New petition, posts everywhere. Let us discuss gulls.
they both steal, lie, manipulate, and act like shitheads. they set up a charity, accepted donations, but never registered that charity or gave proof of donation to the cause they were supposedly collecting for (tsunami relief). they abandon foreign guests without food or translators. they used a friend for tens of thousands of dollars, racked up immense debt that got them evicted/banned...
i mean seriously, did you even read the fucking link?
The site misspelled niche as nitch
Shit like that turns a boycott into a grade school whine fest.
Spell check and make sure your arguments are correct so you don't come off as an idiot and your point can be taken more seriously.
Oh, right, all that unpopular brand that happens to just still be in stock online and easy to get. I'm terrified.
You don't need this. At all. Instead, encourage actual conventions to grow and expand!
AP Didn't have anything exclusive or hard to get at their booth last year, they had items like the blue tassel JSK. So pretty unpopular stuff. Sure they sold out, but they only had enough for 1 day with them anyway
That's a really unfortunate way of thinking anon. But I don't expect much from you guys after 2 of your comm members white knighted for John and his scamming cause on the rc:uncensored thread. Clearly you all are just desperate to get your hands on some brand and meet famous people kek
Was there any explanation of what happened with AP and their one day of merchandise? I heard from several sources that the reason they "sold out" on day 1 was that everything was locked up at the end of the day, and then the key was lost (or "lost") which is why they didn't/could't restock after that.
They never whiteknighted John, just defended their comm after two other members were trying to incite drama about the comm. One of the drama girls has been asking about how to volunteer at AM.
It's unclear if the fashion show pieces, or a second day's worth of restock are what was locked away. If it was the fashion show stuff, that might have been AM covering for promising to sell stuff that AP doesn't actually sell.
Yes. I bought some stuff I could have bought online and just hadn't super cared about enough to buy before because I wanted to buy from the designers while there. All my friends who bought things just opportunistically shopped because no shipping cost.
Everything they had was unpopular or old sale items.
I know that the reason my friends bought stuff from them last year was because it was all crap that they couldn't get rid of, so they had huge sales prices with no shipping fee. Plus, we all know that people buy shit at cons just because they feel con-obligated to. I've done that so many times.
The difference is that a business can run perfectly fine while being led by an asshole, because there's sharing of responsibility and competition, while a single convention organiser or committee subgroup can basically take control over the whole thing.
Honestly I'm probably going to go because an anime con is the only way I can get all my siblings in one place anymore, and I miss my family. The Leighs are scumbags, but the chance to get all my family in one place means more than boycotting some Japanese cartoon convention.
I bought dramatic rose set for a slight discount. Mostly it was nice they had catalogues and postcards, the small mediocre lucky packs and some separated lucky pack items like purses and stuff. The best things they had was one pair of navy cdc otks and a few of those marine pieces in less popular cuts and colors
This is my reasoning too, except it's for out of town friends that I don't get to hang with often. Many already reserved rooms/badges or just don't care and some are planning to move further away so I don't want to miss one of my few chances of seeing everyone together. This may as well be the last year we support it too. I can't speak for all of my friends, but I wish the sjws in the lolita comm would understand this. I understand their views and I don't want to support them either. (I was trying to push most of us to attend PAX instead but it couldn't work...) I just wish I wouldn't get ostracized for attending for these reasons. My personal friends matter more to me than a fashion I may eventually end up leaving in the future.
>My personal friends matter more to me than a fashion I may eventually end up leaving in the future.
it's not like the Leighs wounded a ~fashion~, they hurt people from all walks of life. grats on helping them keep that lifestyle up and don't forget to vote for Trump
>Well the other conventions in Texas need to step up then.
If only all conventions got their funding through illicit means! Then we could have more options to see our favorite voice actors and models XD
We have adult responsibilities. In a perfect world, we'd get to see each other a lot more often, but we all live in different places and money is tight. If we're all going to set our other commitments and spend the money/travel time to all meet up in one place, it's better if it's also during an event we'd enjoy.
Then rephrase what that anon said as follows:
>My personal friends matter more to me than some strangers that I am related to only in my clothing tastes, no matter how awful their experiences were
And it's not entirely nonsensical.
it is hard for me to imagine enjoying AM at all, knowing what i know about the struggles of the donors, volunteers, guests, vendors, etc. but i don't shop on Black Friday or Thanksgiving either, because it leaves a similar bad taste in my mouth--yet i know a lot of people do it ostensibly for their families and friends.
it's a foreign moral compass to me.
Atelier Pierrot was one of the brands whose stock was stolen (or "mysteriously disappeared" as the claims from the Leighs were).
As for H. Naoto, they probably escaped that fate, because they refused to work on John's terms to begin with. It ticked John off that they weren't bending to his will like the lolita brands were doing. But H. Naoto is a pretty big company in terms of alternative clothing in Japan (they offer items in a wide variety of styles, not just lolita), so they probably could afford to turn down the requests of one weirdo foreigner, unlike the lolita brands that cater to a much smaller customer base.
An anti-AM tea party sounds like a great and festive way to boycott together! I don't understand why so many lolitas think that they have to attend AM because it's a good excuse to dress up. Jfc.
So AM Hawaii is only letting three day pass holders buy a ticket to its across the street party.
Besides the two who are promoters or staffers the Mod and her friends are super excited to model and go to the tea party where they're giving away 7 brand outfits (or at least items but they're claiming outfits). 7 outfits for 50 guests.
Rumor among our other con staff is that they haven't even sold half of the tickets (at least this was the number three weeks ago)
AM actually "lost" the fashion show goods, but it was recovered afterwards. Or AP did because they didn't want to sell it. Either way, I'm pretty sure John promised something he couldn't live up to
They gave away free tickets to the last US tea party, because they didn't sell out at all. They even let in some badly dressed ITAS because of this. John is desperate to not seem like a failure, hence him throwing lots of $$$ at everything he does.
"Look at my fancy party! Look at it! You might win an outfit worth more than your ticket! Why I even ask money for tickets is something I didn't think about at all!"
There's already this. A certain crowd in Houston always goes around talking trash about AM and making jokes. It's not bad but it's pretty exhausting and I'm not the type to indulge in salt in person. When I'm out in lolita I just wanna enjoy myself and the fashion, kinda sick of focusing on AM all the time. Anti this and that can get really obnoxious after a while.
John does a lot of shit just for marketing. There's a lot those two do that sacrifices profit just so they can "seem" successful. It's pretty obvious seeing how they never pay anyone back and are greedily keeping any money they can keep to themselves.
>anti this and that can get obnoxious
Thank you. If you aren't going good for you. You don't need to go on your 20 minute rant EVERY TIME someone says anything remotely related to AM.
If only other TX conventions would blatantly steal from friends without moral repercussions.
Oh wait, no, sorry, they have moral compasses installed in them. Some of them are fairly damaged but they are never fully broken.
But I'm sure the majority of that petition are people who already didn't like AM and are just happy to jump on this bandwagon now that it's getting negative publicity. The number of people who were attendees and see this site and then that changes their mind is probably very low.
I actually do wish this got proper publicity. You don't need anywhere near a majority to boycott it for the boycott to work, but it needs far more advertising among other communities.
Because when it comes time to put your precious brand where your mouth is, a lot of lolis are choosing brand.
>tfw sexual harassment allegations are forgivable as long as Angelic Pretty will be there
>I just want to support the brands and let them know America loves them. I'm not actually supporting John
Considering how little stock they actually had at the booth when it came down too it and how long you had to wait in line . You are better off just buying online than saving for a super pass. Only to find out that other vendors/artist alley pass people have gotten ahead of you thus rendering your super pass useless and everything already being sold out by the time you get inside.
I saw a girl try to defend her choice in going by claiming that she was going in order to defend her friends from sexual harassment
If you think the Brands care, you have your head up your ass.
For everyone boycotting AM for morality reason, you also need to boycott these brands.
THEY ARE SUPPORTING AM. They know what has happened to their customers and THEY DON'T CARE. AM is a chance to make a huge profit so why give a shit about a few american girls?
If you are TRULY boycotting AM for the right reasons, you need to also boycott their supporters to have a good effect. Otherwise you are a ridiculous bandwagoner.
It's not like those 6 Brands are the only lolita brands in the world.
i would like to see copies of the communication to/with brands about the issue. i would say i will boycott but i already only buy second hand, so it would be an empty gesture; nonetheless, seeing copies or screens of the communication would be good.
I think a lot if it is just ignorance on the brands part, or at lease contractual obligations. I mean VM, AP, Meta, Putumayo I bet they signed something way back in April (before any of this came out) stating they would attend. I don't know this for sure, I'm just trying to give them the benefit of the doubt.
How do you know that for sure? I just want to know their side of the story as to why they support AM or if they are left in the dark. If it's all business then fine as long as it brings closure, I don't care.
I know people have talked to the shop staff, but the problem is the language barrier and people who can speak Japanese having the balls to speak up for the English speaking communities.
same. i want to know what they know and what their reasons for attending are.
yeah, but it would still mean more for those who buy new to take a stand, IF we can know for sure that the brands signed up after learning about the issues. i can announce my intent to not even buy those brands second-hand but i do not think the brands will care.
We know AP is going to stick to AM because Lynda is the one working the strings there and everyone knows she's as twisted as the Leighs.
What hurts my soul is that Meta is still going. Has anyone informed them and the other brands of what's going on?
Lets see how fast the loli squad gets in here to defend their precious burando and ignore that this is the most valid point made in the entire thread.
These brands are working with AM because its a great opportunity for them. If you don't attend 50 other girls will gladly take your spots in the fashion show, tea party, etc. You want to show them you are mad, stop giving them your cash and tell them why.
Let's say the brands some how had contracts before the blog posts (even though the blog post showed up maybe a month or so after AM).
Why not end the contract? Why not cut their loses early? If these companies truly cared about the well being of their customers money should be of no issue. We pay thousands of dollars. Are we not worth it?
No it's not. Once guests are announced, they're committed like they got AM pregnant. They won't/can't back out and let anyone down. It's shame on them for being quitters, and makes them guilty of smearing AM's reputation. It's the same reasoning it took Angelic Pretty so long to make a statement about replicas.
Brands kinda don't care about overseas customers actually. They could easily survive being a Japan only niche market. Sure they'd downsize, but they live on customer loyalty, not moneymoneymoney.
Plus now that they have China, they really don't need to care about us.
The Leighs are shitty, but if you boycott the brands because of their actions, you're giving them more control over the lolita community, not less. Don't give them that kind of influence. Boycott AM, sure, but don't try to hurt the brands over the actions of someone they have no control over.
Misako had no idea that she was suppose to go to the grand tea party in Germany. She had already been announced for a couple of months. John just assumed she would go. She only knew about it when someone brought it up at AM
Lynda went on rufflechat and told people to write to AP and gave out an email to contact them with to ask that they not come to AM, and gave people explicit instructions on how to format their message so that it would be read.
Nope, AP USA and AP Japan are (mostly) separate entities. Lynda is just as bad as the Leighs- the only reason she runs AP USA is because of the same underhanded bullying tactics John uses. If AP had their way Lynda wouldn't be anywhere near them.
Misako gives no shits. Screens from AM thread from a few months back.
It's called donations. If you want the other conventions to grow bigger and push out AM donate and help then instead of just signing a stupid petition.
People are still going to go to AM for the cosplay regardless of what the Lolita community does.
