People are only ignoring it, because it is obvious winner and movies don't really count.
> Shingeki no Bahamut
Jesus christ, how disgusting.
I highly recommend checking out this deep and introspective series.
One of the best anime I've seen in a while. Hopefully it will get a 2nd season after selling so well.
Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso has been great. I'm ready to die with my waifu.
You're retarded and don't even have an idea of what you're talking about then because the actual animation in Ping Pong was great when it needed to be. What you don't like is the art style moron which is subjective and holds close to no importance in determining how good a series is. Ping Pong is by far the AOTY because it had at least a semblance of good storytelling.
I really enjoyed Nozaki-kun. It's made its way to one of my go-to comfy shows
Why is Seo so best?
Hana probably was the best thing out 2014 though, and one of the best parts of Monogatari overall.
You should at least specify Infected. Spread ruined the series.
>What you don't like is the art style
I liked the art style you moron, I had read the manga before. And you are fuckin delusional if you really believe that the animation was good.
Yuuki Yuuna, Sabagebu, and Ping Pong were all really good. If you count sequels of stuff from previous years, Mushishi and Monogatari are also up there. Winter season was kind of weak.

Sasuga shitposter, you really pulled the wool over our eyes.
While true, the consistent quality of it is about as low as what you mentioned. Thus, when something comes out of the pack that is well executed it automatically beats out any CGDCT. Case in point, Ping Pong.
Except YuYuYu is a mix of CGDCT and a well thought out setting/story so it trumps muh symbolic animation project a decent bit.
Do you not like cute girls? Why are you here.
Setting isn't all, something being CGDCT isn't positive. The characters in Ping Pong are miles ahead of Yuki Yuna which is by the way a drama and therefore must bait the viewer into caring about its characters where it fails unbelievably hard by making them as flat as possible. Whereas in Ping Pong the characters are carefulky developped through realistic character interaction(where Yuki fails yet again), which leads the audience to qxtually care about them whenever something dramatic happens. There's a lot more to address but I think this is enough to prove my point.
It leads you to quietly care about them because you need psychological flaws to be simulated and pronounced to care about characters, and are obsessed with realism in stories which are abstractions of life. To say your tastes apply to all audiences is idiotic, you may relate with the characters, but to audiences that don't care about the depth of sports competition psychology, its just pretentious and boring.
Shirobako is basically CGDCT, just not humor oriented.
Depending on your definition of cute, Wixoss is too. Wow, I actually really miss wixoss...
Anon, that isn't about taste but rather about objective qualities of storytelling which are evaluated in order to determine AOTY 2014.
>but muh subjectivity
Yes, but evaluating something from a critical point of view is also possible and holds the most substance to determine what AOTY should be.
Subjective qualities defined by you, a critical point of view informed by your culture peers and education, to say nothing of the quality of entertainment, and how much someone likes something. Which is what should really by the criteria for someones anime of the year, not arbitrary values assigned by film major jerk offs.
lol holy fucking shit what a bunch of faggots.
it was Gundam Build Fighters or Space Dandy and you all fucking know it. Don't even start with this slice of life, high school harem fucking bullshit.
The only one of those I will accept is Highschool DxD.
>All media does impact and affect us, no matter how subtle it is and whether we realize it or not, and it is important to understand how what we are watching does this. There is no problem with enjoying whatever you want, but you should understand and acknowledge what makes it what it is. In its extreme, the resulting mindset of refusing to accept critical analysis is actually pretty awful. Refusing to accept that critical dialogue is applicable to media (and anime in particular) is essentially anti-intellectualism. Even if you don’t want to participate in critical discussion yourself, it is important to at least understand what you are viewing and how it might affect you. This is something you can do naturally while watching, so it isn’t like it takes much effort. Taking it further can also be also just generally be an incredibly rewarding exercise. Critical evaluation allows us to experience a deeper understanding and appreciation of media in general, which can lead to a much greater, although often very different, enjoyment.
Entertainment through storytelling, since enjoymemt is subjective we are left with storytellling which can be although never perfectly confined to objective evaluation which leads us to the point of this thread which is: determining AOTY 2014 which should be Ping Pong.
I watched the first 3 episodes of Wixoss and it just felt magi madoka but with card games but worse. But that might be my shit taste I dunno.
But AOTY for me had to Haikyuu, I hate the fujo pandering bullshit, but the story and awesome characters mixed with Production I.G.'s animation just made it so desirable to watch week in and week out.
>Abstraction defending intellectual elite's definition of critical evaluation (when the writer isn't even part of it) and why their methodology of defining quality and tastes is right.
>A valid argument
That's like saying lobotomy is right because it is lobotomy, an advanced medical process done by professionals.
I say personally for me YuYuYus more simplified characters and fantastic plots was more effective, emotionally stimulating and enjoyable then a story about the mental issues and inner fights of ping pong players.
You're arbitrarily defining aoty as "the anime with the most well made story telling apparatus defined by my education of art evaluation" which is hilariously wrong. AOTY should be whatever the community feels they like best, even for wrong reasons or no reasons.
If continuations count, then Mushishi Zoku Shou. It definitely had the episode of the year too (Lightning's End. Just, holy shit.)
Shingeki no Bahamut for audience award. Favaro was a great MC. It really nailed the action/adventure genre.
Barakomon did everything right. Honorable mention. Space Dandy was creative. It was like watching animators have fun and cut loose. It's essentially Otaku no Video for this decade. Nothing too exciting, but it brought a lot of people together and they made something for them.
Shirobako is great. It's another one of the best.
>/a/ will never be this fun again
No, its the favorite anime of the chinese cartoon board /a/ for the year it aired, and I don't even think it won either vote for 2013 or 2014, if I recall it was NNB last year. I don't remember what the vote had last year, maybe one of the SoL or mecha shows.
You said the community, the community isn't only /a/ but also the japanese otaku in japan and rest of the world. I'd bet that if they all took a vote then KlK would be aoty 2013.
the only reason people even hated Space Dandy was because it was simulcasted on Toonami.
Who cares about that, /a/ is the only relevant vote in my book and the only one I assumed would ever be discussed here, japs, con-goers, and MAL users can vote whatever trite they want into the spot.
What, you are twisting my words to meet your strange definition of community, when I said "the community" I meant here, this community. I assumed you were discussing /a/'s aoty 2014, if you weren't feel free to fuck off, and discuss the "Le anime fans of the world otaku xd aoty 2014" somewhere else.
I might second this.
Arc-V is VERY good, as an anime, and as a YGO series. If you have ANY interesting in YGO at all, watch it. It's good enough as a series that you'll enjoy it regardless of your ygo tastes.
They do a good job of explaining past stuff without doting.
Yes. There are only one duel so far that felt pointless. The side characters are all fairly developed. Action Duels can occasionally go over the top similar to 5Ds. Plot has foreshadowing and interesting bits everywhere.
It has a slow start and it goes to shit for about 4 episodes but that was several months ago and its been getting better and better with each week, Watch the first 7 episodes if you want to get a feel for it and then decide if you want to keep watching from there;
Space dandy was never hit or miss. It's just the terribly unfunny comedy episodes impact people's opinion of it before they get to the second half of season 1 where the good stuff starts.
gogure kokkuri-san without a doubt was the most fun I've had in years, although sabagebu and gekkan shoujo were both fairly enjoyable as well it's no real contest
you better mean that ironically
>mfw someone saved an edit I made weeks ago
Any of the shows in my pic, you may also include Shirobako if you want.
