"ME!ME!ME! feat. daoko" http://animatorexpo.com/mememe/
So the lyrics-- the FULLY TRANSCRIBED LYRICS-- were finally published on "ME!ME!ME!"'s official Japan Animator Expo website. Now I (and surely others!) just like to find/obtain a good English translation of the song. There are already some TLs floating around, but based on what I've seen, they've either been done by ear (and thus missing some lyrics) or have been translated without clear credit to the original lyrics. (One of the Youtube video-translations doesn't even acknowledge "patchwork" in katakana in its TL)

Immediately wrap myriad of current to oblate
Every day is directly haircut cut in two
All statements until now by returning love
If could be erased
To the falling go consciousness to deep bottom

I sing a song to diversion
The day-to-day foam
I do not stay you do not
" Sparkling moment "
In far distant consciousness
The Kimi fancy alone is
Same dream when that day that
Doing this is because I have seen
Same as when that day that
I have thought of you
Than that you are thought
Much is my crybaby
I have been waiting here
This is the video-translation that I mentioned in the first post, which already has over 300k hits. Thing is, I don't know if this translation was done before the lyrics were actually posted on the website. Also, it seems rather... questionable. For starters, where's "patchwork" in the translation?
Also, this part towards the end. Sounds like these lyrics were written as part of an English cover of the song, more so than a legit translation.:
"By your side, By your side,
I was waiting for you, I loved you.
Hey, hi, hey look, hey, hi.
Hey, hi, hey! Look at the sky!"
I didn't. It was enough to look at the 'translation' in the video description.
>"By your side, By your side,
>I was waiting for you, I loved you.
>Hey, hi, hey look, hey, hi.
>Hey, hi, hey! Look at the sky!"
That's what the singer was saying though, at least what it sounded like to me.
Not so much. See >>119878788
>"eien no ai wa
>mēdē [Mayday] no naka
>eien no ai wa
Maybe those lyrics could make a good or funny English cover for the song, like those "covers" that did "interpretations" (to the ears of the English listener) of the Latin lyrics of the Super Smash Bros Brawl Opening, but I don't think anything more.
>What is the ME!ME!ME! Website
You *can* buy/download the song now.
This is how we feel about your opinion anon. We are Shinji just to be clear.
At least it's not cluttered with people raising the same points of analysis over and over again. And hey, the lyrics finally got released. It's damn good news for those who wanted to understand ME!ME!ME! even further.
Or at least the Japanese lyrics are a *gateway* to understanding ME!ME!ME! even better, considering many of us don't know Japanese.
So much has already been put laid out there, it shouldn't be hard for a knowledgable anon to put these lyrics into coherent, accurately TL'ed English right?
I told you this shit was cancerous. Could we all stop fussing over a stupid fucking music video and move on now?
It's pretty much your standard j-pop lyrics. It's funny how people who don't actually understand the lyrics are acting as though it's the deepest shit in the world like it needs to be decoded.
You should be able to just hover over the embed link and see what it is, you know.
>standard j-pop lyrics
I figured as much. I'm not that other anon, but I'm still pretty curious. I wouldn't ask you to translate it fully or anything, but care to give a synopsis?
Somebody posted the video link with a translation already, so I won't bother. They're right that many of the lines are straight up made up though.
For those last six lines, it's something like this.
is in mayday.
But if the video link has a freaking retard translation, though, with many of its lines being made straight up, don't you think you could refer to or provide a translation? Please?
Thanks a lot for taking care of those last six lines, anon, but really, people gotta know!
It's an app/extension that can be used on google chrome or firefox for japanese translations. Briefly sampling it, though, it feels about as useful to a gaijin as google translate.
Not the anon you were asking for a translation, but I'm an exchange student living in Japan, so my Japanese isn't the worst.
The "retard translation" is... very artistically interpreted, but I'm not sure it's retarded. There are some lines in there that definitely can't be pulled directly from the Japanese lyrics, but I feel like it's pretty loyal to the meaning/feeling of the Japanese lyrics. Or at least the first part is, because I admit I didn't check all of it.
I tried translating the first section myself, but I have 0 TL experience and it turned out retardedly literal.
Yeah, I could probably be more forgiving. And hey, thanks for your effort!
Seems an-already-in-place translation has gotten updated within the past few days. Mind you, the translation seems to be on a very….. TUMBLR tumblr site. Now before/after you make faces at the fact that I'm relying on a post made on
… the translation itself seems to be pretty decent! There might even be a subbed video coming out with it.

(Vagabond's TL part 1/3)
All the time, all the time
We were together, weren’t we?
All the time, all the time
I was thinking about you
You were that way too
You were the same
There were only two feelings
And going ahead, and going ahead
You felt like you were living too
me the sadness and hatred inside of you
The idol of your invention
The vision you made real
Something I’m not
Your conveniences of the past
are patchwork memories
(Vagabond's TL part 2/3)
Could it be the fruit of your indecisiveness?
Hey, give me a hint about living life well
Softly and gently
and at once you wrap up your infinite realities in wafer
Every day it’s cut in two with one direct strike
Love me, give back to me until this very minute
If only I could erase it all
I’ll fall into the deep depths of consciousness
And at the boundary, I’ll warn you
I’ll sing a song as a distraction
Fleeting day after day
You’re not here
like the “sparkling moments” that don’t last
You’re the only one left
in the consciousness that became far, far away
Because that day, in that moment I was having the same dream
I’m thinking about you like that day, that time
I’m much more of a crybaby than you know
I’ll be waiting right here
(Vagabond's TL part 3/3)
How are you going to live now?
How are you living now?
No matter how much time passes, you’ll see defeat
Going along in life with a smile
Your motive is at the bottom of the deep, dark swamp
that’s filled up, like it’s going to overflow
The sight of the memory of that time
Decoration upon decoration, all over and over again
So good, so good
That girl looks fun
That girl that I hate
I did my best as Me
What have you been doing as You?
By the time you realize it, the mirror is in pieces
I so wanted you to realize
Wondering if you’ve noticed yet, wondering if you’ve noticed yet
Because of that, I waited
Because of that, I loved you
Inside my cry for help
This exchange student >>119886195, posting some TL corrections because it's much easier than doing one from scratch. The posted TL isn't bad, but the translator's missing a few basics and doesn't seem to understand qualifying nouns with subordinate clauses.
[s] You were that way too [/s] you did too
[s] And going ahead, and going ahead [/s] and going forward (changed so that it’s clear that the implication here is continued applicability of the other statements, not literal moving forward)
You called me the sadness and hatred inside of you - ambiguous because of apparent simultaneous lyrics. This is probably close enough, although I don’t think the intention was that the singer (“me”) is actually the sadness or hatred, just that the person being sung about is carrying sadness, hatred, and also perceptions of the girl inside of him
[s] Your conveniences of the pastare patchwork memories [/s] A patchwork made of convenient memories from your past.
[s] and at once you wrap up your infinite realities in wafer [/s] LOL, not quite. “Countless realities you rush to sugar coat”
[s] Every day it’s cut in two with one direct strike [/s] Every day you cleave flawlessly in half with a single strike (the subject appears to be “every day”, which doesn’t translate well)
[s] Love me, give back to me until this very minute [/s] Love me back for all the love I’ve given you until now
Well, apparently I'm formatting retarded. Sorry all. The stuff inside the intended strikethrough or italics is stuff I meant to correct; the stuff outside is the correction.
Here's Pt2 of translation corrections.
Because that day, in that moment I was having the same dream >> It’s ended up like this Because that day, in that moment I was having the same dream it
Your motive is at the bottom of the deep, dark swamp >> Your true feelings is at the bottom of the deep, dark swamp
Because of that, I waited >> Even though I waited
Because of that, I loved you >> Even though I loved you
Inside my cry for help >> in the midst of a mayday
Anywhere anymore >> Is no where to be found
In what ways is it so bad aside from the corrections exchange student-kun >>119888619 has made?
Heya, thanks! I guess that about covers it from your end? Was wondering if the content of your first corrections-post meant you found nothing bad in the third part of the translation, but then I remembered the 4chan word limit.
Haha, yes, I absolutely agree. This is a very, very Japanese word though, and it's going to be hard to translate without some big in-depth explanation of the concepts of 本音と建前. I think "true feelings" is probably fine for the purposes of this song, even if the nuances of them being concealed true feelings don't really come through in English.
...sorry, disorganized. There ended up only being two parts worth of corrections. Part 1 is corrections for part 1 and part 2 is corrections for part 2 and part 3 of the other translation.
In regards to the quality of the translation... I suspect the complaint is feel, not accuracy. Both the original TL and my corrections are just trying to get the point across, and have no artistry whatsoever. The "retarded" translation linked on the youtube video may be slightly embellished, but it actually feels like lyrics.
If there are complaints about accuracy though I'd like to hear them.
Guess I can see what you mean. Still, from what I saw of the youtube ver.'s lyrics, I fear the embellishing might've AT LEAST drowned out some of the original meaning. If not outright replaced it.
Any thoughts on this translation choice >>119883986 Why the choice of "in mayday?"
Thoughts in regard to what? My translation of the line is pretty similar to that one ("in the midst of a mayday" vs "in mayday"). If you're asking why it's not "cry for help" like in the original, it's because the Japanese word メーデー is literally a phonetic translation of "mayday". As in they took the word straight from English.
If your question is about "in the midst of" vs just "in", that comes down to opinion about what the singer was trying to do with の中. I promise the translation you quoted is talking about being inside though, not being in a state of mayday (though of course you can infer state metaphorically, but that's not really about accuracy of translation).
>Japanese people are so weird!
>Is this like Kill la Kill?
>Well, as a feminist I'm offended...
>Why can't all animation be good like Kill la Kill?
>It's like that thing from Evangelion :D
>This is so derogatory towards women!
>Cowboy Bebop is the best anime ever made
>It's so deep! There must be a really deep story behind it!
>This is so disgusting!

We were always together
I was always thinking of you
You were too
You were the same
We had just our feelings
And with them
We felt we could live.
You called for me
I am the me inside you
You dreamed up a false idol
A mirage you constructed out of nothing
A patchwork of convenient memories from the past.
Maybe it's my indecisiveness
Give me a hint on how to live well
Infinite realities soon packed into a capsule
Direct, resolute, decisive everyday
Love me, give me back everything up to now
If I could disappear
Deep down, into your consciousness
Tell me to separate myself
I sing to distract
The days are ephemeral
You're not here, really not here
What I remember is
My consciousness fades away
What remains of you is
That day, that time, having
the same dream, like this
Just like that day, that time
Thinking of you.
I'm more of a crybaby
than you think
I'm waiting here for you.
What are you
What are you
to be alive?
No matter how much time passes
you're going to keep living the same way.
Sink your inward thoughts to the bottom of a deep dark bog
They pool up and will overflow
The scene, memories of that time
More and more glorious
Isn't that girl fine?
Looks like fun
Don't like that one
I did my best by myself
What did you do by yourself?
The moment of realization is a shattered mirror
I wanted you to realize that
Not yet, not yet
Even though I waited, even though I waited
Even though I loved you, even though I loved you
Eternal love is
in a cry of Mayday
Eternal love is
Psssh, Nothing Personal, Kid
I have been telling you fags what the lyrics meant since day 1. Girl cheated on dude. Girl was sorry. Dude was pissed and dumped girl. Dude tried to drown his sorrow. But no matter what he does to distract himself, thoughts of her always creep into his mind, and emotional pain tears him apart, every single day, he cant escape it or move beyond her, no matter how much he tries to drown her out.
There is no deeper meaning with otaku imagery. Otaku imagery is used because this shit is made by Otaku with an intended audience of Otaku.
Had it been a different group making this same story, it could have been sports, clubbing, or drugs used as the method of attempted escape. The method of escape isnt important, because no matter what, the message is that the protag cant hide and run from the feelings that come from within him. He cant fight them either. He has to learn to accept them and move on.
That is because girls who embrace femininity are emotionally mature and not resisting their fucking biological structure in the name of political and ideological statements. They are also more stable.
