There's an entire thread dedicated to SU, lets have one for other Western toons. I'd love to see some characters or character designs that aren't often cosplayed. Pic related, I've never seen another person do Lazy Susan from GF.
Bumping with this, I think they did a pretty good job on Mabel's watermelon sweater outfit. The only thing is the stripes on the sweater are a bit too thick.
Fair enough. Question though, why is it that SU is so popular to cosplay shit from, but all the other Western cartoons barely get any attention from cosplayers? Did all the Homestucks just grow up and miss painting themselves so they switched to the newest Flavor of the Month?
I feel like you pretty much hit the nail on the head. Also, most of my cosplays tend to be of Western cartoon characters and I really wish more people would do them at cons too.
I think it's because the cosplays (the gems at least) are more difficult than other western shows because most western shows are just normie/buyable clothing or any shows that do have armor, paint, interesting wigs are from the early 90s and aren't that relevant anymore. also they have interesting weapons that can make for good props, meanwhile most western shows today just offer things like small wands or books, ect. I mean I myself picked opal even though i don't like pearl or amethyst just because I wanted to try the double arms (this was before sardonyx came out). The colors also stick out A LOT. It's hard to walk past a pearl or a group of SU without having the bright colors draw your attention, so that could be it as well.
Yeah, pretty much all of my cosplays are of Western cartoon characters too, so I feel you. Love the Kids Next Door group cosplay!
That's how I feel about SU lol. It's good, but it's not that good.
I guess I can see that. I'd honestly rather see people cosplay stuff from the early 90s than SU, but that's just me. I don't give two shits about relevance, though.
SU (and Star vs, but Star is suffering feom Disney hating animated shows and also haven't been airing for as long) is very anime in comparsion to a lot of the other shows, I think. Which is why it's gained such a following to begin with and also in the cosplay community.
Also it seems that shows become more prone to being cosplay popular if they've a distinct and uniform look to their designs (Naruto, Sailor Moon, Homestuck and Attack on Titan all have this, aside from SU) so that may be a thing.
That's a great group!!
Also /r/ more Star vs cosplay.
I'm in complete agreement with you about Disney's shitty treatment of Star. I really wish they'd release a proplica of her wand. I've been considering cosplaying Star (mainly her pink dress from the party bus ep). However, I'm not sure what the best method would be to do her wand and not have it look cheap.
Have they done any merch on Star whatsoever? 'Cause I most definitely haven't seen any.
As for wands, I think this is the only good one I've seen so far. I think the best way to do it would be by using some solid base (wood, maybe) and then doing the front with resin techniques and using some sort of thermoplastic for the wings and crown.
Dumping what I have.
I like Ashe's Magnet Mabel cosplay.
and /r/ more of lesser done Mabel cosplays. I've never seen a good one for the stereo sweater or the mushroom sweater, do any of those exist? also patiently awaiting someone to do the monkey and bananas sweater and the red white and blue sweater from the Stanchurian Candidate.
Nope, at least not that I know of. It's a pretty stupid move on Disney's part.
That wand looks fantastic! And thank you for the helpful tips - I'll most likely go that route if I do decide to try my hand at making Star's wand.
The only "cosplay" I'm finding of her boombox sweater is this
Man. I like Star vs.
I've been wanting my husband, my son, and I to dress up as the Diaz family.it actually works out really well since my husband's Hispanic, taller, and darker then me. While our son got his dad's skin tone but my brown hair. We also have one friend who has dressed up as star and another that wants to cosplay her.
Oh my god that's sounds soooo cute. There aren't enough Star vs. cosplayers.
I love Star vs too, especially the fact that there's some representation of an only child. And he's not a selfish, socially retarded asshole. And his family is really nice.
Yeah. I really like the Diaz family and Marco's a pretty decent guy. It's also nice when it shows the differences between Marco's and Star's families.
I also have a dog, though she's a toy poodle so not quiet right to be one of the laser eye puppies.
This is supposed to be Pacifica... I cringed
Only photo I can find of this guy, the author of the journals, my brother. Jk, but best Ford I've seen thus far.
I saw someone wearing Stanchurian canidate at dragoncon but I didn't get a pic, there was also a sock opera one as well
I actually thinks she looks okay. She's cute but not older-attractive; ie, she adequately pulls off the "awkward pre-teen" look. Grappling hook needs work and I'm weirded out by the finger on her ring (weirded out in the context of the photo like .....Mabel has a promise ring? the fuck?).
One thing I really want to know, though - what's up with the tiny white dots in the centers of the stars? Each star has one; are they pins? tacking threads?
I guess, but Mabel isn't really an awkward pre-teen despite being 12, she's consistently portrayed as being cute and adorable, which that girl isn't.
I mean it's not a terrible cosplay by any means, it's just mediocre and the girl is average/below average looking, so I was wondering why it has so many notes (like 400 or so). I think >>8644942 is correct, good photos.
Personally I kinda wanna do Star's "St. Olga's Reform School for Wayward Princesses" outfit, it was so cute. Either that or her Mewberty/Muberty form.
Ooh or maybe the one she wore for Brittney's birthday. Or the Marco outfit.
Way too many choices.
Do these colors seem right? I color-picked them from the clearest screenshots I could find.
Damn. Never expected to see Mummy's Alive cosplay.
I admit I've been wanting to cosplay from Swat Kats. I was joking with friends about doing a group. I'd love the challenge of making a Molly costume.
She gives me a younger Captain Janeway vibe.
I'm getting tired of the edgy "older" Dipper's. Alex Hirsch even said that Dipper wouldn't get any tattoos because he's a square... and yet we have this shit
but you get what i'm saying. just because dipper is a square and a loser doesn't mean he's going to stay the exact same way his entire life. you never knew uber dork kids that grew up and had severe rebellious phases?
he's like 10 years old in the cartoon, isn't he?
let's all get real and stop getting pissy because teenagers like to imagine their favorite child cartoon characters growing into teenegers because now those rebellious teens can cosplay their favorite character looking and acting as rebellious as these real kids feel.
this is super ultra dumb and special snowflake-y
i actually don't cosplay because i can't afford it but thanks for seeing someone defend children being made fun of and think "this situation needs more asshole in it and i am just perfect for that role"
take your butthurt back to tumblr
Edge older versions of characters are just dirt beards, hipster clothes, and trans headcanons. They're all embarrassing and done as poorly and cheaply as possible.
translation "teenagers are doing things i don't like and i am letting that affect me!"
get real. you are making fun of a teenager. you are getting mad because you don't like the cosplay a teeneger put together in his spare time for fun. that is somethign you are spending your time on, shitting on a teenager because their cosplay isn't up to your standards.
You're reading into this too much. Anon just said they were tired of it and they don't get it because it goes against what I assume is the creator of the show said. Considering they weren't being a jerk, aren't they just as entitled to their opinion as you are?
I hate to tell you this, but people are allowed to dislike things. Many of us like Dipper just as much as the people cosplaying him as some edgy looking teenager and we're allowed to say we don't like that look for him. It's not like we're sending anon hate to the cosplayers, calm down.
>we leave the anon bitching to the tumblrinas
That was my first post in this thread. Saying "/r/ing ___ " is just a common way to say requesting here, at least for as long as I've been using this site. Why did you get so triggered?
The creator of the show literally said Dipper would not grow up to get tats so whatever bitch
Also has anyone ever seen a creative Bill cosplay? Kinda tired of all the tailcoat Bills, they're all so boring.
If the person is old enough to post their cosplay online, then they're old enough to receive criticism.
I'm sure that this person received lot of back patting from fellow special snowflake teens, so some people calling them out for their shit on a site where they're most likely never to see it doesn't really matter that much
The hell is your obsession with teenagers? Most if the "edgy older" dipper cosplay I've seen has been by people 18 and older. Just because they are technically a "teen" means jack shit. It's not an excuse to get away with a stupid, shitty, inaccurate cosplay.
There are several "teenagers" on /cgl/ who do actual good work.
Not even the anon you're replying to, but FFS I started posting online when I was 9 (not cosplays but other things, outfits and shit) and guess what? I got criticism and I was old enough to hear it. Time for these edgelords to grow a pair. Go back to your hugbox tumblrina, you're not welcome here.
Lmao. Unless they're like, under 12, they're old enough to hear polite criticism. You're acting like we're tearing them apart when we're just like "yeah I agree I think it's lame"
But I guess sometimes I forget that these kids have grown up in an internet culture that coddles them and lies to them, telling them they're 100% perfect in every way imaginable and wonderful unique special sneauxflakes. Gone are the good days of old when we initiated the youngsters quickly and correctly, by being way bigger assholes than anyone in this thread. It's the core reason younger teenagers are such clueless, cringey fucks - nobody has ever criticized anything about them or what they do. It's breeding a generation of Mary Sues.
You can't just thank a more civil internet culture for that.
Coddling by schools and soccer moms, "everyone's a winner" and "zero tolerance" policies are much more responsible.
On the positive side, I guess it's also a sign kids aren't getting bullied nearly as much any more?
Nah, I have little cousins all over the US and they all have dealt with bullies in school. Now I'd bet that the bullies probably just have over-inflated self confidence, rather than the bullies of old who bullied because they felt inadequate and had a shit home life.
>rather than the bullies of old who bullied because they felt inadequate and had a shit home life.
I remember hearing adults insisting that all bullies were just sad and scared.
But all the bullies I dealt with growning up were large and liked throwing their weight around, or had that over-inflated self-confidence.
And that was before "everyone's a winner" and "zero tolerance" became a thing.
You're full of bullshit. For a lot of people it takes criticism to improve. If everyone agreed on everything someone did, that person would never grow and would never try new things because they're constantly being told that what they already do is fine, even if it's not. There is supposed to be a balance between praise and criticism, even as a fucking elementary schooler I realized this.
I wish this person had more pics of their belly dancer Bill
Damn, Mabel really let herself go as she got older.
huh? The constructive part is don't do lame ass edgelord cosplays
I mean that's like being upset at someone saying a girl wearing a full milanoo coord is an ita and the coord is bad. There's nothing constructive to say because the best thing to do is start over completely
Everything about this screams tumblr. I get that Mabel's dress sense isn't all that polished but ffs some light makeup and a cute, fluffy sweater instead of that ratty mess would make this way better. It'd be recogniseable, for one. As it is she looks like she should be wearing crystals and tampon jewellery to go with the rest of the shit.
Also, closed curtains and light switched on? Really?
I think the ring might be a detail from the first episode where the gnomes try to get Mabel to marry them and they put a ring on her finger. She also gets her grappling hook in that episode.
Oh shit, fan fail. I've watched that episode probably five times and definitely recognised the cosplay for referencing Mabel getting leaves in her hair then, but completely forgot about the gnomes putting the ring on her finger. Sage for no contriboot.
I love the Animaniacs, but that snout-face makeup is blood chilling.
Man I love seeing nostalgia cosplays.
That feel when I want to cosplay Skwisgaar again but the guitar belonged to someone I'm no longer friends with. Can't cosplay him without his guitar, blargh. I sort of want to attempt Pickles too. Pickles if forever my favorite.
She's probably still going to have to proportions of a woman, though. She could bind, sure, but what about waist and ass? Maybe she didn't want to do all of that. Going as your opposite gender isn't as simple as putting on a short wig. If you think it is, you're doing it wrong.
