When I was younger and more stupid I thought it'd be a good idea to study literature because it was "what I loved doing". Now I'm 25 and on a dead end job, but I have the opportunity to go back to school and study something worthwhile. My question is, considering I have already wasted 7 years of my life, what would be a good career to persue where my age would be less of a problem?
>>1015333 Can confirm we have some older dudes running through my uni's CS undergrad program. Even though I'm still just an undergrad from what I can tell it seems to be a stable career where you can make a decent salary
I would keep your eye out for used equipment on Craigslist like a trailer, commercial mower etc. starting out, your only means of marketing is going to be word of mouth so be good to what initial clients you get and maybe make a small lawn sign and see if you can put it somewhere in their yards. Also put a sign on your vehicle. Then advertise in a small local newspaper or coupon distribution paper and work your way towards commercial clients.
>>1015293 Mow yards for free to start, once they get hooked then start charging. I would find shaggy yards and just go to work. They will appreciate your can do attitude and offer you sweet tea and then you have a customer for life
>>1015287 I didn't do accounting in college (Econ), but got a job as a trainee accountant after that. I'm in Northern Ireland, so you don't have to do accounting in college to become an accountant.
1. Steady job 2. 6 months 3. Didn't even think about it, really, just wanted a lot of money, a steady job, and not to have to work very hard 4. The dullness and pointlessness of the work, the cubicle, and the fact that they occasionally expect you to work 12 hour days and weekends coming up to deadlines,... Comment too long. I was burnt out for a while, but it all paid off - don't give up.
Majored in accounting/passed CPA, endured a few years at Big 4, transitioned to controller position at well-funded early stage tech co, and now just recently started my own consulting firm providing transaction advisory services to private equity firms engaged in M&A. Annualized I'm on track to pull 315k NI my first year solo.
Always keep your eyes peeled for ways to apply your technical accounting background to finance. Also, consider MBA if you're still young, MBA/CPA combo... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
What the fuck do you even do as an accountant? I did 2 years of it and got offered a job to do some accounting for a small business but I don't even understand what i'd be doing. It's just tracking transactions, inventory and sales and then putting it all together right? How is this a thing that takes more than a few hours for a small company? Like if the company I work for only does about 4-5 million in service revenue a year how is that even difficult to do, I could just get away with doing monthly income statements and balance sheets and then using that data... Sup /biz/, i am new here, and aside degree threads i think this board can be a lot usefull especialy for business owners/entrepreneurs.
So i will start a valuation study of a company that i want to create, using the book in the pic as a guide, i think i will post the progress here in this thread so more people can evaluate and discuss valuation related issues. But first, for business or economics people here, some one know this book? any suggestion?
My mom has an ebay account with about 800 items sold at 100% profitable feedback. What's the easiest thing to source profitably? For now my budget for inventory is $500.
She sells items that net profits of usually the 5-25 dollar range. Clothes, books, dvds, board games, garage store trash. The flipping community is pretty secretive and full of scammers shilling e-books who claim huge profits from freight auctions and stuff like that. Where should I be focused when it comes to inventory and sourcing? I already have a great setup for shipping.
Tell us about your experiences. What field are you in? How much are you making? What is the most difficult thing about owning a small business? What is your advice to others whj want to own their own business etc.
I was in absorbed into a partnership to own 50% of a retail electronics and gaming store but since have left and started my own electronics/computer repair store. My best advise is stay AWAY from franchising unless you have a lot of cash to throw into it and want to be your own boss and still have to play by someone else rules.
I make shit tier wages right now because we are in our first year. Before I was making roughly 60k only working about 10 hours a week.
Do you think e-fame can only be a good thing, or do I get too influenced due to seeing many media types? Do you have a LinkedIn with picture? Do you have publicly available Facebook and twitter accounts with the required liberal opinions repeatedly stated ("lol, Donald trump is dumb").
I have none if those but I wonder whether or not I should sell out.
I bought a home last year for $128k in Las Vegas, NV. Now the home is valued at over $150k. I did a 15 year mortgage at 3.5% interest and I've been dumping money towards the principal. I have 13 years and a couple months to go before I pay off the mortgage.
This is my first home and I've been getting different answers about property taxes. A buddy says it goes way up after you pay off your mortgage, another buddy says it doesn't.
How much will I be looking to pay monthly after the mortgage gets paid off. I hear 1% of the home value over the course... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>1015135 In Nevada property taxes are paid yearly and directly to the county Assessors office. Your rates for the next year will be published in the Review-Journal (Which would be the paper of record) either this month or in the next couple of months. After they are published you will have some time to protest the decision if the assessed value of the property is incorrect.
Considering you only paid $125k I assume you are living in North Las Vegas?
>>1015117 thinking about it now, I would be content to just live in complete isolation without need to concern over getting by. realistically though, I figure I'd be tempted to do at least one show of excess like a party.
Revenge? I don't really have anyone specific to be vengeful toward. Just society because I'm a jaded, bitter fuck.
So basically, driving a lamborghini (or other supercar) with an obnoxious license plate. Instagram/twitter where I piss people off (by posting facts, because apparently the truth is racist and bigoted). For the most part, just make people jealous and feel bad for being poor.
Pro tip: 9 times out of 10, the only reason someone is poor is because they're retarded and refuse to learn how to manage money. But you gotta go out and buy the... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
