I wish I could not get past all the YAMATO DAMASHI that is in the manga. I mean, the special forces are so strong that there is no real conflict in the 20 chapters I've read so far -- not to mention the "GLORIOUS NIPON WILL USE THE GATE TO BECOME BEST SUPER POWER EVER". Sure modern conventional warfare would vastly outpower medievil style fighting, but you need to keep it interesting.
>>122427848 I mean it depends on the story, really. Of course stories from Japan are usually going to show Japan as very strong. It's just almost ends up really boring. Like they go to fight this feared dragon that's fucking shit up, and you think this is going to be some cool "Reign of Fire" type battle. But just cum rockets all over the dragon, and its done.
>>122428148 >other than to show her japanese spirit and Gurrrl power. But that was the only purpose of that scene, to establish the dominance of modern arm forces. Itami could just have shot the prince in order to get the information he needed, instead he let her beat him up. And let's be honest is it that unfeasible for a military to overpower 2 or 3 men armed with swords/shields and clunky armor using modern combat techniques?
>>122428444 >But that was the only purpose of that scene, to establish the dominance of modern arm forces. Itami could just have shot the prince in order to get the information he needed, instead he let her beat him up.
>To show the dominance of modern armed forces, Itami has a 5-foot tall girl beat up a vaguely roman gorilla of a man
It's retarded, completely retarded. And yes, it is unfeasible for a modern combatant with a knife to take out multiple armored elite royal guards who live and die in bloody melee combat with blades. Especially if said combatant is a small, physically/genetically unimposing woman.
>>122428376 Best part is the scene where the princess looks at the sky and thinks actual Valkyries showed up to murder everyone. I bet if someone ever told one of those pilots that they'd all end up popping boners on the spot.
>>122428548 But she doesn't have a knife, she has a rifle with a bayonet, she probably has more range than those guards, is a lot more agile, and if at any time she feels threatened she can just shoot them, which is what she did when they tried to swarm her.
>>122428846 >is a lot more agile Hahaha? She's a small woman carrying more gear than they are. They're large, powerful men in fantastic shape. >and if at any time she feels threatened she can just shoot them That doesn't make the fact that she went for melee with a rifle less utterly stupid.
>>122428951 >carrying more gear than they are Go read that chapter, you clearly aren't remembering it too well. I don't remember which one it is but i believe it's part of volume 5. And as i said before, going for melee served a purpose, it wasn't just because.
Modern trained killers focus on guns, the blade is a backup weapon. Medieval trained killers focus on the sword and melee. You give modern trained killers too much credit especially when said killer is a small woman. >Metallurgy What does that even have to do with this, you're grasping like crazy.
>>122429082 >Go read that chapter Modern soldier gear is quite a bit heavier than full plate armor. >And as i said before, going for melee served a purpose None whatsoever. You can argue that her beating up the prince served the purpose, her choosing melee against a squad of swordsmen with a rifle in her hands is top fucking stupidity.
>>122429157 >Again, you should read it Read it plenty of times.
>Why are you arguing I wonder why I'm arguing with someone who thinks a small japanese woman in shape can match a large pseudo-european man in shape physically.
>>122427655 I, for one, hope for a Chinese/Russian invasion that is being morally supported by the US, who all mistrust Japan monopolizing the gate, fearing that they would use it to become Imperial again.
>>122429103 talk to some people who have actually been in wars, and find out how much they use bayonets, won't bother explaining metallurgy to some one who things science is crazy-grasping, learn to research
A small woman shouldn't be able to beat several elite male soldiers who literally make a living by being good at hand-to-hand combat. That's just how it fucking is. The scene would have been cool if they had just settled at blasting them instead of totally shitting on the suspension of disbelief. >But she had a bayonet! For all intents and purposes a knife on a short, heavy stick. >But metallurgy! Fuck metallurgy, those men should have been able to easily bash her with plain wood cudgels
>>122429765 I wasn't tough to fight it, just takes more than one encounter. The first encounter it flees from them, and it never had the GLORIOUS NIPON on the ropes ever. Really it's my own fault for thinking it was going to be anymore than what it is.
>>122429868 >modern military fighting style Combatives is not very advanced stuff and neither is bayonet training. Certainly not above the wrestling and boxing and weapons training an elite roman guard would have had.
>>122429516 A typical female soldier is not as strong as a typical male soldier. It's entirely unrealistic that she beat on so many men no problem. Bayonets are not magic that kills whoever is on the other end, it's physical combat against multiple people who are physically stronger than her, and she manages to beat them all down no problem, so much so they all needed to charge her at once to have a chance.
>>122430067 >unrealistic This manga is about the Japanese not-army conquering a continent and saving everyone by being the best. Go to /tv/ and bitch about how many times James Bond should have died by now.
>>122430675 >you're furious over a chick getting a badass action moment No. What's making me furious is watching anons defending a stupid scene in this thread. >metallurgy What's this even supposed to mean? Is this some kind of MMORPG where "metallurgy" is like a +10 enchantment on a weapon? >talk to some REAL veterans etc etc Yeah find me some real life veterans who have battled with bayonets against Roman soldiers, and I'll gladly talk to them >this is a fantasy manga so any bad writing is excused! You're just an autist! Please stop
I have nothing against seeing grorious Yamato-jin blowing Western fantasy beasts to fuck (this is part of the appeal), it's just retarded when a small woman can fuck up several male melee soldiers at their own game. Oh well, keep calling autism and perhaps I'll go away.
>>122431556 >it's just retarded when a small woman can fuck up several male melee soldiers at their own game. Like >Kill Bill >Charlie's Angels >Totally Spies >Black Widow in the Avengers >Elektra All smaller women against male antagonists. Oh you only meant ASIAN? >Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon >Rush Hour 2 >Pacific Rim >and as a bonus because not asian: Kick Ass
It's retarded to complain now when it's been there for ages. And before you fucking say they're not the same, they're both semi-realistic so you can shove your opinion up your ass.
>>122432516 >That's not what he said, and if you think it is you are retarded. I know what he said. I just linked those because I don't have videos of actual asian military women in action kicking terrorist ass.
It's stupid to think that just because she was small and asian she can't go up against bigger people. The 2nd best fighter in boxing is a small asian punching niggers and burritos bigger than him. Those videos are supposed to imply that his bs logic is refuted by reality itself.
>>122432721 >I just linked those because I don't have videos of actual asian military women in action kicking terrorist ass. So you don't know what he said. He never said military women are weak. You are retarded.
>>122432752 >it's just retarded when a small woman can fuck up several male melee soldiers at their own game. Nope. His complaint is refuted because >women in military exist >they can kick a man's ass >a woman kicking several men's ass at their own games is nothing different from what we've seen in other forms of semi-realistic fiction read the chain jesus.
The whole appeal of Gate is that a rag-tag bunch of normal human beings use modern technology to knock evil rulers and fantastical beasts on their asses. When one of these human beings suddenly starts acting like a martial arts expert, it all shatters, and that is the problem.
You don't see me complaining about a goth loli swinging a huge axe and massacring people. That's because she's portrayed as a good fighter type from the beginning.
>>122432516 As I said, I like the manga and I only scoffed lightly at the particular scene at the time. Never thought I'd see people defending it.
>>122432721 Holy shit it has nothing to do with race. Please stop trying to paint me as /pol/, must I say it again?
>>122432911 >When one of these human beings suddenly starts acting like a martial arts expert, it all shatters, and that is the problem. It's been stated that she likes CQC as early as fucking Italica.
>Holy shit it has nothing to do with race. Please stop trying to paint me as /pol/, must I say it again? I'm not accusing you of misogynist crap do you see me do that? I'm saying they exist in reality, it's been foreshadowed in the universe, and it's fucking proven with taking several men in melee. What's more it's fiction too and several fictional works have shown women in this light too.
>>122433016 >It's been stated that she likes CQC as early as fucking Italica. Liking and being better than average at something doesn't really suddenly being godly at that thing.
Had they only showed a flashback of her actually being some kind of champion at martial arts/stickfighting/whatever, believing the scene would have been much easier.
>I'm not accusing you of misogynist crap Haha what?
>I'm saying they exist in reality Who? Strong women? Of course. I'm sure that there are female martial arts people who could beat 5 average men at the same time, but this not that kind of situation. This is a fairly good but small female fighter using a bayonet (knife on a rifle barrel) to poke several fully equipped male royal guards to death, without taking any particular damage. And that's stupid.
>>122433963 Actually, if she actually has a bunch of CQC qualifications I will back off on that point. However, it still doesn't solve the problem of the guards dying much easier to a lone human woman than you would expect royal guards to do.
>>122433555 >something doesn't really suddenly being godly at that thing. I don't think you actually read Italica because she's shown to fight back to back with Rory Mercury against a whole crowd of men. Also, Itami remarked that she's a student of the arts.
>believing the scene would have been much easier. Or maybe if you paid attention better.
>Haha what? Saying /pol/ shit. I've never been to pol
>And that's stupid. The trope as a whole is stupid but it works. It's awesome to look at. That's why I don't understand your complaints because this is virtually true for every single action fiction in the world. Male or female.
Oh, I agree. Though, some anons made the point that the guards weren't exactly A+ material that I can see being the case.
The only evidence I saw in that regard was how they didn't instantly form up and charge instead of just rushing. Kind of makes sense, as the only other time she's done this was with a presumably poorly organized group of bandits.
>>122433963 >>That's because she's portrayed as a good fighter type from the beginning. >She is, and I even agree with you on the point that she should have just shot had this not been a fictional situation. What I meant by "good fighter type" was Rory-tier.
>>122434225 >That's why I don't understand your complaints because this is virtually true for every single action fiction in the world. Male or female. Most action heroes are extraordinary people, though.
Here is my point: This show stresses the power of modern weaponry, and this is its appeal: As you read, you keep wondering what would happen if the Itami & Co. went out of bullets. After all, Rory is capricious. Having the good guys suddenly fight on the natives' terms would have allowed for some very dramatic and nailbiting situations but all that is thrown out the window when the girl goes into either some kind of martial trance or the royal guards are actually peasants who bullshitted their way to the position. Guess we'll never know.
>>122434088 >Actually, if she actually has a bunch of CQC qualifications I will back off on that point. So basically, you had no idea what you were talking about, but chose to do so anyway by filling it in with baseless, counterintuitive assumptions.
Maybe you should stop trying to twist things to fit your own preconceived notions and actually try to work with the pieces you're given.
>>122435529 >chose to do so anyway What do you mean "anyway"? It was not a conscious decision.
>Maybe you should stop trying to twist things to fit your own preconceived notions Maybe you should tell that to yourself and every person I've been arguing against too, faggot. Get off your high horse and stop coming with butthurt accusations just because I'm being the bigger man here.
At any rate, it was a silly scene even if she was good at using a bayonet. The fight was easy for the girl and it shouldn't have been, seeing as the opponents were several supposedly trained fighters of high rank.
>>122436049 >It was a conscious decision to make baseless assumptions that directly contradict what actually happened in the story. Not sure what you mean by "conscious decision", but contradicting fact was not my intention, so knock it off.
>[...] learn anything from it. Learn perfect memory, you mean? Not possible. We all slip up sometimes.
>>122436254 I can only think you are being ironic. You made a conscious decision to make baseless assumptions that directly contradict what happened in this thread. The guy you argued with said he didn't know that she had those qualifications, and yet you accuse him of "consciously" deciding to make assumptions that contradict this.
I'm not sure if you are trying to make a joke or if you're just stupid. That's why I am asking.
>>122436254 >>I'm going to assume that she doesn't have extensive CQC training, and then get angry about it Who's twisting things again? What I got angry about wasn't that particular point. It's people defending the scene.
Anyway, this got ridiculous a long time ago so I'll stop replying now.
>>122434813 >Most action heroes are extraordinary people, though. Itami has been lampshaded as extraordinary.
>As you read, you keep wondering what would happen if the Itami & Co. went out of bullets In that situation they didn't. Read on.
>Guess we'll never know. It's a combination of them being intimidated by the guns and Kuri being skilled at CQC. It's not hard to believe even in a semi-realistic setting. You're just being hard-headed at this point.
>>122436360 If she defeated those men, then it follows that she must have training. It would make no sense for a tiny girl to handle a group of big, armed guards without training, and it makes no sense to assume that's what happened.
The manga presented several dots for him to connect, and he chose to draw a cat instead.
>>122436842 >If she defeated those men, then it follows that she must have training. It would make no sense for a tiny girl to handle a group of big, armed guards without training, and it makes no sense to assume that's what happened. You know , that's exactly what people complain about. The reasoning is reversed.
>battle-hardened warriors shouldn't turn into petrified incompetents because of it, though.
Even the motherfucking Delta Force would be intimidated if they had to fight someone with weapons ten times stronger than the ones we actually have.
>So were (presumably) the royal guards. I'm 100% sure that a modern boxer can beat 1 vs 1 a Roman skilled in brawls at any time. The art of fighting without weapons had made huge progresses in 2000 years, you know?
>>122436963 >The art of fighting without weapons had made huge progresses Not necessarily the arts of fighting (though those too, to an extent). but modern men are significantly larger and stronger than men from back then, besides also being not malnourished.
>>122436963 >Even the motherfucking Delta Force would be intimidated if they had to fight someone with weapons ten times stronger than the ones we actually have. Sure, but training should still kick in. Especially upon seeing her using it as a small spear.
>I'm 100% sure that a modern boxer can beat 1 vs 1 a Roman skilled in brawls at any time. Surely. But that wasn't really the case here.
>>122436796 >Fair assumption. (Presumably) battle-hardened warriors shouldn't turn into petrified incompetents because of it, though. We'd be the same if we were confronted with alien weapons that could fry us in less than a second even if those same aliens challenged us to a beatdown.
>So were (presumably) the royal guards. What is CQC under intimidation. Also fist fighting has improved in 2000 years I agree with that anon, modern punching style was only conceived in the 20th century.
>>122436963 Wrestling has been around since before the romans has not advanced significantly since that time, unless you believe knowing how to box or wrestle to be equivalent to hokuto shinken. While the methods with which we wage war have advanced significantly, and so have the weapons we use to do so, hand to hand combat has remained near stagnant in comparison. A trained fighter from the roman era facing off against a trained fighter from today would be basically even in ability.
>>122437204 >We'd be the same if we were confronted with alien weapons that could fry us in less than a second even if those same aliens challenged us to a beatdown. If some ayylmao came up to me waving an otherworldly weapon I'd be petrified but Itami & Co. were humans with knifes on sticks, basically. Not too alien, and we know that these people were used to fighting other civilizations by way of the Gate. They shouldn't be petrified from fear is what I think.
Also, I don't remember the facts, but: Did the royal guards know of the rifles' capabilities upon the CQC? Wouldn't change my verdict but still worth consideration.
>>122437450 If you believe they did not train at all you're sorely mistaken. Of course the modern training would be more effective, if only because of the greater understanding of the human body, but not to such a large degree that it would be a deciding factor. The sport has not advanced that much, and training has not advanced that much, that it could create such a massive gap.
Look Anon, I've started MMA training at the local gym 1 year ago because I was a fat fuck.
Let's take Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as an example. It currently the most practical (if not only) way to fight on the ground, without weapons. A person trained in BJJ will mostly ALWAYS, ALWAYS manage to fuck up a person not trained in it while fighting on the ground with no weapons. No matter the difference in strenght, no matter the skill in brawl. And guess what? BJJ has been "invented" quite recently.
You probably had some guys back in the day that ended up noticing that "Hey, if I do this lever on the opponent arm, it's pretty effective", but it probably was an individual discovery, not organized in systematic training nor discipline by anyone.
>>122438336 >>122438401 That's all? Did the writer take any real world considerations into effect? This is an invasion of another world. I can't imagine a situation where Japan doesn't get the US taking the lead role in such an operation.
>>122438075 Look here you fucking faggot, just because your fat fucking ass got a bit less repulsive to everyone since you decided to take up MMA training and you think you're the fucking shit doesn't mean you know FUCK ALL ABOUT FUCKING ANYTHING YOU GIANT PILE OF SHIT god damn, do you seriously think that anything, any single fucking method of attacking another person, could be a fucking recent invention if it's with the fucking fists every person has been born with for millions of years god damn? Let me tell you something, you giant fucking nigger, you don't know fucking shit outside of your shitty local gym attended by all of two people including yourself, you don't know fucking shit. There is a 0% chance, no, less than 0% chance, that there is a new invention on how to kill someone with you fists. You even had to put invented in quotes, because you fucking know that shits been around, and shit like its been around somewhere sometime ago.
But you know what, you useless sack of shit? It doesn't even matter, because no one outside of your desperate ass even mentioned this shit about someone TRAINED FOR A FUCKING SPECIFIC MARTIAL ART having to fight some untrained hooligan, you thick idiot. you hard headed cunt.
In any sport that existed back then, the average competitor then would be about as capable as the average competitor now, and the reverse is absolutely true. You can't even touch this statement you double nigger, it's too high above you and your penis grabbing gayness.
>>122438505 >In any sport that existed back then, the average competitor then would be about as capable as the average competitor now, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Men%27s_100_metres_world_record_progression Just saying.
>>122438474 Japan basically told all the other nations of the world to fuck off since the portal appeared in Japanese soil. They technically got away with it due to making the JSDF deployment a "defense only" thing, despite the fact they pretty much annihilated the Empire's military force. Later on America has enough of playing the waiting game and tries to get a cut of the deal, but >>122438328 happens.
>>122438505 >that there is a new invention on how to kill someone with you fists. Objectively wrong http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marquess_of_Queensberry_Rules http://www.quora.com/What-are-the-advantages-to-the-Fighting-Irish-boxing-stance http://www.bakitwhy.com/articles/influence-filipino-martial-arts-western-boxing
It's why you see past boxers have the FI stance while modern boxers have the orthodox/southpaw stance.
>>122438582 I'm aware, Russia and China were also making noise about wanting the gate, and then they found three teams that seemed to each be operating without knowledge of the other two. There's no blacks in China's or Russia's special forces, so that left America as the culprit which was a bigger deal because America was supposed to be sitting back and waiting for its cut.
>>122431634 >>122431862 >>122431981 Kinda interesting that most of that one month prep time is trying to figure out how he is going to generate electricity for his electronics; and ends up buying/building a small hydroelectric generator on the otherside.
>>122438880 The Empire is basically Rome except with fantasy races thrown in. JSDF casually curbstomps them while just playing defense. Only real threats beyond the gate are dragons (which tank small arms fire and are more agile than jets), mages (which there aren't that many of), and gods and their apostles (who are actually broken as fuck, but are largely uninvolved save for one).
>>122428376 I can't believe a super ultranationalist pro-nippon righteous military flag-waver would equate his precious honorabru yamato damashii upstanding JSDF with the drug-fueled delightedly insane brutality of the US Army in Vietnam as depicted by Apocalypse Now with Colonel "CHARLIE DON'T SURF" Kilgore and his vicious and bloodthirsty helicopter assault on a coastal Vietnamese town, happily machinegunning and bombing random civilians along with the Vietcong on the just because he wanted to surf off their beach.
Moreover I can't visualize the machinegunning and rocketing of masses of primitives armed with pre-gunpowder weapons from the sky as being anything higher than an unpleasant though necessary butchery, certainly not a glorious crusade of which the SDF should be proud, or something they would want to be leaked back to the people at home to be broadcast uncensored on TV like what happened to the Americans in Vietnam.
>>122439286 >I still fail to understand what could possibly convince someone to try to play chicken against a fucking dragon. How about a complete lack of respect for the dangers of anything local to the Gateworld on account of how everything seems to have been a pushover when facing the JGSDF so far.
>>122439651 Ugh. Whoever made that image is a bastard of two different forms of cretin. Why is the separating line so far on the left? Why does the image cut off directly in front of the black line on the left, but leaves so much space on the right side?
>>122439384 FI wasn't meant to kill someone. Boxing as a sport had evolved was what I meant. The person I was responding to said that punches hadn't evolved to kill someone when it did. It's in my links even. Filipino Dirty Boxing. It influenced Western Boxing which made fighters stop using the Fighting Irish stance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OG0FDl9dI0 First clip I found. You're welcome
>>122439955 >It's in my links even. You mean the dead one? Because the other two make no mention of Filipino anything.
> The person I was responding to said that punches hadn't evolved to kill someone No, he said the moves had all been around for longer than you think. The changes to the styles were only on account of changes to the rules.
What the fuck do the Chinese need Gateworld lebensraum for? Their own country still has huge expanses of barely inhabited land that people can still be moved in to, and am abundance of natural resources. The logistics of trying to move a few million Chinese through the gate is hardly worth the payoff compared to the alternative of just building up more on their own territory.
The same goes for Russia, but multiplied by a factor of about ten.
>>122440626 The Gate is not easily accessible. It lies in the middle of a built up urban area on an island on the other side of the sea. The gate itself is not even wide enough to build a major highway through, severely limiting the lines of supply and communication and the ability to build and maintain and exploit colonies on they other side. The indigenous population is entirely hostile and probably has smallpox too. They already have a wealth of untapped resources on their own sovereign territory that is far far easier to exploit.
Are we supposed to believe that the Japanese let natives freely into their little fort to trade and somehow there hasn't already been mass thefts of firearms from unit armories or from drunken/postcoital soldiers, which will eventually find their way into the hands of Imperial blacksmiths who can reverse engineer the designs into basic matchlocks?
>>122438755 The moment the JGSDF rolled into a neutral neighboring country looking for a dragon without being invited in it changed from a simple domestic security mission to an unprovoked violation of foreign soil. The Americans and the Russians and the Chinese should have been all over that shit, they could have used it to force through a UN resolution ordering the Japanese to withdraw and deploy UN Peacekeepers to the Gateworld in their place.
>>122441371 There is no need to reproduce the metallurgy or the machining techniques. Simply the basic mechanical principles of operation alone, which being basic mechanics are independent of tech level, would be sufficient to give them an idea of what direction to go in. The major hurdle would be inventing gunpowder.
>>122441123 Japan had no problems building a colony or even researching into how to manipulate the Gate themselves. Moreover, the population aren't a legible threat, diseases seem to be limited in part thanks to fucking magic, and you are still ignoring the fact that possessing an entire planet readily accessible only to your nation is pretty much any country's wet dream.
There's hard work to be done for sure, but the wealth accessible on the other side (and I'm not just talking about space or resources) is more than enough incentive for any nation to make a move. They have races that consider 100 to be young for fucks sake.
>>122441426 They'd have to know about that shit first. They also have an Imperial princess who would like nothing more but to fuck Itami and get endless supply of yaoi so there's no issue with them passing by.
>>122441515 They didn't have permission when Itami a uniformed officer took his Hummer and drove in there aided and abetted by a superior officer. The small fact that he had no official orders to do so won't stand in the way of a determined diplomat.
>>122441371 >Japan welcomes such a peace-keeping mission, as long as the UN can guarantee that its troop deployments will not interfere with japanese territories in general and urban areas in particular. >abe trollface.jpg
>>122441426 Didn't one of the early chapters mention that China was trying to get access to the gate via the UN? Kinda wish that angle was played out more (as well as the US trying to leverage its "bases on Japanese soil" card) instead of just having both of them and Russia sending their spec op teams to the same place at the same time.
>>122441728 If the lord was smart he'd do the exact opposite, so that all the invaders act as a restriction on each other because no one nation wants any of the others to gain the upper hand, then he can negotiate a treaty with the highest bidder instead of just Japan.
>>122441821 If you're talking about the special forces segment, it came off as unintentionally hilarious because of the way it was presented. >WHAT IS THIS, THEY'RE USING SNIPER RIFLES AND HAVE THINGS LIKE INTEL SUPPORT! EVEN I WHO WAS IN THE FORCE RECON AM POWERLESS AGAINST THESE SUPERIOR JAPANESE SOLDIERS! That and the infamous bayonet fights are guaran-fucking-teed to set off a thread derailment. Someone probably mentioned this before but little scenes like those stand out because it's shameless NIPPON STRONGU popping up in between arcs of a realistic military operation against the fantastical. I personally don't mind because I'm just here for Rori and the monster girls
>>122442153 Once the US, Russia and China would have moved in, he would not have any authority left. The big powers would be too busy with each other to give him any room to maneuver. In the best of cases, the world would be neatly divided into different colonies. In the worst of cases, they use nuclear weaponry and level the place. Hey, it's to drive out the fucking communists. Can't help it if a few civilians die on the way.
Where do they even get the balls to say this shit. The best they ever did was beat a third rate European power one on one and colonize a practically defenseless China, Korea and a bunch of Pacific islands.
>>122442307 >Once the US, Russia and China would have moved in, he would not have any authority left. He's already got basically no authority with Japan in place. The Japanese can put up pretenses to be humane and fair all they want, but the fact is they are the ones with the guns, and they're obviously taking him for a ride and offering terms that are overwhelmingly favorable for themselves while the locals benefit only mildly. It's unavoidable that they will end up under the thumb of a foreign power, but at least by expanding the pool he can make sure that there is some competition to offer him better terms.
>>122442481 Defeating Russia was impressive because of the speed with which they advanced from a primitive society to one that was capable of playing on the same stage as the Europeans. Also they believe their emperor is descended from a sun god.
>>122442774 If there is anything dealing with the Japanese ought to have taught him it's that the foreigners are slaves to public opinion in the other world and that world's public opinion does not take kindly to blowing shit up especially not helpless primitives. Any major power that actually starts firing would be ganged up on by the other two and would be making itself an international pariah.
>>122443066 It's like the past 100 years went by without you noticing.
The US are at war with primitive armies almost all the time. The media may report it, but nobody even really cares anymore. It's just more pictures of more brown corpses. With communists trying to take advantage of some poor aliens, the US will have ample reason to move in and bomb stuff. It's what they do. It's what they've been doing for decades. I'm not even sure if the Russian and Chinese civilians would even hear about the war if their governments didn't want them to. Even if their populations do find out about it, the presence of evil imperialist America will be ample reason to move in and bomb stuff.
>>122431634 I really hate those modernization stories where someone goes into a medieval world and brings them all kinds of technologies and advances their culture. Technological advancement comes from a culture that needs those advancements. A culture that is not ready for certain technologies won't have any use for it.
Otherwise the millions of people who are trying to help out in Africa right now would have had much more success. But the niggers just like to live in shit circumstances and are insufferable cunts. Modernizing a country isn't that easy. You need a strong leader that declares that as a national doctrine and then it might work after 30 years.
>>122431862 >Does she have any valid reason to marry that one guy?
His grandparents came from her world and have a royal bloodline so his royal magic is strong. She also wants a beta as a husband because they live in a patriarchal society and the only other wedding prospects with a royal bloodline are ambitous people from her own kingdom. So she asks him to marry her and in return he'll get the princess life in the castle while she leads the state.
>>122444069 They don't really give the people there anything. There's a small community set near their base that they've supplied after they lost their homes, but they are mostly self sufficient due to being rich as fuck. Outside of that, they've promised some shit for the sake of politics but nothing truly game changing outside of some medicines.
I'm talking about Risou no Himo Seikatsu. What also comes to mind is this LN where the hero wants to kill the demon lord but she's a hot chick and they engage instead. She then sets out into the human world and governs some kind of province and brings prosperity to it with all kinds of technological advancements. That's some major bullshit right there.
>>122444515 I find the whole premise unrealistic. As I said, you won't magically turn a shithole into a prospering place with some technologies otherwise Africa wouldn't be such a shit place either. It's not technological advancements that further cultural development, rather it's a culture which changes, that brings forth technological development. Just think about it. China had all the necessary knowledge to invent steam engines and the like. It's said even Rome was somewhat semi-industrial in some regards. Yet both cultures failed to have the industiral revolution like the UK did. Simply speaking, it was the difference in what the british society demanded/needed.
>>122444790 >you won't magically turn a shithole into a prospering place with some technologies otherwise Africa wouldn't be such a shit place either. >magically Did you watch it?
The main problem with Africa is that they don't actually want to help the "place". The old colonies regressed significantly since the colonial powers retreated. This is not on account of natural development,
Well, my whole point is that a society needs to be ready to embrace certain technologies. It's not that you can somehow make a society ready to embrace advancements by simply introducing new ideas and technologies.
If you look at history the modernization of countries always progressed around core technologies or industries. For the UK it was the textile industry, for Germany it was the railway, for China it was cheap plastic toys. Needless to say, those three countries had to first create a national identity which incorporates the strive for advancement.
>>122444654 Do you think some african countries would send specops teams?
Seriously, name countries which would have the capability of putting together a spec-ops team like that, have blacks in their military and have the chutzpah to send it to have them operate in a western nation and go after a target guarded by military personnel.
>>122445288 >my whole point is that a society needs to be ready to embrace certain technologies. We have been developing new technologies at a rate never before seen and we are still accelerating. Yes, we are seeing signs of a societal/systematic collapse that will occur in the future, but there is nothing to indicate that we're unable to accept the technologies as they come. And even those collapses won't throw us back into the stone age. They will be stepping stones into the future.
>>122445317 Canada, most of Europe, maybe India at a stretch. There are plenty of countries that could, it's just pretty funny how the government of Japan has decided that only the US has black males in the military.
>>122445288 You're looking at this wrong. The need for a culture of innovation only applies to closed markets, which many of the medieval ages were. But it's all a free market in present day, very few countries have export restrictions. Once something is invented, like in the Germany, it doesn't need to be reinvented again in Tanzania, because it's a free market. Inventions will flow through, and has been over the past century. Worldwide absolute poverty rates have dropped by a half in the last two decades. (Source: http://www.economist.com/news/briefing/21578643-world-has-astonishing-chance-take-billion-people-out-extreme-poverty-2030-not). Africa is improving without churning out engineers (Though it would be better for them if it did).
That being said, bringing back tech from the future would help, so long as it helps them currently. No point bringing back an SSD when they haven't developed crop rotation yet.
>>122445446 >>122445475 You forgot the part about cutzpah. I am aware that there are several countries who could in theory. But they wouldn't have the balls and the ability to handle the diplomatic fallout if they did.
>>122445407 Well...let's see it like this. DO you think people from 50 years ago could appreciate social media? Or smart phones? We shouldn't make the mistake and say that the path for technological advancement is already set in stone and we just have to uncover it. It is more prudent to say that the technology we have today is a result of our own specific culture. At first glance the existence of our gadgets today might seem only natural...but think about it. Who in their right mind would come up with the concept of a railway? Or think about the Aztecs. They weren't even using the wheel because of their mountaineous topography.
>>122445885 >people from 50 years ago Like my grandfather? He's registered on an online dating site.
>It is more prudent to say that the technology we have today is a result of our own specific culture. At over 1 billion people involved in "our specific culture" I would like to reject the notion. That is ridiculous. Things are invented without me or my peers ever being involved in the process. I use them anyway.
>Or think about the Aztecs. They weren't even using the wheel because of their mountaineous topography. So? You think that if they'd been given tunnels and bridges and carts they wouldn't have been able to learn how to use them? Why?
Fucking manga takes millenia to come out. Anyone have any idea where I can get ahead reading the light novel or something. I have found some places, but they only have a few chapters translated and are not up to the manga.
