You should look for otc pump and dumps and short them on day 3 or 4 or whatever promotion is pumping them. Use a basic stock scanner and find stocks that are liquid (more than 100,000 volume traded) and trading between $.01 and $5 dollars that have gained more than 5 percent for the day.

Look for huge gains in an iceberg pattern and watch for sell off signals before shorting the stock and buying to cover right around half the price between the initial and pump price.

What's the best trade you've ever made, /biz ?

I bought 500 shares of 3par in spring 2010 just before a dell vs. HP bidding war. Bought in at $10 and sold out around $29.

Once had a neighbor who was retired at 35 or so. He told me he bought 10 grand of Monster Beverage at 30 cents per share. Don't know when he sold out but they're selling at $44 a share today after a number of splits.

Okay /biz/, I need your help.

I'm in college now, and doing pretty well in classes.

I have been a friendless unapproachable autist for my entire life. While searching for jobs and internships lately, I have been hit with the realization that soft skills are more important than skills relevant to my field.

How can I quickly get better at doing chitchat and not sperging out? How can I con people into thinking that I am a normal person and giving me a job?

How do I prevent myself from a lifetime of burger flipping?

What happens when you "sperg out"? Do you just become quiet? Do you ramble about abstractions tangentially related to the subject at hand?

Are you the talky talky autist who doesn't realize saying "you're not as fat as you use to be" is not a compliment or the silent creepy autist who people judge because you "don't make the effort"?

What does /biz/ think about Russia?

Lately I have been looking at Russian ETFs -- mainly RSX -- because Russia seems promising given a Trump presidency.

We all know that Trump wants to be friendly with Russia, and that he is likely to end at least sanctions which Obama placed via executive order.
This will help the country overall and the major companies, mostly energy and banking, which these ETFs hold stakes in.

The other big factor would be the price of energy(oil/gas) and various resources such as nickel, which we can't really predict, but I...

You have absolutely no idea how comparitive advantage works or what it means. 'No comparitive advantage' is mathematically impossible.

I'll give you a nugget to begin to work from comparitive advantage is created by having the lowest opportunity cost in creating a certain product.

If a country has no competitive advantage, the market will devalue its currency until it gains one.

Protectinism is a bad thing because it gives consumers (and businesses) the disadvantages of a lower currency, without giving exporting businesses the advantage of a lower currency.

What are some 2 year degrees/trade schools that can have me taking home ~$3K a month on a 40 hour work week? Everything I come across that makes that much with little to no schooling requires a ton of overtime and physical work to get to $3K a month goal. Looking at quick 2 year programs offered at the college here. Besides trucking, I could do:

IT (all of the good jobs will probably be taken by oversaturated bachelor degree graduates)
Aviation Maintenance (not a lot of job openings around though)
Business Management (supervisor at a factory/distribution center)
Respiratory Therapist (i have no idea but it seems to be in demand according to Indeed)
Radiology Technician (give cancer treatments)
Nursing (ER/ICU)
Funderal Services (hard to get into, but great job security once you're in)

Bump.

I'm thinking of either Radiologist Technology or Respiratory Therapy.

They both start about the same, but I think respiratory has a higher ceiling. But, respiratory is moving to bachelor degree required instead of Associate's. Radiology isn't. Both have a good job market. Not as good as nursing, but I still should be able to find a job easily.

They both require an Associate's degree before applying for the program, so I figure I could get a Business Management degree. That way, I could still fall back to applying for supervisor...

Nothing unless you're using a fee-free system like Robinhood

Let's say your broker requires $9/trade. You open a trade, you later close it. $18 total. You had invested $482. $18 is 3.73% of $482. That $482 worth of stock needed to rise by 3.73% just for you to *break even*

Since commissions/fees are generally fixed, trading with small amounts of money puts you at a disadvantage right out of the gate

The key word is 'spend'.

Risk is the mothers milk of capitalism.

A lot of entrepreneurial endeavours wouldn't exist, as people would likely be more conservative with money. So many transactions you wouldn't consider 'responsible' would lead to a deduction of growth in many parts of the economy.

My guess is that the cost of living would go down, luxuries would increase in value due to smaller supply. You would live a more wholesome, but less colourful life.

What does /biz/ think of modern office culture?

I work at a significant food enterprise's marketing department, and have worked at a range of other companies and start ups in my career. I've never had to wear a suit and tie to work. Some common themes:

There's a thing in Thailand that the more a person says how spiritually acclaimed they are, the less they are respected by the average joe.

Not to mention his stake in VRX.

Though his CMG bet seem to be paying off.

It's called the sunken cost fallacy.

Being rich doesn't mean you are immune to emotional investing

352 KB,
I'm a single teacher, age 25. Annual pay is $58K per year. I pay into Social Security (6.2%), CalPERS (7%), and have the ability to contribute $18K per year into a Roth 403(b), $18K per year into a Roth 457(b), and $5,500 into a Roth IRA.

Contributing the max would not hamper my ability to live since I get $20K per year in tax free veterans disability compensation and have rental income of $10K per year.

Questions:

1) Don't you wish you were me?
2) What funds should I put my accounts in?
3) Is there such thing as saving TOO MUCH for retirement?
4)...

Piss off you smug bastard. Max out your altcoin contributions and you'll have a great retirement.

Mate a lot of those pension fund things have been giving members massive haircuts on entitlements because their payout ratio is unsustainable.

You are getting sucked in to pay for some. Boomers pension but they will not be there for you when you retire.

Sorry, but please look at it closely.

I'm vested so my benefits can't be changed. The new hires - as usual - will get screwed.
