YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD TO SKATE NOW GO OUT AND SHRED
YOU ARE NEVER TOO FAT TO SKATE NOW GO OUT AND SHRED
Yes & no
Penny boards are for cruising
I've seen people over 13 use them
however I think they're all fags
You should go with an actual board not only because it makes you look less autistic but it's much more rewarding learning how to Ollie curbs and stuff while on the move
But; I should also mention that not all penny board users are fags. There's a bunch of skaters that use them when they're not really going to skate almost as an accessory. Also they're small & light so it's easier to carry around, also I'm not to sure on how many tricks are possible on the thing but I've seen a friend tre flip his penny board
That feel when heel bruises, rolled ankles, and sore knees but don't want to stop skating
Is it safe to assume that this thread is like a ghost town during most of the day/afternoon
I would imagine everyone's skating or someshit, I just pop in here once in a while and it moves so slow
So I'm thinking about longboarding because it looks like a fun way to just cruise around.
A: Am I even allowed to ask about this stuff here?
B: What should I do in terms of board length? Does my own height matter here? Should I say "fuck it" and buy a 50" board for shits and giggles going up and down campus?
Hey, I want to pick up boarding as a hobby just because it seems fun, cool and I need a good way for transport since buses have a really long cooldown in my town.
What type of board is the best choice for me?
I won't really learn any tricks, since I suck at it.
don't do it. also wrong thread.
just finished a park sesh with some dudes and had a blast. someone added a little wooden ramp that had a lip on the bottom lol
sidenote: does anyone have skate vids on their computers they'd like to share? i need to add to my collection. i would share Cherry but i lost the file and want it again!
Don't do it as in don't longboard or don't go full retard with a 50" board? Also, should I start a longboard thread or is there one somewhere that I can't find due to failure of my phone's ability to browse the catalog?
don't longboard! seriously, you'll sink so much money into it and there's no practical application. it's not as stress-relieving IMO as skateboarding and seriously unimpressive. don't get sucked into longboarding. if you want to cruise around, get a zipzinger skateboard with soft skate wheels. longboard feel with a fully functional deck.
Is it really that much more expensive? All the longboarders I've met tell me that their stuff cost them in the $100-$150 range, and they seemed happy. Aside from tricks and size constraints, what's the difference between the two?
How long does it take to learn to Ollie if you just started skating? Been skating for like 3 days, for an hour or two each day. Mostly learning just basic cruising and tic tacing but I spend a little time each day trying to pop my board. Also, is there any difference between "skate shoes" and just plain flat bottomed sneakers?
there arent any time tables here, it completely depends on what youre doing.
actual skate shoes have specific padding and stitching. though at this point most of them are thin slippers...
you can skate a normal shoe and youll be fine.
/esg/ I just had an epiphany on what the ideal professional skateboarder should be like, if anyone like this ever existed he would probably be everyone's role model
>should hardly ever take skateboarding seriously(duh) but if he does from time to time it's ok, because skateboarding would be how he keeps himself fed
>stays away from the commercial nonsense the industry tries to shove down our throats
>has an enormous bag of tricks to appeal to anyone
>his bag of tricks would probably include anything from bigspin backtails to flip out on wallrides
>would also include tranny ripping, going big, skating kink rails, weird dorky tricks, switch tricks, whack no comply variations, robot tier tech, handrail destruction
>basically he should have every 'kind' of skating in his bag of tricks to appeal to everyone, he should be a true all rounder
>should also be extremely talented at every 'kind' of skating he can do
>won't leave his shoe sponsor for nike like everyone else is doing these days
>should also smile, it's weird when pros never smile
>footage of him should make you want to go out and skate, and not feel pressured even if he is pretty good
>at the same time his footage should be able to show why he deserves to skate professionally, and would not be mediocre in any way
>also capable of stacking footage hard, because everyone appreciates a 7 min part every now and then
>there would be no better option
>tfw I just described Cory Kennedy
>Why is there even an argument?
Because I'm a 30 year old man who gets very insecure with my skating whenever I see younger kids skate so much better than me so I turn to companies like welcome and bronze who set a more achievable standard in skateboarding, and then immediately regard anything else as 'kooky'
>truck is down the whole damn time
>calling it a wollly mammoth
he's always delivered and even in pretty sweet where most older pros did cameo parts with a couple tricks he still made a full part
would have a beer n a giggle with/10
Hey guys, I wanna add boarding into my hobbies, but can't decide what type of board should I get (longboard, skateboard, pennyboard) ?
I want to use it mainly for transport because my bus has a really long cooldown in between stations.
If you really want a penny-esque mini-cruiser buy dis: http://www.funboxdist.com/store/completes/
Though be warned, anything resembling the size of a penny will have every fucker and their grandma calling it a penny, no matter the actual brand. If you think this will irk you just go for a 24 to 28 inch cruiser from any of the other major skate brands.
If you skate for transportation alone just learn 2 things for me anon
>ollies (up and down curbs)
learning that's like 2 weeks of the time you shitpost on 4chan. Learn those and you might start want to learn more tricks, and even if you won't you wont look like a faggot who has to pickup his board to get up/down anything ankle height, but rather a faggot who with respectable level of command over his board and the street.
The beauty of it is these tricks can be learned on almost any board with a tail
I recommend any wooden board 29+ inches long and 7.5+ inches wide
Lets settle this once and for all.
So since i see a lot of talking about penny boards, can one do tricks with them? I have a longboard and its impossible to even ollie with it, I Suck i know, so now I want something to be able to learn some tricks with but still mainly have it for cruising because I enjoy it a lot.
You can do scoop tricks with them, those are difficult and take a lot of commitment and on a penny board it isn't as stylish
Better buy a regular board so you can cruise the streets like this graceful specimen
As a beginner who once owned a Penny:
Just don't buy it. It should be seen as a fashion accessory and nothing else. Yes it's POSSIBLE to do tricks on it, but it's also possible to commute with a unicycle.
I 'll take that bait and I 'll say I 'm not even comparing Bronze with Welcome: different things. Welcome team skills? Welcome can easily match up with almost anyone in the industry, believe. But it's not that anyone even cares.
Their whole point is in your last phrase: "copying". They make skating look so fun and original and noteworthy that you want to go out and try that shit, like Lance Mountain in TBBVS! That's the whole fucking point!
I'm out here. I'm attempting shitty shuv its on the patio, but I'm out here.
go for it, put some pain in them. Always look at the board.
>tfw I finally landed underflips at will
>tfw I landed a nosehook impossible breaking the barrier of fear.
>tfw I finally unlocked the secret that leads to the chamber of flip tricks
and you muhfuckas thought that freestyle is for 30 year olds and kooks and that taking 2 years to land a flip trick is too long, well guess what, NOW I HAVE UNLOCKED ALL FLIP TRICKS.
Hard work always pays in skateboarding.
>There are people on /esg/ who don't wear Busenitz pros
Just picked up a pair of these, not only are they the most effay skateshoe, they are also comfy as fuck. What's your excuse?
>spend an hour trying to film a line
>friends phone runs out of memory right as I nail the last 2 tricks
It wasn't anything cool but it sucks working so hard for something for nothing
freestyle in general is lightyears hard as it is appealing
I can do streetstyle fastplants/footplants to caveman, but I can't just pop one whenever I want to, takes some good timing and popping your board correctly
the trick in the OP webm, and I 'm talking without the varial.
That was awesome, thanks for sharing anon. I loved that grind on the anti-grind rail at 1:10. Here's another short promo I enjoy from the skater I posted earlier
You guys watch battle at the berrics?
PJ Ladd v Ishod Wair just got uploaded
>switch lazer flip
Anyway to bet on this?
Shit taste pleb detected. I bet you own a penny board or a long board too, faggot.
It's not the same though. Kind of scary though, I already wear busenitz. Only a matter of time before Im wearing tie dye tank tops, wearing my hat backwards, and slapping girls asses as I cruise by on my skateboard cut in half vertically and glued together to resemble a long board.
>not fucking a qt3.14 like lord Nyjah
seriously how do you even live with yourselves
This is all true if you by longboarding you mean cruising. Serious longboarding is the racing scene. Being able to take a hairpin at up to 70-100kph and nailing the tighest line whilst being less than a foot away from another rider.
Cruising though is shit and it makes the sport I love look like its for pussys. Seriously the sport doesn't come into itself till your idea of a cruise is 40kph.
Guess I can't say Penny boards look shit either by that solid logic of yours.
but you said
>>implying Adidas isn't penny tier garbage
when it isn't, and now your posting pics of christian hosoi
>implying Adidas isn't penny tier garbage
was shit posting on the same level as the accusation of owning a penny or longboard because I don't like the appearance of Adidas.
>when it isn't
I agree its not, because Adidas are functional.
>and now your posting pics of christian hosoi
In response to a list of skaters who associate with Adidas, as if that inherently means I should be cool with the brand.
>Getting this butt blasted because you're being BTFO by multiple people
It's okay that you have shit taste and think those shoes aren't GOATs anon, just don't talk about them though.
CHOO CHOO, HERE COMES THE SPORT I LOVE!
Do you think you could take Hook?
well, not years consecutively but have already just automatically have done it when I first started and now as I'm getting back on it I am just watching skate tutorials and stuff since i was never any good to begin with
I think FS tricks have this thing about them because of the way you're turning its easier to get the direction and proper pop
I can do FS shuvs & FS 180°s in all stances honestly my Nollie FS 180° has some insane pop to it...puts my regular 180°s to shame
>but nothing any skatepark hero cannot do
this is where you 're wrong bro. Welcome guys are fucking killing it. Seriously, they are the best out there today skating a bowl. Popping out inverts at will and getting "bio" (kek, 80's term for "robot style", comes from bionic) airs. They can eeeezzzzzz lee be compared with Raybourn and any bowlrider in big name companies.
Most of the Welcome dudes sure kill it, but sorry I'm not really seeing it with mango, that doesn't make him any less watchable though
but feel free to post a part or whatever to change my mind I'm pretty open
well I don't know, I guess you 've seen the usual stuff, Mango in particular is street oriented but you can't tell me he hasn't got a good ollie, flip ability etc, and you yourself admitted he has good flow to tie it all together.
Exactly, he' pretty good but what make him particularly special from others is his way of making you immediately look for your board to go skate the minute you finish one of his parts, but in terms of skill I don't think he's too far away from the unknowns who get featured on metro's 'instablast'
then maybe it's what you said that sets him apart: although it's not a recipe, in the age of information and government and private companies picking our brains to find out how to sell better, trick selection always played a big part in a skater's style. Go back to the fundamentals my man: it's not what you do, but when and where you do it.
>but in terms of skill I don't think he's too far away from the unknowns who get featured on metro's 'instablast'
I agree, but I think its good to think such dudes have hope to reach similar status to Mango.
>Hey guys I have a slammed skateboard for sale it's a good deck forget the name on Tensor Magnesium ultra light trucks and bones wheels and bones red bearings. Board is slammed, 3 inches below normal ride height. Impress all your friends with your low standards lifestyle. Board does ride. This is a SHOW BOARD no low ballers. You've never seen a board this dope. Asking $250 obo
like advs better
also I buy most of my skateshoes from sales cause they get fucked up so fast, so I get whatever I can
and if I buy new ones, I'd rather buy Emericas cause thy're the best
>land fs boardslide sketchy as fuck
>big toe kinda hurts
>oh well, test out what I can do and what hurts too much to do and continue skating
>few hours later at home the toes is completely black, swollen as fuck and it hurts to walk
>learn new tricks
>"sick lets see how it looks"
>record self with camera phone
>I realize I have such a shitty style
>realize there's no point in skating
Today was my final day
I started skating again at 25. I skated from 12-19 but wasnt very good. The best I could do was varial flip and go off 3 stairs and big ledges. It was mostly street skating. I feel like I got a meme skateboard.
>black magic griptape
When I went to buy it I was looking for brands that I was used to from around 2005. I couldn't get a shortys, deca, world industries, black panther bearings.
What happened to those brands?
I want to Start skateboarding , there is not many variety to buy where im from in terms of brands etc .can i just go And buy an element full skateboard or maybe its a bad idea? I dont want to be pro just want to skate, learn some tricks And chill
shortys stopped making boards, then started again, few small batches though, no pro board team or anything
deca died, Almost skateboards came after that
world turned into some little kid walmart brand
shortys still makes bearings though. big boards are in now, so your 7.5 isn't hip btw
any legit non-walmart/non-china setup is good for beginners
