which would probably be the most part since we are not in charge of the studio that will produce it. In fact, we don't even know which studio would produce the season 3 nor do we know the production cost.
With that said, a kickstarter is VERY possible and the odds of us getting a season 3 is high, the problem is getting hold of the author and see if it's okay to make the kickstarter. We would also need the author to contact studios about the production costs.
Apparently the author hasn't been on twitter for like a year, getting his personal email will be even harder, if someone had the connections it would be easier but without having a way to contact the author even if we had 10 Million USD waiting for the kickstart for season 3-4-5-6 we wouldn't go anywhere without talking to the author.
Unless the author actually thinks about a kickstarter himself like he did for World end economica I doubt we'll see a season 3 unless someone finds his email.
But then again he also said that it would be interesting to write another story in the same world of Holo / Lawrence. I don't know if this is to give us hope of a sequel to the LNs or what.
The best part is that he said this a few months back (4-5 months ago on reddit).
>>115840742 It could probably be done via Twitter then into email however he hasn't been on twitter and I don't know if there's a way of us being able to find his personal email, if there was it would be far easier to start the kickstarter and we could see a season 3 of spice and wolf come to life.
>>115841106 You wouldn't need 10 Million people and I know you're probably being sarcastic here, Spice and Wolf has the fanbase to gather thousands of backers for a kickstarter, maybe even reach the 100 thousand backers, with that in mind reaching a million USD for such a popular series wouldn't be such a problem especially when we have been waiting for a season 3 for 5 years.
But then again, the money is not the problem. The problem is getting the author to agree to the kickstarter and backing us up by giving us his blessing.
Even if you reached the goal for the kickstarter without having a way to contact the author you would never know if he would even accept the money for the season 3 and you don't even know if he has the "power" to make season 3 happen even with the money.
>>115841124 any manga could be animated if /a/ really wanted to, I get it, most of /a/ now is neets and underage fags but see >>115841106 Sparing 1 hour to make about 10$ with as much user base as /a/ has + spreading it on every other website could make mirracles happen such as seeing Pun Pun or Yotsubato animated, with enough money, it ALL comes down to money.
>>115841244 Not only money but also connections, unfortunately if the author doesn't want it and sometimes even if the author wants it he just can't find a studio willing to animate things.
It depends in a lot of factors but contacting the authors is the most important step, I feel like backing up the kickstarter is the easiest simply due to how amazing /a/ and the anime community in general is.
This is a long shit but does anyone have the info graphic on what happened during the pyrite arc? I remember when it aired a lot of people were confused about what happened and someone made an infograph explaining every little detail.
>>115843336 I'm sure you can download them online, I believe the yen press oficial translations can be found online up to volume 10 and then the others just download from fan translations like baka stuki or drunken wolf
>>115839317 /a/ has better shit like http://animebracket.com/ anyway. (Starting tomorrow btw.) Reddit is very rarely worth it. I only remember going there for a Fallout:NV mod guide and some bitcoin CPU miner questions.
>>115844355 This is kind of inaccurate though. Corvo wasn't planning to leave Lawrence, she was just a backstabbing little two-timing slut as usual while Lawrence was crashing the market because he thought Horo would fuck off with the manlet and he can't just let his waifu NTR him.
>>115839497 This gives me ideas. If Trigger can kickstart LWA2 in hours then surely we can make S3 happen. I'll have to give this some more thought. Honestly I never thought of using Kickstarter to make it happen but with the right contacts it's definitely in the realm of possibility.
>>115845144 Yes she wasn't but that's from Lawrence's perspective since he didn't know what she was planning.
>>115845230 >>115845234 Anime is expensive but we also are thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people wanting to see season 3 of Spice and Wolf for the last 5 years. We can easily reach hundreds of thousands of dollars, perhaps even millions, just look at under the dog, almost 1 million raised and it's not nearly as popular as Spice and Wolf.
>>115845828 That's why I'm considering. Still more research to do. Need to find author's contact info, maybe collaborate with Pyrite if she's OK with the idea of another season. If I can play some part in making S3 happen then I have reason enough to keep living. I'm fucking amazed I never thought of this before. I can see it realistically happening if I can get the author on board and find a willing studio. I'm not ordinarily so outgoing or enthusiastic in these matters but Korbo can motivate me like none other.
>>115846134 It's very likely that if we raise enough money a season 3 will happen but that's not the problem. The problem is being able to get someone to contact the author and tell him about the kickstarter because he's the one who needs to contact the studio, say the amount of money we need to gather in the kickstarter and such. Even if we gather millions of dollars without the authors approval and without we being able to contact him, we'll never be able to get the money on his hands for season 3.
>>115846507 I'm not especially worried about contacting the author. Finding info online is one of my strengths and I'm sure I can find some way to message her. I won't start until I'm well rested and sober but this sort of project is right up my alley. Wish I thought of doing this years ago.
>>115846604 all LNs have their up and downs but I never saw their relationship as boring, some economic parts yes but their relationship was always refreshing and new, never got boring to me, and there's plenty of volumes that are amazing and we haven't seen them animated yet.
>>115847187 Please do contact the author in a polite and professional way so *he (it's a he) understands that you/us are being serious about it, explain how it's been discussed hundreds of times before and it seems like people are actually willing to backup the kickstarter.
if he agrees please spam /a/ I wanna know this immediately so I can donate to the kickstarter right away.
>>115847600 Of course. I thought Isuna whatever was a woman but either way I'd never be less than professional with him. I want with all my heart to make S3 a reality and if I can get some good feedback from him I'll spam the project on /a/ every day with my trip. I wish I thought of this long ago. Gives me a clear purpose in life, even if I fail to make it happen.
