Give up, class mobility is a myth
Had the same thought myself.... WTF is whitechapel road.
I have to assume it's simply american culture trickling down to lesser cultures; kind of like how you'll see kids running around africa today with Fonzi t-shirts.
Investing is just guessing, right? This guy's hedgefund went from like 100 million dollars to 8 billion and back to 300 million and then 600 million. Surely a guy as smart as him knows that he's guessing?
I don't know if there's a holding time limit cut off before trading becomes investing but I don't care. And I nkow that Investment bank traders are market makers.
I made this topic because I watched videos where he gives his opinion on macro and big picture stuff. Obviously he's smart but is he just mistaken in trying to convert his smartness in to reliable investment / trading decisions?
I need to vent /biz/. My family owns a rice farm here in the US. We're a small business that harvests rice for retail and emergency relief. The relief business is a good one, as it is through government contracting.
Government bids are straight forward, lowest price wins the bid or portion of the bid they solicit for.
Did I mention the part where we're a for profit small business? Over the last 4 years though, non-profits have been crowd funding their way into buying rice farms and competing against us for government contracts. Rice isn't expensive,...

>bloated CEO salaries
generate a lot of income taxes. Personal tax rates are much higher than the corporate tax rate.
As an American, I'd rather see your marginally surviving company driven out of business so that a highly-paid successful executive can run it better. It's win-win.
Why can't you sell to rice-a-roni, or to India, or something? There's turmoil on the foreseeable forecast and the yuppies have the momentum. TPP may open something up. Sorry, if you already exhausted these avenues.
Sad times :(
How do I move to la NYC or Miami for my music career?
I know it's hopeless I literally want to just go to a big city be poor for a few years and have my dreams crushed.
>I know it's hopeless I literally want to just go to a big city be poor for a few years and have my dreams crushed.
if this is you ultimate goal, just hitchhike there. that is a sure fired way to have a shitty soul crushing time
Do your homework re neighborhoods and rental rates. Save up enough for 3-6 months of rent.
Move there, get apartment, start looking for job that can accommodate (minor) scheduling changes (a bitch, these are in demand, especially in LA).
Once in job for 6 months, re-evaluate it and current living situation. Move/switch jobs if necessary.

>minimum order is 50,000 units
yeah, nah man. i wanna start out small in case it fails
China might not be a bad idea. Especially if you are calling it "smug".
That way, you can make a deal on the tears of the children who are forced to assemble apple products all day.
Throw in some water from San Francisco, and you'll be all set
I have a sole propiertorship in California and had a few questions. Firstly, how hard would it be to change the name of my business? Would it be easier to file a whole new business and just change the name on the bank account?
Secondly, how hard would it be to convert a Sole Prop to an S-Corp or LLC? Would that also require another filing?
what do people want these days

I need something to do while my business is slow. I have a home service business that makes good money when I have customers, but it's fucking slow as shit right now. I've had like 1 customer this last month.
I have 10 - 15 free hours every week, and I need the xtra money. I am open to suggestions.
How do people who started with nothing turn into successes
I don't fucking understand
Hey /biz/, was wondering if you can give me some advice.
I signed a contract with my university. I thought I was going to get more money through channels, but turned out a bit short. By the end of this semester, I'll be at a five grand deficit for my college expenses, which is basically my housing bill. I applied there with financial hardship as through their contract: (http://www.housing.wisc.edu/documents/residence-halls-contract-15-16.pdf). However, they have denied me even though I have legitimately expressed being unable to pay for it (I have a job, can't...

Free bump because fuck colleges, especially residence halls
Habbening memer checking in.
I realize that from a finance perspective there isn't necessarily cause for panic quite yet.
But habbeners tend to view things from an economics angle rather than finance. And theres a lot of economic reason to believe that we are tetering on the edge of a crash.
The finance world can adjust to cheap oil. The real world economies that stock exchanges exist in probably cannot.
One of the only booming industries in the US was oil, but the US industry isn't likely to be profitable under $30. Since saudi production is $9/bbl, the US Industry will mostly likely liquidate. But where is that capital going? What's the next bull market? Biotech, maybe. We'll see if that pans out in the next couple days, but I have doubts. Green energy could probably boom if oil wasn't so cheap.
The reason we are in this predicamint is because the Federal Reserve's monetary policy encourages these booms and busts. The fed has kept rates absurdly low for years. The only way they could stop free fall in 2008 was to cause an unnatural amount of speculation. This gives the illusion of growth. Cheap money eats into savings to fuel bubbles. You can only do this for so long. Eventually there are no savings left. Thats the situation we are in right now. We've burned through all of our savings on boom & bust markets. The jig is up and now we have to face the reality that resources in our economy have been atrociously allocated for decades.
Not as fucked as europe though. The US and Asia can probably weather this. They'll come out beaten and scared, but they'll make it. IMO Europe is going to really suffer to its core in the coming years. The continent could emerge fundementally different.
Nope should I? BTC will probably surge if QE4 happens. More so if the Euro goes belly up. But really any currency that isn't being devalued by desparate governments is going to look pretty damn attractive
Fuck my shit up, I'm about to do some serious job hunting.
I am mainly interested in RF, hardware design, network architecture, and willing to accept QA positions if that's how I get my foot in the door.
Ask someone who was almost ripped off by a fake Forex prop trading firm anything.
Give me a minute, typing it up now.
Okay, so some asshole from Daily FX forums inboxes me saying that he liked the trades I posted and wanted to know if I'd be interested in managing 500K - 1M pounds. I said sure, but that I wasn't comfortable with my profitability as of yet.
Six more months go by and he asks if I'd be interested in managing 150K instead to get comfortable, I say that I'm still not where I need to be. This is where they offer me their 'educational program', which I offer to pay for by writing site content.
Well, I wrote them a few blog posts and now they're being quite elusive about how much I might manage, how long it will take to get there, and how exactly to do it. But oddly enough my 'mentor' did mention that other people pay him 1000 pounds a month for 5 hours of mentoring per week.
At that point I decided they were looking to fuck me.
