I have a question for Atheists. How can you believe with 100% certainty that there is no God when there is no proof that he does not exist? That doesn't seem like a very logical, open minded and scientific way to view the world. It seems more like your beliefs are being dictated by your emotions and not on facts (just like religious people).
becuase you cant know nuffin
Assuming this isn't b8 and you're just retarded.
It's based off of choosing the neutral stance and wanting evidence. Not believing is neutral, it's up to facts and evidence to convince me that he does in fact exist. Life the universe has possible explanations that aren't god, and are not evidence, it needs to be something that could only come from a god.
There is no evidence for god, people who choose to believe something without evidence are retarded.
Most atheist are agnostic atheists, they are not sure if there is a god, and don't claim to know either way.
and alternate definition of religion is:
a pursuit or interest to which someone ascribes supreme importance.
So if you deem the importance of proof , and there are others like you who share that belief, you are therefore a religion. You lose either way.
Prove to me the flying spaghetti monster doesn't exist... Until then stfu
This is bait as is always but i'll give it an answer cause i'm downloading something and have nothing better to do.
First atheist nowadays is more like a term people call themselves to be edgy 12 year olds. Most people who don't believe simply say I not religious where I came from and try not to use that word that neckbeards ruined.
As for me, its amazing to thing about where we came from but there is way to many holes in the logic. First, now that stuff has been proven wrong in a book people say just don't take it literally. That is just dumb why write something in code if you want people to follow it till they die? Plus it never made since that the religion you group up in is always the right one and all others are false even though its pretty much the same people in each book.
That being said, its still impossible no matter what. I grew up in a religious house and was forced to go to church until I moved out. For some of the reasons I listed I just stopped going to church because it made no sense. The breaking point for me was when I sat with a priest and asked, "If God really made us, who made God?". His reply was it really doesn't matter human curiosity only exists on earth. To which I lost all respect after that.
You aren't really this retarded, right? Right?
Nope dumbass, you have to prove that it is. If claim something, you have to prove it.
We atheists often say that we are no smarter than religious people, but after reading countless stupid comments from the religious, I not so sure that is the case.
The thing is, no one knows how the fuck we got here. Its speculation. Everything could be wrong entirely. Believing anything with 100% certainty without knowing completely in your heart, and mind for sure (seeing with your own eyes) is stupid.
when dense motherfuckers like you believe in an already unlikely story, then that's 1000% proof that it is bullshit.
How can you even trust your own eyes? How do you know they're not lying to you?
In the end, the only 100% reliable way to find the truth is with logic. At least we know logic is certain.
That's not really true considering the overwhelming amount of evidence for Evolution, the nebula hypothesis, and various scientific theories. We can explain with a high amount of certainty that know how we got here, especially since it is highly unlikely that certain findings will be refuted.
>Do you have any proof that there isn't a floating bundle of sentient spaghetti one million light years from here?
If it's sentient, it's not sphagetti. So it still can't be real. And how did it evolve to live and float in space?
Have you ever seen concrete proof that it is physically impossible for such a thing to exist?
Also, I declare there's an invisible teapot orbiting the sun between Earth and Mars. Prove me wrong.
THATS THE FUCKING POINT, JACKASS
I'm showing him how rediculous believing in the FSM without any proof is so that he might realize that believing in God without any proof is dumb as shit.
Watch 2001 by S. Kubrick.
It explains the never ending search of "God", whatever that is. The movie highlights the human's ambitions of learning beyond their reach and the impossibility of knowing the purpose of the universe. This is a curse for us: trying to figure out something we can't.
P.S. if this was b8 - fuck you m8.
If sphagetti is sentient, why doesn't it talk to us? And what about other pastas? Alsot teapots aren't invisible. Where did it come from? Why is it floating in space? How'd it get there? You're going to have to be more clear anon.
Evolution is basically a certainty. We know pretty well how a good chunk of the universe... evolved, if you will. He's saying that just because we don't know every single little piece of the puzzle that doesn't mean that the big chunk of the pieces we have are wrong.
You've got it completely backwards. Start with the evidence and then form a conclusion, not the other way around.
I await evidence of the supernatural and when I get it, I'll form a conclusion based on that. Anything else is just wishful thinking.
Here's a better question - why does the USA top the charts in the Western world in both believing in angels and creationism? It's like an entire nation of simpletons guided by a few evil geniuses.
FUCK YOU DONT USE LOGIC ON ME WHY DO YOU HATE MY RELIJIN?!!
The point is, the burden of proof lies on the one making the batshit insane statement. There is not a single thread of evidence for God's existence, and the possibility of his existence is logically not there (even the concept of omnipotence is self-contradictory). So at this point, I don't have to prove you wrong--you have to prove yourself right.
But what has Evolution got to do with how everything started? You still haven't answered anything. And of course we don't know. Nobody does. That's why we can't claim there is a God or that there isn't. You've just proved my point.
>There is not a single thread of evidence for God's existence
>and the possibility of his existence is logically not there
>even the concept of omnipotence is self-contradictory
So basically you're just telling us your opinion. You don't actually have any facts or KNOW. Just as I thought.
It's the way people talk. Just as a previous anon was brought up the teapot, everyone is just going to say said teapot doesn't exist, even though they cannot prove that it doesn't. If asked to explain further you're going to get answers that show almost all athiests are agnostic athiests.
Go with what the evidence supports - and nothing else.
Does the evidence support a god theory? No. Currently it doesn't. That's not to say there never will be evidence but it's looking fucking unlikely.
Take a step back.
Religious person: I believe God exists!
Atheist: No it doesn't; you have no evidence.
The religious person is the only one making an unsubstantiated claim. The atheist is just calling the unsubstantiated claim out as bullshit.
>>There is not a single thread of evidence for God's existence
Can't prove a negative. Burden of proof lies on the one making a positive statement. It's simple logic.
>>and the possibility of his existence is logically not there
That was the omnipotence thing. Speaking of which...
>>even the concept of omnipotence is self-contradictory
Can God creat a rock that he cannot lift? If he can, then he is not omnipotent. If he can't, he is not omnipotent. Checkmate.
>So basically you're just telling us your opinion. You don't actually have any facts or KNOW. Just as I thought.
Yes I fucking do, jackass.
>Time didn't exist before the big bang so there was no "before!"
>You'd know this if you went to a school that wasn't free.
What school teaches and what science book states that time did not exist before the big bang? I think you're confusing THEORIES with FACTS anon.
>Religious person: I believe God exists!
>Agnostic: No it doesn't; you have no evidence.
>Atheist: I believe God does not exist!
>Agnostic: No it doesn't; you have no evidence.
fixed that for you
God created the big bang while he was diddling around in some other dimension, said oh shit and killed himself, the rest is history. You read it here folks. Now we can put this all to rest.
If there had never been religious people claiming there was a God, there would not need to be a group denying it.
Our society got swept up in some fiction we're still trying to get over millennia later.
>Can God creat a rock that he cannot lift? If he can, then he is not omnipotent. If he can't, he is not omnipotent. Checkmate.
Omnipotent means you can anything. That's literally the definition. So he can create logic and reality and everything from nothing, but is now stuck and can't recreate it? I think you need to look up Omnipotence in a dictionary.
>You don't actually have any facts or KNOW.
>Yes I fucking do, jackass.
You know there is no God? Wow. You've basically just proved OP right.
>If there had never been religious people claiming there was a God, there would not need to be a group denying it.
The concept of a higher power isn't exclusive to religion you retard.
I think a lot of people on this thread would seriously benefit from either reading or listening to the audio of this book...
So you're telling me that this God doesn't follow the rules of logic? You mean to tell me that something exists that defies every possible law of physics, nature, reason, AND common sense? That is not a belief. It's a delusion.
There is no proof and we probably will never have full proof, but there is proof a lot of religious beliefs are just not possible, and religion is being debunked more and more everyday. There's a direct relationship between education and religion: More education means less religious people.
You want to be religious? Fine. But don't mock me with your bullshit and I won't mock you with my bullshit. All I wish for is that we don't kill each other over this bullshit.
>1. almighty or infinite in power, as God.
>2. having very great or unlimited authority or power.
>3. an omnipotent being.
>4. the Omnipotent, God.
Anon, read a dictionary.
>So if an Atheists claim that there is no God, that's not claiming something and they are exempt from providing proof?
No because atheims is a response to theism. Theists put the claim forward that there is a god, atheism is just the response position if confronted with the question.
>I'm the invisible teapot
>stopped orbiting years ago
>chilling on earth for a millenia or two
>proved you wrong
>prove me wrong
How can you be sure there is no god?
>Invisible, all-knowing, all-powerful being
>Always existed and created the entire universe with a wave of the hand
No, there is absolutely no chance this is true. Even being "agnostic" is retarded. Saying you "can't prove it" is retarded. Invisible magical gods are IMPOSSIBLE, you faggot!
Which god are you talking about?
Explain why I should believe in yours, rather than the thousands of others out there.
Unlike most retarded atheists I have actually read the bible and understand it's not a history book. I do believe in god but I don't belive the bible is to be taken word for word as a fact. The bible is a very long telephone game that has been unfortunately chopped up over the centuries. Even if you dismiss religion I would still give it a good look through. You can learn a lot from it. As for the science standpoint we don't know for a fact how life originated and how the universe came to be. All we have are accepted theories. As solid sounding as these theories are they cannot be proven fact until observed.
i dont and cant, what i do know 100 % however is that the god in the bible or quran are way to petty and small to be the god. With all we know about science and the universe today we need to expand our understanding of god and realize if even a man can overcome petty emotions like jealousy and greed, then god can to.
A neutral god is the only likely answer, full of love but aware that destruction feeds creation and everything in this universe is recycled and eventually must come to an end.
Furthermore, god does not care who or how of if we pray to him, know idea if heaven is real but I am damn sure hell isnt, there is simply no reason to create eternal torture for getting the answer to a question youre not even sure you were asked wrong.
So fuck all you christians, muslims and jews for insulting god and taking bits of pieces and fucking around with the concept for a quick buck.
If god is sentient, why doesn't it talk to us? And what about other gods? Where did it come from? Why is it floating in space? How'd it get there? You going to have to be more clear anon?
Once people understand these ideas are fiction made up in our brains, even high people will realize it's not real.
Humans are predisposed to belief because of social environment combined with evolutionary pressure.
(Hell, thinking there was a God and life had purpose would have made survival easier. And probably does to this day, if you're willing to ignore rational and observable truth about reality.)
Why do so many Atheists assume that God is magical and compare God to unicorns and teacups? God hasn't even been properly defined yet, so why are you even believing that something doesn't exist and not even know what that thing is?
In all instances of invisibility I've seen, even when you're invisible, you still have mass and take up space. Considering my tv is about a thick as two slices of bread, I highly doubt your invisible nigger tales.
Scientific alternatives aren't 'retarded', because they attempt to explain themselves with theories based on observable evidence.
Invisible Magic God (the bad kind of IMG) is a theory based on nothing but human stories.
>So when/if proof of a god surfaces, humans will no longer be able to deny it.
>until then fuck off
>Once people understand these ideas are fiction made up in our brains, even high people will realize it's not real.
How is the idea of some high power fictional and how is believing that everything came from nothing randomly any better? You are too narrow minded anon.
Because it's not 'from nothing randomly'; there are theories on how the form the universe took prior to the big bang. Here, go read about them: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Bang#Observational_evidence
As vague as you might find that evidence, it's still more than the theory of God manages.
Where I come from, you're a minority group. Not just Christians, all religions are a minority.
This is because of education. I'm going to take a guess and say you're amerifat. You're culture has typically followed ours with about 20 years lag, so it's happening to you too.
Where am I from? British master race chekun in
>British master race
Britain is honestly one of the most boring places to ever live in. I would know myself since I live in this shithole right now. I can't wait to leave this fucking place.
>I don't make claims about things I don't fully understand
>Sounds pretty edgy to me
Vagueness is always key, I don't push for god, or for science, I push for the unknown, there is no certainty at all, "logic is certainz" its really not. I'm bringing up the fact that 100% knowledge in our origin is way beyond our reach. Its tug of war.
I would pick up a few science books of I were you. Start with basic pyshics books published in the 1980's and work your way up to modern quantum pyshics. The more you learn the more you realize how little we know. Just because we understand how things work doesn't mean we know what created them to begin with. Until you properly educate yourself, you can fuck off.
These people have no idea what the word "theory" means in science and are automatically excluded from any debate due to severe ignorance. A scientific theory is typically a better-supported fact than any fact you could think of off the top of your head. You can't produce peer-reviewed evidence of your shirt color, but I sure as hell can produce peer-reviewed evidence of abiogenesis.
In science, the word "theory" refers to a statement of principles that draws on an enormous amount of convincing data collected that has underwent the scrutiny of the scientific community. Your conception of the word "theory" is most similar to the word "hypothesis" and is not how the scientific community uses the word.
In short, go take a fucking freshman level intro science course before you talk about science. Just because you don't know what the evidence is for something (abiogenesis, the Big Bang, evolution, etc.) doesn't mean it's not there. It means you're ignorant. So shut the fuck up.
>head of state is literally the head of a church
Uhm, no lol. But this doesn't change the truth. Religion is dying out, give it another generation or two :)
I have a question for those who don't believe in santa claus. How can you believe with 100% certainty that there is no santa claus when there is no proof that he does not exist? That doesn't seem like a very logical, open minded and scientific way to view the world. It seems more like your beliefs are being dictated by your emotions and not on facts (just like religious people).
How is that edgy in any way shape or form? You complain that I take people's word for it, now it's edgy to not take people's word for it. Am I supposed to believe everything that is told?
Correct. Theory is fact guys, you're confusing this with hypothesis
You know who are Atheists these days? People that have too much time on their hands. While normal people are out there working hard and raising a family and buying a house and providing and contributing to society, these retards are arguing about shit that doesn't even matter.
the Head of state ie the Queen is head of the church. It has been that way since the dissolution of the monastries by Henry VIII and the separation from the catholic church around 1541 or so. So...yeah
Pretty retarded considering I'm an Atheist but I don't give a shit what anyone thinks, you could believe all governments are shape-shifting reptiles, I wouldn't care. I only hate people that believe that they're better than someone because of a different belief system, or no belief system.
Circlular reasoning, top fucking kek :D
God may or may not exist.
There's also Deism that says God did exist but it is gone now and really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.
Then there's the christfags that think their idea of God is always the right one and continually impress their own cultural programming onto others.
Every mind is a mind unto its own and people may or may not think they way you do, you better get used to it because this is how life works.
Agnostic isn't a point in a line between atheism and theism.
You can be an agnostic atheist, a gnostic atheist, an agnostic theist or a gnostic theist.
Your comment suggests that atheists claim to know that god doesn't exist, and theists claim to know that god does exist.
Take aliens for example, I have no evidence that aliens exist, so I don't believe in them, but I think that there is a strong possibility that they do.
Not believing in something does not mean believing in its non-existence.
Religiosity is probably best depicted on a point where agnosticism-gnosticism is on one axis and atheism-theism on the other.
Or you know, we could just shut the hell up about religion because there is no benefit of having one belief over another. It just causes pointless debates where usually neither side lets up.
I may have said some things but that doesn't mean I completely disregard theories, quit being a dumbfuck, I'm skeptical of everything. Because you can't be entirely certain on everything. I'm not religious.
I have a question for Theists. How can you believe with 100% certainty that there is God when there is no proof that he exists?
I don't think i am an athiest, but i am not a theist either because you just don't know if god exists or not.
It's a matter of faith. I choose to believe that when I die I will go to another plane of existence instead of everything just ending and nothing comes after death. That's such a bleak outlook. No wonder why most of you are depressed chronic masturbating dank meme shitposting nobodys. If you have nothing to look forward to why even exist?
I look forward to events that happen in reality, getting laid, eating good food, etc.
I know that when I die nothing happens, because the evidence says that our brains die, not that our consciousness leaves our bodies and goes somewhere else. You think we'd be able to measure something like that.
Because of this, I probably enjoy life more than you do. My life isn't just scoring points for the afterlife or suffering through pointless shit because "it'll be better in the next life," I understand the universe doesn't give a shit about me and I'm here virtually alone but I have friends and family and fun times ahead so I'll cherish that while I can instead of holding my hands over my ears in the fetal position trying to convince myself that the cosmos gives a fuck about our insignificant little planet.
Never said it was true my fellow white knight ;) we should crusade together in a futile attempt to legalize marijuana! Maybe we can get le reddit army to help us as well. Science iz king. Science iz god. Nevermind I don't enderstand itz and it will be outdated in 30 years where I'm still a kissless virgin because my edgyness repels everyone away from me.
>when I die I will go to another plane of existence
>when I die
>I will go to another plane of existence
i.e. living after death i.e. afterlife
Sounds pretty afterlifey to me, but in a smug "it's not technically an afterlife because I thought it up and it's not in a bible *tips religious fedora*"
Skepticism is excellent when you are trained enough to understand how to be skeptical. In fact, the scientific method demands skepticism. Unfortunately, none of the "skepticism" in this thread has been constructive to science for over 200 years.
>you can't be entirely certain on anything
This isn't constructive. It's a false equivalency. Just because *you* aren't learned enough to understand the evidence for scientific theories (and conversely, the lack of evidence supporting any religion) doesn't mean the evidence isn't there.
Tl;dr (since apparently it's hard for you to read 3 paragraphs): Your skepticism was debatably helpful two centuries ago, but by now, you're essentially debating against electromagnetism or acidity principles.
It's a matter of facts. I choose to believe that when I die I will return to the earth and continue a cycle present for thousands of years instead of go to another plane of existence because I worshipped an angry praise demanding idol. That's such a bleak outlook. No wonder why most of you are depressed chronic masturbating dank meme shitposting nobodys. If you have nothing to look forward but death why even bother living.
In my experience, people who are raised in a religious household, often don't understand what they say say they believe. They often reply with "I was raised like that" to which I say it is the parents fault. They teach us to talk, to write and to read. We take their word as gospel [pardon the pun] but we should not have their beliefs taught to us. Coming from a teenager who was raised catholic but has since found his own comfort in Atheism. Although, i disagree with the term 'Atheist.' A comes from greek which meand 'non' and theist is from latin meaning 'believer' and so it means, non believer. But that makes the assumption that there is something to believe in.
This is old pasta but fuck it i'll bite since i dont have anything better to do.
Men have been into space and still didnt find him so where the fuck is God?
And if God is in another galaxy does that mean he's an alien?
