well the ones that are invisible with the collar are NOT a good idea because if the dog runs through (in the moment of panic after they're shocked they just might run further) they actually can't get back in without getting shocked again, and it can create collar sensitivity and problematic behavior as a result
as for physical fences, idk. seems like just building a regular wooden one would be more effective
>>2016090 physical fence isn't an option unfortunately i dunno my friend has two pretty big dogs and it seems to work fine for them. but he paid 2500 for his and had a trainer come out to give two free lessons.
Hey /an/ I've got a question for you regarding wood/bamboo shrimps.
I've got a 90L/20 gallon tropical freshwater tank, and have had it set up for roughly 3-4 weeks (upgrade from much smaller tank). In the small tank I had guppies, flame tetra and danios. A week ago I put in some pearl gourami and the two wood shrimp in the new tank.
Just now one of the shrimps leapt to the surface, floated down and is now stiff, and have no idea why. The other shrimp is fine and both shed a few days after buying them.
I've heard of wood shrimp playing dead... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
gonna need more information though. Have you been using copper based medications? Is the filter media established? Have you been feeding the actual shrimp something they can filter out of the water column in large enough quantities?
I adopted a 3 year old boxer shepherd from some people nearby. He is good in the house and very obedient to vocal commands. The only thing is he pulls relentlessly on the lead and barks at other dogs we come across.
He is gentle with our cat so i don't know that he's aggressive by nature but maybe it's just that he's nervous around other dogs on the walk? the owners said he had been attacked before by a small dog.
How can I fix this? I watched dog whisperer once and he said to walk him close by your leg on a very short lead and try to correct... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>2015965 It may not be dog aggression. A dog can pull on a leash to get to another dog, and bark out of frustration; frustration from the other dog being present (which would be aggression), or frustration from you not letting him meet/sniff/play with the other dog. Of course that doesn't mean you should let him. Next time on a walk, pay close attention to your dog. Is he stiff, wiggly, tail high, low, wagging fast, slow, are his hackles raised, and if so how much, is there snarling or teeth showing, and if there are teeth... Comment too long. I don't think Shutzhund (is that what you mean by police dogs?) is a good idea for a potentially aggressive dog that's untrained. Agility and obedience would be great though, as Boxers are easily trainable and I think it would provide a lot of physical and mental stimulation. I think you would both benefit a ton from dog training classes, but it would have to be one on one because of your dog's potential dog aggression.
I would be wary of letting anyone walk a dog if they were not capable of really controlling the animal, even if it were well trained. You... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
I cut them about every 2 weeks but I have to avoid the thick ones like this until he sheds them or cut only the very top off of them so it doesn't become ingrown. I just wanna know how to make him shed the nail sheaths, he already has and uses many scratching surfaces but they still won't shed
My dogs found a little kitten on the porch and cornered it. It was screaming like a maniac...Got to it b4they killed it. Damn thing bit the ever loving crap out of me. Holy crap it hurt ...managed to control it enough to get it away from the dogs and It's calmed down now. It was just instinct to Try to help it. I wasn't expecting it to bite the crap out of me and go insane. My fault for not even thinking about that.
Do I need to be concerned about these bites? I washed my hands up and did some ointment and bandaids. I got bit 5 times. 3 drew blood. Their... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
It's a little one... Maybe 5 weeks or less old. Small... Another reason why I wasn't expecting such an aggressive reaction. I just wasn't thinking about anything except getting it away from my dogs. I think it's lost or something. Idk, it looks healthy. Clear eyes and well nourished.
>>2015912 Ok thanks so much. I'll keep an eye on it for sure.
>>2015909 Pretty sure it doesn't have rabies. It was just scared shitless and I didn't... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Does anyone have experience raising button quail? I have been thinking about buying some eggs online and hatching just a few, but I've never done that before. How hard is it? Are there any recommended websites to buy their eggs?
A while ago, I tried to adopt a Yorkie mix from the shelter. I've been to the shelter myself and the Yorkie has a really friendly personality.
I hence submitted an electronic adoption application form online once I got back home as required. However, the shelter did not reply for longer than a week.
I hence decided to phone the shelter. They told me that my application form was rejected as walking a dog for an hour is insufficient.I said that it was only a small dog yet they said that since I live in an apartment, I need to walk the dog every few hours for... it was probably the using pee pads that did you in. they're a sign of a lazy owner and should only be used in absolutely needed temporary situations or if the dog is so old/sick they cannot get out to piss
and keep in mind the number of "hurr hypoallergenic they have HAIR" dogs they see with people who don't properly groom them and they ended matted and disgusting. getting a dog like that and admittedly not having money to groom them is irresponsible and a red flag
our shelter doesn't have a blanket no adoption to apartments rule, but it... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
All of the crate training tutorials say to gradually introduce your puppy to the crate over a period of days or weeks. And only leave him inside for a minute or two at a time
But then they also say don't let him out if he whines. But what if he never stops whining? And where is he supposed to sleep in the days or weeks you are introducing him to the crate? We put him in there at night and he gets in relatively voluntarily and we wake up every couple hours to let him piss but he will cry like a motherfucker still
Also he's not really interested in toys... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>But what if he never stops whining? he will eventually. if it's time to let him out then wait for a roughly 10 sec pause in whining
>And where is he supposed to sleep in the days or weeks you are introducing him to the crate? in the crate, but if you've introduced it to him well enough beforehand it should be too horrible. and the crate should be in the room with you

Your dog is fucked, he was removed from his mother before he was ready and will never recover. You'll be dealing with behavioral issues and dog neurosis for the rest of his life. Give the dog up to a shelter and hope that someone extremely experienced is able to take him in and undo the damage.
In the future don't just buy the first dog from the first motherfucker you see on craigslist or whatever, do some research. There's no excuse for buying from... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Hey guys i just got stung by a scorpion in the finger. I just came back from Costa Rica and it happened when I cleaned my shoe. After the sting I saw the little shit sitting inside the shoe. Now it hurts like fuck and I don't know what to do. Hospital or no?
I've wanted one for the past 4 years. If someone asks me my short term life goals, this fucking rabbit breed is it. I live in SF and landlords are complete assholes, and I want to make sure it has enough space to hop around... I'm curious about your rabbits and I'd like some insight on rabbit care and shiet. Yeah... Fucking rabbits. I love them.
I just got back from a bike walking with my dog. She's a pitbull like dog, but she's pretty much a mix of husky, german shepard and somekind of bull terrier. She's extremely sweet, but she gets a little to excited when she sees another dog. Some people see that and think she is going to hurt the dog for some fucking reason, but if they're caught by surprise they don't get scared because she's automaticaly licking and playing with the other dog. Now, as i said i just got back from a bike walking with her, and she got explosive when... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>2015724 Your dog was "off leash" because her leash wasn't in your hand, so you can't really do anything about it. Just try to avoid the asshole, and keep her leash tied to your bike so she can't get away so easily.
I have found an orphaned kitten, and am hoping for some advice. My wife and I have a couple cats already, but never had one this young before. The little guy somehow got over to where I work at the McCarran Airport in Las Vegas, into our warehouse. How he managed to survive the airfield, all the massive construction, the shopping centers and busy main drags that run by us is unbelievable, let along slip into our facility.
Anyway, long story short... we're not sure how old he is. We've cleaned him up, gave him some wet food (pate for easy eating), fresh water, a couple tablespoons of whole milk in a dish if he wanted, warm beds, litter, the works... but he is skin and bones... and we think he still needs to be bottle fed, as he looks super young. We're going to take him into the vet, but we can't get in until Monday.
I've gotten a bunch of info online for us to try to get him bottle fed with the right stuff, and there are a ton of tips, some contradicting each other. So I wanted to see if anyone had a bit of advice for us in the mean time that we could take to the bank?
NO MILK. Cow milk is bad for cats. Also it doesn't need to bottle fed, it's a kitten but still older than you think. It's probably skin and bones just because it's been trapped in there and got separated from its mother/something happened to the mother.
