Daily reminder the portrayal of the katana in your pathetic animes&mangas is utterly exaggerated. Actually it's quite shitty compared to real swords.
>inb4 this is not how you use a katana, its like a super sharp razor meant to cut through meat
No, katanas were actually garbage. European swords werent just more durable, but also sharper and often lighter (katanas are 2h weapons with some actual weight behind them).
Katana are given quite the backlash lately to counter all the hype. Sadly, people are overdoing it a little. Katana were by no means bad swords. They weren't superior to what Europe had, but if they were "bad" swords, then pretty much all European swords made during the Early Middle Ages and before were bad as well, because they were made in a similar fashion.
>European swords made during the Early Middle Ages and before were bad as well
But that is the point. The rest of the world moved on and turned it into a science. Japan didn't.
>Manage to make a decent sword using worst-tier steel from black sand.
>HURR IT'S SHIT
These pathetic american "documentaries".
My linked video shows someone who actually knows what he does and talks about. One of the best smiths in the world in both european and japanese ways of forging. Also he is decently skilled since a child in japanese and european combattechniques.
>american bullshitdocumentary BTFO
That still doesn't mean that what people had before was bad.
Where do you think did Europe get their iron from during the Early Middle Ages and before?
Europe fought constant wars against different enemies. They had to evolve their weapons in order to survive.
Japan has never been invaded until WW2, which led to people still use poor metal, badly shaped and overweight blades for the longest time. There's really no point in making better weapons if people can't even wear proper armor.
You mean an MC using katana that got rekt from a guy that ran around fucking shit up with a caestus and a grosse messer.
At least try to not following "MC is different" cliche, retard.
If it was poor metal, then most of what was used during the Early Middle Ages was poor metal too, yet it did its job just fine. Japan had a lot of infighting, and when it comes to warfare people usually abandon what is impractical.
>badly shaped and overweight blades for the longest time.
War knife type weapons were also common in Europe. Sabre type weapons have been around since at least the 7th century.
>people can't even wear proper armor.
The Japanese wore mail armour reinforced with metal plates. It was quite comparable with what was worn during the 13th century in Europe.
>the sword used for this wasn't hadn crafted by Masamune
that's why it failed you dipshit. proper katanas could literally cut through your mum if given the chance.
