When did this non-stop crusade against self-insertion and harems begin? They're practically half the reason people even watch this shit in the first place.
>this non-stop crusade against self-insertion and harems begin?
Well the show you posted has unlikable characters for one.
Also, generally, the writing for harems is primarily has the MC getting women without effort.
That's not very fun now, is it?
I dare you to mention that you like a show with a self-insert MC or a harem show.
Especially with shows yurifans love. Ask for one self-insert doujin and they freak the fuck out.
Most of it probably comes from older anime viewers. Many grew up on harem series like Tenchi, Ranma, Ken Akamatsu's works, etc so a lot of the harems that come out these days typically leave much to be desired in every way possible. There are some decent ones about imo but they're overshadowed by the sea of generic LN adaptations.
Then you have people like this guy.
They watch everything with an objective mindset and feel offended when they feel like writing is sacrificed or contrived just to pander to the audience.
I'm somewhere between the two. As long as the cast is entertaining and the series is executed well, I don't much care what the genre is.
This is only an issue because most of the MCs are just badly written. That or the series is just badly written in general. In contrast, it doesn't take much to make a cute girls doing cute things/ecchi show. Of course it will be better if you remove the male MC. Neither tend to go for realism when it comes to relationships and development. However, one is centered around relationships/development while the other isn't.
More like if they didn't make him beta and a fucking push over most of the time.
