>BIG employers are going cold on university degrees, leaving students and jobseekers to wonder if their qualifications are worth the investment and extra study. >This week, international publishing house Penguin Random House decided to drop degrees as a requirement for job applicants, following in the footsteps of major consulting firms Ernst and Young and PricewaterhouseCoopers. >The move comes as smaller employers are shifting away from hiring graduates or university students, believing kids are coming out of university with “no real skills” or simply being taught the wrong things. >Meanwhile, soft skills, such as being personable, adaptable, possessing strong digital skills, and adept at time management are being increasingly valued. >Maggie Stilwell, managing partner for talent at Ernst and Young, which did away with academic and education details in its application process, said the new recruiting strategy would “open up opportunities or talented individuals regardless of their background and provide greater access to the profession”. >Graduates were showing up to work with degrees from universities but were “disconnected with the workforce”, she said. >“A number of our members consistently tell us they’re seeing students come out of university or training programs and they might have the academic or theoretical skills, but no skills to work at all. It makes them really hard to employ,” she said. >“General issues are not understanding that a job is about turning up on time every day, not just when you feel like, that it’s about taking direction, and basic things like you’ve got to be well presented and you’ve got to be pleasant.”
Thoughts on this? I already have my master's degree and 7 years of work experience so it doesn't impact me much. I wonder if any of the younger people here have seen a big shift in hiring trends.
>Maggie Stilwell, managing partner for talent at Ernst and Young >big 4 >doesnt even look at your CV if you dont have 3.3 GPA what a hypocrite. Why doesn't she hire high school drop outs at EY if this is really what she believes?
I'm someone who's saving up money to throw my life away. I want to open a comic book/gaming store. Pretty much toss my social life away in pursuit of my passion. The thing is, I don't know how much I'm gonna need to start this beotch up. I've done some research online and everyone says you need 60-100k to start a comicbook store, but to me this seems high. Anyone in a similar boat?
There's a lot that goes into this. From getting and managing staff, to legal issues, to setting up payment processing, etc.
First and foremost is studying your market. Is there a demand/need for your store? Are there any competitors? How are they doing? What can you do different.
Also, location, location, location. You can have a great store, product, and service, but if you set up shop in a shitty side street because the rent is cheap, you can be fucked. Also, it's all about the cash flow.... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>1059780 Friends of a friend bought out store from a chain that went under. They ran it for maybe 2 years until they had to give up.
Rent is killer. There's a market for almost any kind of store but not enough to flush $5K+ per month down the toilet supporting some layabout landlord's coke habit. I wanted to open a shop too and still feel tempted every time I drive by another vacant storefront. Nobody in spending; nobody has been since 2009.
Running a business isn't as hard as some people make it... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>1059856 Oh, store that closed was a game store. I also know a guy who's been successful in comics for 30 years but has downsized to only one store at this point. The market just isn't spending and costs are going up up up.
I live in europe, Got some peoples from ukraine that wants to buy stuffs that they can sell for a good money there. Any idea what can it be? We are talkin about big amounts of used things. I was thinking about old fridges/freezers, TV, Washing machines or old car tires.
>>1059702 If this isn't a troll post you're an idiot. Shkreli is a moron who drew huge attention to himself while simultaneously defrauding his investors out of millions and spending extravagant amounts of money on a fucking wu tang album. He's not someone to idolize
I think we're coming up on tax time, when the media will spend a lot of time telling us what the "market value" of stay at home mom's is. They will probably throw out a figure of around $120k per year.
Meanwhile, they will ignore the husband who's busting his hump to earn $50k per year to support the wife and kids.

>>1059669 even a stupid ass bimbo who gets ad money from companies to post instagram pics wouldn't buy followers, you need to buy legit comments aswell faggot unless you want to lose possible ad money.
>>1059660 Was considering that too Pros, work on your own usually Cons, infractions go on your personal license, hard to just stop and take a piss, I like to drink a lot. A lot of money to get the license unless you have a rig you can borrow. Like most jobs employer wants experience relegating you to shit jobs/runs at first. There are probably more but that was enough to turn me off of the idea for now.
CR England will hire anyone who is infraction free for 3 years and can take a drug test (and they KEEP drug testing you constantly at random)
My brother went to their driving school. One of the best in the country actually. But there are downsides. School is very fast paced. If you fall behind anywhere, they will tell you not to come back tomorrow. His class started on Sunday afternoon with 125 people. By Thursday of the second week (day before you take your CDL A test) there was only 30 people left. 25 of them passed their test the next day.
CR England will pay... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
I forgot to mention, do not go to trucking school on your own. CR England and Swift run their own schools for drivers they are going to employ. Your chances of going to private school and getting a job are less than zero. No company hires drivers without 2 years experience because the insurance for you ends up costing them money every mile you drive. Its why people like CR and Swift pay so poorly. They wont turn a profit on you until month 24+
Do not pay a penny for anything unless there is a written job... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>1059604 I know faggot but i want to know how liberal i can get abojt deductions without getting fukd by the fuds or irs or whatever i know niggers cheat taxes all the time i just dont know how not major money just want like an extra 500-1000 back
>>1059612 dude if your a independent contractor you shouldn't be paying hardly any taxes. Dig through gas station trash to find cash gasoline receipts. Write off anything possible till you have zero federal tax burden.
