Arisia is next weekend. I was excited about going but then the schedule came out and many of the panels seem cringeworthy. It sounds more like a Tumblr con than anything else! Still, a con is a con, so I'll go. What are your thoughts on the con? What cosplays are you planning for it? etc.
>>8805747 >tumblrcon Have you never been to Arisia or something? The con is run by a bunch of 40 something year old nerds who like academic panels... if you're going for the panel topics, you're attending for the wrong reason.
>>8805787 I actually went last year, I don't remember there being as many stupid panels, but I could be wrong. And yeah, I noticed the crowd there was older. Educational panels can be interesting, as long as it doesn't go into feminist/racism/something-ism.
I've been on a knitting kick lately and would really like to see what other people have made! Has anyone knitted or crocheted pieces for cosplay, or do you make your own lolita accessories? Cute patterns and inspiration pics would be appreciated!
I was wondering, how do japanese citizens (all categories) view lolita? I know it's like here by the fact that some like it and think it's ok to be eccentric and some don't understand/don't like it/... or even hate on it, buti was wondering what kind of stereotypes they put on it. Like here in Europe if a girl dress all black at school, idiots are gonna assume she eats cockroaches, pray Satan and shit. I heard at some point on a translated 2chan discussion that they viewed lolita like we view emos (cutters), i also saw somewhere that lolitas were seen as... Comment too long. Its still weird there too by majority. Japanese arent too vocal about what they think in real life besides whispers to friends. most in Tokyo will ignore the existence because its the japanese way but a few may just stare without a word. Some in Harajuku will think its cute and others in other areas will think theyre fatties or ugly.
Lolita is generally seen as something for spoiled teenagers with a princess complex and people are expected to grow out of it when they become adults and get a job/get married. Having weird self-involved hobbies as an adult is looked down on even harsher than it is in the west.
Not sure if it has the same sexual/daddy issues connotation over there, though. I'd also imagine that since Christianity is more of an exotic aesthetic preference that a religion in Japan, there's not as much scaremongering about goths and gothic imagery.
I saw this Rainy Day Lolita dress up game for the first time and though it would be nice to share. >http://www.dolldivine.com/lolita-in-the-rain.php

In your honest opinion, how long do you think lolita will last? I want to get serious about it and start buying, coording, etc. But I see how dead /cgl/ and alot of blogs are now, it almost feels like a barren hobbie. Is it worth getting into at this point? Give me some hope, but really just give me your honest opinion.
>>8803491 Honestly? If you love it, go for it. I don't think the community is dying, people are just scattered across so many different platforms that it's hard to get a good idea of how active the wider community is. A lot of people use Facebook groups as well which is almost impossible to keep track of.
The community is probably more active than ever. Do you have a local comm or anything?
>>8803494 Forgot to say, I don't know how long Lolita will last, but I don't think we'll see a death in the next 10 years, at least. It's a pretty strong fashion and the brands that cater to it are putting out more than ever.
