>>122739427 What ? For now the chapters were all useless. At least let the "princess" live so that she can be useful later, the flashbacks of gall we got in the first and second seasons were far enough to see the cruelty of Mars, we know they're gonna be saved by the Panzer Kunst master anyway, give me some adult Gally already.
Even the graphics looks way less better than before, Gunnm was probably at its top at the end of the first season and at the start of the second season. Sexy as fuck Gally never again, even her young self was way cuter in LO.
>>122739427 I'm with you, OP. But unfortunately, I'm also agree with >>122740124. After all, "Sexy as fuck Gally never again". We can hope that more grown-up version in MC will be pretty sexy, but end of first series/beginning LO version was the pinnacle of character design, nothing can beat it.
>>122744999 Well, guess that a problem of tastes, because I find it completely horrendous compared to what we had earlier before the author had the terrible idea to switch to drawing on a computer. Some pages in Gunnm looked neat as fuck back then, now it's way too clean and doesn't really fit the mood.
>>122747353 I came here to cry at Kishiro being a jew and a hack, but actually I'm crying fuck sequels and fuck digital art, I want my cyberpunk german existentialism martial arts philosophy wet raw emotions manga back
>>122747837 Tits never happened happyness never happened love never happened moving on and growing never happened NEVER EVER >>122747949 >dark subject matter lolwhat those characters are like cardboard cutouts. Bobobo had more pathos
>>122747837 The reason he ended the original alita so fast was that his wife died in a car crash and he wanted to end the series as fast as possible. That's why there was such a huge hiatus between the original alita and aqua knight (which was part of his therapy to get over the depression he had at the time) and that's why last order was so hit and miss when it came to hitting the dark tones. The death of his wife fucked him up.
>>122747949 > Naruto tier The chuunin exam was way better than what we got in LO. It easily was the peak of Naruto back then.
I mean, in LO, I can see Kishiro tried hard to makes detailed explanations and characters, but it just DOESN'T WORKS. We still don't give a shit about the opponents. The fights are way too long and doesn't add anything to the story. The pacing is disatrous when compared to the first season that dealt so well with the many arcs for only 9 volumes. We got : > Prime Hunter with Makaku > "kid" love with Yugo > Motorball > back to a quiet life in a bar, Nova appears > warrior of Zalem > new love with Fogia > motherfucking Den > Fast but great zpilogue The whole things was simply perfect. I guess what >>122748149 said makes sense, but that's just sad.
>>122748149 I remember that there was no source on the story of the wife when I read that, so it could be just a pile of assumptions. and anyway, depression or not this stuff is CRAP. should we force ourselves to like it because he was sad? I don't think so. >dark tones you sound like a faggot out of ANN >>122748349 yeah they use it as an excuse for everything. health problems doesn't mean one is sick though, it means that he needs a break or he's going to break. see Miura and the Idolmaster legend
Also, I am the only one that still liked the epilogue of the original serie ? It was fast but still a great ending for the story, reminding me a bit of Laputa, and the drawings were at their top.
Considering the start of LO was pretty great and developed enough Zalem that got rushed in the first serie, combining it to the original epilogue would easily have made the story perfect. LO had its moments (flashback of Gally's story, the vampires) and good characters (Sechs, M'bady), but the art and tournament were such a clusterfuck it killed most of it. I'm happy to not have disocvered the serie too soon, because following the whole LO chapters by chapters would have been one hell of a terrible experience.
>>122748641 >because following the whole LO chapters by chapters would have been one hell of a terrible experience. I started reading alita in the mid 90s. LO was one of the most painfull experiences of a manga going down the shitter I ever experienced. I was super hyped about it, but even the first volume already felt off.
>>122748149 This is the only result google came out with about Kishiro's wife. there is no trace of it before a month ago, which is also the time when I heard about it here on /a/. can you source that, because if not I feel compelled to call fucking bullshit.
>>122748846 ...no, I meant the original ending. I'd prefer to bite out my own dick before saying LO wasn't bad. vampire arc only flaw was being an arc of LO, thus being balls to the wall out of context. could had Kishiro made another manga instead of milking his hit to the bone? nah man
>>122748751 >>122748846 I think LO is definitely inferior in comparison to the original 9 volumes (too much padding, tournament arc) but there was still enough I enjoyed that I can't say that I am unhappy about it's existence. I just see it as an alternate universe story of the original.
>>122749074 > Vampire arc only flaw was being an arc of LO
Pretty much, yeah.
Somehow, I expected Kishiro would try to go back to Gunnm's level of quality, be it for the art and story, for Mars chronicles. Result ? For now, it's even worse than fucking LO who had at least a good start. The first chapter with Nova and his disciple along with gally coming back to life in a destroyed Zalem were neat as fuck and totally were in the mood of the original.
http://the.sunnyspot.org/manga/gunnm/kinterv.html >Kishiro "...one must continually escape to safer, quiet places. With feet firmly planted on the ground one can see with one's own eyes, ponder and decide which direction to take. At that moment our courage is tested, and to confront it one must be really strong. I think everybody should act like that, and I've drawn Gally as an extreme example of that attitude."
>>122749274 That's totally true. first handful of chapters gave me hope that's why it was so painful and obvious when things weren't alright, and above everything how much time -years - it took to accept that my favorite manga had become indeed a shit
>>122749675 You know what I have the impression he really doesn't give a fuck anymore look closely at the lines, they are pretty half assed. he didn't clean the overedges. most panels have a blank background. hatching is lazy there are also anatomy mistakes. this stuff is barely professional >>122749887 But the medium isn't the cause. did you read the extra chapters? those were already photoshopped, and the art was perfectly fine. he always used digital in a way or the other
>>122750072 The bonus chapters volume with the extra stories ? I read it some times ago so i don't really remember. but yeah, I guess you're right, there are plenty of way to still keep the level on what we had back then. Both the backgrounds and characters are drawn fucking lazily, the hatching is almost non existant. then we have >>122749425 It's so detailed and lively, here I do fee like reading a masterpiece.
I wonder how this will pan out really, story-wise. Like will we just hit a point where we go back to the present time, and jump between flashbacks here and there. Or will it just be entirely flashbacks for a few volumes
>>122750517 Chances are that the RE dude and kishiro kicked some ideas around and were a good team. When miura changed assistants berserk went down the shitter too. Those creative processes are always influenced by all kinds of stuff. The Ido arc of last order was GOLD, everyone just likes to forget about that. That was some classic alita tier amazing shit right there. The battle tournament arc ruined last order and the vampire flashback was really good, but out of place. But the manga wasn't technically bad. The flow of reading that tournament was just shit. When you re-read the whole thing it's a lot less grating than waiting for months to have another dumb chapter full of people shouting their attacks in a comical shonen fashion. It's just insane that he spent more time on last order than on the original alita and managed to make something that is less memorable than the first volume of alita.
>>122750743 >scans for AK I got both volumes sitting in my shelf you pleb. It's super clean and really looks a lot like mars chronicles. The difference is that mars chronicles uses almost no screentones or shading in general. The art is fine and the story is interesting. There were good parts in LO too and I'm willing to give kishiro the benefit of doubt. Maybe the change in publisher will allow him to make an interesting manga again.
>>122750358 What's importat is that now we finally can confirm that Kishiro has always been shit at writing and a scammer jew. all the pieces of the puzzle fall in place: after failing with AK, knowing that he was famous overseas and notoriously bad at writing and a pain in the ass to deal with (see Kopdansha bullshit) no editor greenlit his new projects, because to do something decent they had to give him a writer and hope that his overseas-famous hollywood inflated ego would had approved. so he then raised from the grave Gunnm, and had to redo the ending for obiovsly continuing the story and to prevent the gap beteen writers to stand out immediatly. okay maybe I'm tinfoiling a bit here >>122750909 >>122750915 Yeah Ido arc was good, but look at how the characters were utilized and killed for no reason except drama. it felt like he was drawing characters of someon else
>>122751155 >but look at how the characters were utilized and killed for no reason except drama.
Eh, I'll agree on that too. The whole village being destroyed like that with a full war was a bit silly, but I guess it was just to show how Nova was hated and people just used Ido as an excuse to unleash their rage or simply kill for the lulz for most of the soldiers.
>>122751155 >What's importat is that now we finally can confirm that Kishiro has always been shit at writing and a scammer jew. The co-writer was 19 at the time and his assistant. And kishiro HAD some event that stopped him from writing alita in the mid 90s happen to him. BBS speculation was that a car crash killed his wife. Kishiro doesn't really go into detail but he mentioned "an event" and the crippling depression that forced him to end Alita in several interviews and that he had years of therapy until he picked up a pen again and started to write Aqua Knight to get the depression out his system. That's all facts.
Depression can change a person, mental illness can change a person.
If you look at mangaka there's quite a few that completely stopped what they were doing due to depression or traumatic events. Masamune Shirow went completely batshit after the kobe earthquake destroyed his home. The guy who does Bastard!! had a nervous breakdown and needed loads of therapy and sporadically releases new works every 5 years or so. Mangaka is a very stressfull job and some people are fucked up from it. Akira Toriyama never touched a pen again, except for a few one-shots after DB.
>>122751393 Hagiwara didn't had any breakdown, he's just Togashi lazy and have diabetes. he hit the jackpot with the Bastard audience buying every volume and merch, even if they're 12 in total in all japan. >BBS speculation was that a car crash killed his wife stop spreading bullshit you have nothing to back with. wanna see another pearl? here. his little bro is his assitant since the start probably. and it also manages his homepage >>122751548 Earthquake crushed his home and more importantly the years of research he did for GitS2 he gave up on serious comics since he was 40 already and started to OIL UP
>>122751548 >Elaborate. Shirow was working on his largest and most complex manga yet (neurohard) and a new volume of appleseed when the the Great Hanshin Earthquake completely destroyed his home. The few already published chapters of the new appleseed book were released as appleseed hypernotes later but most of the work on neurohard was lost in the rubble, so there exists only a tiny databook for it.
So he spent the next few years making a terrible sequel to ghost in the shell (manmachine interface) and after that said fuck it and started to draw greased up barby dolls for the better part of the last 20 years and never came back to write any more proper manga
>>122751755 >Hagiwara didn't had any breakdown, Hagiwara had a nervous breakdown, he had to take therapy for it. The guy even mentions how nice the hot springs that he went to after his nervous breakdown in the commentary part of one of the bastard!! volumes.
>>122751755 The car crash thing was a well known rumor during the 90s. But let's not obsess over this tiny fact, because there was an event and yukito mentioned that "event" in several interviews, never detailling what happened.
Hagiwara's mental breakdown is also on record and mentioned in several interviews.
