I'm thinking about joining a religion.
I've been a fedora tipper far too long.
Which one do you recommend and which one is the best?
I'm accepting all including religions that no one worships anymore.
i am also on this quest, though perhaps a bit further along that you, so i believe i can help quite well actually. there are groups known as Pagans, which is an umbrella term for all of those non-christian nature religions. there are a lot of festivals where these guys get together. the very first thing is you should have some exposure to others who practice these religions.
Buddhism is really the only logical religion.
May I ask what has caused this sudden interest in religion?
You can always do what I did and make your own frankenreligion using bits you like from other religions. So far it's been a kind of deism with a dash of Buddhism and some odd bits of Christianity.
the concept that ive been taught is "there are many paths up the mountain." the mountain being 'enlightenment' or a greater connection with the universe. but this also states that there is no one 'right' way, but there may be a 'best' way for YOU. and in our modern age we have so many to choose from, our challenge is to find the best one.
No religion really wants someone who DECIDES to join a religion.
Besides, you think athiesm is just a neckbeard thing because you're too naive to know what spirituality even is.
Be Christian then, that should round you up with the rest.
Life getting too hard to handle, OP?
Need someone to tell you how to live, eh?
Christianity, but, don't be an asshole like most mainstream "Christians"
If practiced correctly, Christianity is more akin to Buddhism, which you can also follow in parallel to the teachings of Jesus.
Try the slavic neopagan beliefs. I'm fooling around with them myself and it's cool.
I'm catholic and catholics believe you don't even need to be part of a religion to enter heaven, just be a good person with a good heart and good morals, as corny as it may sound.
tl;dr you don't need a religion OP, just be a good fucking person.
Cam-whoreism is the best religion. Take that fedora off and worship these titties.
Apparently, you've only been exposed to the strains in the West. Go to Tibet, China, practically anywhere else, and it's filled with dragons and deities and all that shit. Go to a Buddhist center, get their chants and translate them. These are littered with calls to deities. It's absolutely a religion.
They all believe in reincarnation into other lifeforms, based on certain spiritual "merits." Just because they don't use the G-Word in the West, doesn't mean that there isn't an implied being that keeps a running tally on all of humanity.
Unless you throw out everything but the meditation, it's just as stupid as any other religion. Don't be a retarded hippy.
He's an apostate! stone him!! was something no atheist ever said.
be catholic, its the easiest to get into and it doesnt really mean anything other than being accepted socially
you dont even have to believe all that crazy shit, just say you do like everyone else and you're cool
Go catholic or go home.
My family is catholic and it's really the only religion I could consider labeling myself with.
Nobody gives a shit if you're catholic. Not even other Catholics. If you can avoid the whole never ending guilt thing, it's basically a cakewalk. Nobody tries to debate you, nobody tries to make you sing along with any bullshit I love Jesus songs, they just want you to know that there will always be blood on your hands. Church is boring but I haven't been since I was eight, so I don't think its a requirement or anything.
Uhh Communism? You don't like Jewish foreigners ruling over you? Enemy of the State! Burn the Churches, Destroy the Christians!
Don't be fooled. You can't say "it's not in the name of atheism." No true Scotsman fallacy.
nope, it involves a path for humankind not to die in these coming 100-300 years, depending of the success and then how it spreads, think evolved sci-fi humans without the survival of the fittest mentality we have in society today
wrote a paper on Forn sed no too long ago, gud stuff
Fun facts about Buddhism
>1. Buddhism is non-theistic. Buddha was not a god nor did he claim to be. Buddhists do not pray to Buddha or worship him but simply give him thanks for his philosophy.
>2. Buddhism is accepting of all moral religions. It is possible to be a Christian and a Buddhist as long as the Christian part will agree with Buddhism. One may also be a Buddhist and an atheist.
>3. There has never been a war fought in the name of Buddhism.
>4. Buddhism does not make absurd scientific claims. It also encourages it's followers to test it's principles for themselves.
>5. Buddhism does not have laws but rather has principles all Buddhists do their best to follow.
>6. Buddhism morality has the following precepts: : not to take the life of anything living, not to take anything not freely given, to abstain from sexual misconduct and sensual overindulgence, to refrain from untrue speech, and to avoid intoxication, that is, losing mindfulness.
>7. Einstein endorsed Buddhism as the only religion compatible with science.
Buddhism has the characteristics of what would be expected in a cosmic religion for the future: It transcends a personal God, avoids dogmas and theology; it covers both the natural and spritual; and it is based on a religious sense aspiring from the experience of all things, natural and spiritual, as a meaningful unity. -Albert Einstein
If there is any religion that would cope with modern scientific needs it would be Buddhism. -Albert Einstein
>8. Buddhism really isn't a religion but a philosophy. The Dalai Lama has said Buddhism didn't become a religion until the west called it one.
So /b/, why aren't you a Buddhist?
Jessica Nigrism accepts all, be free and fap my child.
Because you left out all the very true and bad parts about it, you dipfuck. How about the fact that the Dalai Lama wants freedom for Tibet so he can rule as a god-king and force the peasants to work for his priestly class, while they sit around and spin their prayer wheels?
Not to mention have your post just isn't true. Go to Asia, the western version is not representative.
>western version is not representative.
So what? It's a good philosophy. Buddhism is what you make of it.
and Tapedick is a false prophet. Bend the knee to Nigrism or face your doom, son.
No. It's either true or not true. With such a sloppy conception of it, there's no definition, which means "it" has little meaning. If everything is subjective, it couldn't be distinct from any other belief system.
Fuck you new age wankers. Stop stealing and modifying other cultures and religions for your own ends. They have meaning for those people, changing it to suit your needs, means you're no longer talking about the same thing.
Rare and dangerous form of Satanism I saw on /x/.
I can believe what I want Buddha said so. You can be closed minded if you prefer.
/r/atheism accepts everyone as long as you are euphoric.
I see a lot of debate going on about Buddhism. My piece of advice: any serious Buddhist will tell you that meditation is the most important thing, and the suttas don't need to be taken literally to learn the lessons from them. Stick with therevada Buddhism, or if you really don't care about the doctrines at all and just want to meditate, try zen buddhism.

Hi Elliot, good to see you again.
Your ignorance of white christ is apparant.
According to christian doctrine, god, jesus and the holy spirit are all one god; the Trinity
Also, food for general thought: We all hear about God and his vengeful deeds in the old testament. Jesus and his hippie behaviour in the new testament. It's funny that noone ever mentions exactly what the holy spirit is.
I wonder why that is, hmmmmm?
(I Jest. I know why that is. but do you?)
