Anyone know any nice RTS games besides Red Alert and C&C?
I've been enjoying War Game, Airland battle. Basically
Nato forces vs the WarPact forces of around 1989. Hard as fuck to learn, but once you learn, it's very fun to fuck other people up. Especially commies.
Dawn of war and all its expansions are great
1 is far better than 2 imo
especially with ultimate apocolipse mod
its red alert with fixes and good working online mode ( if you have a good connection it will be a lag free game ), supports up to 16 players and gets updated every 1-2 months, and has more like 10 people working on it. its great, they balanced the sides really good. the best is, you cant pull off the engineer rush anymore.
Civilization is a 4x game not a MN RTS dumb ass... It's even turn based. Wtf... It's like people think any game you have to click on a map is an rts.
RTS means REAL TIME STRATEGY meaning it takes place in real time not turn based... If you can't manage your troops in response to enemy advances at the same time, and you don't have the ability to micromanage then it is not a real time strategy game.
>sins of a solar empire
i wish supreme commander was as good as TA was at it's time.
SC was too laggy, no micromanagement of troops. You only spammed hordes of t1 then tried to switch to t2 and the game was over. If it was a big map then you spam strategic bombers and maybe an experimental.
these anons know their shit
Empire Earth 1, they fucked 3 and have no idea about 2
don't get supreme commander 2 though, it went shit
Yep. One of the greatest things about SupCom (and it's predecessor, Total Annihilation) was the massive scale of everything.
Then SC2 fucked everything up, especially the scale. Plus switching from a flow-style economy (C&C used this style too) to what games like Warcraft and Starcraft use. That was just dumb.
You can play as the elk in this fucking game!
Star wars empire at war Plus the exexpansion. If you find them easy you can get the republic at war mod which playing as GAR is insanely gard
most memorable thing about this game was the ridiculously high pop limit.
also the Germans got missiles which annihilated their entire town if they didnt have proper air defense
The Campaign was a lot of fun and kinda eases you into the different races you can play. Also the Skirmish mode is great, really easy to load up the game and click a few buttons to play the AI. It's "slow pace" reminds me of C&C but the graphics are amazing.
How is this not getting talked about in here?
holy shit this
so much this.
also, and I'm just gonna recommend new stuff here, because all the old shit's already been listed a thousand times:
Grey Goo (haven't played it, but watched a video of it and it looks really, really interesting)
StarCraft 2 (goes without saying)
Homeworld: Remastered (the most epic RTS you will ever play. Especially if you like multiplayer)
Planetary Annihilation (havent played it, but looks epic)
War for the Overworld ("Dungeon Keeper 3")
Homeworld 2 with the Complex mod or Simple Complex mod,
SC I or II ,
warcraft III ,
age of empires,
LOTR Battle for middle earth, Company of Heroes with the expansion since it increase the factions by adding Britain and an elite german force,
Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour is fun but it gets better if you mod it with Rise of the Reds,
Red Alert 3 (wackier than ever), Impossible Creatures is also a good pick with the Tellurian mod where some dudes add more animals to mix and match with,
Airmech is a cross between a MOBA and an RTS,
speaking of MOBAs, I prefer Valves term for the genre, ARTS or action RTS, so if you ever decide to try ARTS go with LoL move up to Dota then play fucking SMITE
I used to have so much fun teaming up with Russia, trading my territory for the ones surrounding Moscow, then invading Moscow and controlling the world.
Empire Earth is fun but bloated. that goes for Empire Earth 2 as well. It's kinda ugly, the UI sucks and it's not intuitive or balanced in any way shape or form. That doesn't mean it isn't FUN, but if it's something it ain't, it's polished.
Something simply would prob be like Age of Empires 1/2/3 or Age of Mythology. Or WarCraft 3, StarCraft 2 or some such. I'd prob recommend the "Age of..." games tho. I'm not a huge fan of them, but they are simple, they introduce you to a lot of shit and they are fun.
Homeworld should be a step on the way up the ladder.
Return Fire is what i look for in a woman
Don't play the second chapter though, it's gay.
Emperor: Battle for Dune.
There's three factions and 5 sub factions. In both campaign and multiplayer (or skirmish) you get to choose your factions and two of your subfactions, so that there's great room for variation within the game itself.
It's the last true "Westwood" game, I think, and it shows. It's the same formula that had been going strong since Dune 2 and C&C1, but it's refined to a point and taken into 3D.
In many ways, tho, you can tell why the Blizzard way of RTS design won out over Westwoods. The UI isn't perfect...
Still, fun game, lots of units and a very living world with sandworms, storms and re-emergent spice. Fun!
Get a hold of the original Starcraft and the Brood War Expansion and try those out. That's a good middle ground to all of the RTS's in terms of resource management and army management as you can learn how to micromanage and macro-manage with the different races. The upgrade system is extremely forgiving and easy to learn (except you won't know what some things do since the lack of ability descriptions).
Other RTS's that anons are mentioning here have more robust resource management or have giant armies at your command so once you get a feel of RTS games then try out more that are being suggested in here. Personally I feel like trying out Grey Goo now.
A very nice RTS which is pretty old but also is a fucktun of fun is Thandor. Also mentioned Empire Earth. A nice Game i always loved to play was ground control and ground Control 2.
anyone remember Dominion?
>no skirmish mode
wtf developers, wtf
Seriously dudes, if you liked Red Alert 1 or C&C, try OpenRA. It's really fun. It's got bots so you can just do an offline skirmish and rig the teams as you like. Tons of maps, too.
You also don't need to have the ISO's of Red Alert and C&C. It downloads them automatically.
Fucking get online you sluts
Star Ruler 2 will be an amazing RTS once it's done.
Mainly because the engine it runs on is hilariously efficient (It takes liberal use of the sandbox mode or over-the-top subsystem modification before the game starts even lagging a little bit. I have yet to cause it to crash by stressing it, and I've done some pretty crazy stuff).
They literally made it to be less "hardcore" removing everything that made the original great.
Pa is a good concept but from what I've played it seems to lack a lot. A big bonus of the original was multiple races with the ability to capture tech. Gave skirmishes added dynamics when you had the ability to collect all tech trees.
I whish the orbital warfare was better. With the whole planet thing navies have become redundant. Plus no experimental slime in supp comm.
The ability to create high power orbital ships could have been a fun dynamic. Understand why it has not been done tho.
The planet generation I think needs work, too. Why use navies when there's not enough bodies of water that span the map?
There's a definite loss in fidelity with the planets compared to supcom maps. You can't really exploit a terrain advantage much - the idea is that it's all about the approach angle. That's my amateur feelings about it anyway.
Plus the edge of the map is a major strategic element - I wonder why they haven't tried to replicate this in some way by having swathes of inaccessible terrain - perhaps even by aircraft - so you might have some kind of defensible pockets or unique terrain to conquer and hold.
Currently it's like playing Risk on a big board that is almost entirely uniform save for some minor peturbations. Where's the fun in that? The fun in Risk is when you take Australia and hole up like a motherfucker and end up taking over all of Asia.
I rep that shit too. Get Red Dragon bruh.
oh shit i never knew that
greatest fucking medieval RTS
Battle Realms, older game by Ubisoft before they shat themselves to all fuck. Chinky japanese theme but very unique mechanics and an emphasis on hard counters and balanced army composition.
Sacrifice, also older game. First person perspective wizard simulator, controls are janky as all fuck and console kids cry trying to play it but worth it. Has Tim Curry in it.
Also this whole fucking thread.
naaaaw, can't think of anything to say?
tried it recently, really wanted to like it, interesting technology and graphics, but ridiculously repetitive missions make it dogshit and unplayable for more than a couple of hours
Tell your momma spidey will be home by 6

Hello, is this your first time here? I see you figured out how to post, that is good. A good first step is something you can build on later. Also I notice that you included a pic in your post. Well done! You are very smart. Well done again and enjoy your stay on this imageboard.
it's been a long time since i saw someone fall for bait as hard as you just did...
it's almost a work of art.
>falling for my double bait
Can someone explain the difference between RTS & RTT? I'd recommend Rome: Total War, but its categorized as RTT. Not sure if it matters though.
