Bleach thread: Kubo's final form edition. Also, WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON.
>TFW when you realize the real power of Nnoitra zanpaktou is wish fullfilment.
>TFW when you realize that Harribel couldn't fight with her full power againt Toshiro because in her life she sacrifed her life to give birth to her child. Thus her aspect of death "sacrafice".
>TFW when you realize bleach is full of subtle things like that, and dirty level 1 readers will never know about stuff like these.
Seriously tough anyone know about more of these subtle things which are not said straight into our face and we have to figure them out ofr ourself? Some anon also should make a list about these.
Kubo 4th level is the only way to read
>Aizen was free before Genryuusai was kill
>Replaced Genryuu with Ukitake
>Ukitake is disguised Genryuu
>Took Shunsein's eyepatch because fuck that guy
>Aizen got to the palace before everyone
>Is currently fucking with everyone about SK being dead
>Since when were you under the impression you could see all?
>Proceeds to become Madara
Post your faces
shut the fuck up, i hate you fags more than anyone else
Kubo fucking sucks as a writer, it's seriously embarrassing just how bad he is. The only people that like bleach got hooked when they were retarded teens that knew nothing about what makes a good story and only gave a shit about it because of le sword powers XD. Fuck you for wasting my time Kubo.
Nice quads but why do you have to be so salty?
Aizen will probably happen. What's lame is how some people feel the need to force him into every discussion.
On another note, can we discuss Ukitake a bit more? He's played so many roles ranging from hero to villain that I feel we may be heading into uncharted territory as far as his character/motivations are concerned.
He could've been any flavor, but he chose that..
Ukitake is in cahoots with Shunsui obviously, but I don't think anyone will see what's coming because it's going to be an asspull, like the Shihoin shield they used in the Rukia arc.
The Shihouin family crest reflects the meaning of their name (four maple trees temple/court yard) in the rectangular knot pattern and the four maple leaves. But it also encircles a crescent moon, which could tie back to other bleach moon iconography, but more immediately represents "night" which is at this point officially a motif of the shihouin family: Yoru-Ichi, and Yuu-Shi(rou) are written with the kanji for "Night-One", and "Night-Four." Under different circumstances these implications of a deeper history or role could be hand waved as little worldbuilding hooks not meant to be followed up on, but we also know the Shihouin family's sacred relics are set to play a role in this finale somehow. This then begs the question, what about nights 2 and 3?
As Nodt literally thinks Juha Bach is the christian God. His Greatast fear is making him dissapoint thus his Volstanding nam Tatar Foras (fear from god) altough its not really subtle.
It's not so much 'what' they're planning, but 'why'; or more specifically, their motivations.
Shunsui tends to be morally grey and there's an entire subplot missing in regards to his floral robe. 'Loss' seems to be a recurring motif, and he has a character song which seems to allude to something along the lines of having his heart broken. 'Por Una Cabesa', if anyone's interested.
Ukitake on the other hand tends to be neutral good, but honor is also in play as seen in his Kaien/Rukai flashback. Also he was the main player behind Ginjou and the Sub Shinigami badge.
I feel like between the two of them, we get a delicate power balance which could tip in two directions; either they wish to maintain the status quo, or they are bending it for an unspecified goal. I feel like they're vying for a third option in between the extremes presented by Aizen and Yhwach in what direction to take Soul Society into the future.
speaking of names, there is some weird unaccounted for shenanigans going on with the 7th division. We all know that Komamura's lieutenant is Iba Tetsuzaemon (射場 鉄左衛門) but in the databook covering the turnback the pendulum side story we're told that Aikawa Love's lieutenant 110 years ago was a man named Kotsubaki Jin'emon (小椿 刃右衛門) who happens to be the father of Kotsubaki Sentarou, one of Ukitake's two 3rd seat officers. The two 7th division lieutenants' given names, Tetsuzaimon 鉄左衛門, and Jin'emon刃右衛門 are written as "Iron Left Defense Gate," and "Blade Right Defense Gate." But they are, as far as we can tell, unrelated in spite of clearly associated names.
yeah but that doesn't really get us anywhere in trying to link Tetsuzaemon to Jin'emon unless we want to take borderline shippy guesses that Chikane and Jin'emon had a kid together but kept her name for any of a number of possible reasons. Which would also then make Tetsuzaemon and Sentarou either brothers or half brothers.
the names are a distinct and deliberate pair in meaning, both in-world and in regards to kubo's decisions are a creator that is indicative of intent. Like I already said, the assumption that Jin'emon is Tesuzaemon's father based on names is just guessing and also treads on bs shipper logic, but the point is that there is an intended link, it's just not clear what it is.
Naruto fans were strategic and bashed Bleach every chance they got, every where they got - making its already ambivalent reputation even worse among people who never even got a chance to try Bleach. It was a process years in the making (I really noticed it ramping up around 2010 but probably started earlier). It's amusing how Narutards consistently try to team up with Wan Pissers to bash on Bleach when those series are guilty of the same shit.
You do realize that in both his posts he specifically says he's not jumping to any conclusions, right? Both times he mentions the possible father explanation he brings it up specifically to disregard it.
keeping the ball rolling while the thread is slow:
the Ishida (石田:Stone Field) family have a kind of domino/front-end matching chain going on from father to son.
Souken (宗弦:School String) shares the "string" with Ryuuken(竜弦:Dragon String) shares the "dragon" with Uryuu (雨竜 Rain Dragon)
A water dragon is mythically a rain bringer archetype and thus a good omen and sign of fertility. A "Stone Field" is an image or idiom associated with a barren field. Uryuu being the dragon to bring rain to a barren field reflected his initial role upon introduction as the last in his line, thus the one on whom all potential for future growth relied. Kubo emphasized this name when he had Ichigo mispronounce it the first time it came up as Ametatsu, the alternate reading of the kanji for Rain and Dragon.
Less open ended but a fun reminder that Kubo's been at this tricky kanji game from the start. Not the least of which was Ichigo's various puns about 15, strawberry, and "1 Protector".
>What do you think turned Neliel into a little girl?
Hollow bodies, and therefore Arrancar bodies, along with their abilities are an expression of the lost heart exploded into an outward appearance according to Ginjo (and I think Rukia); Nelliel was a wishy-washy Arrancar who could be callous one moment and cheery with her friends the next.
So, it shouldn't be too surprising for the physical manifestation of her Heart (her body) to lose it's stability after Nnoitra damaged that Body considering her inconsistent nature and the psychological shock she went through prior to that.
But it could've been Nnoitra's Zanpakuto just the same.
Nnoitra wishes to be stronger than neliel, Neliel wishes to "escape the endless circle of fighting". Nnoitra hits Neliel with his Zanpaktou -> Neliel becomes a child and loses her memories.
We have no idea what Santa Teresa special power. Its release word can be translated into wish.
Who will comfort her when she finds out Ichigo fucked everything up?
Not every Zapakuto has a special power. Nnoitra's release just gives him his hollow powers back, as does every other Arrancar. If Nnoitra's wish is 'cut things that I hate' then yes, his power is 'wish fulfillment' and so is every other person in Bleach.
similarly the Kuchiki(朽木:Rotted Tree) family has a weird naming scheme where each name starts with a color, sans Rukia whose name has not inherent meaning.
Ginrei is Silver, Soujun is Blue, and Byakuya is White. Similar to the Ishida family's chain effect, Soujun's name reads 蒼純 "Blue Innocent" and the White in Byakuya's name can alternatively be read as Innocent/Pure as well.
Ginrei 銀嶺 Silver Mountain
Soujun 蒼純 Blue Innocent
Byakuya 白哉 White/Innocent <final exclamatory particle>
Hisana 緋真 Scarlet Reality
Rukia ルキア Ru-ki-a
In short, Kubo has a lookalike who does gay porn, and the Japanese picked up on it and shopped the bleach logo on. I have some additional examples on my other HD.
Thanks for this stuff, anon! I always find it super-interesting when people point these things out, although I wish I was deep enough into Japanese to make these connections myself.
Finally the Shiba(志波 :Purpose/Will/Ambition Wave) family had a neat little gimmick, although Kubo dropped the ball with it.
Kaien 海燕 Sea Swallow (as in the bird, not the verb)
Kuukaku 空鶴 Sky Crane (again the bird, not the machine)
Ganju 岩鷲 Stone Eagle
Isshin 一心 One
we all know haschwalthe will have some backstabby plan but I get the feeling it'll just fail outright and he won't ascend to secret final boss status. sort of like Gin's backstabbing plot.
>We have no idea what Santa Teresa special power. Its release word can be translated into wish.
Like this guy >>121201165 said not every Zan has a special power, and that doesn't mean Nnoitra's doesn't like you suggest, but we have to remember all Arrancars are born from a particular want, desire, wish. For instance, Starrk and Lilynette didn't want to be alone as a Menos Hollow, so that wish had them transform into two different Arrancar so they'd never be alone again.
This power to change and acquire strength because of what the Heart desires is something that all Bleach characters have; but it is something deeply ingrained into the existence of Arrancars/Hollows as they are beings who lost what they cherished most before they died.
So, the hearts power to stir change in oneself and the fact that Arrancar's are a mass of souls akin to a Hougyoku means that Nelliel's transformation could've been brought on not just by her own wish (like you said), but because her nature was wishy-washy and not resolute to who she truly was therefore causing her body to lose stability; and that shouldn't require her change to have been caused by a special power Nnoitra might have had.
A little different sort of name play, Yamada Hanatarou(山田 花太郎) has a name in which the meaning of the kanji is irrelevant. Literally it would mean Mountain Field Flower Broad Son. The joke is that in Japanese names there are a few kanji that tend to show up so often and in such generic or literal useage that they effectively carry no meaning on their own. Yama(山:Mountain) is one such kanji, especially in a surname, as being near a mountain does not narrow down much. Da(田:Field) also does not specify much as a surname. Hana(花:Flower) is a common kanji in given names and one that carries very little meaning given that several kanji for specific flowers are also very common in names. Ta(太:Broad) is another cliche in Japanese names that means virtually nothing in practice. Similar to it are kanji for big or great that are just arbitrarily auspicious as a name. And finally Rou(郎:son) a perfectly generic suffix sort of kanji for male names that just indicates that the child is a boy. Similar cliche name enders are things like -suke, and -maru for males, and -ko for girls. So the joke Ichigo and Ganju make about Yamada Hanatarou's name being too normal to remember is because his name is madeup of exclusively common kanji but has no specific meaning to remember it by. There's not quite an english equivalent to it but it's almost comparable to having a name like Peter David Jackson, and people not being able to remember if it's Peter David Jackson, Jack Peter Davidson, David Jack Peterson, etc...
I assumed the reason Nel turned into a child was simply that she lost her power due to the damage to her mask bits (i.e. the prime source of her power, since hollow powers are born from their hearts manifested as masks). The mask being the heart also explains why she lost her memory, aside from the convenient fact that it was a blow to the head.
Shit, all this mask talk is making me think of Persona. Nyarlathotep equivalent when?
no it wasn't. the call was 祈れ "inore," which is the imperative conjugation of 祈る "inoru" which is "pray." 祈 by itself can be read as いのる which can be used as the infinitive form, "to wish" but that's not how it was written or used. As it was, 祈れ can only mean "pray" as the imperative, or "[would] pray" as the hypothetical, but obviously the imperative makes the most sense as it is a literal command.
I don't have the actual porn, obviously, just SFW screenshots that someone shooped Bleach logos onto. As I said, though, it's on my other HD, and going to hook it up is kind of a pain in the ass for such a small task. Maybe later.
Neither did Yhwach, seemingly, yet he still handed out bits and pieces of his soul without knowing it for most of his youth.
I'll go with Aizen's word on this one. He said that they developed powers according to the hougyoku. It's like a mini soul king.
There's more to this than just that. What makes Ichigo so special that he inherited such an ability? There's no explanation for this and there never will be.
Aizen interpreted it that way because the Hougyoku ultimately mimics SK/Yhwach. The key lies in the wording, "the hougyoku can only help you achieve your own potential", it sounds an awful lot like Yhwach "making someone whole" doesn't it?
I fucking loled when Luigi got the Ichigo treatment at the end of this game. (which is mostly a shit game but still cool)
>I assumed the reason Nel turned into a child was simply that she lost her power due to the damage to her mask bits (i.e. the prime source of her power, since hollow powers are born from their hearts manifested as masks). That is essentially what I was talking about in my first post here>>121200768, but what I ended up talking about in the second post (brought on by that other anon) should still be an attributing factor to Nelliel's transformation as well.
>What makes Ichigo so special that he inherited such an ability?
Kurosaki is a Quincy clan name and it means Black Point/Destination and Kubo could easily link it back to Yhwach's own Black-esque theme by making Ichigo his direct descendent.
Or Kubo could have it that due to the special snowflake way he was born his Quincy blood manifested the Soul Distribution trait because he's basically a walking HG/SK imitation.
That or his dormant Hollow Full-bring power linked to his dormant Quincy blood and manifested the Soul distribution that way.
Bleach would've been a fun shounen manga had they not drag it too long.
Oh well, that's how these things normally end up. Like SnK having a snail's pace development and becoming utter shit at some point made me stop caring about it.
>not being on /a/ for the Endless Eight threads
I'm a Rukiafag but Isane a cute, even though she's a noncharacter.
I'm honestly not sure, I think that it's 2 at most.
Isn't Ishida technically a fullbringer too? Ichigo was part fullbringer because of his mom being attacked by a hollow. But Ishida's mom had also been attacked by hollow prior to him being born.
Maybe that's how he was able to avoid the Jewicide? Being part Fullbringer/Quincy.
I seriously can't fucking figure out cowtits. Her powers work like some sort of fullbring zanpakuto fusion and every character that sees it comments on how unique and powerful it is, yet they always harp that she's just a regular human. It makes no sense.
>Starrk and Lilynette didn't want to be alone as a Menos Hollow, so that wish had them transform into two different Arrancar so they'd never be alone again
Can you explain Nnoitra's aspect to me? His aspect was despair. I don't understand. He didn't want to despair so he was angry and wanted to become better than everything? He wanted to be the best around, and nothing could ever gonna keep him down? I am stupid. Please explain to a stupid person.
Do we know any zanpaktou/shinigami/fullbringer/humans?
If Ichigo isn't aware of it, much less in control of it then obviously he won't know what pieces he's giving away.
So if she dies, will he get her powers? I mean, it's always been stated that her powers are pretty OP, but useless because she's useless. But someone like Ichigo could abuse the hell out of them.
>His aspect was despair. I don't understand. He didn't want to despair so he was angry and wanted to become better than everything?
It's not that he wanted to become stronger than anyone because he didn't want to feel despair, it's that he couldn't stop it from eating him up inside so he decided to own it in a way he could get off on; and was through battle and the intoxication that he felt in a fight to the death.
You see, Nnoitra wanted to die, but he decided to die in a way that he wanted and that was through a fight to the death; and that was something that Nelliel would never give him.
More woman than a annoying petite grillet.
Slender amazonian giraffes are where its at.
>implying she's more of a woman than the Kuchiki princess
Why do you insult Rukia when I called Isane cute? What's the hostility for.
This was the last version that I've got.
Now is probably the best time in, like, ever to ask for an update.
Or maybe next week?
Hostilities over how SHIT your waifu is mate.
Well than I thought that the Isanefag was ok but I guess not. Isane officially a SHIT, A SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIt.
Always dismissing us Isanefags being desperate for relevancy when Isane's character has been involved in twice in the war arc so thus far.
I actually got hooked by Rukia, and she is still the only real reason that I'm reading this manga.
>what about nights 2 and 3?
It could be as obvious as there being four siblings, Yoruichi was the oldest and the heir, after she left someone has to have been the head and the way Soi Fon talks to him, Yuushirou is a great deal younger than her.
His mother was never attacked/tainted by a Hollow. Uryuu's grandmother had a scar from a Hollow attack, but that must have happened after Ryuuken was born.
Uryuu's no FB. Either Souken or Ryuuken did something to save him from the selection.
>zero interest in boys
You have to have a Quincy parent to be a Quincy. At least one like the Ishidas. Yhwach turned people and Arrancar into Sternritter by lending them his power, but so far that's been a raw deal.
Orihime's powers woke because of either Ichigo or the Hogyouku, depending on which you believe is true. If she's somehow a Quincy, then one of her parents must have been one or Yhwach gave her some power at some point.
>calling best tomboy a rug munching dyke
Basically, every fucking part of ichigos spiritual power was given to him, and his power level hasn't grown in its peak, rather he's able to use it easier.
That's why against kenpachi, he didn't need bankai. He had hollow/shinigami zangestu power mixed with quincy power. He didn't surpass that sheer feat of power until ulquiorra.
>Either Souken or Ryuuken did something to save him from the selection.
But then they had to have prepared in advance, since he wasn't affected at all. It doesn't make sense that they were expecting it, since Katagiri died. Ryuuken seemed to genuinely have loved his wife, to the point that he was done with all this Quincy shit after she died.
Ychwach's little brother, Soul King's son
So I mean... Ukitake's eyebrows are dark while his hair is light, Kubo could easily pull it out of his ass that Ukitake dyes his hair.
Someone quick photoshop him with dark hair so we can compare him to other characters
I wouldn't be surprised at this point..
>Mfw Izan was supposed to stay dead
>Mfw Kisuke was originally supposed to be villain
Bleach had so much potential but just went the wrong way
No other arrancar turned into a child because he or she got his mask damaged, there was even one who got stronger by breaking off portions off his mask. When Szayel sees the child neliel its his theory that it may be because the damage but he has a second theory which we couldn't heard.
His mask is a mouth which is around his hole which is in his head, based on this I think he really wants to get back what he lost when he becamed a hollow and he remembers it, but he knows he can't get it back. That1s the reason of his desperation and that's why he despises being a hollow.
Did anyone here like Ukitake before this Blood War arc? He was sort of just there in previous arcs, I know he gave the badge to Ichigo and held Yamamoto back with Shunsui once. And screwed around with a joke character before jobbing to an autist. That's pretty much all he's done at a glance.
