>>564030191 >Because there's a fucking drought. >Because it would be better to donate money than to douse yourself with icy water. >Because most of these fags just dump lukewarm water into ice instead of stiring the mix for a good 3-5 minutes. >Because I'm not deaf.
>>564030191 im not an ignorant americunt also im not a streamer, millionar, celeb and why should i do shit like this for nohing also who the fuck would be so disabled and challange me anyway, 3 inches are to small femanon here
>>564030645 "Im not an ignorant americunt.." Sounds like you are bud. You werent going to donate anyway so the least you could do is raise awareness and "nominate" people who may donate. The moment the ice and cold water hits your body most people tense up for a very short time or longer and that is the closest feeling, that can be compared to having ALS.
To me you seem to be an incredibly ignorant person. This year ALSA has raised 22.9 million dollars this year as opposed to 1.9 million this same time last year and I guarantee the ice bucket challenge was the main cause of that. I donated this year and if it werent for the ice bucket challenge I wouldnt even know ALSA existed.
Hopefully you're just ignorant and not just plain stupid. Ignorant fucktards, racists, pedos, loaners, and other sociopaths seem to make up the majority on this site, so i guess you fit right in.
>>564030191 Because the only one who actually did any good was Charlie Sheen, he actually donated money. All the other faggots are just pouring water on themselves without donating to the actual cause. And since I don't have 10K to dump on a disease that seems to only affect white baseball players... I could really give less a shit....
>>564032438 this annoys me. every disease has a charity, and every disease has awareness programs. with that in mind, i can only conclude that you didn't know what the fuck ALS was, which is pitiful. The ice bucket challenge is gay, and people aren't doing this shit out of the goodness of their heart as you claim. Its a fad, plain and simple. Will that 22.9 million donation be duplicated every year now that people are "aware"? FUCK NO. Unless some new, gay, trendy challenge comes out, that is. I'd also add that everyone here should expect this stupid shit to continue as other charities (in particular the chairmen thereof that stand to profit) look to capitalize on the popularity of the IBC, and come up with social media challenges of their own to bring shekels into the coffers.
cause my father has prostate cancer and nobody gives a shit about something that only affects men there isn't shit funding for prostate cancer research or awareness campaigns or 5k's to raise money it's horseshit just cause it only affects men
>>564032438 It's still retarded for normal people to do the challenge. It won't raise awareness if some fucktard pours ice water over himself, for them it's most likely just a joke.
Alright they made 22.9 million dollars this year, next year they are back to 1.9 because the hype died down. Furthermore there are so many organisations that deserve the money just the same as the ALSA if not more and some of them will get less this year because people who usually donate to them might not do so this year because they already donated to ALSA.
>>564033437 I do agree that theres a lot of loopholes in many charities but how is this a stupid fad? Its only raising awareness. Yes I know what ALS/lou gehrigs disease is but the charity wasn't on my radar. I know two people within the past year who have been diagnosed with and died as a result of this motor neuron disease. Its all in the numbers.
>>564033613 that's a lie AGDQ 2014 was for prostate cancer and their treatment is named after them. They donated $1,031,189.00 just from donations not including twitch stream and yetee tshirt sales for cancer foundation.
>be Russian >been doing this shit since I was 15 with my dad >he called it '?????????' >not sure if its a thing or not >mfw american pussies think this a big deal and they pour 90% of it on neck anyways
>>564034585 Personal involvement with the disease would make me hate this thing all the more. Knowing two people who died of it doesn't make it more serious to you than pouring ice water over your head?
It was a genius move. It is currently fashionable to support ALS. They used the innate popularity of viral challenges to raise money, and its brilliant. Everyone involved knew this would work NOT because they believed people would care about working on a cure for this disease, but rather because they KNEW people would care about fitting in with their peers on social media.
This fact, and this fact alone, makes the entire campaign shallow to me.
Have you heard of Steve Gleason? Not many have. He is a former Safety that played for the New Orleans Saints. He is battling ALS and has made numerous appearances on TV in an effort to drive awareness. Despite his emotional story that succeeded in giving the public the feels, donations did not increase much at all. When did donations increase, you ask? When peer pressure and social acceptance were stirred into the mix.
>>564034493 I don't understand why people are getting irritated at an idea that the friend of someone who died of ALS thought up. If this is what works, than other foundations should come up with other creative things to raise awareness.
So you're saying because other organizations don't come up with, possibly stupid ideas, to raise money, you should feel sorry for them? Damn. "...****deserve the money**** just the same as the ALSA if not more." Are you twelve years old?
>>564036104 Make no mistake, I agree with your decision to not support this trend. But I find it difficult to believe that your reasoning has anything to do with unclean water in Africa.
However, your point is definitely a valid one, and I'd LOOOOOOVE to see it addressed by supporters of the IBC. It is impossible to argue that, to people who don't have access to clean water, this whole thing wouldn't be a huge slap in the dick.
>>564036454 Someone who HAD ALS (Pete Frates) came up with it (along with a healthy friend who has died in an unrelated incident), to correct you. You're claiming to be inspired by this movement, yet you don't even know the facts about its origin, or even the creator????
And anyway, the IBC existed PRIOR to this fad, but was adopted by Frates for this purpose.
>>564036752 its pretty fucking funny how one of the main aspects of this whole thing is to film yourself...that has led many people to come up with creative or artsy ways of doing this fucking thing, in pursuit of likes and shares on facebook. so attention whorey.
