>>124377053 >Yfw it actually turns out unexpectedly good, and doesn't go overboard with the philosophical musings, has good action, good pacing, and lands the traditional kusanagi attitude near perfectly
We can only hope they don't fucking fuck this up like they did with kite.
Also, >Johansson surely watches Ghost in the Shell
Why the fuck would she try out for a role of a massively popular character without knowing fuck all about her in the first place?
Thinking about johansson watching and enjoying GITS, gets my scrotumal area perpendicular to my ribs.
I'm half convinced that one of the reasons why Ghost is so popular is because it's 1.) A peek into the possible future, and 2.) is every mans genderbent day-dream.
Tell me you haven't at least once or twice wished you were major kusanagi, and I'll tell you to go out and get a handgun permit, buy a handgun, and when you fire it for the first time, I hope you think of my comment and really realize how cool it would be to be the major.
Then again, I suppose that's the purpose of most anime in general...so I'm not really sure how GitS is more or less any more special than any other series, but I'm sure some of you get the point I'm making, no?
>>124378168 I self-insert directly as her, imagine who I would and would not put my sexy ass robotic moves on, how I'd kill people, how I'd use my stealth camo, how i'd jump from rooftop to rooftop, dunno, maybe giving the whole crew a circular blowjob after any hard successful mission is completed, yes, even the two fatties and the old man
I listen to S.A.C 2nd G.I.G's OP and ED every goddamn time no matter what. I don't know why but when I do listen to them, I feel really disconnected from my surroundings. It makes me feel really, what's that word - when you don't care about life itself, or anything, and it's actually your lifestyle, and not just a passing phase, nihilistic? Too lazy to ask for google-sensei's help.
Ghost in the Shell's OP's and ED's are the kind of thing in which it depends on your living situation, your mood, the time of day/night, and the seasons during the first time you hear/watch them.
After seeing them for the first time, most instances after that, namely, rewatching the series, you'll recall the wonder and amazement you felt the first time; nostalgia - for a brief time after the OP / ED starts to play.
Any good series that you watch will always leave a lasting impression on you, and when you re-watch the series, you will likely remember the mood you were in, the temperature it was outside, and a lot of other things that, as silly as it may be, or even sound, always create a very unreal experience the second or third sitting.
>>124376627 Well, All You Need Is Kill turned out paletable, and that shit was retarded. GitS is relatively well written, so they have material to work with. Just don't expect a GitS movie, expect a generic sci-fi that's better than average through virtue of having a better foundation.
>>124380098 Just the fact it's a ghost in the shell live action HOLLYWOOD movie is advertisement enough. No more advertisement is needed after the fact because all the real GITS fans will go see it regardless or not of it's potential suckability.
In essence, they'd be making the movie so that anime fans can scoff at stuff other people watch, namely normalized movies, non anime watchers etc etc, and to make them feel special I;E not only test their willingness to show up at the theaters, but also to reward them with the ability to brag about having seen a movie that many middle aged normalfags may not know about even though it's mainstream as fuck now.
I can see it now. Hipsters amongst the /a/ crowds who actually have friends discussing the philosophical waxings presented in the GITS movie as if they're actually deep, and some normalfag being completely lost not even knowing what GITS is, or what the movie is a remake of, and the hipsterfag laughing while feeling some ridiculous inborn superiority.
The only thing this movie is really going to accomplish, imho, is spreading controversy, and giving hope to the borderline mainstream crowds about their fantasies of anime becoming mainstream enough for their normalfag friends to talk about it in school without getting bullied like you can with video games now.
"oh you watch that nerdy stuff? loser!" >into "it's mainstream, what are you talking about? everyones watching anime these days, YOUR the loser if you DON'T watch anime"
It's odd, because you can now, unlike before, actually say that to someone who doesn't play video games and it actually be partially true.
>>124380223 Or Day After Tomorrow. Who would have imagined that Tom fucking Cruise would be the lead actor in a fucking reimagining of All you need is Kill?
Speaking of reimaginings, at some point when we, I like to imagine anyways - hear the news that some series, somewhere, at some point - is getting recognition by the American entertainment industrial complex, I like to think that some of us actually hope that aspiring authors, mangakas, animators, etc etc, working in japan who see this happen to series upon series, anime upon anime, usually get uplifted and happy over the fact that their series, which started out as practically nothing, got so popular and beloved that it even got taken in by the industrial complex and it pains me to know that, all the way over there in japan, they have no way of knowing how bad it actually is for this to happen, and that in reality the pinacle of popularity is for their series to simply be animated, dubbed in english voices, and sold in american stores AS IT ORIGINALLY IS.
Even having your manga translated into english by a legitimate partner company is good enough by some standards, maybe I just can't comprehend the glory these authors and artists in japan must feel as they wonder about how much attention their creation must be getting when it's announced in a country like good ol murrica as being adopted into live action?
As shitty as it may turn out for us, there in japan, even the fans in japan, and just the normal crowds involved in the anime / manga scene must be happy that other countries are involved with, and love their works of art, so, whatever, more power to them I guess?
Johansson is going to nail this role perfectly, you wait and see.
If you stop and think about it, Johansson's the stoic and commandeering type. Just like Kusanagi. She also has good moves, like Kusanagi. I hope they actually train her in martial arts for the fucking movie though, instead of just using wires to suspend her when she does jump kicks and shit.
I actually quite pictured Kusanagi as the Johansson type, honestly though.
But then again what the fuck do I know, I don't into 3DPD, so I'm pretty much behind the times when it comes to the brain cancer that's on the tube these days.
thank god faglords who can't stop using Ghost in the Shell as an example of mature anime for mature anime lovers will be blown the fuck out once they reprint the GitS manga with the lesbian orgy fan service any of Shirows works. Thank you Jews.
>>124380850 >>124381075 I meant Edge, not day, sorry. I've read AYNIK, but I honestly think it would have been better if it simply were adapted, and made into an animated series, or hell, even a japanimation movie would have worked good, just not a live action one. Edge was by no means bad, that's for sure, but it wasn't spectacular like it should have been.
I think all these recent adaptations of popular, wild, or interesting japanese LN and Manga based stories are more along the lines of practice runs for the real deal, like Ghost, for instance.
Sorry for the fuck up there, but yeah, give me a break, that was a wall of text, one or two fuck ups should be excusable.
But yeah, if they fuck this up, I seriously will lose faith in hollywood for the rest of my life.
>>124381132 Is there actually any salvageable valid point you're making here or are you just rambling on about anti-semitic bullshit and throwing in GitS as the scapegoat as though the two are related somehow?
It's obvious their going to localize the story to the U.S. Otherwise, they'd have to have Asians in EVERY roll, not just Kusanagi. So it'll just be like what they with with Edge of Tomorrow/All You Need is Kill.
Men who go around claiming women shouldn't be protagonists, or that they make terrible main characters remind me almost explicitly of those redundant, retarded, almost archaic church pastors who'd go around claiming Pokemon was the spawn of satan, or of ridiculous christian conspiracy theorists that claim Family Guy is loomanaty / Satanist brainwashing.
I hate men so much sometimes, yet I can't live without the them because there are enough good men to make up for the rest of the toxic ones, just like there're enough good women to make up for the toxic ones.
Remember people, men and women you hear about on television and social networking that do evil, bad, almost scandalous shit, are NOT the fucking majority (women tend to be more scandalous I'll at least admit that much), and it pisses me off when you have a confident, kick-ass character like kusanagi for young women to look up to - shat on by some actual loser.
In short, I'm not sure why I even posted, I'm just a stupid bitch after all.
Just by any chance, how many of us are coincidentally watching GitS at the time this thread popped up? I think it's odd that the very night I decide to marathon Ghost in the Shell, all the sudden a thread pops up. Convenient.
>>124381808 >I'd just rather they have cast an Asian actress. You'd lose a LOT of sales in the conservative american south where racism is a norm. But more importantly than the specific direct loss of sales is that a lot of those people would be using their word of mouth to spread negative comments about the movie. Many of those people are also in media industries as well as blogs and forums, thus a lot of the promotional expense of the movie would become a "lossed offset" expense. Since the promotion expenses are over one hundred million dollars for tentpole movies, that makes defensive considerations for choice of actors a big deal when dealing with the USA market.
>>124377802 >I know live action shit doesn't belong here >The discussion of "live action" television shows is permitted so long as they are distinctly rooted in, or based off of an anime or manga series.
>>124384244 True enough. However discussion aside, it's more easy to believe that the threads, although technically ok - still a meta thread, plus the fact it's live action we're talking about. I did say it's indirectly related though, because the content being discussed is not anime, but is based off of one, and is therefore indirectly related to the topic being discussed when taking into account the source material of the topic related to it.
The point I was actually concerned with was how everyone was spazzing the fuck out early on in the thread. How come you didn't mention that, instead of some meaningless bullshit about meta posting when it was clearly ok for the thread to exist past the half hour mark in the first place you literally responded hours later, anon.
