Not 12 hours after a new episode (did you forget?) and all discussion died. That's got to be some kind of record.
Posting about yourself with pictures of Yuru Yuri does not have anything to do with anime. Polls are a nice idea but ronery neckbeards always take it too far. I don't want to know which anons you want to hug.
I for one am excited for more Oomuro appearances. Possibly Mari-chan if they eventually reach wintertime.
The Yurus dress classy.
Is the DEATH shirt in demand? At least with I AM AHO, there's an evident relation to the series. The DEATH shirt will just have people thinking you're into the grunge metal scene.
I have endless admiration for TYO's iyashi-kei works but I feel like some of that atmosphere is bleeding into SanHai! where it doesn't mesh so well with the slapstick.
Fortunately I already love all the characters so I don't need to be "hooked" anymore and can just sit back and enjoy everything.
>I for one am excited for more Oomuro appearances.
Misaki-chi any day now.
I tagged it with Yuru Yuri related tags and called it "Yuru Yuri: Death Shirt" so it shouldn't be a problem. Thought I'd get it together in case someone liked that shirt in particular.
That's the thing that's weird. I'm not bored when I watch it. But I still have the knowledge that the jokes actually landed well in the manga and would land well if Dogakobo was doing it.
baka desu senpai
I wouldn't cuddle with any of you autistic faggots unless you're small and have fluffy and stop hair.
>tfw no chinatsu on the spotlight
>3 episodes in season 3
Fucking side characters.
It'd be interesting to know who they picked. What, are they planning on animating Oomuro-ke eventually? When Yuru Yuri first came out, the VAs weren't well-known either. They go to school for this, I'm sure they know how to act.
Did someone just said, "dududu"?
Oh God I didn't think it'd look that hilarious.
why is Yui one of the most overlooked characters in YY?
oh look he's shitposting in this thread too.
this is how the word filter works

senpai senpai senpai
True, but why is it this way?
Did they just decide to make her like that one glasses guy that every anime has?
there are some valid reasons for my tripcode, but I don't talk about it.
I like to just discuss anime, and people who are angry about my tripcode are worse than me.
Why is Kyōko so shit? she ruined the whole episode.
I thought we were gonna get the date chapter this episode, it was supposed to align with the Akari rape being episode 5 of the first season.
I'm a little disappointed.
Still plenty of episodes left
>Found a Yuifag in my city on the most irrelevant shitty petrostate of south america
>Probably live near him but will never meet him
Fuck, I dreaded the day when I would give a fuck about the anonymous faggots I shitpost with. I guess I'll keep pretending this whole country is full of shit taste and move on alone as always.
Yui is truly the perfect tsukomi, great delivery, loved it when she hit Kyouko in the head at the restaurant. The greatest manzai duo in the show over Titty monster and brat.
Those were great too. Subtle touches followed by a great payoff. Truly a master tsukomi who has perfected her art.
rum raisin is a real thing?! I need to go to my super market right now to try and find it.
Really everything bar Kyouko is making me laugh,
sorry, she annoys me, they've managed to make Brat pretty cute and funny this year. Needs more pure amusement club or ChinaAka though. I feel like Chinatsu has been reduced very much just to her crush on Yui, which is annoying.
>she annoys me
good 1 anon
>can't handle smug
gayest person in this thread
Wasn't Kyouko's outfit in the shop rather out of character? She looks like a grandma with that cardigan over a turtleneck. Did she wear this in the manga too?
She should have worn the cardigan unbuttoned like she does later. Not sure why she wore a turtleneck with it either. Maybe Yui dressed her.
I agree. China shines and is entertaining whenever she's doing anything that doesn't have to do directly with Yui. She played well off of brat when she was teasing her about her spelling, was cute when Kyouko learned about what she thinks of her, and it was fun to see her horrify even the teachers with her drawing as well as see Akane freak her out.
The Yui obsession moments are honestly way too frequent and annoying though, enough so that it's all people can sometimes remember about her despite being involved in some of the show's funniest scenes, especially in season one. Even Namori's kind of moving away from it in the manga, and I'm so glad that she is, since all AkaChina moments are pure yuru in it's rawest form.
I don't think the characters are as fun, because they fall back to being single-minded to pad out each scene, as Kyouko was never this purposelessly annoying. Sakurako sometimes reaches that point.
Does anyone have a full body image of Sakurako (anime) from an official source?
Good one family to be honest, I laughed so hard that I socked my dad in the face with a sock.
Seriously, though, how hard is it to fuck up an OP or ED for a show like this? Keep it major scale, keep it simple. Keep to the I, IV and V chords, MAYBE a VI chord if you're feeling super adventurous. Keep the melodies simple and memorable. That's fucking it. How do you fuck this up?
What's so bad about the OP and ED? Is not better than the previous ones but I think it captures the genkiness and fun of the previous ones somehow. I like them. Whats so bad about them?
>Imagine what it sounds like to native speakers.
Lazylayzazazaza Lazy Yuri Lazylayzazazazaza Lazy Yuri isn't that much superior when written out in English.
The ED is fairly fine, it has a solid refrain and memorable imagery.
Should we just start filtering entire phrases? 'Cause 'family' is far worse than 'senpai'
I don't know. Maybe they gave it to the new guy in the sound department, fresh out of uni. And then they told him that he had to make something catchy and repetitive. And this is the result.
I don't actually know who wrote it, so.
I don't get all the OP and ED hate. The ED is pretty much on par with the other EDs in terms of catchiness. And the OP isn't as great as the first two seasons' OPs, but at least it's not as cheesy as Yurishurashushushu.
You do it, then.
>Even if you understand the language, the repetition woven together with lalala doesn't even begin to approach 'good'.
Wait, are you talking about the S3 ED here?
>People hate the new OP and ED
>Love the shitfest that was yuru happy
Double standards: The board.
I really like the ED.
Anyway, I'm glad this season is also fun and funny, obviously not with the feeling of Dogakobo and the past director, but I'm liking this season a lot. This will most likely be the last season we are getting.
>You do it, then.
Why are you defining misleading translations? The concept of "laziness" in English wouldn't translate to "ゆる" in this context, in fact it describes an action that lacks the intent and volition that "lazy" in English does. It is a localisation that ignores the socio-cultural connotation of the phrase. If you want to enjoy the work, appreciate it in its context instead of removing the idiolect for people who want an approximation and to be able to look at the pretty pictures.
If a Russian went to /co/, asking for something in English to be translated to Russian, would people offer to translate it or would they tell them to learn English? Most people would ruthlessly take up the latter prompt. I don't see why it should be any different here on /a/ with Japanese works. If the board were about discussing animation and comics in English, it would be /co/. We aren't /co/, we're /a/.
>You do it, then.
The original context of this discussion is that someone asked what ゆるゆりゆるゆりゆるゆりゆるゆり sounded like to native speakers. An approximate translation was attempted.
It was poor, but it was going to inevitably be poor. If it's the "best poor translation" then there's no reason not to provide it. If it's a shitty poor translation then come up with something better. Incidentally, in this case (and probably this case only) it's imperative that you end up with a four-syllable phrase when you're done.
Use TL Notes then.
>TL Note: Yuru means ゆる
Stop making me want to violate yuris you baka anime.
Ayayayaya gives even Chinatsu a run for her money.
It's huffing it's own farts at this point, only good thing is the OP.
Was slightly hopeful after the OVA as well, even for slice this isn't good.
The problem with gayness that's too over-the-top is that it starts to get a little one-dimensional. For example, Ayaya and Ayano are about the same gay but Ayano also gets other stand-out personality reactions.
Though really the secondary cast of Yuru Yuri makes the main cast look downright straight.
I kind of wish they had the same sense of motion as the first two seasons. It feels like nothing moves, ever. No cartoon-swoosh jumps, no Akari reactionary buns, and no subtle movements. It feels like every other slideshow slice of life in that respect. At least the source material is amusing. But even the manga has more energy than this.
A transformational translation isn't possible and a situational translation voids the lyrical integrity of the song. Asking how "ゆるゆりゆるゆりゆるゆりゆるゆり sounded like to native speakers" doesn't make any sense because it is a question which answers itself: to native Japanese "ゆるゆりゆるゆりゆるゆりゆるゆり" sounds exactly like "ゆるゆりゆるゆりゆるゆりゆるゆり". It is phonetic, not phonological. This is a misunderstanding of the question.
See above. The problem is that we have people here and in the community who attempt to translate without having an adequate comprehension of both the source language (Japanese) and the target language (English) and of the linguistic field of translation. EOPs who lack comprehension of the source language are relying on amateurs who have far greater sense of pride and ego than ability and willingness to learn. People are honestly better off sucking it up and learning more of the language because the greed and laziness that surrounds the "I want it right fucking now and you better do it for free and make it easy as possible for me to get it" attitude involved in translation/scanlation of manga and anime only serves as a disservice to all involved.
Chinatsu is the only blatant one really, Kyōko has her moments though.
Also, her affection for Ayano kinda messed with their dynamic, its kinda hard to put to words but it kinda works against their former comedic moments.
>This is a misunderstanding of the question.
People were looking for an impression, not a perfectly accurate translation.
>People are honestly better off sucking it up and learning more of the language
No fucking shit, say what everyone already knows for the ten thousandth time. Maybe your subtle dickishness will finally provide the micro-incentive they need to get over the hill.
It's not like I can do a thing about it. I'm going to keep watching and I know they'll have SOME good scenes. I'm looking forward to all the other shit.
Yeah, thats pretty true, it does just jump from story to story and when they do tie it in (like the dual sleepover) everything is forced and not very funny.
Just disappointing, still gonna watch it all though.
Not entirely related to the topic you're discussing, but I wonder what you (and others) think about translating onomatopoeia in songs. Translating onomatopoeic sounds makes the lyrics look clunky (especially if there are no English onomatopoeias that match, and half of the time, there are not); and not translating them makes the song look half-translated. What's a translator to do?
Refuse to translate and call the people waiting for the translation a bunch of unwashed, retarded, unmotivated peasants who should either learn the language or quit watching anime.
Personally I found Shinobu's obsession with Alice to be much more endearing than Chinatsu's with Yui. It helps that she was the main character so she had plenty of opportunities to show other sides of herself.
Maybe it's because Alice reciprocated her love while Yui just sort of brushes off and pretends to forget everything Chinatsu says.
If anything I would think Alice is the Chinatsu of Kinmoza. She's obsessive about Shinobu and Shinobu is oblivious and honestly in general sort of shitty to her, at least in the first season. They're much more lovey dovey in the second.
You must be that autistic /jp/ poster from a couple of months back.
>Maybe your subtle dickishness will finally provide the micro-incentive they need to get over the hill.
There is that ego. The impression is phonetic, not phonological. I went out of my way to explain this and you should feel free to look up any specific terms which are giving you troubles, as there are many great papers on these fields accessible via google. Interesting for those interested in how the translation process is generally approached.
>but I wonder what you (and others) think about translating onomatopoeia in songs
It depends on what the translator is trying to both preserve and to communicate. There are three different base models or means of approaching this, but songs are a nuanced area as the lyricism is highly dependant upon metre and rhythm, often making the phonetic value of the phraseology more important than the eschewed meaning.
Here is a good and rather extreme example of a famous writing which when translated ultimately removes the intent of the work:
I don't know and in instances of wordplay with such structural merit I wouldn't translate it unless those after the translation provided details of the type of translation there were after. Ultimately the majority of creative writing is highly dependant on the source language for the intended audience to appreciate it in, from which removing the context also removes the intent entirely and can often "miss the point" of the work itself. A lot of haiku/hokku are adapted into English with paraphrasing that reflects less of the original work and more of the language association of the translator.
Feel free to take the opportunity to learn something. It might make you feel less frustrated next time you come across a translation that irritates you. Trying to peg down those who know more than yourself elevate your own situation. Narcissism will only take you so far in life.
>The impression is phonetic,
He was presumably asking for a combined, overall, psychological impression.
>Feel free to take the opportunity to learn something.
Mostly we've learned that you're a cunt.
>post exhibiting both experience and knowledge of a subject
>better shitpost to make my own situation feel better
I never expected my joke to fuel such an intense translation debate. I think the people involved all just need to yuru a little.
>TL Note: Yuru is that chill, easygoing, lazy Sunday vibe. Yea, you know the mood!
With the way things are going, are you sure that's what you want? Maybe when it settles down and goes back to solely manga chapters or if an S4 happens and it manages to fulfill any and all expectations most viewers have so there's no reason to complain.
I think the point our autistic friend is trying to make that if you can't translate something while retaining every nuance you should just leave it untranslated entirely, apparently because he has some near-sacred reverence for the integrity of the original work.
>marathon every episode of season 3
>look for threads
>everyone hates it
Guess I'll have to settle for being a minority
With the third season airing, there hasn't been as much discussion about the manga chapters unless it's comparing the adaptation. Maybe more of that would be nice.
Hate is a strong word. It just hasn't shown itself to be of the same high level as the last two seasons. And most of us have reason to believe there won't be a dramatic change in the remaining episodes for this season.
I like this season so far. It's a little different obviously, but it's still fun and that's all that matters
plus I love the KyoukoxAyano stuff
>She's obsessive about Shinobu and Shinobu is oblivious and honestly in general sort of shitty to her, at least in the first season. They're much more lovey dovey in the second.
If I recall their relationship was always supposed to be sort of an allegory for marriage (all the three main pairings were supposed to be a different stage of a relationship), and like any marriage it had it's ups and downs, what matters is in the end they made up. Shinobu even had some moments throughout where she realized she was being a shitter by placing her obsession with blonde girls in general over the one who was already so devoted to her, and by the end of season 2 Shinobu was practically having withdrawals just not being near her. I practically cheered when Alice and Karen returned from London at the same time and Shinobu ran straight into Alice's arms and ignored Karen.
Here's the thing. I like Chinatsu. She is "dangerous," as you say, but I like that about her. Dangerous and cute is a rare combination is any given SoL show. I love her weird rapey antics and horrible drawings, but the obsession with Yui just kills me anymore. It sometimes has it's moments where it's makes for a fun joke, like the tea spill, but the very nature's of Yuru Yuri's time looping and Namori's "no progression" policy has drove it into the ground. It happens every episode. China obsesses over Yui, Yui makes a passing comment, they never talk about it and it goes nowhere. It brings both Yui and China down as characters. It's why people are so happy to see AkaChina scenes in general, and why it seems like even Namori is kind of slowly stepping away from that aspect of her character.
>He was presumably asking for a combined, overall, psychological impression.
That is why I stated to look up any unknown terms. A phonetic comprehension of a semantic value so a general psychological reaction would be a response to the reference to the source material and a response based on the acoustic appreciation of the lyrics. How people respond to that is entirely dependent on how the listener appreciates the source material and how they appreciate the sound itself. There isn't really a general answer to this as it depends on the person.
If it were trying to be a cunt I wouldn't be giving answers that people can use to learn something if they are unfamiliar with the concepts. Do you go to /g/ and get pissed off at people when they provide details answers to questions? I don't really understand how you could be offended by this.
This is a public fora which is both highly trafficked and archived. When you respond to something you are also responding to a general audience.
Why do you/anons keep ignoring the explicit reasons I have stated previously as to the rationale expressed?
>If you put it that way, I can agree. But his posts are too cringeworthy for me to take them seriously.
Would you rather I shitpost memes and talk about which girls I'd like to fuck? Jesus, 4chan is an 18+ board, how about you stop behaving like boy in the thralls of puberty trying to impress girls on the playground by acting like a fool? Just because many people would rather present themselves as idiotic doesn't mean we aren't able to discuss things like educated adults. Or is the peer pressure to act like a /b/tard too much for whatever insecurity people have that makes them so afraid of not conforming to the hivemind?
I'm enjoying it thoroughly as well. There is a lot of hostility regarding TYO/the third season in the actual threads, which didn't exist prior to the airing though. It feels different, sure, but I'm just happy we have a third season to begin with.
>There isn't really a general answer to this as it depends on the person.
Once again we're back to "there isn't a perfect answer so don't give any."
>If it were trying to be a cunt
I'm fairly sure it comes naturally to you.
>the explicit reasons I have stated previously
You've told us that you won't get an understanding in translation as well as you would in the original. Great. Nobody has disputed it and everyone agrees.
Going from there to "don't translate shit that can't be translated perfectly" is where you go full retard.
>There is a lot of hostility regarding TYO/the third season in the actual threads, which didn't exist prior to the airing though.
That's because IRC only started making "TYO is shit" a propaganda talking point once this season started.
What exactly is she playing that she needs to live alone to do?
>If I recall their relationship was always supposed to be sort of an allegory for marriage
I don't remember ever hearing that before. Either way, I think the first season is quite cruel to Alice and it hampers my enjoyment of it, though I'm aware I'm probably overreacting. There's an episode or two of her and Shinobu being retardedly cute, and then Karen shows up and steals the show and it's all jokes about how jealous Alice is and Shinobu doesn't notice because she's blinded by the light of the kinpatsu. It's a pretty common trope in a lot of anime though which is rarely followed up on. I think they consciously rectified it in the second season however with Alice and Karen's trip to London.
She moved to the city and met new friends. She mentally replaces their names and faces with those of her old friends. This explains the changes in the yurus' personalities in S3.
>This explains the changes in the yurus' personalities in S3.
>moved to the city
>standard middle class suburbs
The comedy may be down, but the iyashikei is way up. I'll admit I'm not laughing as much, but each episode makes me feel better after watching it. The first series never did that as much, and it was really only occasionally all that funny. I remember there being quite a lull in the second season before the sisters episode came around.
Is there any list of the soundtrack in the game? If it has enough weeb tunes that I like than I might consider buying, I didn't like playing Project Diva though, so I probably wouldn't enjoy that game either.
How does the camping OVA represent S3's execution? I went into the camping OVA expecting to hate it but it was decent. As a Sakurakofag, she definitely shone in it.
I didn't watch ep 5 until today. How did the thread respond to Chitose nosebleeding again? So many posts bitch about them in past seasons. I found it satisfying that the dreaded yuri delusion has better animation than anything else TYO has done yet, and no derpy flounder eyes for the angle of Kyouko's face like they normally do.
>It wasn't as funny, like we've seen with this season
Not what i wanted to hear.
I'm glad that Chitose had a reasonable amount of focus this week. Her nosebleed delusion and reaction was nice to have back and she was cute in all of her scenes. Is Chizuru going to have much, if any, screen time this season?
It sucks, but it's so firmly established as a trend with the new studio that we can determine that it's at least slightly intentional. I think there's been a huge lack of Akari and her absurd moments too, and not just the ones created whole cloth by Dogakabo. We have more than half the season to go though.
it's that moe life
that moeblob shit is what I crave.
I like to have it spoonfed up my anus.
Kaede appears in the OP and ED but only made a cameo in the content of the show so far. There's only 2 chapters she's in they can adapt, one of which includes Chizuru. I predicted the clothes shopping chapter would get adapted because Chitose was wearing the same dress in the OP so maybe it's a reliable source.
It does have a more iyashikei atmosphere altogether, especially with the absurdity/reactions toned down quite a bit. You still have scenes here and there where they try to emulate the previous seasons energy but overall, it's relaxing and cute. I preferred the energy and colors of the first two seasons but it hasn't diminished my enjoyment of this one. Despite that, I enjoyed the camping OVA quite a bit. It was nice to watch the Yurus have a fulfilling trip without being overshadowed by comedy.
Kyouko is always the seme and Ayano the uke because she knows her friend is a total beta underneath her competitiveness. That part of the joke is kind of gone now that Ayano is a moeblob.
Her screams are adorable. I want to hear more screams.
Things that can only be said on the internet
She's got sticky fingers, I bet she steals from store chains too.
Elaborate. Why did you mention this anime? well asume there is a man who dominates a lesbo and turns her normal?
And yes, homo aint normal, its mostly biochemical imbalance in the brain that can be changed. homo sheep have been turned straight by having hormone balanced inside their brain. So technicly humans can aswell.
Whatever this is, don't ever do it again.
Only a straight hetero man thats white or an otaku asian can make her happy.
Dominate and rape the lesbian, and she will be happy for it. Thats why some girls orgasm when they are raped, they like being dominated because that means a real man is leading and protecting her from physical harm.
I couldn't enjoy either show that much because I was expecting something good. I've watched a lot of anime that were just cute, and I was fine with those, but I had heard a lot of things about these and they both fell short of expectations. They weren't really entertaining without Karen or Cocoa fooling around. That's very similar to this third season. GochiUsa is very pretty, though.
Again, if they like it its ok. no physical harm is done since lubrication is done when she gets aroused from the rape and even orgasms from it. And you can have non consensual touching without harming a girl. There is no need to be rude to a girl like that. If she gets pregnant her instincts take and biochemical hormones take over and she wants to protect the baby.
Baka is apparently something Bakkin did. I don't think anyone would really have trouble understanding AHO.
In my memory it looked better because I remembered is as "I am a BAKA," but without the "a" they both look dumb.
Yoko is great, especially in S2. I still think there was a number of good comedic scenes for all the characters in the series sprinkled with some more relaxing ones. I enjoyed most of the cast's antics, though the ones with Shino felt a bit weak at times. In S2 anyways.
I'm not motivated to make a gif but here's another webm
I honestly don't see the problem with this season.
The difference in my opinion make sense.
The Akari~n joke had become stale. It's good it's gone.
Chinatsu is no longer as bitchy as she was, but that makes sense considering how much time she's spent with her friends.
Ayano isn't as tsun as she used to be, since her group has spent plenty of time with Kyouko's by now.
I'm enjoying this season a lot.
About the same as the Yuru Yuri vacation where it has jokes with a flat delivery but comfy feelings, as long as contemporary conformist yuppie rustic cawfee houses don't trigger you.
Tell me about Kyouko! Why does she wear the ribbon?
Nobody likes you, Chizuru.
Im so glad Chizuru isnt part of the main cast. I dont hate her, but her surliness and gag are some of the worst traits for a character in the show. She is probably meant to only accentuate Chitose's gentleness.
I share her hate for Kyouko so I don't find her gags and shit annoying. I like her personality. Her becoming a cool harem lead just makes her more appealing to me.
Now, don't bully. She's just shy.
because rape is allowed. corrective non consensual fucking to make the girl straight to uphold the moral of society is ok in some parts of the world. only bigots would be against such culture.
Looks like only 4 anons that have joined the poll have her in their top 8.
Believe you me, I want nothing more out of life.
>Liking the stupidest, objectively worst girl in the series
Now that's how you're supposed to eat pancakes. None of this whipped-cream only shit.
But they're not talking about Chinatsu, Anon-chan.
>not wanting brat
Its like you didnt even see the camping OVA
Which yuru would most enjoy being cummed inside?
What went wrong? Was Sakurako dropped on her head as a baby?
Sakurako actually has an IQ of 165, which is why she realized that as the middle child the only way she would ever be able to get attention is to act like a retard 24/7.
She is legitimately upset about the cowtits, though.
You should be careful about looking directly at her too much, Anon. That level of perfection can burn out your retinas.
can't we just love them all?
Yes, I am for this. All yurus are good.
