I own a caique and i absolutely love the scent of burning candles But when i bought her i found out that i could not burn candles with her around. Unfortunately my family has given me a crapton of yankee candle stuff for xmas. How fatal are candles for my bird? When i look it up all i get is "very bad" Can i not light them anywhere in the house? Can i light them in one room and have her in another, ventilated room? Should i just get rid of the candles? Pic related. Is her
>>2023450 If i had a scented candle lit all day and had her in another room..would it hurt her if i brought her out into the room w/ the candle even after it was put out and put away? Do the scents in them irritate birds? I know some very strong scents irritate animals, just dont know what affects them and what doesn't
I don't know much about cat breeds, but my mommy has a really cute long-haired black and white cat. If I got a cat I'd like one like this. She says it's just a 'domesticated longhaired' but does anyone know the breed?
Why do people get so obsessed with birds? Like amateur bird watchers I mean. They'll drive 8 hours each way just at the chance to see a new bird, and sit out in the cold for hours until they do. What is the fascination, can someone explain it to me? I think birds are okay but I wouldn't wake up at 4am to go sit in the snow to look at a goose. I ask because a lot of the people where I work go apeshit for the hobby and I ask why they like birds and no one can really explain it. Yet there are some that get up at dawn every day to go do it.
I'm obsessed with birds but I've only gone out of my way once or twice to view some, such as snowy owls that decided to show up in a large group. It was like an hour drive for that, and another drive was to go watch some seals. My other bird watching adventures just goes along with hiking/taking walks, because I like to be outdoors. I also stop to watch deer, moose and bears(from a distance, of course).
I just like the outdoors and I guess bird watching is just similar to sitting by your fishtank. Its just nice to look at it.
Air plants are creepy but I like them. I live up north so we don't have anything like them. When visiting Florida I've seen them clinging to branches and abandoned objects where plants shouldn't be. It lends them an otherworldly, eldritch quality, and I picture them moving when nobody's looking.
I'm planning on getting a snake in a couple of years, maybe after my cats have aged (one is 4, one is approximately 3) so the snek doesn't have any risks with the cats, or the other way around. Anyway, I want to know, what kind of snake would you recommend to a reptile newbie? What kind of care would it require?
Snake will have to be kept away from the cats regardless of their age.
Colubrids are generally the easiest to start with; corns, kings, milks. Small boids; Kenyan sand boa, eosy boa. Ball pythons often get mentioned but, due to their eating habits, some new keepers get frustrated with them.
>>2023283 Those two animals don't mix well at all. They will need complete separation at all times. If the snake is too small the cat will try to kill it and if the snake is too big the snake will try to kill the cat.
tl;dr version: look into ball pythons and corn snakes and branch out from there
>Can snakes live off of grapes? If thats all there is to eat, and they might starve to death, can they eat grapes? Or would they starve to death? what if they were forced to eat only grapes? can it be dun?
>Why does my tortoise sink when I put him in the fish tank?
>Basically i want to know for sure if my cats as died he just lies there and when ever i touch him he doesn t move, hes been like this for two days now, should i take him to the vets to see if they can awake him

We had to put our family dog we had for 10 years to sleep a few days ago and it doesn't feel that different. I'm such an asshole. Has this happened to anyone else?
A few days ago we put my 15 year old beagle to sleep after he entered organ failure. I was sad the day of, and actually cried (well, more like teared up that night after I saw his collar with his nametag on it
But nothing really feels that different now that it's a few days after his death. Given that he was a beagle he was already pretty low energy, and the past year or two with his age,... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
See, even looking at this picture as I posted this makes me feel sad and about to cry again, but it's like unless I see a direct reminder of him, I haven't even thought about it, and this is only 2 days after hes gone. In a month I'll probably forget that he even existed...
>>2023189 >for the past few years he has also regularly used the bathroom in the house, seemingly out of boredom, so a lot of times I would come home to a piss and shit-stench filled house
you're relieved that he's gone because you don't come home to that anymore ie. a burden has been lifted. you love him and miss him, but you're more happy that you can live your life without worrying about the shit to come home to.
