So after being a grade A fuckup most of my life, I got my act together and have a decent job.

I'm now eligible for their 401k, and having never had one before, I'm intimidated by the mountain of forms and jargon. Anyone have any beginner's advice for these things? I think they fully match the first 3% I put in, and then match half of 4-5%.

Oh also, I've got about 15k in student loans I'm trying to grind away at, if that changes anything.

>>
>>1436074
Just do the minimum for full match since it's free money. Since you might need money for other things you shouldn't worry about building it up so fast.
>>
>>1436074
Depending on the interest rate on your student loans, that may affect your decision to put a certain amount of money toward paying off the debt or putting it into a 401K. Another factor is what your salary is and how much money you need to live.

Assuming you make far than enough to cover your living expenses and side aside cash for emergencies (health, broken car, etc.), this is what I would recommend:

1. For certain, put 3% of your salary into the 401K because the company will match it dollar for dollar....

Note: Ideally, a diversified fund should be one that has investments in all sort of industries across a lot of countries. Investing in the S&P 500 is pretty good diversification but you're entirely concentrated on investing in the U.S., whose stock market relative to other markets is rather overpriced.

If you're curious, compare the holdings of the Vanguard 500 Index Fund (VOO) against the Vanguard Total World Stock Fund (VT). You can get this information from the quarterly updates for the...

I interned at a medium sized finance/accounting firm in my first year of study. I asked for a job there after I got very positive feedback from them and went way beyond what was expected of me. They got back to me with an offer.

My ego is a little inflated from this because I am the first of my friends to get an internship let alone a part time job in my industry of choice.

My question: is first year experience (internships and part time work that will hopefully continue in the years to come) going to set me up for the top tier finance like IB, trading for an...

was it in IB? was it in a HF? IB looks for internships in IB, HF looks for internships in HF. so if it was more of an accounting firm, it surely doesn't hurt your resume. but not as much as you'd think.

try to use that experience to get an internship next summer in a field that you're actually aiming for.

Just started working in Korea. I'm making 2.6m won / month or almost $2400 USD. I think I will be able to save approx. $1500 USD / month over the next year.

I'm from Canada with a weak dollar currently so I'm actually making around $2000 CAD / month.

I'm 23, have no debt and no assets. What should I do with it? Should I just switch it back into CAD as I get it and take advantage of the exchange rate? or is there something smarter?

You know how there are 24 hours gyms right? And that as a member of said gym you get a key card or 24 hour access (obviously).

Well, my idea is this. Its like a 24 hour gym, except its basically a 24 hour video game arcade/entertainment place that is full of w/e arcade games people play (like those racing simulators), table top games and entertainment.

They can be placed in suburbs, so people can have 24 hours of glorious fun without needing to pay a cent aside from their fortnightly membership fee.

What could possibly go wrong, /biz/?

Arcades have been dead in the US since the late 1990s. Initial startup costs are astronomical. The market is nostalgic millennials. Without a liquor license you won't make any money at all. Maintenance costs for gaming machines are horrible. Sanitation practices for gaming consoles will be awful. Some people abuse controllers. You will have members who literally will not leave the area. Why would I pay 40 dollars a month to use someone else's semen-encrusted gaming gear when I can pay 200 dollars for a permanent console and my own games that will last longer and that...

Did pretty much what you're thinking of doing. Wife did most of the articles of incorporation and stuff like that (she had a decent amount of experience doing such things). Best advice I can give on the "business" side of things is to consistently use quickbooks. It's been great for handling the bid all the way to the invoice. So I'd say get some quick books training and research what legal entity you want to be (s-corp, llc, sole proprietorship). Feel free to ask any one questions.

What type of work do you do?

Can a corporation be a LLC (Limited liability company) or are they two seperate things?
4 replies and 1 images submitted. Click here to view.
>>
They are separate.
A LLC is basically a partnership that has elected to be treated with Limited Liability as permitted by state law.
A corporation is an entity created by shareholders to perform some business.

A LLC has members
A corporation has shareholders.
>>
>>1435708
That clears that part up... Im also wondering if the LLC can chose how it wants to be taxed , it can still be taxed like a corporation yes? Seems very confusing and blurred to me.
>>
>>1435712
A LLC is taxed as a partnership, with all income passing through to its members to be taxed at the individual level.
A corporation is taxed as a corporation with income taxed at the corporate level, unless it elects S Corp status, in which case, all income is taxed at the personal level as passed through income.

Hi /biz/

I know ETH is a mess. I dont like it either, but its time to buy. This is the big bubble. Probably 3-4X in the next 3 weeks.

fundamental reasons:

united/productive community (regardless of ethics)
LOTS of ETHBTC shorts and many haters
fear of holding BTC due to exchange hack
Coinbase adding ETH wallets
ETC activity held down by fear for the next month

Technical analysis

We've completed a 6-month long bubble shape. We have now broken out on high volume. The price has held and we are climbing steadily.

I hate...

I think it will climb as ETH holders diversify, but it will be suppressed compared to ETH gains because of uncertainty.

When the ETH bubble pops, I predict there will be self-doubting ETH nazis that repent for their bailout bullshit and support ETC. The ETC price should skyrocket when this ETH bubble pops.
