My 3 year old 20lb Boston terrier is sick. Won't eat, only puked up grass yesterday morning after I let him outside. Bloody diarrhea today and acting very lethargic. He has drank a little water. He even turns his head away from fresh chicken. I am worried. Does anyone know whats bothering him?
I noticed this on my ferret the other day. Washed it off with water and made sure the bleeding stopped. It seems to be healing normally. I noticed it after a long play session. I sent the picture to the owner of the nearby ferret shelter and she said it was probably from them playing together and it happens sometimes when they're rough. Should I start seperating them during play time? They seem to get along fine.
I know it's THE meme dog, but I'd really like a Shiba. But, I've heard they're not easy for inexperienced owners. I am not an experienced dog trainer, but I've lived with dogs for the past 10 years.
The positive thing is that my aunt is a trainer, and has offered to train for me, and my roommate is pretty well versed in training, even though he's never done it professionally. Will a dog totally disrespect me if someone else trains it with me around?
>>2166051 Shibas are cats in the body of a dog. If that's what you want, then that will be what you get. If that's what you don't want just get a different dog, there's really no reason to get a dog you know is going to be hard to train.
Spent an hour trying to revive the guy. The mother abandoned him due to him being a runt, and just wouldn't help him. Stopped moving so I grabbed him and starting trying to rub him and warm him up. It worked for a bit, but he finally gave out. It was really hard for me, cause I love runts, and usually adopt them, and just having to nurse him myself for an hour. Eh, just life I suppose
I was walking my dog and found this egg on the ground in the Bay Area, California. It couldn't have been on the ground more than an hour. Anyone know what kind of an egg it is? I'd assume different species have different temperatures they need, so I'm trying to find the right temp to incubate.
I'm finally now feeling that I should have an animal to keep me company here in this suburb that i'm now living in aside from my plants, but it would have to be something completely fine with being confined to a very small space. I've thought in the past of having some kind of grasshoppers or similar orthoptera as pets to keep and breed within this old fish tank I have, what do you guys think about this? They wouldn't be able to be outside of the room in which I sleep in, so I guess they'd be loud as everloving fuck while i'm trying to sleep? Are... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Hi /an/, please help me keep my pupper cool. I live in South Carolina where the temperatures are in the triple digits and our a/c has stopped working. Even at night, it is literally 90 fucking degrees in my apartment right now. I'm concerned about keeping my pup cool, because she keeps panting and her fur is very thick and long. I've put her in a wet t shirt, pic related, which helped some. And I'm making sure that she has plenty of water. What else can I do to keep my girl cool? There is nowhere with ac that we can go, and it will be a few days before maintenance can get to us.
Could anyone tell me how far my 4 month old jack russel puppy can run?
I recently started jogging with him for short distances, 1-3 km or walking/sprinting intervals
This weekend I took him out 'running' with my bike, going rather slowly though, and was gona stop when he started panting. However, he never began to show any signs of tiredness, never panting, resisting or anything else, and I ended up stopping after 20 km
Then I googled how far he should run and I saw that puppies shouldnt be running anything close to these distances, not because of tiredness but rather because its bad for their growth
However, I cant seem to find any estimates on what is a suitable distance for him to run
tl;dr I would like advice/estimates on how far a jack russel puppy can run for ages 4-20 months
A FOUR MONTH OLD PUPPY SHOULD NOT BE GOING FOR RUNS OR JOGS. A DOG'S GROWTH PLATES NEED TO BE CLOSED BEFORE THEY GO RUNNING OR YOU RISK CAUSING YOUR DOG PERMANENT DAMAGE. THE ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION IS ZERO MILES
Talk to your vet. 8 months of age is the general rule of thumb, but they will be able to tell you for sure. Seriously do NOT take a puppy that little for jogs.
>>2166171 Very light if you want to be careful. 15 to 20 minutes a day or so, twice a day? No real hard answer beyond be careful. Low/lower impact exercises won't be as harmful though. Just wait until the dog is done growing before serious and sternious exercise.
Once your vet says he is good, then build him up slowly. Lots of dogs will push themselves really hard to please you and can hurt themselves on a run. Take it easy and just build up.
My 8 week old puppy whines all the time. I've only had him for 4 days and if I am not right next to him in the pen, or hes sleeping, he whines. I can be right outside the pen and he will still do it.
I have tried to ignore it (He keeps it up for hours), rewarding him for being quiet, and my vet gave me a pheromone collar, but nothing has seemed to work.
I know that whining means 3 things, bored, food, or bathroom. However it can be after a very long walk, i let him run around the house and play with him, and he has food and water in his pen, and still, he... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

>>2165704 Pls no fanboyism. I always disregard answers which begin with praising the first animal and then calling the other weak/coward cause all it tells me is which animal you happen to like more. It happens in every animal "vs" debate and it's always bullshit.
Hey guys, I am having a hard time determining the breed of my new puppy. The humane society told me he was a husky shepherd mix, but he looks more lab than shepherd in my opinion. What do you guys think? Also, puppy thread
Alright, I cannot get rid of these fucks for the life of me. My parameters are good and I've tried two 4 day blackouts with hydrogen peroxide at 1.5x doses, to no avail. It hasn't killed any of my livestock so it's benign for the most part, but it's unpleasing to the eye.
>>2165232 they can be a bitch. Personally I just wait them out or get animals that eat them. Usually if you've got dyno there's a lack of pods. Some fresh rock or sand with a good batch of pods might help.
Other than that try to get 0 nitrates/phosphates. Carbon dosing and solid skimming discipline might help. They often go away on their own for no apparent reason.
>>2165232 a couple other suggestions in case you aren't doing them already- run a UV sterilizer at an effective kill dose
fluidized bed or canister filter. Yes, they're nitrate factories but they also consume nutrients and compete with other nastier critters. A biofilter and a turf scrubber are an effective combination for starving out dino and cyano.
Passive filter carbon until it clears up.
Water changes, make sure your RO/DI is still working right.
Why don't people keep rabbits in large (500+ sq feet) outdoor paddocks or pens? It seems like it'd be lower maintenance and make the rabbits a lot happier. It'd also be pretty easy to predator proof the fence. Is there something I'm overlooking here, or are people just lazy? I was going to try and build a large pen for meat rabbits, but I'm a little weary because that nobody else does it. Pic related, the only thing I could find resembling what I'm thinking of.
Rabbits dig, hump and fight. You would also need to have a roof over it due to animals that can climb or fly into the pen. The fence would need to be far into the ground because they are excellent diggers.
When I had meat rabbits(50 or so) they had the typical diy hutches without wire bottoms and we would rotate them in an out of a dog kennel so they had more space to run around. We would power wash the hutches and kennel so they weren't living in fitth or getting bumble foot from shitty wire bottoms. I think it was easier than small wire and wood hutches since that... >>2165220 That's a lot of fucking rabbits. What do you mean by broken? Most of them wouldn't live more than 4 months anyway, and I'm sure I could handle putting down a few injured bunnies a year. >>2165224 I already need to dig proof about 200 square feet of chicken fence, so I wouldn't mind doing a couple hundred more. I haven't had any problems with birds of prey in my area because they're too small to take anything, but raccoons/similar... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Can humans go into heat, or anything similar? When for a certain period of time, a couple of weeks literally everyone just seems like... seriously more attractive? Even when they know they normally would never go for those sorts of people? Like there's a strange current in the air and falling in love feels so very easy, you'd blink and you'd miss it. And the whole thing would be so subtle, it'd take years to even realize there is a pattern to all this?
