>inb4 hurr stop being a little pussy faggot
This isn't really a thread about being scared of the water, more about the fucked up shit that could dwell beneath.
Could someone please just dump? These threads are great for discussion if there are a lot of people.
Wouuldn't animals / organisms that live THAT deep in the ocean die when they try to reach the surface?
For once there is a huge difference in pressure and they probably never had sunlight on their skin, if they even have skin that could hold off sunlight (some of those deep sea creatures are just transparent).
Since /v/ is fucking shit, this is my best chance hope: What video games involve a deep abyss? Loved endless ocean and exploring shit in GTA:V. The only other I know of is Aquanauts holiday and that's a ridiculously rare asian import.
I have more monster type shit but not water related
Just back from my vacation in the carribean:
> went snorkling
> suddenly notice that water ahead of me (like 20 meters out) turns dark blue
> decide to swim over there and look down to see just how deep it is
> look down underwater
> there is this giant ledge
> can't see ground anymore, just endless depth
> from one moment to the other water became 100meter+ deeper
> start to feel uncomfortable
> swear to god I saw huge fish swimming down there in the depths, most likely a shark of some sorts
> nope the fuck out of there
Man i hate deep waters, the feeling of just floating there while unable to see what horrors swim beneath you terrifies me
Fucking cunt lips
also it's called Thalassophobia
Will dump what I have in hopes of getting an answer.
lol yeah i saw one of those underwater cliffs when swimming as well
panicked so hard that i was going to just fall over and slowly sink down that i shat myself in the water, god damn
Come on, someone must know something: >>563481093
In his house at R'lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming.
Not that I know of but now I desperately want someone to make one
It's like GTA, but you play as a shark.
The ocean (free roam or in mission) is deep, but in one particular mission you actually enter a really deep abyss.
It's a good game, if nothing else it's a nice timewaster. Pretty gory too, in all of it's somewhat dated graphics
The nightmare corpse-city of R'lyeh…was built in measureless eons behind history by the vast, loathsome shapes that seeped down from the dark stars. There lay great Cthulhu and his hordes, hidden in green slimy vaults.
This thread has given me a fear of water.
No related pictures on this computer.
I had a dream where i was on a beach..
>Float on my back into the ocean
>Sink 10 feet below
>See trench, cant move
>Fall down endless black hole trench with demonic creatures and disgusting organisms inside
i hope i'm not the only one.
In Pokemon u can train your Pokemon with an HM to learn dive. Then u can explore the bottom of the ocean to catch all kinds of cool Pokemon.
OP here. Do you guys have any stories to do with this topic?
>decide to go on boat trip
>bring 3 best friends, and a bunch of other minor friends
>bring scuba gear
(I have a scuba license, so I can bring friends diving)
>we all go diving
>low visibility underwater
>catch up with less scared friends
>they point down, massive drop
>they jump into the darkness
>tag along to not be a wimp
>i keep getting paranoid
>eventually decide i am a pussy and go back up
>friends nowhere in sight
You know what would actually be fucking cool?
A game dedicated to something like that. Just exploring the ocean, no story or stupid dialogue just endless exploring sometimes beautiful or sometimes scary ocean depths.
Old mate Jörmungandr
Okay now I'm out of water-monster images. Have plenty more non water ones though if anyones interested
something like this??¨
Basicly we are all afraid of the unknown and when we experience a certain limitation in our senses we are unnable to determine what comes next and there we go fear. I think it's a sane thing to be afraid of the depths.
>it gets dark earlier than expected because of shit weather
>seriously fucking dark underwater
>i find two of my friends, who are about as eager as me to get back to the surface
>one of them chickens out, me and second friend continue to find third friend
>search for five minutes
>find friend - bleeding from the arm
>we bring him back up
>he is pretty drunk but he knows for a fact something was fucking down there
>we get back on boat
>fucking rush back home on the boat, everybody asks wtf happened
>he says it was a shark, but the scratch doesn't look like teeth
>stick to pubs for the next birthdays
There is my story, take it or leave it. This is why I hate swimming in open water.
I'll just post my favourite ones as I look for more deep sea stuff
What if I told you, you're second "dream" want a dream
I can't imagine the pain - tell her I'm sorry. There's absolutely nothing you can do if you don't have the time and once you get caught you're not getting out. They really scare me.
Its scary because its so huge and deep and once you are off shore a way, left to your own devices, you will die. Realistically tho, aside from sharks and various poisonous creatures its safe as long as you dont sink. Mythical underwater creatures are a neat idea, but really, you wont see them aside from a blue MTG card.
I have a fear of underwater objects, mostly man made
I will never swim near a sunken boat, pier, part of the boat thats underwater, submarine, or just simply driftwood. Kelp terrifies me too. If you're like me the word for it is called Submechanophobia
"Not dead which eternal lie, in stranger eons even death may die."
Am I the only one who wishes the world of Lovecraft's stories was real?
this is a pretty large nope right here
my fuckin sides
this made my night anon, I can finally go to sleep
This one bothers me a lot.
NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE...
One of my biggest fears. I love to swim, and I am not afraid of the water, but holy fuck does shit freak me out, thinking about what could be down there where you can't see.
Imho water monsters are more terror invoking because there's every possibility they actually exist and the simple reason no one has ever seen one is because anyone who did is dead. Things just can't get that big on land due to weight issues. In the water however......just fuck......
thansk for the read anon, did you ever go back to that place after what happend?
I dont know, when i first watched it i thought it was a dummy someone had towed behind a boat but if you look closely you can see the "fins" slowly sway as if it actually is swimming. The video is so short that it barely does one flap though, Im sceptic to say the least.
Sorry, never really been a talented writer, but I tried my best to put my story across. We were way too fucking scared to go back there. We actually considered it a couple of times, but we didn't think it would be necessary. I can send you the location, if you want.
Scuba diver here, ironically i am terrified of open water, look down, blackness and blue on all sides. Too far to swim back. I'm scared of the sea but that's why i love it, the thrill the drive. I believe i have seen some huge living life forms deep in the sea. And i believe in deep sea beasts, not monsters just massive huge living things. And i don't expect anyone to believe me but if you want i have some greentexts.
yes feels fuckign good, plus i can work in any country where theres oil rigs, but yeah had 2 people die while at work under my 6 years of doing it, but some freaky shit has happened
I mean I don't think it's a bad occupation, is it usually the persons fault that they die, or? What happens?
Do they get the skivvies, or do they get hypoxia or something?
>mfw Cthulhu visited you in your dream
>yfw you realize you face the same fate as Erich Zann
>be off coast in norway
>my second job
>be in helicopter, snowy as fuck
>land at oil rig, eat dinner, shit and smoke a cigg
> about 1 hour later go down
>get on the small boat
>put on gear etc
>the work was schedule to take about 3 hours
>and we have to go up in periods etc
>we are 3 guys
>when we are done 2 off us comes up
>start to get bad feelings
>we go down after the third guy
>his gear malfunction and punctured his Co2 tank, dead
not the scariest shit but still got pretyy shock up :/
well as in all line of works, there is the human factor but its pretty good controled but in some other countrys like for example in russia, not so good security standards and often pretty old equipment but the 2 ppl that die while i was at work 1 died of equipment malfunction the other one died by getting panic when a fucking whale swam past, he panicked and got stuck in the security line and strangled himself :/
well what happened was a damn huge whale swam past us, like literally 4-6 meters from the rig, the second scariest thing was when some shit happend on the rig i was under water and some equipment fell down in the water maybe 15 meters from me doesnt sound so bad, but just imagine the feeling
nope me and the other guy was flewn in there by heli, he had been working there for 5-6 days, i think his name was björn or bjarne something like that, just chatted a little with him during cigg break and he was complaining about his equipment, but you know they always wanna save money, motherfuckers
>abandoned oil rig in middle of buttfuck nowhere near place called Kamchatka
>drysuits, sweater's, thermals base layers, hood, shoes, the full deal. Water is at 4*C
>3 of us
>rig is half submerged, leg collapsed and part of it is deep underwater
>30m can see a bit. Barely
>50 torches, better. No fish, strange
>100 visibility is scarce even with torches, nothing as far as the eye can see
>170 finnally reach sea floor
>the usual, sand, rocks, weird ass creepy plants/small creautures
>one of bros starts panicking, something cut/ripped his drysuit
>we notice a drop, into nothingness
>shine torches, about 3m down the drop is some scaly surface
>one of friends decides to go check it, descends down to it
>stands on it, touches it
>hear a really low loud grumble, a moan, like a whales call almost but deeper, more large, echoing.
>the scales start moving slowly
>bro gets off it,
>something massive is retreating into the distance
>flat tail, scaly
>its not moving very fast but its definatly retreating into the abyss
>look at bros
>we know what we saw
>tfw nobody believed us, called us crazy. And we've seen things multiple times. We still go diving together
>mfw that fish/thing was the size of a football pitch
>mfw i have to see a shrink once a week
can confirm this have worked in russia many times never seen anything but have heard very strange noicess , and i know how whales sound,
>working in the Canadian arctic right now for masters
>on one of the islands north west of baffin island
>working on bay catching cod, sculpin, seals, greenland sharks
>working in 2 man inflatable zodiacs and run down aluminum boats the Innuits lend us
>water inside bay goes deeper than 90 ft.
>wear tons of layers and mustang survival suits
>co workers says "they just make you float, but won't protect you from the water" so they'll find your dead body
>mfw if boat gets punctured or capsizes I die, even though I'm within swimming distance of the shore
Fuck you. Seriously, fuck you. Eat shit and die. My dreams have been really fucked up lately, and I think you should go kill yourself because I hate you and you should die. Fucking poopyhead gosh-darned pisspotty
Keep in mind we explored more of MARS then our very own ocean.
What do you guys think about the Bermuda Triangle? There have been many theories, including giant sea creatures, but what do you guys think?
Definitely not sea monsters. Sea monsters won't jump out the damn water into 10,000 feet up in the air and get planes. It might be something with electronic interference. Perhaps military testing? Who knows.
That game still fucking bothered me. Even at the chill parts I was always waiting for shit like this to happen. Probably the most uncomfortable game I have ever played. Not scary, just off-putting.
no, it went extinct because the ocean's biomass could no longer support such a large carnivore, eg: they all starved to death because whales got smaller. Also changing ocean temps probably had something to do with it.
You think you're smart don't you faggot? do you have any idea how fucking retarded you sound? You ARE pseudoscience. The niggers would simply eat more whales you fucking inbred fucking fuck
No large monsters have big bodies to survive pressure and pressure is just the weight of all the air (+water if your deep below) on top of you so if cthulu could live at the very bottom of the ocean then he could be at the very top of it too
>You think you're smart don't you faggot?
They exhausted their resources, whales became smaller and therefore harder to catch, so the energy spent on catching them was more than the energy return of eating them. They also changed distributions and moved out of typical megalodon habitat. Not enough to go around.
Did any of you play the oculus rift shark game? The same friend from my greentext has an oculus and he made me fucking play that shit, once I saw the shark I was fucking done for. I just took off the oculus and left the room.
When I was a kid the robot shark from james and the giant peach was just about the scariest thing I could fathom, I think I've figured out where my fear of deep ocean water has derived from.
In hindsight, it was a pretty fucking retarded move, so you are completely right.
Fuck that shit. Went diving like that once. First time and with a bunch of other people. Looked over the edge and it went from crystal fucking clear water to the unknown depths of hell itself.
Literally shat myself. I was constipated for like 3 days too. Felt great but again, was with a bunch of other people, so it didn't go down well for them or me.
Seriously thought I was going to be sucked down to the bottom, unable to swim upwards or anything due to some kind of vortex or some shit.
Of course it's real, but it went extinct very long ago.
But anyways it is widely believed that somewhere in the ocean there is a mutant shark
who is about five times bigger as a normal shark and whe eats normal sized sharks
Its probably meant for scooping up shoals (I can't spell for shit) of fish or catching large prey. If it finds a foreign object, its probably going to try the tied and tested eating maneuver. So, say hello to old gape jaws.
No, not WAS real, IS real.
Species thought to have gone extinct are discovered all the time and megalodon is no exception.
We've only explored around 5% of our ocean - That leaves a lot to the imagination.
I hear they are developing a new type of mini-sub that can go down to ridiculous depths due to special pressurized glass or some shit. Hopefully in the near future we can see what is down there though.
I really like how everything we imagine to be under the waves is gigantic and were kinda scared of it even though the bigger it is the smaller we and the less meal we make
Do you got more information about megalodon ?
either way good post i always been afraid of what could be at the bottom of some ocean , i mean shit there could be some real scary fish in there lol
Sometimes I just don't want to know.
Whales didn't get smaller, blue whale is the largest organism ever to have lived (apart from bullshit paleontology finds that dissappear and are never properly documented)
But there are no megalodons left, they would have lived near to the surface not in deep water which is the only place they could be without being easily found
I read in an online newspaper about a reported incident where a shark attacked a swimmer and then was attacked himself. (australia I believe)
Eye witnesses said it was a giant shark, but we all know how much that says. We can only speuclate
This is actually probably the third or fourth thread I have ever done on 4chan. I have lurked for a solid three and a half years, but I barely ever post. Thanks everyone for contributing. It means a lot that people share interest in shit like this.
dude whale shark made me fucking jump up out of my chair like a frightened cat the first time i encountered him then had to repair my gear being a druid then with aquatic form prior to people grabbing the seahorse was fucked xD
i heard of something like that recently , some shark ( a white shark i think ) haven been found dead and eat by some bigger fish , scientist said they didnt know what could do that lol
Try Aquaria, it looks like a shit mermaid indie game but it's unlike any other game I've ever played. Throughout the game you just explore the depths of the oceans alone. Also you fight spooky monsters in the dark while trying to discover the last of your race, reminds me of Echo the Dolphin actually.
Pretty much. Too much pressure, too little light, and REALLY difficult to reach. Space travel is actually kind of easier, and gives alot more rewards like applicable knowledge.
Space travel? Fuck yeah, sattelites for easy communication!
Deep sea exploration? Um...we found a fish that looks like a testicle...c-cool right?
>mutant shark appears
>every /b/tard comes together
>we fuck it until it dies
>we put it on a spit roast and use our cum as a mutant shark glaze
>mfw we eat it and become the Fishmen from One Piece
i went to cuba once with my family years ago, and me and my dad decided to go for a swim, what we did was just keep swimming the opposite way of the shore at a steady speed as far as we can go, after a long time of swimming, we got to a point where the ocean floor just dropped 90 degrees down, you couldn't even see the bottom, we kept swimming on, after a while we noticed a group of fishing swimming below us, they didn't look that big, so i decided to dive down and get close to then, as i dived deeper and deeper, i noticed that they were waaay bigger then i expected, it felt as though they were the same size as me or bigger, i got scared and just swam back up as fast as i could. maybe if i had swim gear i would have gone deeper to touch them, but i wasn't even that close before i realized they were gigantic mother fuckers, although water does name fish look bigger then what they really are.
I know this isn't /v/ but was I the only one scared shitless to go into the water in GTA5? You always just felt so vulnerable when you were diving for collectables, and when the red blips appeared on my map I would just swap character. It would just make my heart sink. (no pun intended)
