Dragon ball > Dragon ball Z
>No one could fly except Goku and he needed the Nimbus to do it
I agree, but DBZ is still good.
Plus Bulma was in her prime.
Tien could fly
Animal people never went away
Adventure never went away
Comedy never went away
The real reason Dragon ball > Dragon ball Z is the far lower power level of everything. Guns where a legitimate danger to a sizable portion of the cast and normal humans where relevant. Granted most of the time the normal humans (ones that couldn't chi a beam together) where relevant to foil how strong main cast members where.
DBZ on the other hand starts with a threat of the entire world dying to the hands of one being. Vegetta blows up an entire planet and moon on the way to earth. (without charging I might add. He does it casually.)
So right from the get go DBZ decides to be superman level and to try to one up itself in threats / power levels the rest of the way through.
Mind dragonball has always been a little nuts.
Red Ribbon Army Saga was god tier
I wanted to say that nobody will ever argue.
But then a wild faggot appeared
I don't know what you're implying.
If you're saying DB had better fights than DBZ, then you are right.
DB had actual fighting, DBZ was only powerlevels bullshit, invisible because human eye can't follow, who has the bigger ki attack.
Pretty much this, but I forgive the Namek ark because it allows to reach the super sayian stage which is iconic.
Anything after that is pointless.
Vegetta blows up an entire planet and moon on the way to earth. (without charging I might add. He does it casually.)
Goku met someone who could casually blow up the planet way back when he was just a child.
I feel like DBZ is the perfect example of over-explaining/over-developing something. It's nice when things can be simple and magical. Instead of just "Hey. The reason you have a tail is because you're an alien. The reason piccolo looks like this is because he's an alien. The whole reason you're strong is alien" instead of just...goku being some magic monkey boy. It almost feels like it cheapens his accomplishments because...OF COURSE he's powerful. He's part of a supreme race of warrior aliens.
It'd have been neat if Arale showed up again in Dragonball. Like just a short chapter during the android saga or something. She's such a fun character and I wish we got to see her and Goku interact more.
>When was it ever hilarious?
>Tien uses that four arm attacks
>Goku starts fucking with him using after-image to give himself 8 arms
Come on son, it was funny and serious when it needed to be.
I miss the Akira Toriyama that just loved to draw cute girls with heavy weaponry.
It really does. Everything got stiffer and less lively. Also I kinda preferred it when Goku was muscular but not like...RIPPLING. Saiyan Saga Goku was my favorite version for that.
I really have to appreciate Toriyama's vehicle drawing skills.
>yfw they changed Piccolo's blood from red to purple to pass him off as an alien rather than a demon
but you're definitely right OP, especially about the flying
there's a reason Toriyama had Goku's nimbus destroyed for a while until he got it back. he had to do more adventuring when he couldn't fly.
I just finished Dragon Ball. The latter half of that was even much less enjoyable to me. It was almost completely serious. I loved the lighthearted, comedic, ecchi, fun first half.
Could I get some series recommendations similar to that first half?
the first half of hunter x hunter before it gets all serious business
gon is partially inspired by goku. he has black spiky hair and the first thing he does is catch a fish larger than his own body
it's not a dragon ball rip off by any means though, just inspired by it
So we're all agreed, right?
Red Ribbon (Blue > Tao/Red > Sivler/White) > 1st Tenkaichi Budokai > King Piccolo > Emperor Pilaf > Fortuneteller Baba > 2nd Tenkaichi Budokai > Piccolo Jr
>he thinks there's a difference between DB and DBZ
nigger it's one and the same. The mood changed when the first timeskip happened, not when you started watching toonami.
and the later stuff has some solid martial arts in it, much better than lil' stubby limbs in the early days.
read the fucking manga, idiots.
