What's the actual problem with being Christian/religious? (Excluding radicalists)
>inb4 I'm just wrong
>ind4 OP's a faggot
Because it's essentially pointless and ends up just telling people how to run their lives.
If you're anglican, or certain type of protestant you're usually fine as the societal group and pressure isn't as hardcore and you're usually able to keep yourself to yourself.
By and large every other religious group is fucking controlling and retarded.
Some people might need that helping hand. I get it that some of the rules are a little outlandish, but would you rather think you're going to a better place or think you just die? Good point though
The idea behind Protestantism was that the Catholic Church was corrupt and becoming a modern Babylon. In reaction to this, Luther and other like minded Christians began to leave the institution and return to the Holy Scriptures which led to the belief that a person can communicate directly with God and that faith produces good works, not the vice versa.
>you're usually able to keep yourself to yourself.
Still utter heresy
Yeah but most of the time people in religious groups are there by birth not because they've voluntarily decided to become part of one. Not that no one does.
And considering the amount of shit that i've done that says in the bible i'll go to hell, I'd rather there not be anything after death than eternal suffering.
And thats not even including the equally possible chance that the Qur'an or the Torah, or any other fucking holy book are the correct one if I only choose to be religious to get into heaven, and in that case i'm still an apostate and i'll be going to hell regardless.
Someone who uses a religion as a front to get what they want IE: the KKK or isis
>opinion on abortions
I don't really have one. It says in the bible that all people before a certain age (not sure what age) go to heaven when they die. But, you could just have the child then give it up for adoption. >>613444111
There's nothing wrong with being Christian or religious as long as you don't force your beliefs on anyone else. I know that christians are supposed to proselytize but you should only do that to people who are willing to hear it. Standing on a street corner shouting shit at people is a step too far. So there's nothing wrong with it if you keep it to yourself.
I hate it because it means you go to hell if you don't believe. Doesn't matter how good of a person you are. This will include my family which are all agnostic. I'm not going to support god even if he is real.
also Christfag. I agree with you- the point is to try to bring people to be "christ like" e.g. helpful, friendly, loving, ect. The only issues i see are with homosexuals as we are to help them, but at the same time cant let them continue being homosexual.
True but what if you were raised in say, a good Hindu family and devoted your entire life to helping people?? Hell. In my mind that's not loving. Also what if you have never heard of Christianity before?? Hell it is again.
Because you don't worship the God-Emperor!
No my point was that you need to let people be. If you want to influence people do it by just being "christlike" yourself. Leave homosexuals alone, unless they want your help. Period. You don't get to try to influence people other than through your own behavior. Get me?
Because they haven't graduated preschool yet.
Children are different, there's nothing anyone can or should be able to do to stop people from raising their children in their beliefs.
Random people are the ones I'm talking about. And if you do that then you're what's wrong with being Christian/religious.
You're a fucking idiot, the Promised Land, which is what you're mistaking for Heaven, is Canaan.
Heaven isn't even a subject in the context of this verse.
That entire bit is about how the Israelites were disobedient and unfaithful to God, so they're not going to enter the Promised Land but their next generation of children will.
>Besides, why would god condemn a child to hell? He's not cruel...
He's God, He does what is Right, if you're even following along with the idea of Him
"would you rather think" what does that have to do with anything.
I'd like to think it's okay for me to walk into the streeat, grab any woman and do whatever I want to her.
It's not though.
More like if he's real half my family and half of the worlds population are going to hell. No matter who they are
Crap mb. Sorry. I think that there's a part where a guy says it's okay his child died because he will see him again in heaven but I'm not 100% sure. BUT I THINK that because God is not a monster they would go to heaven.
OP, I have a question for you that I have struggled with for a very long time, and, I'd like you, as a Christian, to answer it.
How do you reconcile Jesus' being fully human and fully divine?
Claims for his divinity:
1. Romans 10:9
2. Mark 8:27-30
3. John 8:58
4. John 20:28
5. Hebrews 1:8
Et cetera, und so weiter.
How, OP, do you reconcile the imperfection that is the human vessel completely containing the perfection, the aqua vitae that would be God? Nothing can be imperfect and perfect simultaneously, for, if God was imperfect (limited) he wouldn't be God.
ugh, as a jew I feel I shouldn't be helping you whiny idol-worshippers, but okay.
→ has good arguments, and none of them is "herpaderp gays and fetuses"
Nothing, if you keep that shit to yourself. Most people are stupid in general though, and they're just looking for something specific to be stupid over. Religion is one of those standards around which stupidity rallies, and fairly (it certainly doesn't *encourage* open-mindedness) or unfairly takes the blame for that stupidity.
But yeah, you can argue it's just a chicken and egg problem. Are people stupid because of religion, or is religion stupid because of people, etc.
Or I wont and instead go back to lynching, hanging, burning at the stake, stoning, drowning, beheading, and everything everyone did to gay people to get rid of them.
there is nothing good that comes out of religion, in reality.
Sure you can use it for positive effects, temporarily. Like some do in prision / AA meetings. But that is just a form of brainwashing to attempt to solve a problem by not getting to the root of the issue.
If you were raped when you were 4 years old, sure thinking there is a god that cares about you and blah blah blah will make you FEEL BETTER. But what does it ACTUALLY do for you? As opposed to seeking other more LOGICAL means like seeing a therapist. To make you understand certain things about yourself / others / the world (REAL soul-searching)
Religion to me is like teenagers with phones. It's readily avalible anywhere, it takes zero effort, you think it's solves almost all your problems.
When in reality it causes you more problems, you just don't see your problems because you have made yourself delusional.
Your god is a shitty planner man. He has all of eternity to work this shit out and before the first book is done he has to flood the world and start over. Then by the time the old testament is done things are so fucked up he has to send his son to die horribly to fix this shit. He is the fucking Microsoft of gods. If your god appeared before me now and proved he existed, I would go to hell for eternity before I would bow down to that dumbshit.
You're in the wrong place if you can't handle being called stupid. The people in this thread have been REMARKABLY tolerant. You're lucky nobody's called you a faggot or nigger yet. Nigger.
