God I hated that scene
It's a shit show on top of everything else, but using rotoscoping for 30 seconds of animation in a shit show for no discernible reason made me legit angry and I can't for the life of me figure out why
What's the matter, too realistic for you?
I fucking hate this shit.
I can't masturbate to Haruka knowing that is someone else's ass.
What the fuck were they thinking?
When done right, rotoscoping is fine. You all only think it looks 'bad' or is 'uncanny valley' because you're all used to regular animation.
It's the same deal as film enthusiasts who complain that 60fps hurts their eyes and is 'too smooth' and lowers the quality of the movie compared to 24fps.
He deleted the blog post(presumably because he posted the genga without permission) but you can still find the traces left on the interweb.
The weird effect isn't given off by being rotoscoped (if it was), but rather because of how smooth all the motions are. I'm not saying that the frame rate should decrease but rather the motions themselves being unrealistically constant in speed. The weird shaking while walking, the girl trying to swallow does so in a very smooth manner (instead of jerky), it's like no speeding up or slowing down.
there's subtle and unsightly posture in the motions, look at Haruka and how she runs towards the dropped food like a hunch back troll.
It's not for cute anime.
Good for fight scenes, but not this stuff.
No, more realism and more detail sometimes makes animation worse.
Animation should have a lot less details than real life because they are able to put focus on the details that are drawn for a specific focus.
There are some people that can do rotorscoping right by only taking the necessary details, but most people just fucks it up.
It feels like it's fucking going in slow motion with a bunch of tiny motion effects then their bodies just SLING into their movements. Like everyone is made of rubber or something. It's definitely not realistic but it looks like they're trying.
QUALITY fags are now into Rotoscope for shitposting?
guise pls take it easy.
It feels like those programs basically interpolate frames to add frame rate, webm related.
This. You know how in normal animation when there is something or someone irrelevant at the moment they just stay still, and you focus on what is important of the scene, which is what it is moving at the moment. Here everything moves all the time, makes you feel uncomfortable about what to focus on. Not a blame of rotoscoped, but basically the studio not knowing how to use it correctly.
That's the point, you note it specially on the glasses how the lines move around when they should be solid lines.
So is this supposed to cut down on costs or something?
I'm okay with it, at the end of the day, it's the story that matters most.
The blood effect is fucking beautiful in this movie, holy shit.
Requesting glorious Webm. of this scene.
>Those awfully goof movements.
>Turning 2D cuties into borderline 3DPD.
I still don't really like 3D idols.
It was only tolerable in key scenes in AKB0048 because they had a lot of extra effects masking it. It really only works when you're doing something that uses a lot of effects, or if you're doing some high speed dogfight action in my opinion.
Didn't watch GuP yet so I can't comment on that though.
That's an entirely different issue. It is true though, if studios want to use 3DCG they do need to understand it takes longer to produce good quality scenes. Otherwise you end up with SFM tier shit
These aren't rotoscopped you fucking retards, they're just damn good at what they do.
It was probably bait from someone who knew, but fuck.
>tfw your waifu will never gyrate her hips on top of you with your penis inside her
I really like this.
Not always. Certain scenes (especially in fast/flashy combat) look better when they aren't fully animated. It's a lot harder to portray speed when its full of in between animation
The problem with all of these is that, while smooth, they actually don't behave like humans at all.
Human gestures, like speech, have pacing. Fast movements into slow draws, punctuated movements, etc etc.
This is the kinetic equivalent to speaking clearly, but with a uniform tone all throughout.
I don't know if this is cgi or rotoscoping or whatever and I never really liked it.
But it really works in this shit idol show. Really well.
This it is highly prevelant in Bahi's floppy animation on space dandy >>118458770
and even in his fanboy >>118457707
I remember Glen Keane talking about actual motion focal points, at least in terms of the moving figure and gesture, with areas of rest and movement it will keep the viewer focused on important actions and keep them unfatigued, it works really well with Takeshi Honda's animations and Inoue's stuff.
Being smooth has nothing to do with it looking shitty
They might move like in real life but that's not how we perceive things.
In every pose and movement we see gestures so by just copying frames from actual footage you'll lose small yet important details.
Anime and cartoons also use a very stylized image of humans so why not use stylized movement.
We can only pray for mitsou iso's talent to flow into other animators.
But rotoscoping is very much necessary to learn the motions. The learning part is key, though.
Anyway, that swordplay in keshins demo on the op 1:00 is something else:
its exagerated movement.
no one moves like a snake from side to side while walking.
the problem is instead of making nice smooth movement, they turn into ape and do monkey stuff.
someone educate me on why this Bahi dude is considered shit? I don't have an eye for animation but I'm starting to get interested. Is "floppiness" such an issue?
SHE'S FUCKING GIGANTIC
>mfw japanese plebs can't set up a cam properly
The girl looks acceptable once the transformation is done.
But the box and the transformation scene itself look like shit.
I guess it shows on what models they spent their money.
Same with arpeggio. The girls looked ok. One-off props and side characters were garbage.
But men are just better at being women than actual females
