1 hr left. What to expect /a/?
What I said before in a different thread basically:
It's episodic, that's first of all, so don't expect it to be abundant in plot, it's more about world building, monster of the week and cool fights with character development. The superpowers are cool/interesting (you've got one guy who tosses crosses and transmutes others into crosses too, one guy with ice powers, but using them interestingly enough, one buy with a flame sword who burns his blood to make them, one chic who shoots electricity shots, one crazy driver who uses technology, one chic who has no superpower but being invisible basically and being able to analyze data etc and what else I am forgetting). Volumes 4,5,6,7 had little to do with important plot points.
Volumes 8 and 9 switched again to the main plot and Klaus (red-haired chap) from what I've seen from RAWs and shit hit the fan
Also - fuck knows what's with all people saying it's gay. It literally has not a single gay moment, unless you're a closet homo yourself and just 2 men standing next to each other is already gay for you.
Even those Leon (eye-powered dude) and Zap (silver-haired dude) bro/comedy moments are not gay at all, considering how much of a freakin womanizer Zap is (he actually fucks chics in the manga).
Good. If you want gay shit, this is not what you're looking for - take Owari no Seraph instead. Even Trigun is gayer than Kekkai Sensen to put it this way and you'd hardly say Trigun is gay.
Puns aside, he's the only one who I can even think of as a fujobait actually. And that's only because of his design. Otherwise he's just the token "mysterious, seemingly very kind and smiling, but on the other side very ruthless" character and he's the second strongest in the society, after the red-haired dude.
best part imo is that there is literally not a single annoying character, unless you're really really picky. It makes it enjoyable.
There is 2 MCs, but I know who you are referring to. He's a bit of a pacifist, not Vash level, but he's cool. He's realistic, he doesn't sacrifice himself around to save the world.
Funi needs to get their shit together and announce their schedule.
I wonder if HorribleSubs is going to find a way to bypass Daisuki country restriction just like Dog Days and Barakamon from CR since it's already up on Daisuki for people in Asia.
>what to expect
Don't expect subs, that's for sure.
nope, not finished. There is no way they adapt the current 9 volumes if it's not 2 cour. If they announced it 1 cour - I'll say it straight ahead: drop it after the first 5-7 episodes. I'll do that. There is no way they end it in any decent cliffhanger if they stop at 4-7 volumes, because they have nothing to do with the main plot (or almost nothing). They are all about world building and Leo discovering different creatures/chilling.
Make up your own mind whether to watch it or not.
Nothing beyond the first volume is scanlated. It's been licensed by Viz for ages and relatively unknown so no other group bothered to pick it up.
I read the the first 4 volumes and like said above, it's long episodic stories, about 1-2 per volume. I don't agree that the manga was boring. The stories are fun and full of stylish action, but I'm a fan of world building and characters stories, even if the plot is stalled. (I've read gintama and detective conan. Take that as proof of my taste being shit or otherwise. Either way I'm saying that as someone used to playing the waiting game.). The anime is going to do original material but considering that the pilot chapter was 133 pages and cleverly adapted to fit into 24 minutes, I'd say we'd get plenty of the source material before it goes in its own direction. Bones has been pretty transparent about the original character this time and promoting her heavily, so I have hopes this was something that the team wanted to do opposed to being forced to pull an original ending out of their asses.
Plus I like Matsumoto Rie's direction.
What's confusing about it? First 3 volumes of the manga are more plot related (you get to know more about Klaus, about Leon, about the organisation, about the main enemies, underground mafia, etc etc). After that the volumes become less plot focused and more character and world building focused. Everything is episodic.
You can't read it anywhere, except for the first 3 chapters. I scanned and posted the volumes - the first 4, about 1 year ago.
It's good if it's 2 cour, but it's going to be crap at the end if only 1 cour (guaranteed, guaranteed original ending).
oh yeah, but I'm too lazy of a fuck to upload and post now those 4 volumes, just enjoy the anime. If I see the anime is not doing justice, I'll scan as far as I can and post them.
That's true, but the only staff member that Kyousougiga and this share is the director and a fairly good one at that, so I'm still not seeing the relevance of that anons comment.
There's a lot of literal shit in Gintama. I just included it to save someone the trouble of completely ignoring what I've said just to green text.
I do get some similarities with Gintama, and I dont mean just the voice cast. It's about a group dysfunctional super powered misfits with plot interspaced between short stories. Hell, one story is about Leo, Zapp and Zed spending the whole time just to get some grub but keep getting into fights, which reminded me of that ridiculous story of Gin trying to buy a fan. I really hope the anime does that story. Leo eats really terrible food, starts tripping balls, and has an out of body experience.
>one story is about Leo, Zapp and Zed spending the whole time just to get some grub but keep getting into fights
That's a bit later, no? Like 5th volume or something if Zed is already there
There is also this story, pic related
I feel like normies who expect it to be a normie anime will get disappointed for not being actiony enough (most of the fights take like, literal seconds at best, but goddamn are they fucking cool) and faggots who think this is a normie anime will avoid it because of that. I win either way, because I won't have to deal with retards in the upcoming threads.
Yeah, it's later. I caved and looked at raws when I couldn't find the rest of the english volumes.
Oh, Chain. That fucker was so outclassed, it's hilarious.
so, what do you think they're going to do with Femto in this? None of the character designs for other villains have been announced yet. I'm going to laugh at all the people hyped up for Femto just for him to do the usual Ishida Akira thing and disappear after one episode.
That's one of the reasons why I'm saying it will be shit if it's only 1 episode. From what I've seen from the raws (8th volume IIRC), Femto plays a role and he's one of the main villains again
Hey now, Femto's still around as Nightow's assistant. He can stick around announcing the next week previews or something.
Sorry, I just find the obvious Ishida Akira joke too amusing that I can't be annoyed about it.
Zapp Renfro could've easily been a Gintama character given how much of a hilarious lovable scumbag he is. It's always fun seeing karma bite him in the ass.
Hell, his dick even glows in the episode 2 preview.
This episode needs to come out already, I caved and watched the shitty LQ raw. I want to talk about it. I thought Matsumoto might be stifled by the genre, but she's clearly having a lot of fun here.
Please Matsumoto, give me
pizza stealing benny hill montage
he can see through disguising of any kind and he can make others see what he wants them to see. He can also share his field of vision with others to act as a support.
IMO it's pretty cool, it's not the typical edgy mcedgy eye power. Generally speaking, except Zapp and Stephen, nobody has a generic superpower, at least not for anime/manga.
Even then, the WAY Zapp's and Stephen's powers work is cool anyway.
I thought it got exposition heavy towards the end, which would've helped if it had maybe one more episode. But it was apparent to me that they didn't have much budget to begin with, so she opted to go with 10 episodes to keep the series looking nice enough that ONA material didn't stick out too much like a sore thumb.
Don't fucking scan it.
Stop being a cheap fuck and pay for it.
>pay for it
Well, yeah, the fact that they even had to re-use the ONA scenes show that they didn't have much to work with in terms of budget or time in the first place, although I thought she managed to add them in well. While I personally found the exposition dumps to be interesting, it was a shame that they didn't manage to put anything visually appealing throughout them (that shitty walk scene) and it definitely would have benefited from an extra episode, as you said.
I still love the series though and Matsumoto's work on the ONAs and her various Precure episodes, so I'm still excited to see what she'll do for Kekkai Sensen.
Took the words out of my mouth. I agree. I really thought the staff did what they did with the shitty hand they were given, and it was still satisfying for me.
I don't think you'll be disappointed by her work on Kekkai Sensen, if the rest of the episodes are as good as her storyboarding on episode 1 (watched the shitty LQ raw).
I really think people give Kyousougiga too much of a hard time considering how little Toei actually aided them, by only giving the team the absolute bare minimum, but I can't really blame people for being disappointed when the ONAs where so great and promised so much.
I watched it as well and it was fucking great. It was everything that I expected if Matsumto was given enough time with an actual budget. Which is why I'm dying over here to see it in high quality.
Should've made it clear I was another anon. I liked the TV series.
Honestly I thought it got a shit deal. People who loved the ONA web shorts thought it was spoon feeding all the information. People who watched the TV series exclusively thought even the very first episode was too confusing (when it was pretty clear if they paid any attention at all).
