My favorite board (except I have Divine Road Rippers on it now)
Im always popping sweet kickflips braaahh
Fresh board and trucks. My wheels are on my board in my vehicle. It's been a while since I've had a freshie. Ordered it online, but forgot to order griptape somehow.
Here's an actual pic, along with my other decks
brand new deck. look at the trucks faggot
all joking aside, here are my real setups. Skateboard is in the barn with the pipes and it is too cold to make that journey right now
>skating kept you a virgin through school faggot, get a shower
As if this makes any sense. Sounds like you're just jealous you can't skate. Don't say you're not because why the fuck else would you be in a thread about skating if you have such negative feelings for it
I suck at skating. Last time I tried I hurt a little kid a full block away, no joke. Fucked up somehow, saved myself from eating shit, the board rocket off at ten billion miles an hour right into some poor unsuspecting little girls shin down the street. I tried apologizing but the mother couldnt speak english. i felt so bad..
All my boyhood THPS dreams died long ago.
I'll stick with driving, I seem to be pretty good at that. Top ten times at nearby kart tracks (despite weighing 220lbs, comparable times were from drivers between 130-170) and no accidents in 6 cars 10 years of driving, more if you can stretch ATVs into "driving"...
Just a disclaimer, I started skating a few years ago, pretty much the end of Junior year in highschool. I dropped it to have more time to focus on studies because I can't fucking multitask for shit. Just started again about 3 days ago, found this board in a friends shed and he said I could have it. its definitely an old board and I'm thinking about replacing it. Any pointers as to what deck/trucks/wheels I should get? I like my decks on the skinny side.
Got these as a steal from eBay
Might have to wait for the spring to learn how to use these shits
Alright lads, skater newfag here, but just after some advice. How would you reccommend learning ollies while moving? only really just got into it and yet every time I try while moving I seem to lean back too much and the board just sods off from underneath me. How should I stop this?
I admit I suck at skating, but at least I'm trying to get better. I've only been at this for a few months.
If you want to give me advice I'm all ears.
>tfw mt friend is actually really good at this
well, there's no manual that states My Little Pony is for female children, but we all know man
That's why adult men are ridiculed for liking that shit, and why anyone over the age of 15 who skates is similarly ridiculed
watch other people skate. watch slow mo skate videos.
Footwork is key. Balance and board control is also key.
Learn to push and skate really fast, weave in and out of things, "tic tac-ing" and manuals.
Then once you really have no problem with balance you cant try ollies.
Also, anybody watched the videos from the Thrasher/HUF world tour?
go ahead, keep doing it if you wish
you just gotta be aware of the people laughing at you, looking down at you, insulting you, and feeling sorry for you
I've never met a skater who wasn't on the omega rung of the social ladder
if you live near a park, practice pumping and going up and down ramps
Yo lemme tell you a lil sumn about riding on the skinny side. I started out riding 7.75 and rode that for years. I moved and became friends with a local fella who has his own brand and has skateboards made and everything. Said friend also has a concrete miniramp he built in his backyard. I bought a board from him, an 8.5. It was a huuuuuuuuuuge step up, but once I got used to it it was good because I was doing a lot of vert skating. The board I just got is an 8.25. I've had other 8.25s on previous occasions and have found that the 8.25 is a good size for skating street as well as vert since its size somewhat in the middle.
Are there femanon skaters? Not trying to imply anything. Most of the skaters I know are pretty nice kids, but they are that-- teenagers. Oldfags on skateboards seem a bit weird. Or not? Educate me /b/. Oh, if an adult can make money doing it, comment withdrawn.
That anon you quoted gave some solid advice. I had a friend that had a ton of trouble learning to ollie, he worked manuals for balance. He got pretty obsessed with it and now manuals like a machine. His ollies came eventually and he almost always lands in a manual.
Keep at it anon, and if it makes you feel better I was landing 360 flips way before I could land an ollie. I have no explanation for that
Fruit booter, here.
I don't like to push planks or pop peddles.
I dont do tricks usually, you get brain damage from that shit and i cant have a helmet on top of liberty spikes. (My friend cant remember shit and got three concussions)
Yeah live pretty close to one, only problem is it's a complete death trap - the ramps are all utter wank, that's why I've basically done no work on ramps. But if you say it'll help, I'll give it a shot
San Diego limited
>go ahead, keep doing it if you wish
Gee thanks for your permission
>you just gotta be aware of the people laughing at you, looking down at you, insulting you, and feeling sorry for you
Lol what are you a girl? Do men really think like this now?
>I've never met a skater who wasn't on the omega rung of the social ladder
Again with your subjective opinion, I'm 25, engaged and make enough to buy pretty much whatever takes my fancy. But please enlighten me as to what makes you alpha and me omega.. Are you rich? Do you date a model? Drive a supercar? No. You just talk shit on b all day. Such an alpha thing to do
also yeah im a little bit buzzed atm so it figures i would call them gulf instead of gull like a dipshit and then think im correct.
Lots of adult skaters out there. Consider every skater in the first 3 - 4 tony hawk games. They are all adults, and they all did or do get paid to skate. Regardless, why does money have to have anything to do with it? Why can't people just do what they like?
anyone ever ride PNLs? I want to know how they are before I drop so much on them
There's still some of us left.
Never been ice skating before. But I'm pretty sure I'd be amazing at figure skating?
(pic related, my old shifties)
I made the cruiser on the right with my financial aid money for college and the Crusifix was a gift. Its basically fucking furniture at this point
Mini Logo, AutoBahn wheels, Redz, Pirels, and grizzly tape
What was the worst time yall faggots ever ate shit while boarding/skating? Mine was literally rolling down a paved hill and bouncing 3 times getting road rash all up and down my body
Here's a question for you.
If you were a probationer officer or a teacher or something like that and had to try and connect with a 12-13 year old skater, what would be your approach be?
If had best luck by just showing respect. ANy other suggestions?
Location is a big deal for a lot of people. What's funny to me is that i've been skating the same spots for 25 years and still see the same people. There's a skate shop about 30min away that has various theme days each month, old school nights are awesome, lots of older skaters and younger skaters having a blast together, exchanging tips, stories etc. I feel bad that it sounds like this doesn't happen enough that similar events haven't been mentioned itt
Show an interest in their interest. Maybe check out the history of skateboarding just so you have a better understanding of the topic. Try seeing if anyone local went on to become popular in the skating world. Lastly, if possible provide a place to skate, and if you do give a laminated copy of a letter stating that the skater has permission to be there. Make sure they keep that letter with them when they go.
Learn a few tricks, call him in with his board. Take him outside without saying a word take his board a throw a few tricks down. Give it back, and tell them only "you are free to go stay out of trouble"
I just bought the wheels like a week ago. Thought it would be nice, and it didn't really change how I skate other than its a lot smoother. I still have other wheels for it though
OK. But I'm still in good shape and I teach my nephews shit when I see them every couple months.
A long ass time ago I was a sponsored am in the New Deal vid 1281, fucking good times.
How will these help him? He's dealing with troubled kids. Mullen's TED talk is interesting and kinda dips into the community aspect of skating. But this won't help him connect with the kids.
>i really doubt thats a do it yourself
suck my dick fag
It will help with understanding the mentality that comes with skating. With that understanding, he can empathize with the kids, share the same mindset. Put himself in their shoes for lack of a better phrase.
I hear ya, luckily one of my friend's dad owned a lot of properties and he let us skate on all of them in specific areas. There's a guy that owns a deli up the street from me that did the same for local skaters since they kept him in business for his first few years. As a kid I never had a problem asking around for permission, I think a lot of skaters don't look at it that way which is a shame. It's always better to skate legally. The local police in my area always come out to the skate parks and talk with everyone and we all get along great. If course it took a long time to get there but it was worth it. Unfortunately, two towns over skating is a crime. If you're seen even walking with a deck in hand you're getting thrown in the back of a cruiser, deck confiscated, mandatory fine and community service for 6 months. We've been working on changing that for a long time.
Jelly board is completely home made as well.
Dark mark is art I did on my ex's shitty Globe board.
Mentality. That's the thing I'm trying to get. So far I see that they respect friends and talent. They don't dis beginners. And they stick together and look out for one another. They've already got a lot of the qualities I try to teach.
Nice thread. Brooklynfag here. Use my dervish everyday (bamboo and paris trucks feels good and orangatangs beat nyc potholes) bear trucks are shit imo. Earthwing=godtier
Sorry for shit quality.
God damn, I would literally have sex with your decks
How do you make them? Got a legit hydraulic press or screw press with patience? And do you do the artwork yourself?
Nope, just friends and family, never ask for money. Leaving for art school this week actually, thanks man.
>brother's deck, same cut as the black lotus
My brother does 90% of the manufacturing. We use baltic birch and maple in a vacuum press. TiteBond III glue 4 ply or so together and then CNC out the pattern that I designed in AutoCAD. And yeah all art is mine.
>attention whore 2damax nofux
This is my friend's board, didn't make the deck.
Check your local skating laws if there are any. Also find the nearest skate park, that's where you're more likely to meet other skaters that just want to skate and not have a negative stereotype attached to them. Probably find some businesses sympathetic to the lack of places to skate as well.
Exactly. People who skate are usually genuine. Helping each other grow, improve their skills and skating is an outlet that allows them to do so. Its an activity that has limitless goals. The possibility of being able to overcome any challenge. Skating is a way of life for a lot of people. Age isn't much of a factor since you make a decision as soon as you pick up your first board or even watch someone skate for the first time. A decision to get on a see where it takes you. That's something that stays with you for life.
Fuck i wish i could get a hold of you somehow, Im the faggot with the homo trucks S9 up there but its store bought and even though i will always love it since its mine, I kinda wish I could get a sexy asf board like that as a spare and a prize show piece.
These boys don't have money for skate parks and mommy and daddy aren't there with a station wagon for transport. I think they like finding there own place. It's like a safety zone for them. That's one reason I don't like to intrude there.
Got it last week. Best deck I have skated in awhile
I'm in Milford right now, usually just skate around town or in metroparks and shit. Grand Haven is pretty chill to cruise around if you like
the beach a lot but that's a bit of a drive.
>first deck I ever drew on
I've been thinking about making some cheap screw-press decks for shits and giggles, I actually already got the Titebond III but then I never pursued it
Friends with a ton of art majors who want to do deck art too. How do you apply the art to yours? Just painted directly and then sealed up?
-Deck AESTHETICS pro Rider: Clyde Singleton - "7 3/4"
- Trucks : Independent + Pad
- wheels: Modern 52mm
- Bearings: Mosaik abec 7
- Griptape: Pig Grip.
I understand, when I started the closest skate park was 2hrs away. Didn't make it there until I had been skating for 10+ years and you're damn right it was the first place I went when I got my license. Also, none of us had rides anywhere either, we had to skate to wherever we wanted to skate. It took many years and a lot of time and effort from many people to get my area's skaters hooked up. Regarding the safe zone, i'd leave it be unless it seems like they would want you to come check it out.
Spraypaint and sharpie, sealed with Polyacrylic but I gotta find a better sealant, not quite as waterproof as I'd like it to be.
yeah, i already screwed the pooch there. visited one time at a local hotspot. next thing i know the po po show up and the guys move out. some think i had something to do with it. i didn't but it hurt the trust i had previously built up
>Any last words of wisdom for me?
Use lots of Titebond
Plan everything out before you start
Set them up with a legit way to earn some money and some pride about it?
They could get all the shit they want with a job since they don't have bills. I got my first job at 14, bought a car because driving was my thing, was extra careful to drive by the books to work/school til I had a full license, spent what didn't go to gas and lunch on helping my family with groceries and such, my girlfriend and stupid shit that gave me a giggle... And occasionally ditch weed, but not wanting to fuck up what I'd earned kept me incredibly discreet and free of desires to cause any trouble. I could afford fun OR trouble. but not both.
Course I was always a little different anyway, bright but lazy, fairly introverted probably just from being bitter about everyone else having stable families and finances and getting shit handed to them constantly... But I had cool shit to show those who I spent my time with. Gaming shit mostly, I found out about emulation and force feedback wheels and hifi audio around then, bought a nice pair of Sennheisers and a really cool media player with awesome Audio hardware that played every format I ever found and a touchscreen and 8 hours of video/30 audio before the iPod touch was a thing.. I had a new laptop, a neat wheel controller that had motors to kick, slip and fight you back for Gran Turismo 4, I bought 3 wiis on launch night and sold 2 for a few hundred in profit on ebay, and I usually had at least a half tank of gas and some money to see a movie or take friends/family out to eat.
The experience from Which all helped immensely when I found myself moving out a week after my 17th birthday. Not kicked out, I did it to help my family and soon to be wife after shit in her life hit the fan...
Sorry if none of this is helpful, just where my mind went, and I imagine these kids might have similar feelings or life experience I did.
working with one 13 year old who is in desperate need of advice about how not to end up being called daddy by someone. tough to try to give that kind of advice without looking like a fag
Just be fucking real, being completely flat out and genuine goes a long ways, especially with kids in shitty situations.
>back on page 3 wtf
As far as creating artwork? Not huge, most kids are too busy smoking weed, skating and fucking up to actually put some effort into art. If you're dealing with a kid that has even a slight interest in it, tell them to practice the shit out of it. Great stress relief and it's just cool as fuck to get your mind vomited out on some paper, wood, cement, or whatever.
The tessy is mine, hated the cult classics so I swapped em for cult chronicles and caddy swingers. My gf owns the platy.
>mfw this thread hasn't died yet
Just got into skating recently.
Marc Johnson chocolate deck
Bones reds bearings
Musko 'love kills' trucks
Penny cruiser wheels.
wheels are a bit strange but they're so smooth.
Longboarding is definitely easier to pick up than just straight up skateboarding. If you want to get into that just get a nice hefty board and go at it in some suburbs. As for skating I have no advice, never really got into it as there weren't any skaters where I grew up.
Yeah, my nephew screamed that when riding Wallonhill in belgium, then some other guy did and broke his leg cause he was looking at the camera instead of keeping his eye on the road. haha.
That was one of my follies. Same girl mentioned earlier. Been 9 years and we are still together tho.
I didn't want kids from some frustrating experiences in caring for younger cousins, and was smart enough to know it would fuck my shit up HARD if it happened. Opted for spermicide suppositories and pulling out because we hated condoms and were each others first.. Developing sexual urges early really sucks.
Luckily there is now a pleathera of internet porn so he can just go jack it with little to no harm...
>Luckily there is now a pleathera of internet porn so he can just go jack it with little to no harm...
I think she is the problem, not him. Or perhaps I should say she is the risk. But he's a risk taking kind of kid.
