Is it that time of year already?
Welcome visitors from other boards. Please direct all your costume and Halloween shenanigans questions here.
What are some good decoration items for a witch hat? I'm either going to make my own hat, or just buy a premade one, decorate the edges with black lace, and add some organza ribbon.
Some witch hat inspiration, please?
Hello Batty had pretty cute one that she said was from Spirit, so I often keep an eye out for it. No dice so far.
I'm doing a medical themed shironuri coord and I managed to snag a real vintage candy striper pinafore to wear with it. I'm so excited. I go to an art school so I wanted to go really OTT this year with my costume
I just finished making my costume! Now the question is: To add blood or no? I wanted to go for a creepy vibe with my makeup and stuff, but I'm not sure if I want to mess up my creation by staining it with fake blood. I made the apron to possibly splatter blood on instead of the dress itself... what do you think, seagulls?
Also, suggestions for accessories/shoes/wig are welcome.
It's beautiful anon! Looks so clean, I wish I have those skills.
I'm too afraid of letting you put blood on it after you spent so long on it, maybe just bloodless guro elements like eyepatches etc?
LOVE it anon.
Don't blood splatter it though, it looks good enough without!
Did you use those patterns from Gosu Rori or did you draft it yourself?
Are you also going to wear a headdress?
I'd go for red shoes, white otks or knee socks.
For a wig, I would go for a bob style with curls so you can show off the neckline, and still look cute.
White or red bag, maybe a big syringe as a prop? Not too many accessories, let the piece itself stand out.
i've already had one response, but im curious if anyone else has ideas for colour schemes before i get started.
Looks all right. Your hem's uneven though. I'm guessing you didn't let your circle skirt hang for a day before hemming. Also move the buttons around on the right side because the upper placket isn't laying properly. And in the future make sure your thread tension is correct so your seams aren't all pulling like they are now. It'll be fine for Halloween though. I think the fake blood would be a nice touch -- there is fake blood that is more washable than others (stuff made for theatre especially), so look around.
I know greasepaint is usually recommended when doing colored facepaint, does the name imply that it goes on fairly thickly or can it be applied lightly? Or are there any recommended alternatives for doing white paint?
Thank you so much! I was thinking some doll-like makeup with an eyepatch would look creepy and cool.
I drafted the pattern myself for this, based on a military uniform pattern from McCall's. Once I started making it, though, I actually only used a couple pieces from the original pattern and made most of them myself. I'm no professional though, which is why it's still a little wonky!
Red shoes and knee socks sounds like a good combination! I also have a bloody syringe charm that I might wear somewhere on me as an accessory.
I'm going to try to make a pill-shaped handbag today to go with this!
This was a rush job, made it in about 18-24 hours over three days while I had access to my sewing machine. So I definitely didn't have time for letting the skirt hang (didn't know that trick though - thank you!).
The buttons don't look super great on the dressform because it's not as busty as I am in real life. Still I think it could lay a little better - I'll see if I can fix that. Thanks for the suggestions!
Don't hurt the dress. Maybe white/ red long or flared gloves like the tf2 medic with blood stains if you really want blood. Face mask is a must. Look up old medical devices like a fleam and maybe put blood on that
You definitely don't need "grease paint" when doing facepaint! There are lots of professional paints that are easy to work with and readily available.
I personally like water activated paints, although many professional brands do offer creme paints (like Ben Nye). Creme paints will stay sort of tacky all day if you don't seal them and will come off on anything you touch. (Water based paints will come off when they get wet, but when they set they are dry to the touch).
Personally I like Snazaroo, Ruby Red (although if you're doing an all white face, those wouldn't be the ones I recommend), Wolfe FX, Diamond FX, Global, TAG, Mehron Paradise, Kryolan, and Cameleon.
Apply these water based paints by wetting your cake (less water is better, you can always add more), then activating the paint with a sponge (or a brush, but find a kabuki brush for a smooth application.) If you're using a sponge, stipple/pat to apply (don't smear it).
So, I decided on dressing up as a Trevor Brown nurse, but I'm having a lot of trouble on the actual nurse uniform, apron is no problem, it is just the actual dress. I can't seem to find any patterns where it has that button-up-ish to the neck thing, or any dress to buy that is actually similar-aside from one lingerie-ish dress that is kinda there but ehh.
Any tips on where to get a devil onesie along the lines of pic related? I can't find anything on ebay because I'm unable to sort out the kigurumi...
Yeah, backtracking gave me that too /:
I'd be fine with somethig similar, provided it's not... Pic related, or those black kigurumis.
Anyone got a good tutorial for making prosthetics like this? Latex in a mold or something?
in b4 "just buy them", the seller has dropped off the face of the earth
Well its going to dark. Last year we made masks with that and were half-blind. We dropped a lot of candy when we handed them out and when we trick or treated we kind of just faced the candy giver's general direction instead of looking.
Looking at the prosthetic on the model, looks like you could get away with either using latex paint and coloring over it, or molding the edges with clay or something and gluing that to yourself. Using the tissue paper trick would be helpful here to get the ripped/flayed skin right on the edges.
Yeah, I'm trying to find some bat/raven/bone decorations on ebay to put on my hat. I think I might put some roses on it, as well, but I can't really find anything decoration-wise that's big enough/doesn't look fucking retarded.
Perhaps instead of staining that beautiful cosplay, you can instead go for something like a creepy medical personnel. Or just make/buy yourself a plague doctor mask (pic related) and see how it would look with your cosplay.
Theyre pretty good depending on which ones you get. Theyre either a hit or miss on some, really good on others. Their prices are pretty OK. They have their own TB so the English site is pretty legit
I've managed to see some photos of it irl and the costume I'm after seems fine, but the the color of the boots to go with it are character inaccurate. Do you know if they accept customizations at all?
Posted this somewhere else, but I'll post it here as well..
Simple witch coord, colors are mainly black with red/tiny gold accents. Making a similar witch hat to the picture with black lace edging, red roses, some organza, maybe a tiny gold chain to link around the top in a drooping manner?
Not sure which pair of shoes to pick, and not sure what to do for legwear. I don't have the exact pointed toe shoes, but it's similar-- laced up oxford pumps in black with a skinny heel, but with a reptile/scaled texture.
Working on a Sith costume, and the armor is giving me some fits. I've repainted some motocross armor and for some reason the new paint keeps chipping off at every opportunity, even after three layers of coverage, to expose the plastic underneath. Should I use a spray varnish on it, and if so, any tips on using that stuff? I've never varnished anything before, not even Warhammer 40K minis, so any professional assistance would be welcome.
I'm super flattered anon! Unfortunately I'm not in a place right now to take commissions. I made this while visiting my parents' house in the US -- I live in a tiny apartment in Japan most of the time. I'm bringing my sewing machine back with me, but I won't have my studio like I used to :(
>This was a rush job, made it in about 18-24 hours over three days while I had access to my sewing machine. So I definitely didn't have time for letting the skirt hang
You can attach weights to the hem to make it adjust faster if you're ever pressed for time.
Can anyone give me some recommendations for vampire teeth? I know they sell a bunch of different kinds in stores and ebay but is there something I should be looking for in specific
Not that anon, but you can buy them online. I've only ever seen that brand in halloween shops like spirit. They're really, really good though. I have the subtle ones and not only are the reusable and easy to mould, they totally look realistic.
I live in a pretty big city and the halloween shops kind of pop up everywhere lol.
Im hoping there will be one up at the mall already, or that maybe I'll find one at target.
Thank you tho
Hey guys. I need some help with leather.
I'm being Ash from the Evil Dead series. He has a harness/belt across his chest and I've found some metal rings and leather strips to use.
I need to loop the leather through the ring and secure the leather to itself (pic related)
What's the best way to do this? Sewing seems tough. An adhesive perhaps?
adhesive probably would not hold well, depending on the leather. your best bet would be to punch holes through the leather (you could use a hammer and nail if you have nothing else meant for the job), then stitch it together through those holes with carpet thread and a large needle.
It'll take a bit of effort, but it will come out a lot better (both in looks and strength) than gluing it.
Here's a picture of me. I'm not into anime, star wars, or dr. who
I'm 6'2" white and have auburn red hair. I have a beard (sorta) but can shave if necessary. I also have a bit of a head start so I could lose 5lbs before Halloween hits.
Ideas I've considered:
- South park Character
- Mystery Men character
- El-p (the rapper)
- Some Hey Arnold character
Let me know if you have any serious suggestions. Thanks
I'd sooner be Travis Touchdown from No More Heroes, but the parties I'm going to would not get either of those references. It's going to be 2 parties with pretty normal people who would get some movie references, and then I might go out to the bars with friends.
vs dressing up as someone NO ONE gets, after several idiotic guesses, and then a look of confused disappointment. All after spending $$$ and time on the costume. Listen, I'd love to go as The Shoveler, but I don't know anyone who likes Mystery Men as much as me.
Look up tutorials on how to make fangs out of fake nails. Much cheaper than scarecrow fangs. Basically you just cut plain white nails into points and put them on your teeth with denture glue. Did this last year for a production of Dracula at my community theatre, it worked really well
everyone worth their salt knows that paint sticks way better to uneven surfaces, that's why primer has a slight grittiness to it. you should at the very least go over it with fine grit sandpaper by hand and the results will be obvious.
I'm going as grimdark Red Riding Hood
Could this rain cape +blood combo be interesting, or would it just look fucking retarded?
Got it. I'll give it a go. Thanks for the advice.
looks like people have had success with scuffing the material first.
If it doesn't work, There's always fabric
hot topic sometimes carries them but i don't blame you if you don't wanna go in there. most Halloween/party stores (spirit, party city, etc) should have them but if you can't find them, you can get them on amazon for like...$12 (i think they are prime eligible)
You can maybe try finding that interface that is essentially made up of foam and fabric (the fabric store I go to has it in their interface section anyway). Like some halloween costumes, there are parts that is made up of the outer fabric sewn with the foam layer. Get yourself a basic ball pattern and enlarge the size dramatically, add some holes and you're good.
Youre better off sanding it at this point. Primer, then color, and if you're going black I'd recomend plastidip. It gives a nice matte black finish and a rubberized coating to seal.
Does anyone have any famous movie or tv show suggestions for a guy and girl? My bf and I dunno what to do. I was looking into Scott Pilgrim/Ramona and Pulp Fiction but I don't look good in non natural hair colors + he doesn't know how he feels about wearing a suit at a sweaty college party :\
Pic unrelated, just thought it was really funny/clever lol
saw a couple dressed as these two from Parks and Recs at the last con i went to. they were super cute together.
!!! Oh wow, I totally forgot about this episode! People have pointed out we look kinda similar before so I was thinking of doing them, but I wasn't sure how to pull them off until you pointed this out. Thank you anon :') Pic is us hehe
Comic Sans-anon, you can get a basic full face plastic mask at a michaels, as well as some paperclay (also at michaels) and sculpt the shape over the mask. Make sure to cut larger eyeholes. For the black eyes, get some black stockings, cut them up, and glue them behind the eyeholes on the mask. Paint the white dot where you want it.
PS: are you SoCal local? Undyne's on my cosplay list ;w;
Any wood workers? Suggestions on material.
Found this amazing dress at Goodwill for $2 so I bought it right away for Halloween.
I'm not sure what to do about hair and accessories though? I have a short bob so any sort of elaborate Victorian hairstyle is out unless I get a wig.
Okay, anyone know how to make a cheap muscle suit or anything to punt under spandex to make someone look muscly? I'm supposed to be Batman, I'm definitely not too fat to dress as him....but I am far too lithe. Like, I'm more Spider-Man than Batman, ya know? So I need help. What can I do to look buffer for a really cheap price?
What would be a decent costume for a tall dude with a bit of a belly? Also any couple costumes suggestions would be lovely.
We were thinking power ranger zentai suits but it's a bit too form fitting.
or you can be 2D if you decide you don't want to do lolita
Got in most of my Velma stuff for Halloween, minus the skirt, and my oranges don't match. The sweater is more of an intense orange compared to the socks. The seller says that the sweater is a pure cashmere blend. Any ideas as to what I could use to possibly darken the colour of the fabric to make it closer to the socks?
I dont have much personal experience with tea dying, sorry. But I know its not so much about which brand you use, as it is which blend, tea comes in a rainbow of different colors, so maybe something like oolong or tisane would work here?
I'd say look up tutorials for tea dying, you'll probably find lots of helpful shit for the right tea to use.
I want a belt like the one pictured here. So it has to be overly long and weathered with a subtle pattern to it. Any idea what I should be searching for?
Don't. The reason you throw out contacts after a year is not purely wear and tear, its also bacteria buildup. if you've worn them once, then left them sat for year, they're still dangerous. It's not worth it just to be cheap.
You won't go blind/sustain any sort of eye injury from circle lenses as long as you clean them, replace the solution daily, use the right solution, get them from reputable sellers like Honeycolor, and make sure you got the right base curve and water %.
Most of these reports of people getting eye injuries from circle lenses got lenses from shady stores which sell defective lenses or lenses that weren't approved by the distributor's FDA.
I've done it before. It works, but it will also limit the range of motion for the skin/muscles beneath the glued spots and hurt a little when you tear the fabric off. The spirit gum residue will also take a bit of washing with warm water and soap to get off. When you apply the spirit gum, it will also feel warm.
I think most things about people hurting their eyes with lenses stem from improper use, not the lenes themselves. Inexperienced people buy them from some random store and don't know how to use them.
>wash your hands before putting them in
>soak them in solution before wearing
>don't reuse solution
>don't wash them in water/saliva
>don't wear lenses for too long
>keep them clean/clean them properly
>throw out lenses when they expire
>don't stack plano lenses over perscription ones
>don't fucking share them with others
Probably some other ones I forgot, but most issues with lenses come from these
This year I'm going as Donald Trump for Halloween and need ideas for something to carry candy in. I thought of a money sack but that's not creative enough for me.
>don't reuse solution
>don't wash them in water/saliva
>keep them clean/clean them properly
>don't stack plano lenses over prescription ones
I refuse to believe there are adults stupid enough to do these.
So ageplay is so mainstream now that Spirit carries this shit. Who the hell would wear this?
This is going to be a weird request but I'm a guy and I need a witches costume for Halloween. Something that's really more conservative, not slutware. I'm 5'9 wear a medium in most women's clothes, have a size 29 waist and 36 shoulders. Is there such a costume that'll also end up looking ok? This is honestly my first time ever wearing a Halloween costume.
If you're looking for something cheap I'd just look on ebay under 'witch costume.' If you choose a stretchy fabric like stretch velvet/velour in a medium/large you shouldn't have to worry about it fitting you.
How fancy are you looking to get? Make your own or just buy one?
Anon, lots of people crossdress for Halloween. Right now is the one time of year a guy can openly go out and try on dresses because any questioning looks can easily be explained away with "heh, Halloween costume!"
I probably don't have the equipment to make my own but I might add some finishing touches to is. As far as fanciness. Maybe a bit plain. I don't want to stand out too much. But I'd like something that can catch the eye of someone who knows me.
I don't know. I work in a clothing store and we'd still have a giggle or two about that. Probably even more so.
I go to a thrift store and buy the stupidest shit all the time, never even had them make a face.
The other day I bought fly fishing VHS tapes and a book titled "The Complete Book of Water Healing" because I thought that shit was funny. No one will care you bought a dress.
If i had a dollar for every military guy who wore one of these costumes or a diaper and a giant pacifier id have myself a free halloween costume. if you ment women who would wear this, then i have no idea
I'm looking to do a
lolita
spider girl. I have full blackout sclera lenses on the way, but I also want to add additional eyes to my forehead. What would be the best way to get them to look real? I was thinking of like cutting black balls/marbles in half and some kind of material+spirit gum to form eyelids, but I'm really not sure what material. Any suggestions?
Hello, thanks for replying.
I am looking for something like Amelie's hair but in very dark brown or black. I'm not 100% sure of what her hair color is. Found one on ebay that looks more or lesss like it but it only comes in blonde.
I've been using "tapered neck bob" and "short bob" to look for this. Will post more examples.
Not from ebay but this wig from bodyline hasa decent tapered cut, you might want to trim it a little depending on how it sits (or curl it a little for that super fluffy Ghibli look)
Can confirm quality since I bought one a while back
All you have to say to anyone who asks (which they won't, because no one cares), "Its for a Halloween costume." You are not the first guy to wear a dress. Especially around Halloween.
That's pretty much what all the girls wore in elementary school for Halloween because it was comfy as fuck.
Though for the price someone could get a pair of legit footie pjs from Walmart or Target than whatever that flimsy piece of shit is made of.
Chances are you're not going to find a wig that just looks like that. Lots of wig sites have bobs in plenty of colors. I'd recommend buying one of the bobs from Arda and then teasing the underlayers, since their fibers take to teasing better than Epic or a lot of eBay wigs.
I'm planning on making a mask similar to the bunny Splicer masks from Bioshock, but I need to wear glasses (contacts aren't an option for my eyes) because my vision is so bad.
How can I make a mask fit comfortably over my glasses?
How possible do you think this would be to make the Crazy Party Night outfit for halloween?
I have made a few dresses before, but nothing this complicated.
Any fabric suggestions would also be appreciated
Thinking to do this Halloween Miku, anyone know a good wig shop for Miku wigs? I dont want the pigtails to tangle D:
All long wigs will tangle all you can do is pick wigs that will untangle easily and that's usually epic cosplay's stuff. Usually only takes a finger combing. That being said those pigtails have along of volume so you won't get that look without styling
That's just many of the fanarts, I'm gonna do a normal Miku style wig. I have a few different long wigs, I just find pigtail wigs tangle easier so I was wondering if anyone has purchased some before and has tips and would recommend a shop. :] thank you for the tip thou!
If you do make it, paint the orange tip on. I know it doesn't look good, but if your gun is anywhere near realistic (aka someone could glance at it and think it's real), you wouldn't want to take the chance of the cops thinking it's real. Especially considering it's Halloween, so they're already on edge.
I'm just going to keep an eye on this post for future ref and also, weird material suggestion but if you find black spoons and cut to shape (heat to round sharp edges), it might match the look of your sclera lenses? But I'm not sure how to finish the edges or attach them to your face, that's where I'm also lost on that idea for a spider.
Me and my brother want something we can wear for Halloween and gen con. We want things that are related to each other, like brothers or partners. I however can't wear contacts and need glasses desperately so I need someone who wears glasses. And we are both fat as fuck. So no topless ripped niggas. Or maybe we could get some of those shifty muscle suit things to wear under the rest of the costume.
I'm having trouble of coming up with anything. Video games and western cartoons/comics only. None of that animus weeb shit.
I figure I'll just ask here instead of making a new thread.
Crossboarder here, I want to do my first cosplay at sakuracon next year, so I want to get started now on a couple things that might look good. Problem is, I'd like to do something that's closer to my body type and skin tone.
I'm 6'1", 155lbs, and mixed so my skin isn't very dark but not very light either. I was considering later parts of JoJo for ideas since its my favorite series, with Part 8 Josuke and Father Pucci in mind. Other than that I dont know so I'd like ideas.
Anime and games are my biggest things, I'm not very familiar with western cartoons or comic book characters.
I'm super uninspired and hoping to get some couples costume suggestions. Costumes need to be recognizable or easy to explain to a bunch of boring old people, and most of the things I actually want to make are characters from video games, etc, so those are out. If we don't have to wear wigs (me: long brown hair, him: short brown hair) that's a plus. Nothing spandex or shirtless for the guy, and I don't really feel like doing much crafting beyond sewing, so no big props, wings, etc.
At my job we're expected to dress up for Halloween and I plan to be a monarch butterfly. I've got some antennae and wings picked out already, but I don't know what I should do for the rest of the costume. Shoes? Clothing? Any other details I should add so that I won't be too plain?
It needs to be work appropriate obviously, so nothing risque and nothing that will make movement difficult. I also can't cover my face for security purposes but a little face paint detail would probably be okay.
Maybe wear eyelashes like this? Searching "feather eyelashes" on Aliexpress should get you some results
Or just visit your local costume store. They probably have something like this
I would just wear regular work wear with the antennae and wings for the sake of comfort and mobility but it's up to you
I was looking at making this crow mask for this year. Anybody have any (general) pointers, tips for working with feathers at all? I was looking at getting a terrible store-bought mask and upgrading it, is this a good idea or should I start from scratch?
Thanks in advance.
I accidentally made a thread on this but, I want to dress up as the Black knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Missing arm and all. I don't know where to start, any advice?
Since this is the halloween thread:
put arm inside shirt
pin up sleeve
hot glue thin upholstery foam in cylinder, spray paint black
black gloves + fun foam gauntlet bits if you feel fancy
use freezer paper stencils (google it) to do the decal
Ben Nye Grey Liquid Hair Color will get the effect across and wash out
I made a Grim Reaper cloak out of a large piece of black cloth with a hole in the middle for the head since I couldn't find an actual costume. It works great, but I need something to cover my hands too. I don't know how to sew, so what could you guys recommend in that regard?
Also, to those of you who went to AWA, even though I probably didn't recognize you, thanks for being such a cool crowd.
That's actually a pretty nifty idea, thanks!
Glad this thread is up, /ck/ here. I've never been on this board. What's a good costume for a 275 pound female? Nothing too revealing or "sexy" please, I'm married.
I kind of want to make pic related, but I have no clue where to start.
Maybe I should go as something else entirely, I'm a pretty short girl.
Can anyone give me advice on making the Sneaking Suit from Metal Gear Solid series.
I'm having a hard time finding good wetsuits/undersuits for it, any good alternatives?
I have everything else, such as holsters/vests and such.
/cgl/ I need some advice, I got invited to a costume party for Halloween but I've no clue what to dress as because I'm uncreative aside from a skeleton outfit.
I'm 6', 130 lbs and pretty white and I'm having tons of issues finding something that doesn't look stupid for my body type
I'm thinking of being either a witch or wednesday addams, but i can't find a dress with a slightly cheapish price that would work for either. Anyone know of any?
If not those, i'm doing a couples costume with my boyfriend. We were going to be spaghett but i don't really want to do that
Running with kind of a weird idea this year, might be tough and might not be (I'm no stranger to cosplay or sewing). I'm at least confidant all my friends at our Halloween party will "get it" (all big Bloodborne fans) so I'm not worried about perfection here.
I have a few yards of shaggy white faux fur coming in, and just ordered 16ft of long wefts from Arda in silver. I was thinking of sewing sections of the wefts into the fur to make these really long tendrils of hair (pic related)
My question is: how best to actually wear this? I was thinking a gray tank and leggings, with the fur stitched to it, sort of like a cloak. A lot of bloody gauze/cheesecloth to wrap the arms, shoulders, and legs will be employed. Luckily this can all look raggedy as fuck. Amelia is basically a mummy crossed with a werewolf.
Another question: Best way to wear some painted deer antlers? I'll have on a latex mask with shit loads of fur, with basically a blouse tied around my eyes and top of my head, so it can be easy to conceal some kind of sturdy platform for them to affix to.
Can somebody give me some guidance on which materials to use for which components of a costume made based on pic related?
seconded. i've got a pattern and plenty of fusible interfacing, but i'm not sure what fabric to make it out of so that it won't look cheap. I was thinking the matte side of satin but i really want it to hold its shape.
I'd say a lot of the feathers and accents can be basic craft foam that's painted. Some kind of rough or raw linen for the waistcloth. Hard to get an understanding of what the mask should look like, I'd say doing some kind of Frankenstein assembly of an animal skull for the top half and if you're lucky finding a toothy latex monster mask to use for the mouth. If not, it might have to be made from scratch. Sheer black nylon to line the eye sockets with and red LEDs for the eyes.
What about the bracers? Should that be feathered leather or cloth or feathers? And the collar/gorget around the shoulders, what should I use for that?
Sorry if I seem like I want to be spoonfed, but this is my first homemade costume.
Yes, hi. I had a question coming from Spokansawe, Virginia.
Every Halloween, I am always stuck wearing the same exact things. What do YOU do when you're looking for inspiration in making a costume?
>What do YOU do when you're looking for inspiration in making a costume?
Pictures of spooky things, at least it was helped me make up a costume two years ago.
This might be a stretch but besides hacking two masks into one, maybe find a comfortable mask to wear that you can build on top of? Probably work out the toothy mouth detail first, and then build the surrounding chipped look. I think of a mix of paper mache, air dry clay, even fake nails you'd trim to look like the teeth.
My bf and I are going as beetlejuice and lydia. However, I'm stuck as to how to make the suit for him. I don't have an impressive amount of skill as a seamstress, but I can make some things. Most of the premade beetlejuice suits I've seen look so crap, like glorified pajamas, so I'm leaning towards making it myself
How difficult would it be to make a suit coat and pants that actually look right and not thin, floppy, baggy, and shitty? Pattern suggestions?
pic related, look how fucking shit this looks. what the fuck, halloween costume companies?
My friends are planning this thing where they're dressing as those little squid things from splatoon. They look super cute, and the fact that they're going to get married soon makes me squeeze my pillow in delight.
Please no bully, but I found a dress very similar to this one, and I used it last year to be a monarch butterfly. It's kind of tacky looking but I love it to death so much.
Go as Kick-Ass from "Kick-Ass". My thin friend went out as Kick-Ass when the movie first came out, and it was received really well.
I love, love, love to go on Deviantart and just browse through literally dozens of tabs at once. Sometimes I'll bookmark at least a hundred pages and go back to looking at them the next day, and it always helps to get my creative juices flowing.
I wouldn't know how to help, but for what it's worth, that's such an adorable idea. My boyfriend never wants to do couples costumes.
Sew fabric and Eva foam underpads. Many Batman cosplayers use this technique. I recommend checking out the RPF .
I haven't dressed up for halloween since I was 13 (I'm 22 now), might if a party is involved, which is likely.
>6', 230 lbs (overweight), wide build
>half-black (hue 25, saturation 91, brightness 32)
>hair kept short, small ovoid fro if it grows out
>facial hair is basically pubes, always clean-shaven
>6', 230 lbs., wide build
how big are your arms and can you go without glasses/contacts available?
Would GoW's Augustus Cole be in the range of possibility?
>how big are your arms
Never actually measured
>can you go without glasses/contacts available?
No, and hypersensitive corneas. Doctors recommended not getting contacts.
>Would GoW's Augustus Cole be in the range of possibility?
Not much of a craftsperson, and I don't even know who that is
I found this costume I used to wear as a kid and it still fits, albeit it being so short the slip doesn't cover my ass. Any ideas on how to amp it up a little? I'm thinking of wearing a plain black jsk underneath & a petti to make it longer and poofier. Any other ideas?
So I am going to be a cyberpunk for Halloween.
I already got the big obnoxious fur coat and pic related glasses.
Now i need cyberware to make it clear that I am "cyber." I was thinking of a nintendo power glove, but they are expensive nowadays (100+)
Any suggestions for another electronic-type glove? Or even any other clothing options or accessories? Since I haven't decided what to wear under the fur coat.
If you have the confidence, pic related could look pretty mean. Maybe with suspender clips off the bottom and thigh highs with butt kicking boots.
Seems you are going in a more Bladerunner direction than Shadowrun, but the latter has a lot of neat cyberware/bio implants worth checking out for inspiration.
Datajacks can also be a good option. Check out Deux Ex too
Not directly costume related but halloween in nature.
What halloween or horror or maybe even scifi(?) movies do you watch to get in the costume sewing spirit /cgl/?
I like to leave something on the TV while I'm doing mundane things like pressing seams.
Raspberry pi. Or better yet get a banana pi. It's all chinese and dystopian for max /cyb/ cred.
Going as little red riding hood (as a moderately buff guy). Anything I should think about in particular?
Right now I'm thinking:
red longish satin cape
red (or white?) short skirt
white knee socks with red ribbons
no idea for top yet
Etsy. You can find commercial shapes like that but not in red.
Proper, tailored suits are not for the faint of heart. However there's a few commercial patterns in the costume section that will be a lot easier (the simplicity one with the cowboy on the cover comes to mind). Just make sure that you use heavy enough material. Find your striped outer layer, but then line it in a heavy weight cotton to keep it from buckling/flopping like pic related.
the only thing cgl mods give a shit about is deleting drama threads. they won't take care of anything else. This thread will never get stickied and we're going to get bombarded with the same "What should I cosplay" threads 20 times a day.
Does anyone know if there is a specific term for the black top at right, or what period of dress I should be looking for it in? Thanks so much in advance, my brain is so slow tonight
Anyone know how to make eyes like this? Preferably that I can see out of. I've seen one tutorial already but it wasn't that great for the amount of money spent.
And of course i forgot the picture.
I'd make the lines with hotglue on my cutting board (i discovered hotglue won't stick to mine, no idea what it's made of) paint the outside flesh colored with a little more pink for scar tissue, then attach it to my chest with lash glue the day of.
I'm doing the Muppet's Animal for Halloween. And it's kinda ZZTop meets Electric Mayhem, maybe a little hipster thrown in.
I've got most of the costume already:
red shaggy wig
red beard (not sure if I want to leave it long or short it)
and of course, big bushy monobrow.
Two extras I thought about adding, but not sure: leather cuffs and big red nose. While I think a big red nose would be a nice touch, I don't know if it would add or take away from the over all costume.
And regarding the cuffs, not sure if I should go spiky punk rocker, or bondage-type, with a little chain attatched.
I've only made paper mâché mask in the past that were used for one time and that's it.
This time i want the mask to be a lot harder and longer lasting for multiple con use.
What mixtures and materials do you all use?
I'd be happy to give you some material recommendations anon, but can you be a bit more specific? What's your budget, have you worked with theromoplastic, what equipment do you have avaibld, if you haven't worked with theromoplastics, what materials have you worked with, how detailed is this mask gonna be, etc?
Who should I go out as for Halloween? Keep in mind I am a guy. Preferably not something I have to make for myself, as I am a bit stretched for time.
Bonus points if you put a link in.
Double bonus points if it is RWBY related.
E9000 and what >>8621257 said if you intend to wear it longer than a day. If it is just halloween and you don't intend to put much weight on it E9000 will hold up. Put glue on both sides, let it get tacky (about 10-20 minutes) put them together and then weight it down with something very heavy, or clamp it together with a vice if you have one, and leave it alone for at least 24hrs.
Its Frank's Mask from the movie Frank. Not very detailed just trying to make it accurate. Already have around the dimensions its going to be.
Basing this off of Michael Fassbender's height and proportions so its the best i came up with from objects in the movie and his body.
No I have never used theromoplastics and the only things I've worked with have been clay and paper mache for mask. I am will and have time to learn something at an intermediate level of difficulty.
I'm selling mine if you'd like. Bangs are precut and I "poofed" the ends to look more "Miku" like. Any long wig is going to tangle, but I've given it some coconut lotion treatments to keep it relatively nice looking (and smelling good).
Shoot me an email if you're interested.
Hey guys, girlfriend and I going as pic related.
Itll be a casual outfit, we dont need it to be exact.
Ive got the combat fatigues (olive) the eye patch, getting a bandana and a wig, as well as some facepaint for "camo" but there are two things I could use advice on:
The undershirt, and the gloves
For the former, Im thinking just a black underarmor shirt, maybe with a turtleneck or collar.
For the gloves, no fucking clue. They look expensive as all fuck and Im considering dropping it.
Giving this a shot so why not.
Guy here going as Juggernaut from Dota, military style. I can get almost everything in the pic but the shoulderpiece. Where can I find this fabric or what's its name?
go with snazaroo or kryolan clown makeup. just make sure you clean your face beforehand so it's not oily and dust with baby powder afterwards for a nice finish. Seal with setting spray if you want it to last all day but if it's just for a couple hours at a party it's nbd
Mens. Fucking. Leather. Jackboots.
can be fake leather, but should be halloween cheap, not 'keep my whole life and love forever' priced.
WHERE? I've never shopped for guy's shoes before and I don't even know where to start. My boyfriend actually agreed to let me dress him up and I'm already a let down!
My boyfriend recently was on the same quest for a cosplay. He ended up finding a cheap pair on Amazon, and said he had good luck searching with the keywords costume, medieval, renfaire, pirate, steampunk, etc.
The pair he found are cheap as fuck, but searching for actual shoes just led to shit way too expensive for a costume, or endless cowboy boots.
Greetings /cgl/, /v/ here
This Halloween I want to do Tony from Hotline Miami. I've got a decent mask, though i'll need to mod it a bit, cut and bloody one of the eye holes. Maybe shave off some of the white fur too?
I'm not sure what to do for the spiked knuckle dusters. Right now i'm thinking i'll wear my gym gloves and try and tape some tinfoil or something, though that'll probably look terrible. Any ideas?
Shirt + Pants is easy, but i'm not sure what to do about the bullet proof jacket. I've been looking at airsoft vests, though not many of them really look like what i'm after. The best I could find was this
Any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated!!
Had the same problem. I ended up buying the cheap costume version for my husband because he has short legs and big calfs and the army surplus boots I could find were too narrow. A lot of the surplus on ebay ships out of Eastern Europe, too, and iirc the estimated shipping times were long. I altered the cheap ones with a gusset of vinyl in the back seam. He's worn them a couple times and says they're not terrible comfort-wise. They get a bit mooshed in the toe, but for ~$40 they work. Keyword "pirate" on ebay/amazon will generally get you the style with the fold over top, "space captain" or Star Trek/Star Wars keywords will get you plain knee high boots.
How would I go about making this fuckers head?
or any head for that matter? Like, the logistics of being able to take it off and put it on again.
AND the shape AND to make it sit.
Any links or advice will be amazing
Im thinking maybe carve it ouf of floral foam cover in an air dry clay and sand the hell out of it. Paint white. (the skull part) and then get some of that see-thru black fabric that cheap halloween masks use for the eyes/nose. Might be too complex for just a halloween costume though,
Awesome, I'll look into that. Thank you! If it's good I plan to use it again, so I'm in for anything.
How would I get it on and off my head? Are there any ways to do this without fucking it up
Going to do that fucking fawn makeup tbh. seeing as I can acheive it with things I already own. My normalfag friends seem to think it's pretty original and cool (lol) Honestly no idea what to wear in terms of a costume though.
also whats the key to not having the makeup look a fucking mess like so many do? shades of brown rather than black maybe?
I'm going to a showing of Escape from New York in an old chapel for the night before Halloween and I used to work at Blockbuster and still have my old uniform and name tag. I'm wondering what would be the best way to halloweenify going as a Blockbuster employee. I was thinking zombie one but maybe that is too generic? I was considering writing LATE FEES in blood on the back of the shirt.
Don't make the bronze too dark and be sure to blend it. I personally think just the cheekbones looks the best but if you want to do across the nose too I don't think normalfags would think it was too much. Make the dots white and not too big but not teeny. And if you do the black nose thing only color the UNDERSIDE of your nose. The higher up it goes the crappier it looks imo
Either that or maybe a ghost because the chain is dead. If you're going with a friend you should duo with them personifying netflix. Another option would be to make it super 90s, like wear a Jurassic Park button and carry around a huge cased Disney VHS. Maybe add massive cell phone and a side ponytail with a neon scrunchie.
fuck I wanted to add this but forgot. the least offensive fawn makeup I could find
Elastic probably. Are you thinking like a full cover helmet type thing or a flat face mask?
when carving put two decent sized holes near the side (just above where itll sit on your ears) after covering and painting attach with hot glue or tie it.
I want to make some patches to put on a leather vest. Does anyone have a good tutorial on how to make patches? I like your guys tutorials more than just googling some random shit.
Do you own an embroidery machine? Do you own a sewing machine or a serger? Were you wanting embroidered patches or mostly fabric appliques? If it's for a leather vest, you'll have to sew them on instead of being able to make iron-on patches.
Looking to make a Burt Macklin FBI costume. Anyone know where I could find an FBI jacket like the one in pic related?
I was thinking a full cover helmet.
Never done something like this before, super excited to try. I just need some kind of direction.
I've looked at some mascotf/fursuit tutorials to see how they make heads and stuff, but they're not really helpful so far
How would I go about making this cape and making it look tattered? How about the collar?
Do not do >>8657344
If using synthetic fabrics, you'll want to take a lighter and slowly burn the edges to get the proper tattered look. Along with that, you can also use sand paper to fray the edges more if you want. Cutting it just with scissors will make it look horribly unnatural and artificial.
What kind of dress did you go for? Me and my bf are doing the same (despite him being a short buff asian, not exactly similar but him and his friends love the show), but I couldn't find anything on youtube regarding what she actually is wearing, except for the collar thing and pill box hat.
I'm gonna wear a costume that covers my body but halfway through the party I'm gonna rip it off and under will be... JOHN CENA. people are gonna eat that shit up. I just don't know what b I want the over costume to be. Suggestions?
This is a terrible idea as your transformation will likely go largely unnoticed by most of the people there, save for maybe 3 or 4 people directly next to you. Of the people that do notice, maybe 1 or 2 of them will be slightly amused for half a second, while the others will mostly be annoyed by it. After your change, you will still have the remnants of your old costume that you will have to then carry around with you for the rest of the night as no one wants your sweaty ripped up costume laying on the floor, and then you're John Cena carrying around a ripped costume, which makes no sense. And finally, unless you actually have a body like John Cena, no one would assume you were dressed as John Cena.
Other than that, do Scooby Doo.
As someone who doesn't go on /cgl/ aside from this one thread, the only difference between dressing up for a halloween party and dressing up for a convention is the size and position of the reference pool. You still want people who see you to recognize who you're pretending to be, so if you know you're not going to be surrounded by weebs, a weeb costume probably isn't the best idea.
sitting on a shitload of cardboard atm.
gonna make myself a full blown madao suit
should i just make the top one piece, or use modified suit patterns?
Hey guys. I'm most likely going to go as a minotaur since I have the body for it (aside from being short). Any suggestions/links to a fitting tail? Going for either black or brown.
Me and a friend want to go as Mulder and Scully for Halloween but I have no idea on where to start for Mulder. Like is he wearing a suit most of the time or is it just a coat of sort plus what is the most common tie he wore and such.
The Joker and HQ are a pretty basic choice, especially if you are with a normal crowd (there is nothing worse than people guessing at your obscure costume because nobody gets the reference).
I've seen a decent Mario and Peach combo.
Also, Zap Brannigan and Leela
Any tips or suggestions for someone who's 6'7"?
Not sure what to do for Halloween tbh but my showings for recent years have been rubbish so want to do something good this year. Was thinking something medieval but something like that might be too elaborate for me to assemble.
Probably just get a blue windbreaker from a goodwill store, then apply stick on fabric letters. You could also use heat'n'bond to make your own fabric letters and iron them on. Just make sure the windbreaker isn't going to melt when it is ironed.
Does anybody have any ideas for a megaman costume? I'm thinking blue bodysuit, blue boots, cheese puff container for the cannon, and cardboard for the helmet. Still not sure what to do about leg guards or underwear...
I've been planning the same since I'm a lazy fuck but yeah, clothing is definitely a struggle.
You could maybe look at some mori kei stuff for inspiration? The foresty look seems appropriate to me, I just haven't found anything irl yet that would work for it
Depends how OCD you are about being screen accurate. If you just want to do a fun costume, your plans sound pretty solid. Helmetwise... a football helmet sprayed blue with a few attachments?
w2c A hat and tunic like this? Are they custom made or do I have to lurk milsurp stores?
I'm thinking of Archer/EMIYA from FSN this year, but it seems like it'd be hard to pull off. I don't have the muscles for the alternate costume either, any ideas on the upper vest thingy?
I have a question, how can I do pic related's body? I was thinking on using glue coated foam and painting it with spraypaint, but i don't know how to actually put it on something weareable
what do you guys think? I'm not going to bother with the axe anymore and for the legs I'm just going to get one of those female fur cuff things that go from your ankles to knees. Any suggestions for something that will let me get fur on my arms would be appreciated. Maybe i should just buy the same fur thing and cut it short enough to fit my forearm.
body for reference.
I will also get a fake nose ring and maybe earring.
Newcomer here. I got a catsuit from Amazon for a Black Cat costume for Halloween. It creates a huge gap between the butt and the shoulders. Any quick ways of fixing this? I don't think the material is very easy to sew and I don't have a machine? Would a belt or *shudders* a corset work?
Thanks for the help! It's 90% Polyester/10% Spandex with a liquid leather finish on the outside. Yes, I learned my lesson. I will buy a better catsuit next time. Where can I get one?
Pic related is the one I got.
Wops. You will have a bad time trying to sew this.
Just realised that maybe I sounded a bit hard in my last post. I'm sorry.
The problems seems to be that the sze is incorrect. If you can't return it, try with a belt, maybe decorated as a "tool belt" or something like this.
I've seen people get the large craft buttons and use spirit glue to attach to their cheeks below their eyes. Kind of like wearing the button like a monocle. And the string holes were big enough for them to see through. Though I'm guessing the vision will still be obscured somewhat.
I have a slightly-too-big hat and wanted to line it with foam of some sort for a better fit. Its a pirate hat, so i can glue foam to the inside without it showing. I just dont know what kind of foam to use.
Hi /cgl/, first time posting in this board.
How would you guys approach in making a War Boys costume?
Any tips on make up or props?
Does anyone have a tutorial for styling a wig into a beehive?
I plan on using a foam core and then covering it with wig fibers, I've done with with an odango style but never for something that just is on top of the head. I'd love to look at a tutorial for placement/attachment of the foam core.
If you're worried about being shirtless because of body hair you don't have to be. You can wear a shirt. Although, a lot of Warboys are shirtless. You'll just want to keep the shirt to a kind of monotone-earth color. And maybe dusty it up too.
And you can use wig caps too. Here's a tutorial for it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzhfvXZU1sM
Additional picture of a type of shirt to wear for a warboy. I think I've heard chalk helps give that dusty look.
Also if you really want to be WITNESSED, buy some edible spray paint. For that whole SHINY AND CHROME appeal. http://www.amazon.com/Chefmaster-Edible-2-Ounce-Kosher-Certified/dp/B002XN91SE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1432557831&sr=8-2&keywords=edible+silver+spray+paint
Doing a Little Witch Academia costume for Halloween and I'm surprised I haven't been able to find a nice witches hat tutorial. I'm confident I can make one myself easily enough but it's always nice to have a tutorial that turned out well to work off of. I also want to make the broom accurate but unfortunately haven't found any brooms in any stores that can work well base any advice on this? Thank you.
As someone trying to get this together for the 501st I can tell you these are pretty specific outfits you wont find at milsurp. I've heard fairly good things about CosplaySky, but you need to be sure to give lots of measurements or it can arrive not fitting you. Hat needs to be ordered separately.
going to make a plague doctors mask and some stilts
anyone have tips?
Ive got some plaster of paris, and I've been sucessfull with paper mache before, but stilts are new to me and I want to make sure they're safe
also any idea about a sewing pattern for a gown?
I don't want it to look like a sack, and I'm not sure how to extent it to the ground and still be able to move in it
I'm considering going as Manny Calavera from Grim Fandango, should I go for facepaint( Similiar to pic related) Or should I actually make a proper mask
It isn't me friendo, it's the closet to what I'm looking for facepaint wise
I wanna be an egg yolk/white for Halloween because I can't think of anything else easy.
I was wondering what face/body paint is good that wont rub off on shit.
I'm planning on wearing white clothes/stockings gloves and painting my face white with a yellow yolk in the centre.
How lolrandumXD!!111! right
So I thought about going as the Joker. Not the Ledger Joker walking around, giggling and licking his lips just to ask "WANNA KNOW WHERE I GOT THESE SCARS" from time to time, but the real one from the comics.
What do you guys recommend?
I'd like to use Rit dye to color a cloak into a solid (probably black or navy) but the original color of it is a red and yellow plaid pattern. Is Rit strong enough to cover that kind of design, and should I be worried about color transfer when it's done?
What material would work best as the leather strips in the hounds armor?
This one's pretty straightforward, and doesn't really require any advanced craft knowledge aside from sanding, spackling, and gluing stuff together.
As for the robe, it really is just a long black dress. If you want to break the shape up a bit, you could go for a mantle/capelet thing on top, but other than that it's basically a long-sleeved cloak/medieval hazmat suit.
The seller's pictures are kind of bad but it's cotton.
I just got a $10 bodycon dress from this app called poshmark, it's like an online thrift store. If you wanna check that out if you enter code BORWA upon signing up you get a free $5
pic related me dress
>not carrying a blunt in your mouth
>not going as "your brain on drugs"
step it up
Probably depends on what you're doing on Halloween. With a mask, you probably won't even want to wear it most of the time if you're with your friends talking and such. Face paint would probably be more comfy, and you can just use primer, seal it, and spray some hairspray over it so it doesn't come off. That girl's paint looks pretty nice.
literally leather...??? i mean if you're cheap you could do faux leather but it won't hold up as well or look as nice (and it'll likely crack) Nothing compares to the glorious quality of full grain leather
Either way you're gonna be using a heavy/unusual material so I hope you have a knowledge and tools to sew it.
I've seen a lot of plague doctor masks made of leather, it would be lightweight and historically accurate but you would have to know how to work leather or rush commission someone who does. Godspeed anon. I'm doing a medical themed costume as well
i'm looking for ideas for my halloween costume. i'd like it to be original and easy to make, since my friends won't put much effort into their costumes either, we're looking to have fun.
one of my ideas was to go as the venus of milo (with a white sheet, a skin-toned top and black long goves) inspired by the dreamers movie.
i also was thinking about going as charlotte from lost in translation with a pink wig, but i don't think my friends would get the reference.
what would you suggest me? (i'm a skinny blonde girl with pale skin)
Me and some mates are throwing a halloween party and we're all going as something /co/ related
I'm a 6'6" skinnyfat man so I thought I could pull off BoJack but I'm checking in if any other tall characters spring to mind
Bojack is so easy. Horse mask, grey blazer, blue knit sweater, teal jeans, red converse with white socks and you got it. Dye the mane black, paint some droopy eyes on and you got it. Ezpz.
Me and my sister plus my boyfriend are doing Bojack for Halloween. I'm short bojack, boyfriend is todd, sister is princess Carolyne. All ezpz. We're rocking the party.
