>Paying to stream
>Expecting retards who use terrible flash encodings to have better than MD5 password storage
Anyone who gets their financial info taken from this deserves what comes to them. Supporting these greedy middlemen only begats your own misery.
They took the page down, but a screen shot for you.
Surprised it took this long.
>Pay someone to get your details leaked.
>Pirate free animu.
The pirates win again.
with them emphasizing "md5", i would assume they only got stuff like usernames, hashed passwords, emails, and maybe profile info. if they got any payment details, i'm inclined to believe thats what they would have focused on instead. could be wrong though.
if any of you used your crunchyroll password on any other site, nows the time to do some resetting
ITS REAL KEK
>just use crunchyroll, dude, you're supporting anime studios
>what? you torrent anime? but that's illegal! just use crunchyroll.
>desu piratefags are the cancer killing anime
No anon, linux doesn't have to come in to this, if you're using a NUVAC it could be GNU/HURD or if you're using a Lucient Technologies PXE server it could be GNU/INFERNO or GNU/PLAN9
If you get root access you could edit the login log files and erase the evidence of your presence and most admins won't check the logs for integrity, but usually the admin is on high alert since brute force attacks are pretty obvious so that's really only an option if you got the password by sneaking in to the CEO's office and copying his rolex.
>b-b-but there's nothing wrong with streaming, why would i download anime
>streaming newfags totally assruined by hackers
Today is a good day.
Thanks for the help faggots. Already cancelled the card, what else should I do?
Between Youtube Red and this I don't know much more anime can take. This describes the situation between anime growth and money nicely, people like anime but the industry wants to funnel everyone through Crunchyroll who is taking their time to warn others to take steps to protect themselves like changing passwords.
did u know CR is paying for me to go to japan for free, they're pretty cool
Fuck, I remember I had a crunchyroll account back before they decided to go legit like the early 2000s.
I don't even remember the password.
But I don't remember if I ever deleted the account.
I even forgot my username.
I always used the same email though but I have no record anymore of having a crunchyroll account.
this is 2015. most banks will believe you if shady payments show up and you claim that you didnt make them.
just pay with paypal next time crunchyfags
Why would you even use a credit card for internet purchases and not a debit card with a small amount of money on the account? What happened to being paranoid about the internet?
Sweet. I got hit by 000webhost and now CR. Wonder what incompetent organization will fuck my shit up next.
As long as you didn't do something stupid like use a debit card, it doesn't really even matter.
I don't think some of you understand how big of a situation this is.
HorribleSubs could potentially financially fucked over due to this. They have CR Premium accounts from what I know.
They also get some funding through donations to leave their site open, not to mention their ties with nyaa and the Daiz cartel.
tldr, we might not see HS ever again.
Facebook happened. 10 years ago what was common sense is now seen as paranoia. I still don't have any social media accounts and use dummy emails to register for things. I never use my real name on anything I sing up for. Before Facebook this was seen as natural precaution to take on the internet, now people don't think anything about putting their entire lives on the internet.
>post yfw this kills CR and Funi takes over everything
>implying CR is the only place on the internet that streams anime
That is good to hear. But I should probably change my email password now because I don't know if my teenage self back then was foolish enough to use the same password as my email.
It's pretty easy to guess frankly. I would've put money on 000webhost and CR from the list of my junk accounts. Frankly, these fucks probably don't even have more than a few actual IT guys.
Poor CR shills, I wonder what they will do when trying to make people go to their shitty site now.
So I cancelled the card, and they had booked hotel rooms and flights with the card a few days ago and tried to charge 4.3k today. Thankfully they didn't make me pay and the bank automatically declined the 4.3k. Money is safe but what else could they have?
You've got it backwards. Credit cards are better for fraud protection because it's not your money they're stealing. You can get credit card fraud charges removed easily. Debit cards are a different brand of faggotry, where your money is tied up in limbo and you may or may not get it back depending on all sorts of bullshit.
As much as I want to laugh at CR plebs, I feel kind of bad for them.
Luckily it only takes a quick phone call to cancel and get a new card.
>Oops, I was fixing the forum names and copy/pasted Creative twice.
>Database not stolen, breach was minor and user facing. No sensitive data was accessed. Better precautions will be taken.
Well, these hackers stole Crunchyroll's entire database.
That means, if Crunchyroll is hosting Unreleased Anime Episodes on their Sercer that have yet to air on Japanese TV, the hackers now have access to Raws of Japanese anime that are due to air next week or even two weeks later.
>fansubbing is dead
>HS CR rips will be dead
>half of the shows will be mostly funi and some shows are Daisuki/Hulu/picked by slow as fuck groups
>the other half won't get subbed at all
EOPs on suicide watch
They have passwords and email. Change those.
THIS IS WRONG. THEY TRIED TO CHARGE 4.3k TO MY BANK ACCOUNT. DON'T RELAX, CANCEL CARDS.
Doesn't matter. It had been proven licensing companies get access to raws ahead of time.
Remember ANN's streaming service.
They had next week's Ore no Imouto Episode on their server but it was just the Raw.
It doesn't matter that crunchyroll translators are fucking slow.
What matters is that Japan gave next week's anime raws to them regardless of crunchyroll translators.
Not every studio does this but potentially some studios may have already given raws to next week's anime episode to crunchyroll.
I bet no account deletion function is ever going to help you. They probably would've just made backups with your data, I've seen it in the same database before.
Emanga has literally one IT guy. Their site is full of flaws and someone could hack them so goddamn fucking easily.
Fansubbing would pick up if HS no longer exists.
Back in the day we'd have to wait a couple days between raw and a sub coming up; it was fast as fuck to get something in less than two days and some groups would take almost a week per ep. We're so spoiled with HS rips coming out within hours.
We need to inform the japanese.
This can kill CR if the elevens lose trust into them.
We can stop it!
Daiz wants to destroy everything anime-related.
>first rise through the ranks of piracy
>then go legit to the point where fansubbers/scanlators become complacent and just rip from legit sites
>then shut down legit sites and watch everything burn
It was over the phone, but i swear they tried to charge a fuck ton of money. There was a purchase from a few days ago that I did not make, so they have had the info for longer than they made it seem. Cancel cards, they did get the info and crunchyroll is trying to damage control.
>Kids have their parent's cards charged for tons of money
>Crunchy roll's image among normalfags deteriorates
>Closes doors and fansubbing comes back
Is it happening?
While you take "donations" that you need right, hehehehehehe.
Sense this seems to be a defacto CR thread...
What is the end all argument against crunchyroll?
Is there an event where CR really fucked up in the past to be exploited to get people understand why CR is complete shit ruining the industry?
Database breaches fucking suck no matter who they happen to.
They suck even harder when the target that gets breached doesn't have their shit together in terms of password hashing. Nobody should be using MD5 for that in the year 2015, salted or unsalted.
>Implying fansubs are better than professional subs that come out immediately
And here he is.
Well I guess all that can be said is that CR subscribers are now salted and HS users unsalted.
Okay, which fansub groups need to give a comeback?
Crunchyroll just emailed me and confirmed that credit card information has NOT been stolen.
All users do not cancel your cards. Do not believe trolls and piratefags.
Post 5 examples.
Hardmode: Its not autism over minor shit
I don't know why you would trust CR's word on that. Then again I don't give a fuck either way because I get text alerts of any transactions and would just click the little "dispute" button if someone tried to fraud me.
Yeah, but the thing is, with a credit card, if it gets stolen, someone can actually cause real, serious problems to you.
With a debit card where you don't keep more than, say, 250 euros? It would be a bit annoying, but it wouldn't be the end of the world.
I'd rather lose a little bit of money than have to worry about having to deal with the bank over fraud.
Welp, i got hacked. Someone tried to charge 1.200 bucks from my account for housings in Spain.
Bank blocked it.
I thought basically that some fansub guys aspire to get picked up by CR so you know, they can get some compensation.
However there are still plenty of people that can do it, it's just a matter of getting them off their asses to recombine their efforts. I don't think this hack will revive fansubs as long as HS is still on the ball, but it might at least remind/teach us that no, CR is not immortal and yes, we should have contingency plans.
There was once I point where I considered buying a sub.
Good thing that never came to be.
>mfw Crunchyjew still uses MD5
How do people still take these guys seriously? My fucking dog could make a more secure site.
>Batoto now requires login
>CR database hacked
This should be a lesson anons, never use any site that requires you use a password and username.
Futaba forever, anonymous file hosting forever, anonircd forever, ye-haw.
You're getting blown the fuck out by CR users.
They should use their crunchyroll loot to fund an infinite amount of Teekyuu.
>people on CR forums all believe the CR mods
I want to rile them up with some white lies.
Oh, right. How is that independency going anyway?
>Yeah, but the thing is, with a credit card, if it gets stolen, someone can actually cause real, serious problems to you.
Uh, like what? It's not my money they're stealing. It's from a bank. And the bank can't bill you for unauthorized charges. So if you see an unauthorized charge you just notify them and the problem is gone. Debit cards are different because they take the money directly out of your account, and once it's posted that money is fucking gone until you get through a lengthy and painful dispute process. Seriously, debit cards are fucking awful and only poorfags that don't qualify for credit cards use them.
>I'd rather lose a little bit of money than have to worry about having to deal with the bank over fraud.
Yeah, and you only really have to deal with the bank in the case of debit card fraud.
>With a debit card where you don't keep more than, say, 250 euros? It would be a bit annoying, but it wouldn't be the end of the world.
The goal is to not lose any money for things you didn't charge, idiot.
Unless they use ridiculously rigorous access logs that are protected with multiple layers of good security, they have no way to tell what was and wasn't stolen. I don't get why the staff are trying to say they're sure nothing was stolen after only finding out a few minutes ago.
Fuck you, don't touch the dolls.
I've paid for Crunchyroll for years. I'm not going to quit because they got hacked. Even if they got away with all my credit card information and drain my accounts the credit card companies will put the money back so why should I care?
This literally does not concern me
Official spokesperson of Warstrike here.
Who shall we hack next?
>Bank just called me. Apparently someone decided to buy a brand new gaming console in California using my money.
The kicker is, I never subbed to CR. They got access to my Amazon account through my CR logins.
NOTHING IS SAFE. CHANGE EVERY PASSWORD AND EMAIL.
You do know it's 99% likely the guy is at least twice that age and only roleplaying a child, right?
Joke's on them, my dollarydoos aren't worth shit in any other currency!
Oh no, there's a slight possibility that my bank will send me an automated fraud alert call forcing me to press 2 for unrecognized transactions? That could be mildly inconvenient, whatever will I do? Sky falling, etc.

Haikyuu. I couldn't even figure out the second episode and gave up there.
Last time I ever used the site it was for their RPG to buy items and equipment, but I'm pretty sure they removed all that when the site went legal.
Hey while the topic is kind of relevant can you guys tell me how to use Bakabt? I heard people saying that batches were better on there than on Nyaa, but I was having trouble finding shit that would be easy to snag like Evangelion. Are certain things only available on the IRC?

Worrying about this serves no purpose because:
1. All information about the breach was user-facing. No evidence of account information or database retrieval is present. SHOW SOME GODDAMN CREDIT CARD NUMBERS! PROVE IT!
2. Your credit card number is not private. It has most likely been stolen a hundred times, and is floating around in the internet somewhere.
3. Even if your information was retrieved - the CR database of subscriber information is several hundred thousand. The chance for your card to be purchased, picked, and then exploited is very low.
4. If you don't already rotate your passwords or use different passwords for different sites... do it. Internet security is spotty at best. Play your cards right.
5. Banks resolve cybertheft transactions constantly, often just by paying the difference to the account. Numbers on a computer are easy to change. You won't lose your money forever.
American Express offers it as an option in their account settings page. Other cards probably do as well. Look on your online account thing.
I get notified whenever a charge is made and the card isn't present (e.g. an online purchase), a purchase larger than $100 is made, a foreign transaction is made, irregular activity is noticed, or the account balance goes above $500. So really the only way to pull a fast one on me is for someone living in the immediate vicinity to clone my card and use that for a transaction nearby, which would be hilariously stupid on their part.
thank god, someone has finally saved us from the hacker-kun
"Ha ha ha all these streamfags are getting rekt. Not me, because I TOTALLY, TOTALLY don't have a CR sub"
>instead of a day late.
How shitty is your connection because torrenting on the day of the release doesn't take that long.
Oh fuck, my animateusa account got compromised. That was the only account with the CR email and password together. They changed my password and my secret question. I just sent an email about it, so hopefully they can delete the account and cancel the orders.
I have an account with them but because I tried to sign up a gift card mastercard (Vanilla) my account never registered the card info (lack of postal code) so am I okay anons?
>suddenly i remember i subscribed to them 2 years ago with my credit card and then canceled after 2 months
>mfw Crunchyjews are doing all this damage control
If I owned Crunchyroll, and my subscribers's data were stolen, I wouldn't tell them.
So you are telling me that after getting their hands on your credit card info the hackers just thought it would be funny to blow all your money on dragon dildos and send it to you? Even if they did it for shits and giggles I don't think I can't actually believe you.
This is good, it does not goes in the list.
>hackers spent 20k on a cancer charity
I kinda don't want to decline it.
>So you are telling me that after getting their hands on your credit card info the hackers just thought it would be funny to blow all your money on dragon dildos and send it to you? Even if they did it for shits and giggles I don't think I can't actually believe you.
Yup. They must have used express shipping too because it arrived right as the hack was announced. Oh well, I can't let them go to waste I guess.
>Whats the context here
A stupod mistranslation of something written in katakana.
>how does it impair your ability to enjoy the show
The initial post claimed that fansubbers aren't better than professional translators and I just wanted to show that it's not always true.
I could also post some Haikyuu subs if you want another example.
>oh no my passwords
>e-mail account and the paypal account linked to my CR account both have unique 16+ character passwords
>change CR password to new unique 16+ character password
These people just watch the HorribleSubs rip of Crunchyroll, obviously. It's not any better than just streaming it off CR except they're not paying for it. Who's going to wait a few days for fansub when everyone's already done discussing the episode?
