is a 'love confession' a real cultural thing in japan or is it some awkwardly translated bullshit in anime
I'd like to preface this by saying I know this term gets overused, and incorrectly, but it genuinely applies here.
Are you fucking autistic? How do you not understand what a love confession is?
I think anime fucked me up. this "hang out with a girl as you gradually raise your romance points until you can confess dramatically" or "approach random girl and confess your love" doesn't work at all in america. it's an actual cultural thing in Japan, but nobody over here is used to it, so it will ALWAYS come off as creepy and weird.
I don't even know how you're supposed to ask a girl out, maybe I would if I had watched western media instead of getting all my cultural information from Japan.
I think he's referring to when two people who barely know each other make some kind of confession. Like a high school girl coming out and saying "I love you" to a guy they hardly know
When has confessing love not been a big thing? Are you retarded?
>approach random girl and confess your love
This is what I never understood. How is that creepy? In western media, girls do that all the time, but it's creepy whenever a guy has a secret crush and decides to confess out of nowhere. How fucking weird.
I think he means the out of nowhere bullshit only seen in anime, and the term "love confession."
Well no I take that back, it's common in middle school, but even then we only called it "X told Y he liked her."
>I don't even know how you're supposed to ask a girl out
"Do you want to go on a date?"
"Would you join me for a romantic evening?"
Here are two easy ones to start. Customize as necessary.
I need to be more specific.
>on the school roof
why is the confession moment built up? i realise this is for dramatic effect in anime, but why has this become a universal trope?
why do characters say
>at least you have been confessed to!
and not >at least x said they liked you
Do some high schoolers confess with a love letter?
yeah, you weren't very clear.
OP here. so i had a look at the translation for 'confession' in japanese. seems more associated with expression/declaration, whereas its connotations in the west are guilt/religion/crime.
they should call it 'love declaration'. someone change every sub to 'love declaration'. thank you.
holy shit you guys really are retarded. old married man here, dont fucking ever confess like that
>ask girl on date
>kiss her on date
>call her next day
there. youre done. she will take over from there
>A confession is a statement made by a person or a group of person acknowledging some personal fact that the person (or the group) would ostensibly prefer to keep hidden.
Most people never tell the target of their affections that they love them. It takes courage and they risk screwing with a pre-established relationship or generally having their feelings hurt. I don't see why it wouldn't apply.
>elaborate process of matchmaking
So that's what you call marrying off your twelve years old sisters to grown men ?
And don't you dare tell me "but we don't all do this", I know that, but some of you do.
google was more useful than you. /a/'s rules really do apply.
>/a/'s rules really do apply
What rules ?
Except for the throaway character meant to trigger the love interest/MC's jealousy. More often than not they just watched the object of their affections from afar, then they gather enough courage to confess, get rejected, and are never seen again.
In Argentina you just ask someone out. There is no protocolar love confession thing.
Now that I think about it, it's actually pretty weird if someone out of the blue said "I love you, lets be a couple".
Man, I don't even know what to say. Moonbaby here, and this is definitely not par for the course. It probably happens more than here because of the way anime has built up the idea of kouhaku, but this is not everyone's reality by any means.
Some of the other stuff happens, though, like getting set up by your friends, particularly where everyone goes out together then conspires to leave you two alone for a bit. And sometimes you get asked out by note/letter, but that's kind of lame and immature, I think.
I think it's more like a dramatic cliche that doesn't actually happen that often.
How many of you have run to the airport to catch the girl of your dreams before she flew away forever? Or had your plain next door neighbour dress up like a princess to finally admit she liked you at the homecoming dance? But that happens all the time in western romances.
You guys don't understand. The confession is different than simply saying "I like you, let's go out on dates," it's basically saying "I love you and want to form a serious relationship with you".
Japanese people aren't robots, they flirt and hang out with girls all the time. They have playboys and sluts too, who flit from guy to guy or girl to girl without any attachments.
The confession is something that signifies a desire for a serious committed relationship. It's very embarrassing for a young person because of the gravity of it. It's basically the next thing down from asking a girl to marry you.
I went to South-East Asia this one time.
I was drinking in a bar with my buddy when a set of twins came up to me and started hitting on me. Their father then showed up 5 minutes later (the bar owner) and started telling me what wonderful girls they would make great wives.
It was a weird experience. Gotta love being White sometimes though.
Wow so lol bro I totally know that feel XDddd
OMG no gf right guys? I remember this one time I was watching anime and then there was a scene where they confessed and I was like LOL forever alone
Get this blogshit thread out of here.
Obviously. But it was a fun situation to be in during the moment.
I just said I gay and rubbed my buddies nipple and they left in a hurry. In retrospect, could have been a bad move to make in a Muslim country, but I got away with it.
>asks anonymous virgins on an anime image board for tips on asking out a girl
>still concedes that he'd never have the balls to do it
Oh boy. What a life, I'm sorry I was just so filled with jealous rage that I lashed out. Clearly you have your life in order :^) Le lol
