Why is Nips so interested having Christians in anime? I rarely see other religions in anime, other than Christians.
>In Zoroastrian Middle Persian (Pahlavi) texts, the term xwēdōdah (Av. xᵛaētuuadaθa) is said to refer to marital unions of father and daughter, mother and son, or brother and sister (next-of-kin or close-kin marriage, nuclear family incest), and to be one of the most pious actions possible. The models for these unions were found in the Zoroastrian cosmogony. The meaning and function of the Avestan term is not clear from the contexts.
Don't even try to pretend having a low powerlevel just to start this blatant religion thread.
>there will never be anime about Islamic hashashins
Because Christianity is an exotic religion to them but one they've heard of and know a bit about.
You see the same thing in Western movies where you have Shaolin monks who go around kicking ass.
That's a good question. Most animoo I've seen have Christian wedding ceremonies and chapels. How come these guys do this one sacrament, but not the other six? Do they even marry the traditional way? Or is it that bridal gowns look better on the girls?
Japanese like Christian weddings because they're so much cheaper than traditional ones. Sometimes they won't even have the wedding, just sign in the registry office and then pose for photos in a chapel.
Outside of chuuni fantasies and yuri schools I rarely see Christians in anime
what? im iranian and zoroastrian is essentially our culture etc besides that incest shit
what makes you think zoroastrian is dead? in fact its so widespread to rest of the world that our new year tradition (newroz) inspired many other cultures to light up a huge fire and celebrate around it
Having a huge white wedding dress is romantic. The parts about Christianity that the Japanese like is the whole purity-ideal.
As the saying goes, the Japanese are born Shinto, marry Christian, die Buddhist.
You know how when western animators and movie directors know absolutely nothing about East Asia they just plaster the yinyang symbol over everything to give it an "Eastern" feel? The same applies to Japan, anime and crucifixes. Most Japanese know nothing about Jesus and just put a crucifix on everything because it looks Western and "cool".
>Why is it always catholics
>Largest Christian demonimation by followers
>Most influential Christian denomination in terms of European history
>Most powerful Christian denomination in terms of present day political power (the papacy)
>Most iconic Christian denomination (dat artwork)
Gee, I wonder why the Japanese turn to Catholocism when choosing to depict Christianity.
>and sometimes protestants
Second largest "denomination" and America is protestant, we all know how much Nips love America.
>Wheres muh coptic christians? muh mormon assassins? muh russian orthodox crazy people?
Too small and unimportant. Depicting Cops or Russian Orthodox churches would require a very specific setting. Not that I'd oppose it, an anime taking place in Tsarist Russia sounds pretty neat.
Catholics have the most interesting/engrossing history in both actuality and fiction as you can have a lot of settings that deal with the church.
are you implying jesus was a woman?
you might as well say the Prophet, peace be upon him, Muhammad was a lesbian, that's how absurd that is.
Catholic Christians have survived in Japan in Kyushu for more than 400 years. Samurai Champloo is about them. Just remember the skull with the secret cross in the eye that the heroine is wearing around.
Catholicism is somewhat a part of japanese history. Nowadays it's a religion that has a big public presence despite it's marginal existence when counting followers.
>there will neer be an anime following Ghengis Khan as he slaughters millions of muslim , and only leaves their cult alive so he has more women to rape
Oh Ghengis, you could have saved the world so much trouble if you didnt support freedom of religion.
>Muslims are currently destroying ancient texts and architecture in Syria and Iraq
Islam pls just die already. Atleast Christians made some pretty statues to replace the shit they destroyed.
Same reason with why west have a fascination with asian culture and mysticism. They just think its cool.
But of you want a more concrete answer, I can think of two things:
First, Christians were persecuted in Japan. I'd talk about it, but just go read about the history of Christianity in Japan on wikipedia. Christians were depicted as super sekrit badass clubs for the most hardcore of people. There isba degree of historical admiration and fascination with the determination and martyrhood of these Japanese Christians.
Second, at the dawn of the 20th Century many foreigners that brought Japan to the modern age were Christians. They did alot of historically significant stuff in Japan. In fact, even today, many high institutions and top universities in Japan are or at least include Christian practice. Thus, Christianity is often correlated with refinedness and being well bred in general. This is why you see rich kid private schools in anime or manga having Christian or at least Christian inspired aspects.
Christianity was the first culturally accepted western religion in Japan preached by the Jesuit missionaries. It is to say the matchlock musket would have never existed in the Sengoku period without them. As Japan westernized, so did their religious traditions in those territories.
>3rd world countries bitch and moan for Britain to give them back their antiquities
>They do and they have a shitty revolution and break them all
A lesson in why they can't have nice things
>It is to say the matchlock musket would have never existed in the Sengoku period without them
What you mean missionaries? Because that's bullshit, it was just some Portugese dicks that got lost and ended up at Tanegashima, sold off their guns and then got them copied by some swordsmith from Satsuma
>Drink this blood from a baby I collected after his circumsicion, goy.
>How important was muskets to the Sengoku wars?
Takeda Shingen was seen as one of the strongest warlord because of his Gun complany mounted on horses
Oda Nobunaga befriended the Jesuits just to become the number one buyer of firearms
And they say the Samurai hated guns.
because its the most exotic to them, just like how we find other cultures exotic too.
too bad almost none of them project it right in their media. only few exceptions I can think of is bayonetta and that PS2 game
The estimate varies, but it's generally agreed the Japs adopted the firearm at a rate much faster than Europe did, only to have that stagnate when Ieyasus son decided seclusion was a cool idea
Katana are really actually one of the worst weapons to use at all since most of the time it is employed by an unskilled hand, one that might easily drop and thus lose it forever due to it cutting its way through the earth's crust and mantle as if they were warm butter.
Because Japan has a 500 year old history with Christianity.
There's also tons and tons of Buddhist and Shinto religious themes, characters, and imagery in anime, far more than Christian.
The Shoni are such faggots, why aren't you playing a REAL representation of Sengoku warfare?
SMT is pretty accurate.
They also show YHWH pretty accutately too. (An abusive parent who wonders why his children dislike him)
because Jesus is weeb?
The symbolism is just there for the cool factor but most of it is occult and esoteric in nature (Qabbalah, Enochian, etc.). Not that Japs know the difference since it's all the same to them.
Well there is a pretty big gap in the shit that happens in the New Testament, India claims he went there, China claims he went there, no one knows. The part about dying in Japan is pretty out there though
It's pretty damn reliable, get enough money for her to have about 2000 troops and even if she dosen't roll it you still fuck them up really bad
Childhood is covered in the wonderful infant testament
>Jesus, stop doing magic
>YOU AREN'T MY REAL DAD!
There are even claims he went to some Buddhist temple or something, and that Buddhism influenced Christianity. The more likely story is that both Buddhism and Christianity have a common inspiration. Alexander the Great spread Hellenism to the frontiers of india, bringing Hellenic influences into Buddhism, and the earliest Church Fathers of Christianity incorporated a lot of Greek thought into their writings.
Every organized religion on Earth has a common foundation from Indo-European origins in India, which is why people say Hinduism is the oldest even though techinically ancestor worship ala Shinto and its commonalities is older
Yuzu is really the only decent Musket, it's more tolerable when you play in freemode where officers with bullshit stats are limited. You can of course pay out the arse for huge troop numbers and really fuck generic units up with a typical musket unit with 9 attack
Whats amazing is that most people, specifically Christians and those of other Abrahamic religions, have no idea what Zoroastrianism is, or how it influenced nearly every other western religion with its imagery and duality concepts.
It might not be a dead religion, but its certainly a forgotten one. Especially since most of its practitioners are, like you, Iranian or close to it, and people refuse to associate that part of the world with anything but Islam.
Taiping rebellion? That shit actually pretty dank. But again it's basically Han people rebellion who wanted depose Manchu rulership while installing christian as state religion.
Also there's more Hindu stuff than Christianity in anime, but in Japanese Culture a lot of it is syncretized with Buddhism, so it's harder to spot.
The only major religions left out of anime are Judaism and Islam. The first because Jews are as rare as unicorns in the far east, and the latter because they don't want their heads chopped off due to accidental offense.
It's dead because the Byzantines beat the ever loving shit out of the persians and destroyed their main holy site after which Muhammad gave the killing blow to that religion and over-ran their empire.
Maybe in Catholicism, most protestant denominations give nothing more than lip-service to the "trinity" and couldnt tell you what the holy spirit is supposed to be if you asked them.
All they care about is Jesus being the nice guy you go through to get in good with his dad, who was apparently quite the asshole before he had a kid and mellowed out.
But the christian concepts of angels and demons, heaven and hell, do have roots in Zoroaster
They were mentioned in Muv-Luv material as well, Japan just dosen't care much about them
Heaven and Hell in Chritsianity are far more heavily based on Greek myth with Cocytus and Inferno, I mean Zoroastrians are fucking insane with that whole honey and boats thing
>most protestant denominations give nothing more than lip-service to the "trinity"
That's because they're heretics
Christianity, especially the variety that visited Japan during early contact, projects power like no other religion. It's mysterious, labyrinthine, and with seemingly endless wealth or reach. They build massive stone buildings designed to intimidate everyone in its shadow filled with imagery of heaven and hell, and they're staffed by strange priests who perform alien rituals.
They're like some sort of Illuminati.
Jews just get censored away from anime if they happen to appear in them in any way controversially. Fucking Benny from Black Lagoon is the extent of jewishness in anime. If you try to go Angel Cop it'll all get erased as hard as it can be erased.
