Can I add that we should ignore or report anything Bugguy says? Also, my mudskipper says hi to you all. Does anyone know where I can find a color other than Blues and Blacks for aquarium backgrounds? I'm kind of tire of seeing my wall behind my mudskipper tank.
You hear of all those animal rescue services, I wish there were more that took strays from high-cat areas and shipped them to areas with high vermin problems, instead of the government just poisoning the cats.
Can we agree that in general, animals are pretty dumb, much dumber than humans think them to be, and that we too often try to read some deeper meaning into something that is simple instinctive behaviour?

>>2214770 Animals are dumb. There's no one denying that. But you have to think of animal intelligence in the context of their brains being smaller and less developed than ours. Despite that, they can do very intelligent things and learn quickly for something with brains that size. Look at a Border Collie trained to follow commands and herd animals. It's extremely impressive, showing how smart they are. But at the end of the day, they're still dogs that lick assholes and sniff their poop.
>>2214779 >But at the end of the day, they're still dogs that lick assholes and sniff their poop. yeah but the reason we have an aversion to licking assholes is because we get sick if we do it. we don't sniff our poop because there's nothing really for us to learn from it. i wholeheartedly believe that if dogs had a canine intellect with logical and reasoning capacities similar to the average human, they would still be licking assholes and sniffing poop because those are behaviors... I love animals and biology in general. Always had really high grades on anything related to biology and also anything related to languages. I ended up on an I.T. graduation though.
Even though I like computers, I´m unhappy with my graduation and the professions I can have when I graduate. So I´m planning to change to biology.
Is it woth it? I think I´ll love all about it as I always did, but does it provide enough money to have a good life (I don´t want to be rich, just not want to have many worries)? Also, is it easy to get a master´s/Phd degree to work as a teacher?
A few weeks ago I posted about this hoping I could get some advice on this but nothing I've tried is working. I took in a dog my sisters ex-husband had since it was a puppy. She lived her whole life outside with two other female dogs who were not spayed. She's around 4 years old right now. Well we've had some problems with her, mostly shes aggressive with our other dog, she doesn't attack him but growls whenever she is near him or even smells him. We've been slowly work on that though but not much has changed. The other problem is she tries to mark... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
I have heard many people suggest to start keeping a journal of the exact time the dog has an accident, and begin to take the dog outside according to their schedule. I have never had too much of an issue housebreaking adult dogs, but I've read many people having a lot of success with this.
If she sleeps indoors, you could also begin to crate train her as well. Let her sleep in the crate and outdoors for potty literally first thing in the morning.
>>2214680 >>2214692 I take her outside constantly but even after i take her out and she pees, the first thing she does is try to pee inside Yeah we bought her some diapers but I'm not its going to solve anything. No we took her to out vet but they want to wait until after her next heat cycle to get her spayed.
Looking at Longisquama, I personally don't see how this creature could NOT be the common ancestor of birds and pterosaurs to the exclusion of dinosaurs. The skull is very similar to both Archaeopteryx and primitive pterosaurs like Sordes and has an antorbital fenestra, while the skulls of early dinosaurs like Herrerasaurus are already bulky, more similar to Postosuchus and other crocodylomorphs. That doesn't even account for the light build and feather-like structures similar to the earliest birds and pterosaurs. What do you think /an/?
I think you're just being a contrarian. Your skull argument isn't evidence for anything, considering there's about 60-70 million years between Herrerasaurus and the first birds, and convergent is a thing. Non avian dinosaurs also have antorbital fenestra, I'm not even sure why you brought that up. The structures don't resemble feathers, pycnofibres or wing membranes any more than Coelurosauravus or bat wings do, again it's merely convergent evolution, assuming they were even used for gliding. Disregarding all that, do you have any other... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>2214505 I think that when you look at it, it can't possibly be anything but quetzalcoatlus, the mesoamerican creator and culture hero, and that it represents the alien ancestor of the lizard people who have been ruling this socieity since the beginning!
>>2214806 Pterosaurs have hollow bones and feather-like pycnofibers. Primitive birds like Yi qi also have wing membranes. This may also imply that birds are the result of hybrid speciation between maniraptorans and pterosaurs. Given that archosaurs have a slow rate of chromosome and DNA evolution compared to mammals and squamates, it wouldn't surprise me if the teo could form a viable if not completely fertile hybrid.

I got a new reticulated python, but the little princess needs a name. She's a full super-dwarf retic, won't get much bigger than she is now (7' or so). She's a bit skittish, but fairly sweet considering she doesn't know me at all.
>>2214356 Praying mantis. Hermit crabs aren't really suited for captivity. They are (almost?) never bred because of their larval stage and usually don't live very long in captivity despite them being able to reach ages of 20 years.
Praying mantids however are frequently bred and the common species are piss-easy to keep.
I started out with 1 cat. Only one I swear. But I'm on good terms with my neighbor, and our fence is full of holes, so their young cats started walking in my backyard too playing with my kitten. Maybe I should've shooed them away instead of petting them once in a while and giving them some food. At first it was just two cats. Cute, right? Kittens. Then it was three cats. Four cats. I'm at five cats now. I don't even know where this fifth one came from! I thought they'd eventually leave and go back to the neighbor,... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Every single day this fatass meows loudly at nothing. It goes on for awhile and it's irritating and it drives me nuts. Normally, she doesn't make any noise when she meows, but for some reason she does when she's wailing like this and it's LOUD My stepmother suggested that she might be lonely or something, but there's only three hours a day when someone isn't awake to give her attention, and she does this many times throughout the day. What do I do about this? I'd very much like it to stop, especially since my crazy cat lady stepmother answers... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
I found just found kitten in my land 20 minutes ago. He's covered in flies. He is blind since his eyes are completely covered with dry mucus. He can no longer walk or move at all. He's still breathing and tries to meow but no sound comes out. He is no longer capable of drinking or eating.
Someone please tell me how can I quickly put him out of his misery. I cant stand to know he is suffering for god knows how long. Dont tell me to take him to a vet. I live in a small village and I have no car license.
Pic isnt him obviously. He's in far worse condition.
Just a half hour ago I went to see if one of my cats was outside at night here so I could let him in, and I found him just chilling with this huge raccoon by the front of my house.
My cat is an orange maine coon who is usually an ass to other cats and animals (as in, he prefers to be alone and away from them, or else he'll growl and maybe slap em' but nothing really serious). Yet, my cat didn't really do anything when this raccoon was here. He was just chilling and watching him, not even showing any aggression or anything. The raccoon wasn't even aggressive... I wasn't sure where to ask this-here or /adv/, but I figured since it's more about an animal, this is probably more appropriate.
I had a dream last night and I'm not sure how to interpret it.
In the dream I had a young owl. Not a baby, but still very young. It was brown with white edges on it's feathers and very beautiful, a very light brown, almost gold. I remember being almost infuriated with how pretty and cute it was and I kept going back to pet it. It was also very friendly and watched me wherever I went and didn't mind at all when... Dream symbolism stuff is pretty bogus. yeah dreams can be symbolic but you have to take it on a personal level. Dreams come from -your- brain, not some collective unconscious. And even if they did, things have different meaning across cultures. Everything means different stuff depending on who you ask.
Interpret your dreams personally. Enjoy your owl dreams and don't trust stuff that claims to know what your dreams mean. Only you can judge that, and you can only judge it for yourself.
Do you own a pond? Do you own a decent sized outside space to keep them?
They're wild animals. Unless you rear them from hatch, then they're highly unlikely to actually want human physical contact with you- and the the anon is correct, I highly doubt you'll ever toilet train a duck, so expect them to just poo everywhere.
Afraid it's not the best of ideas- but if you have a garden with some water outside, then they'd be a nice feature to look at and duck eggs are delicious.... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
I was hanging around with my buddies dog today, a large poodle, probably close to 60-70 pounds. Had some spareribs on my plate and the dog got to them- probably swallowed 1-2 of the small bones. Round bones, no sharp points, probably 1" in diameter, 2-3" circumference. These aren't the long ribs, but more like the ones on the meat pictured.
Walked the dog for a bit, didnt seem to be in any discomfort- gave it some water and it seems like it is doing fine.
Am i freaking out over nothing? I feel like I really did somethin bad here by letting the dog... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Monitor the dog for the next twenty four hours for vomiting, any loss of appetite, abdominal pain, dehydration or diarrhea (with or without blood). If any of those occur I'd strongly advise taking the dog to the vets as the bone might be stuck.
In the future, NEVER give dogs cooked or uncooked bones.
When I was younger my family had 2 dogs, i really like dogs in general, but I'm not sure if I can make a dog happy.
I work 7 hours a day (right exactly were i live, but i still can't be hanging out with a dog while working), then spend an hour or so in the gym and then other 3 hours working somewhere else, I also try to study atleast 1 hour a day.
I have a pretty big yard but I don't want to raise a dog and only play with it on weekends, what do you guys think?
No, don't get a dog. 7 aways away ok sure some dogs are ok with it, especially old ones. But on top of your other hours you spend fuck no. Dont bother. You would have to change your schedule a lot to not rely on a dog being there just for when you think it's convenient. If you can't change then don't put that on them. Exceptions are with if you dont live alone(and you are not forcing responsibility on someone else) and/or can afford doggy daycare shit.
Elk bugling is fucking horrifying. Up close fine but hearing that shit on a foggy almost silent sunrise in the distance is terrifying. The only solace I got was knowing it was a goddamn deer and some some fucked up silent hill manifestation. Between rabbits screaming, owls, coyotes, wolves, cougars in heat, etc these fuckers sound so haunting. I'd piss myself if lived somewhere and I heard that shit right outside my house.
It's so haunting especially to hear in the distance. It sounds so painful. 2spooky4me.
