What anime discussion forums do you consider good/useful?
Which do you find to be the least insufferable
Which do you think have the most in-depth discussions about news, the industry and general trivia?
Which do you think have the most informed userbase?
I hope this thread doesn't bother anyone. I know it inevitably will and people are going to say there are no good sites but it'd be nice to see if there's any consensus on what the least shitty ones are or which have the most of each type of shit behaviour.
I don't want to resort to leddit or MAL.
>What anime discussion forums do you consider good/useful?
>Which do you find to be the least insufferable
>Which do you think have the most in-depth discussions about news, the industry and general trivia?
>Which do you think have the most informed userbase?
/a/ and /m/ combined have a lot of informed posters
I'm being genuine when I say that literally every anime site that isn't in fucking japanese is dog shit compared to /a/. We're at the forefront of news, tech developments, all that shit. Every other site basically just digs through our trash. I'd honestly say that /a/ is the number one anime "place" in the west.
It's all thanks to the anonymity.
On regular forums you'll always have epeen, "lol i suck mod dick xD" fags (There was an image explaining this, haven't got it anymore), weeaboos, faggots that think they know what they're talking about when they actually don't, and are believed because they registeredx 5 years ago or have a five digit post count.
/a/'s the best. It has its flaws, but it's the best in the west for sure.
Why is /a/ so slow lately?
I think this is in part good, but I can't help feeling that /a/ and 4chan are in decline.
Like, I wish this was 2008-2012 again, and watching /a/ grow.
I don't know how /a/ was from 2004 to 2008, but it sure would be great to come back and experience it
and btw, you speak of 4chan as if /a/ wasn't a part of it.
I don't know how much of a Gaul village we are inside Roman France, maybe we don't share much userbase with other cancerous websites like Reddit or Tumblr
>Every other site basically just digs through our trash.
That's wrong though. /a/ doesn't actually output anything reusable, even if people on /a/ tend to be the most informed.
The question though is where /a/ gets its information from. I've been here for ~3 years and still have no idea; I get my news from other /a/nons if I get them all. I'm guessing that a large part comes from /jp/ kinds of people who know nippon and browse Japanese websites and 2ch and stuff.
Why do they even have the "anime" tag? If you ask them what their favorite anime this season is or what they are going to watch next season they just tell you how much they love naruto or attack on titan. Fucking weird.
I really never heard of 4ch. I mean, I know the difference between 2ch and Futaba channel, but never heard of 4ch
>what bbs are anymore
you mean regular forums? Shit m8, we're not that young
>mentioning the word "season" on the omegle anime tag
>"oh i really like black butler"
You just fucking triggered me, holy shit. That place is filled with the most despicable trash I've ever seen, it's on par with gaia. God, I'm in a bad mood now remembering the time I tried to find someone to talk to. Sickening.
Given that "forum" is a normal English word which isn't even related to the Web, not sure if BBS are "normal" forums. It's probably best to refer to them by their precise name: BBS (or bulletin) forums.
why would you do that to yourself, anon? Are you a masochist?
I once had some bitch keep calling herself an "otaku" because she used to watch CCS as a kid. I asked her to name 3 fucking studios and she stopped at Toei.
>a bunch of lonely losers using anime to get attention is "mainstream"
Nope, it'll never be as big as it was in the early 2000s.
Just tried it and forgot to disable that I want to talk to people in my native language. The message should be quite clear though.
/a/ has been the way it has for a while now. I think my two favorite times were the Geass shitstorm and the PSG through Madoka crap. Walburger night was so much fun with /a/.
I think after Madoka there was a distinct drop in board quality, but it hasn't gotten much worse since.
The "mainstream" was a joke, but it has certainly become far more socially acceptable than it was back then, even if it isn't as widely popular as a medium. I hear high school kids at the skate park next to my library talking about entry-level shounen like Fairy Tale and it's not uncommon to overhear grown-ass lumberjack-types at work talking about more recent shows for other demographics. In fact, most people don't even look at you funny anymore if you say the word "anime" to them. It may not be mainstream, but we are living in a climate where it easily could become that way.
ok, they are children.
Nothing wrong with that, let's just stop caring about what children think beacause they'll drop anime if they don't care abou it and they'll become more knoledgeable if they do
There are things I can't stand about the board culture here, but the alternatives are so crappy I can't help but come back.
Reddit has all /a/'s flaws but none of its virtues, ANN users manage to watch hundreds of anime without learning a thing, and follow Zac's moronic crusades (anime shouldn't be for otaku, fansubs are destroying the industry, Cross Ange is sexist and we should care about that, etc.) Tumblr is what ANN would be if the userbase had the knowledge base of the average high school anime club member.
If you can suffer idiots MAL's not bad - the userbase is dumb, but dumb's better than the shit some boards put out. It's second-best as far as I know and that's a fucking tragedy.
I don't want to learn moon for raws. I want to learn moon for animu boards that aren't shit.
Depends what you want out of discussion and the community. With entry into the mainstream comes increased visibility and many of the often comforting, less commonly palatable aspects of previously insular communities die off in favor of building a better image among the general population. Some people might like that if they want more of their normalfag friends and/or people in general to be into the medium. Personally, I'd prefer if it stayed as a fairly socially-isolated, though still numerically significant, medium, as I like the little quirks and unique features
read: filthy degeneracyof our communities, which I find to be in their purest and most distilled form on /a/. It's a matter of opinion. However, once we are thrown into the mainstream, there is no going back, and we're currently dangling over it in a fairly rickety suspension bridge.
>videogames haven't had an increase in overall quality since it became popular
/a/'s crusade against all "crossies" and "/v/ermin" has really deteriorated board quality. This /v/ boogeyman has killed a lot of creativity since so many people just want to conform to /a/'s elitist hivemind.
>I'm being genuine when I say that literally every anime site that isn't in fucking japanese is dog shit compared to /a/.
To be honest there's quite a bunch of shit to skim trough before getting to the "informed userbase, discussions and news", but that's part of the reason they're here.
ANN is mostly used as confirmation.
The actual news comes from moonreading anons browsing japanese wbesites like yaraon, most of the time.
Get with the times grampa, the newest boogey(wo)men are tumblr SJW feminazi.
Because /a/ has totally nothing to do with /v/ so nobody on /a/ could be as retarded as GG faggots.
Forums for a lot of things suck because everything about is archived for all to see.
Piss off the wrong users and you'll have a bunch of faggots following you everywhere deralining everything with "THIS GUY SAID THIS SHIT BEFORE, DON'T LISTEN TO HIM".
Not only that but attention whoring is pretty much unavoidable and sometimes encouraged by the dick-sucking userbase looking for approval of the "elite".
Used to lurk there, seems like it's become more empty and shitty. The only place with lots of discussion is the LN spoiler part as you mentioned, but that just brings out the absolute worst literal children to post.
The faggot who writes "The Answerman" column. Read through his editorials if you want to find everything wrong with
western anime fandom encapsulated in a single individual. He's got the worst case of "my taste > your taste" I've ever seen.
That's one of my major complaints about this place. But I'd rather browse a site that crusades against newfags and accepts me than a site that crusades against me and my tastes.
I think anime is safe from them, maybe /a/ isn't, but anime is.
And that makes their bullshit just much more bearable because you know they have absolutely no influence on the industry
the same we have, btw
Sometimes there's some good speculahs, but yeah even that mostly died down these days. Most of it is also due to not having a good show to do it with, but I do wish there's more good OCs coming out. The last good ones was what, Another?
/a/ is fucking dying because those useless piece of shit mods come in every 5 hours to delete 2 threads and leave after for another 5 hours.
Why is this gabrage thread still up? Its fucking /a/ for fuck sake why the fuck don't we have a NEET mod.
Why don't you see for yourself?
That's not necessarily true.
Leaving aside all the images/infographics/funposting/speculah this board churns out on daily basis, there are quite a bunch of things that got done under by /a/nons.
YuuYuuYuu prequel LN got entirely translated and uploaded here.
Boku Girl manga carries the "made by /a/ for /a/" phrase as credits.
Pretty much everything WIXOSS-related (save for the actual anime) has been translated here.
Just to name the first couple things that come to my mind.
I'm the faggot anon here >>118982776, but he's right. Until video games in general entered the mainstream, developers often focused on trying to provide players with new experiences and truly meaningful gameplay, rather than making slight variations on formulae in the interest of appealing to the largest possible audience, because at the time their audience was fairly small and highly critical. You still see this in some of the less-popular genres such as historical simulation/strategy and computer RPGs, but even they suffer from the symptoms. There's a reason we don't see things like Baldur's Gate and Crimson Skies anymore.
As anime is less of a global medium than video games are, I'm not sure how good of a comparison it is, but as there is a lot of overlap with the culture and userbase (at least there used to be) of both, I think some comparison can be made.
>Its fucking /a/ for fuck sake why the fuck don't we have a NEET mod.
Because NEET's aren't hardworking and would laze around doing that too. You might also, I don't know, report and fucking hide? Or maybe don't reply at all?
You wonder why /a/ is so shit, yet you continuously reply?
what a bunch of fags
>If you can suffer idiots MAL's not bad - the userbase is dumb, but dumb's better than the shit some boards put out. It's second-best as far as I know and that's a fucking tragedy.
No,fuck you.MAL is cancer tier with IGN tier scoring. Everything popular gets 8/10+
>anime is safe from them
Thankfully we still have high-quality female characters despite Japan being fucking backwards in such matters, but seriously, feminism would only increase the quality of the average female character.
>Akane Tsunemori, Watashi, Hiyori Iki, Koto, Hajimessu, ...
God save us from female characters with a fucking personality. They have no place in anime.
Bullshit. Self moderation is the biggest joke here on /a/. People sit here and feed troll threads with angry replies until they reach bump limit telling themselves they are doing a service for the board. It doesn't stop anyone from shitting the board, in fact maybe they'll come do it again the next day, it's guaranteed replies
Don't let this poster b8 you into discussing the forbidden topic. Just report them before they get the thread turned into an argument over it and deleted. They've pulled this shit four times this week.
That image is some /v/ tier retarded shit. Neither is it impossible for women to understand and take part in a hobby, nor are they necessarily the first to start ruining something by not getting it. There's always *that* guy and his ilk. The problem has essentially little to do with gender.
Okay, "NEETs". you still prove my attitude.
Your shitty attitude is part of why is /a/ equally shitty. This is our board, if you see obvious bait, you ignore it. But no, you'd rather be ignorant and defiant by saying "LOL MAYBE I SHOULD REPLY. THAT WILL DEFINITELY SHOW HIM!" like a stupid retard.
It's a pity I can't punch you in the stomach. I'd ban half of /a/ with this attitude before I can get to the bait.
Could you please have your argument somewhere else? Even /v/ would be better.
Your posts don't relate to the topic and will probably get this deleted, and it seems every day you guys ruin another thread.
>ignoring shitty bait means being a hugbox
This is your problem. You just have to be an edgy retard who looks for opportunities to insult people as if compensating for something.
I'm not that anon by the way; just agreeing.
>"Listen to us or I'll autistically shitpost you to death."
I don't think you know what self moderation means.
But that's what it is, or did /a/ change the definition because they didn't like it? That was your fucking attitude from the start. even when Moot told you to fuck off, you still act defiant.
I wish he pulls the same shit he did on /pol/ to /a/, because you retards don't get common sense.
>btw ima grill
But you are right about the gender thing.
I see the main idea being the introduction of casuals and hangout, circle-jerk culture.
Maybe someone with more creativity can fix it.
To easily keep track of how what I've watched in the past for the purpose of masturbating my tiny anonymous E-penis and to
keep track of my backlog
I think that's the point the anon is making. It's supposed to be self moderation, but it isn't.
It's the way /a/ attempts self-moderation. It's more than half of /a/'s concept of self-moderation. And correct, it's not actually self-moderation.
>>btw ima grill
I didn't say that, and the fact that you assume it hints me that you can perhaps only think in terms of boogeymen (and boogeywomen). One of the biggest problems on /a/.
>It's spot on.
I'm sure you're a master of social analysis and entirely void of bias.
>neither is anything else on the board
Most threads aren't as shitty/meta as this one at the moment.
>/board/ is shit/dying
Funny how I've been on multiple boards for years and everyone always that EVERY single day.
This place sucks but there is no better place. I just hate the delusion the average poster has here -- they think that they're so much better than every other board when it's just as bad.
Self moderation at it's simplest is telling people to lurk more. That's the essence of it. And there are plenty of anons that don't take it way too far and shitpost in threads they don't like under the guise of moderation.
>I hate everything about /a/ culture but I still post here anyway
Oh lord its another monthly review of /a/ and how terrible it is and how shit it is.
Continue not using your brain and shitting up the board without even realizing then.
>And there are plenty of anons that don't take it way too far
And equally many who do.
He's right though. It must always be the boogeymen.
>bait bait bait bait bait bait
Goddamn, HOW DO YOU NOT GET IT ALREADY.
"HMMMMM WHY IS MY BOARD SHIT. A-HYUCK, MAYBE I SHOULD REPLY TO OBVIOUS BAIT, A-HYUCK"
It's truly sad that I can't punch you throw the internet.
Eh. It's always been like this on the more populated/more insular boards. Pointing out that "cancer that is killing x" has been going of forever in one form or another doesn't make them stop. You just have to learn to ignore it.
I may not be a master of social anal like you but at least I don't deny facts. And saying gender doesn't play a role is blatant ignore if not deny. The reason anime isn't concerned just yet is because it's a western phenomenon. But the day anime is mainstream enough to justify pandering solely to western audience is the day shit hits the fan and this pic will be as accurate for anime than it is for video games.
Damn so many mad people here that got their recommendation threads shitposted and deleted.
>WAAHH /a/ is being mean to me
>WAAHH /a/ keep calling me a secondary
>WAAHH /a/ is being elitist
>There is nothing to like about it.
The only thing to like about it is how you understand more of it than a newfag
It's like a pyramid scheme
>But the day anime is mainstream enough to justify pandering solely to western audience
Man, I needed a good laugh. That won't ever happen, you fucking idiot. Japan would rather see anime die than become Jewish slaves. They don't even show exported BDs/DVDs in the sales numbers because they hate gaijin so much.
>going to /v/-and-reddit-chan when /a/ still exists
how's highschool going?
>i don't care that /a/ acts elitist but i don't like that they act elitist when it's towards me
Nobody asked for a tripfag's opinion.
>at least I don't deny facts
>my opinions are fact
>saying gender doesn't play a role is blatant [ignorance] if not [denial]
The point is that the gender of a person is not a determinant of how likely they are to grasp a subculture.
What *is* likely is that from cultural reasons (upbringing of girls as girly, plus the tendency of men to form "boys only" groups) leads to a society where a female person is simply statistically less likely to be the kind of person to get a subculture.
>I may not be a master of social anal like you
I'd be glad to teach you.
This thread is for posting better alternatives. Everyone here is on /a/ and knows its flaws.
Stop threadjacking into a meta thread because your favorite forum was criticized, and stop feeding the people doing the threadjacking.
I think the word is fairly commonly misused for cases where it's simply blatant exaggeration.
You can always find *some* retards in every sufficiently large group of people.
Old 4chan was simply a different strain of cancer. Remember only half a decade ago people posted things like Advice Animals, Rage Comics and Demotivational Posters without a whiff of irony.
Reminder that the people complaining about /a/ in this thread are the same people that made those threads on /q/.
You know what im talking about those fucking thread were hilarious as fuck.
>>i don't care that /a/ acts elitist but i don't like that they act elitist when it's towards me
HOW ABOUT YOU READ MY FUCKING SENTENCE BEFORE YOU WASTING YOUR STUPID BRAIN, YOU GODDAMN MONKEY.
YOU REPLY TO STUPID FUCKING BAIT LIKE SOME CIRCUS ANIMAL CHASING A BANANA ON THE END OF A GODDAMN STICK.
REPORT, HIDE, AND IGNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOREREREEASAAEADADAD.
REPORT REPORT REEEEEEE-FUCKING-PORT YOU AUTISTIC WASTE OF FUCKING SPERM.
Another fun game to play is to act like you don't know what anime is. People will try their best to explain it to you, even if you break it down all the way to "what are pictures?"
Works for music, too.
I'm not talking about being mean to others, you can be mean to your heart's content. so long as you fucking retards simultaneously fucking report.
Do you people seriously have brains?
>There is nothing to like about making a conscious effort to keep retards out of the board
>Stopped reading after these "quotes".
How new are you?
Alternatively, have you taken a long pause visiting /a/?
You were just pretending?
>I don't even care
That doesn't change the fact that paranoid boogeyman chasers are shitting up the board to no fucking end.
Anyone someone talks about Jews out of nowhere, there's a near 100% chance they belong to /pol/.
>self moderation is bad
If you're gonna act like a faggot and get butthurt and about being called a faggot then fuck off. Self Moderation is the one thing keeping us from becoming along the lines of /v/ or /b/.
These are the darkest days of 4chan. Just look at the threads here - waifu, kiddie shows like digimon, naruto being (almost) accepted, drawfag threads, generals, hot glue threads...
None of this would have been tolerated only a few years ago.
With the loss of the fansub community on top of this, I can't see things getting any better. But I'm staying because there's nowhere else, and it's a good spot to watch the ship sink.
>MAL, reddit, Facebook, gaia, ANN forums, Crunchyroll forums
>out of nowhere
You do realize that the majority of western entertainment is owned by jews, right? That's not some tinfoil hat thing, it's a fact. The point is, Japan will never bow down and suck their cocks. They'd rather see anime crash and burn than submit to another country.
Ironically sometimes my masochist side tries to browse the
MAL forums. I'm already there checking series info, so hey, why the fuck not?
Each and every single time I regret it. That shit is more cancerous and toxic than GAIA used to be with all those r4nd0m p3nguinnn of d00m shit
What's the fucking point? I have to act obnoxious to get a point across. the stupid bait threads keep coming back on the first page and you keep wondering "HMMM WHY DO I KEEP SEEING THIS ON THE FRONT? WHY IS THIS SHITTING UP MY OH-SO-SACRED-ANIME BOARD"?
OH, I DON'T FUCKING KNOW. DO YOU?
>I think this is in part good, but I can't help feeling that /a/ and 4chan are in decline.
I think it's because of nuCAPTCHA killing 4chanX. The fucking algorithm is so inconsistent it doesn't even know what a robot is.
That's not /a/ culture, that's just shitposting by a few retards. Like every board has. There are no sensible anons that do that. They're the exact people that the self moderating anons tell to fuck off.
Naruto was allowed here, even after the hate started (around the GARUTO spam if I remember correctly) A-san stepped in and said its allowed.
I never got why people pretend that never happened.
>ayy lmao, feelsguy and baneshitposting are gonna be remembered fondly
>just like coolface, EFG and pedobear
I wanna see the future "oldfags" feeling nostalgia to what we currently consider cancer.
>Im not gonna deny it /v/ was my main board 2-3 years ago
