Anyone working on anything during the hiatus?
See any SU cosplayers on Halloween or at any recent cons?
i like this rose wig's size and style, but i have no idea why its different colors
awaiting cute tiny peridots but afraid theyll see it as an excuse to be lazy
Currently working on Peridot; in a way I can be both versions on the day.
I'm also buying my friend her Jasper cosplay supplies for Christmas so she doesn't stress about the cost of the wig and sorts. Only problem is I'm stumped on the colour of the wig. I'm going Arda since they do the long wig (she's a stiffler for accuracy and she's really tall so the Delilah is the perfect length) but I'm wondering if I should get the White/silver and dip dye it to get that pink tinge? Or get the wigs as the colour?
Anyone have any advice? I've also looked at lightest of light blonde. White on its own just doesn't look right to me.
I threw together a Rainbow Quartz for halloween but I liked it so much that I might also bring her to a convention.
What, besides the wig, could I change to make my outfit stand out? I went with purple sparkle mesh instead of iridescent organza over fear of wrinkles. Should I keep it, switch to white mesh, or look harder for quality organza?
My makeup was posted before and I'd appreciate honest feedback on that too.
I'd dye it, none of the existing shades look orange enough. Maybe just a quick dunk in tangerine Rit.
Yeah honestly every other part of the fandom has been great from what I've seen, its always fucking Tumblr that ruins it for everyone. Especially odd because SU has such strong themes of love and acceptance, yet a few people miss the fucking point.
i like your poncho thing. maybe go for light blue instead, but it looks cool as is, and the rest of the outfit looks nice too. your wig looks great color and lace front wise, but i would tease it more to add more volume. makeup wise, i would say dont be afraid to use more- rainbow quartz is super over the top and colorful, so using a lot of makeup isnt out of place. your face would look great with some feminine contouring (pic related) to soften your features and make them look better on camera. use eyeliner, mascara, false lashes, and contacts to add extra oomph to your eyes- adding falsies to the second set of eyes also helps them look more real. the false eyes look cool though- are they prosthetic? id rotate them a bit so that the outer corners aren't so downturned. other than some makeup stuff, it looks good!
i remember someone complaining about pearl cosplayers wearing false lashes since she doesn't seem to have a lot of makeup on, but this blows all those complaints out of the water
im getting the feeling that something bad happened with her paint and she had to use a bad backup- her middle part is a completely different color. either that, or she just cannot even remotely color match
Still working on Peridot/Tinydot. It's almost done but I'll redo the tube fingers for a better fit. Debut is in about one month.
The boots bother me and will be redone completely after the con.
she's not first or best. hanari got first a while ago and looks much cleaner. miwa's stuff always looks rushed and loose.
Reminds me of this one. I only have the version I pointed out all the photoshop on though.
Anyone know of a good tutorial for Rose's Sword? My gf and I are planning to do genderswap Steven and Connie for Ohayocon. Her outfit is pretty easy, and we have materials for the cheeseburger backpack on the way, but apart from wearing a mint green shirt and round glasses, I need Rose's Sword to get across the fact that I'm Connie. Any other tips would be appreciated too. We aren't brand new to cosplay, but obviously not super experienced either.
Well then yes I completely agree with you.
When I did Pearl I had mascara, eye liner coated over with pearly coloured eyeshadow and a bit of nude lippy and it seemed pretty okay for Pearl.
I get she's supposed to be pretty and flashy but you can (and they have) gone overboard. Rose, Jasper and Amethyst I feel can easily pull off false lashes but the rest can be toned down and still look good.
nah, most of the 'sjws'(lol) are pretty pissed off about people being assholes in fandom. most didn't even know zamii before this.
>had full Amethyst costume
>spent a week crafting an accurate whip
>got wig, styled, designed costume
>bodypaint makes my sensitive skin break out into horrible, painful rash and I throw the entire costume in the garbage and stop liking Steven Universe anyways
Haven't even tried to cosplay since then. Obviously should have tested it in a small spot before it got that bad but dang anyone else have this happen to them? Big downer
why wouldn't you sell the costume if it was as good as you make it sound? might as well try to make some of the money back instead of just tossing it. and what paint did you use? my skin is pretty sensitive but stuff like snazaroo is hypoallergenic
obviously not ever face is going to appeal to everyone, it's pretty silly to think all of /cgl/ is going to agree on one face. i think they all have some virtues. genk has a pretty good peridot face in my opinion, but i know other people don't like her and prefer hanari/miwa/hamsterparade based on what they think peridot would look like irl
I'm hoping I can throw together Cookie Cat for ALA, and I wanted to do something a little more inspired by Buzz Lightyear. I'm just having trouble figuring out that slidey dome thing he has on. Does anyone have a tutorial to make something like that? Or if something exists that on its own that looks and functions like that? I'm drawing blanks all over the place about what it could be.
Maybe if you're able to pick up one of those giant acrylic ball/domes they use for lamps, and have a careful method to cut it into quarters... you might have something. Otherwise if you're okay with it not being transparent, paper mache a yoga ball or something a bit smaller that suits the fit of the look.
This might not help at all but in my country Lindt, the chocolatiers, bring out these massive balls of sweets at Christmas, and the actual ball is made of plastic, in two halves, that might be big enough. They might not be, I can't remember the size. But one half or the whole thing might be enough to make a semi-sliding dome, even if it doesn't fit over your head. http://www.lindt.co.uk/shop/our-brands/lindor/lindor-xl-maxi-ball-milk-550g
My friends and I have decided to go as skinny Rose, white Garnet, skinny white Amethyst, and fat black Pearl.
We're gonna see how many SJWs we can trigger. And show the world that not all the fandom is full of morally self-righteous bullies.
people like you annoy me more than the actual annoying SJWs holy shit. you're not even cosplaying them because you like the characters, youre cosplaying them out of spite to piss people off, which probably won't even happen. i'm medium sized and i cosplay rose because i love her, and ive gotten only two piddly complaints on tumblr. your group is probably going to look awful as you run around trying to **trigger** people instead of actually, you know, enjoying a con and cosplaying?
i love the show too, and worry that someone will think im some crazy SJW, but i wouldn't coordinate a whole group with people cosplaying characters they dont look like just to hopefully get some kind of reaction. and if you're so tired of SJWs whining, why are you trying so hard to get them to make more of a fuss about your ill-suited cosplays? it's best to actually just make good cosplays and behave decently at cons- that's going to make people think better of the fandom, not seeing a fat black pearl and a thin rose.
>why are you trying so hard to get them to make more of a fuss about your ill-suited cosplays?
Cause ignoring them hasn't made them go away, it's only empowered them. So let's do what we do best, and mock them.
Besides, it's not like we'll be wearing blackface. Or whiteface. It'll be edge enough that if they do explode again, it'll look as insane to normies and neurotypicals as their attacks on zamii did.
We just need to find someone with a really really small nose to cosplay Connie. (Finding a skinny Steven should be easy.)
you really want attention, huh? there have been so many skinny amethysts, thin roses, white garnets, etc. etc. that didn't get backlash because there was nothing really inflammatory about your costume. you're nothing new, except most of those ones at least were cosplaying because they loved the characters. and for christ's sake, my original question still stands. if you don't want to look like you're part of a crazy fandom, why are you kicking the hornet's nest and trying to stir up more and more drama? the best thing to do is ignore it and go about your cosplays for fun. eventually something new will come along that will take the bad fans elsewhere and you can enjoy su in peace.
>go about your cosplays for fun.
It is fun! If no one gets angry and no one notices, then we have a fun day in costume for a show we've been planning to cosplay anyway. If some cool people get the joke or some assholes get triggered, even better.
If there's no backlash, we still win.
...I'm here forever, aren't I.
please. stop posting. you're not unique or clever, it's so cringey when people post on various boards that 'omggg im going to trigger the SJWs!! they're going to be so angry that im doing this very mundane thing!' they never get the reaction they were looking for from SJWs and the rest of 4chan doesn't give a shit
>pic related, going to picture dump to hopefully end this stupid argument
pretty sure this is a gull, she did a good job on the bow
>yfw the peridot and jasper would have been way better suited for their bodies if they switched costumes
pretty sure this was posted in the last thread, but it's cute so i'll post here too
This just popped up on my dash on tumblr and I just had to bring it back here.
first AU cosplay i've seen so far
and one of the first gemsona cosplays i've seen. the other one i've seen is being posted next
I really like this group, are there better shots of them?
This is my favorite silhouette so far. Way better than >>8697993. Her dress shouldn't be nearly that big!
What is with all these Garnets with no puff sleeves?
Excellent wig. It looks so fluffy!
The visor might be lozenge shapes of acrylic that are only curved one way and therefore only give the illusion of conforming to a sphere, if that makes sense.
Did she pay money for that suit?
Self posting, I did a quickly thrown together amethyst for halloween, i really want to do her properly for a con in the future
You avoided my number one pet peeve with Amethysts, the gem placement. So many cosplayers seem to stick it way up on the sternum when it's actually nestled right where her cleavage is.
THE ARMS. THE GOOGLY EYE.
to whoever was unsure about peridots visor being on her visor since it's not skin, we have seen alexandrite has gems on her gloves. so that might not be a design rule.
she actually makes a good sugillite. not great, but i feel like with a few changes (wig styling, better arms, better eyes, shoes) she would look really god since she has the body for it and her clothes seem good
I think with Alexandrite and Peridot's gems that it isn't that the gems are placed on the clothes but that they're cutting through them. Like, there's a gem shaped hole in the visor/gloves.
I keep seeing this piece of shit cosplay everywhere I go, why do people keep praising it?
The body suit isn't even accurate
>no puff sleeves
>star 2 fucking huge
>lol at those heels
>leg split doesnt sit right on her body
>entire bodysuit is obviously ill fitted and terribly made
BUT OMGZ A POC GARNET
re protection: i'm not sure gems are capable of covering their gems with clothing. pearl was on a battlefield and didn't put a helmet or protective armour on despite her knight fetish and fragile form
To be fair her costume was just for Halloween, it's not bad for Halloween. Everyone on tumblr is just shitting themselves over it because she's really popular there anyway. It's not because she's POC, it's because she's one of the POC they worship anyway to ease their white guilt.
>I keep seeing this piece of shit cosplay everywhere I go, why do people keep praising it?
Because she's really pretty. Happens in cosplay all the time.
Peridot is certainly not punk rock enough for an outfit that cool.
This one is more in character at least.
i find it hard to believe someone saw this and immediately assumed they were talking about the show for no reason
like unless it was tagged with steven universe, there's no possible reason for someone's mind to jump right to "they are talking about jasper the character"
she already has thousands of followers because she's pretty but the brownie points are probably there too.
This cosplayer isn't rocky enough to cosplay the temple. Only sedimentary people should be allowed.
Granite, it is a good makeup job, but I've had it up to here with this schist, people slate-washing characters and taking away our geological representation.
so im a guy and im thinking of cosplaying sugilite or malachite (still deciding) but i figure i would need shape wear, but i know nothing about it. could someone point me to the right direction? like reccomendations, where i can find it etc.
if she had spent about 2 more weeks on this, it would look amazing
all the lines look too rough, like she rushed through all the measuring and cutting o be first to cosplay.
people don't usually remember who was first to cosplay something but they do remember who was the best.
So the girl who CBC created the Rose wig for is almost done with her costume. Thoughts?
i know the wig is pretty canon to size, but it looks so weird to me. i dont know if its the color, differences in curls, or what, but it makes her face and body look so small in comparison. the dress is pretty lackluster, not the worst i've seen, but not especially amazing either.
why is her skin photoshopped pink? otherwise i agree with anon, the wig looks more balanced when its brushed back like how it is in canon. rose actually only has 2 tendrils that go over her shoulders, not half her hair
i feel the same way- i know there's some anon who goes on and on about how ~*unadorned*~ rose's eyes are, but i feel like makeup and some natural false lashes are necessary. it's just so sad to see a huge dress and a huge pink wig surrounding a pretty plain face.
I don't think big makeup is always necessary but with a wig of that size yeah, it would help not drown her out. >>8703195 doesn't seem to be wearing much makeup either, but it works because her wig is much smaller. That being said the "not pretty enough to cosplay" comment is stupid IMO. People are going to dress up even if they don't have the prettiest features.
yeah >>8703195's wig does help with it, but she's also wearing some eyeshadow, has her brows filled in, is wearing eyeliner, etc. she would probably look worse if she wasn't. >>8703511 isnt ugly by any means, but just looks plain in a full, huge costume but wearing no/minimal makeup. her face would look normal in day to day life, but for cosplay it just needs to be stepped up
Anyone else kind of really annoyed how black cosplayers who cosplay Garnet don't paint their skin maroon yet we feel fine with calling people out on 'blackface'? I' black and this shit really annoys the hell out of me.
am i the only one who wishes garnet looked a little more like sapphire and a little less like ruby? desu she looks like just a larger ruby.
also i feel like that one is a bit too red. you have to compensate for your actual skin color, so white people cosplaying garnet really do need to mix in a bit of brown with the red. this one is too bright red.
idk, if you're talking about the girl i think you're talking about, her garnet was literally black skinned. not red, not even reddish brown, but straight up trying to match the skin of a real dark black person, and that particular cosplayer had done the same thing ni the past.
if your garnet is red, it's fine. but painting your white skin brown to cosplay a character that isn't even brown just seems like a realoly poor decision, almost like she was trying to stir controversy,.
tag dumping to drown out annoying troll
i think this was an anon that posted earlier. you make a cute amethyst
finishing my dump for now with this ultimate nightmare fuel
whoops, forgot one. pretty much the only sardonyx cosplay i've seen that isn't a horrible mess
Eh, it's not a huge deal, but if you've seen the show it's pretty obvious how the swords are supposed to be held. Hell, if you've ever seen Pirates of the Caribbean, or anything else featuring sabers, it's pretty obvious. Just comes across as kind of moronic.
I really like that this Jasper has gone to the effort to keep the gem in a plausibly nose positioning. Even if it means trimming the bottom of the gem it looks better than the high or floating ones.
You are really taking a lot of personal offense to this. If anyone has an obsession here, it's you.
You did something wrong and looked like an idiot. Put on your big girl panties and deal with it.
there are already so many downright terrifying tiny peridots
these props look cool
I think they mean the concept of gold freckles on Lapis. It's not canon, but it would be a cool twist if you wanted to stand out, since actual Lapis Lazuli has gold flecks. If it's done well, I think it might look cute
The concept is cool but I feel like it'd be impossible to pull off well. Bold freckles like the example pic look bizarre against the blue, while subtle freckles won't show the color at all. Maybe if you went hog wild with it and covered huge portions of your face in tiny flecks it'd look both gold and natural, but most cosplayers only want the kawaii animu nose bridge freckle smattering.
gekroent's kind of done this before, but it looks like she mixed in some blue and silver to even it out. and yeah, for some reason freckles are an extremely sensitive topic on here- people get in arguments over size, placement, etc. the 'put a few freckles on cheeks and nose and absolutely nowhere else' is a weird trend but putting sparkley bits all over your face and body might result in weird photographs and might distract from the rest of the costume or the cosplayers face
more to come since its easier without the legs and arms to make
these are what i mean when i say tinydot breeds more lazy cosplays. not that it cant be done well, but it just encourages more people to do shitty cosplays since it requires way less effort than her limb enhancers
they still have to make the wig look good
I think that's my beef with the execution of this style - at first glance it just looks like the makeup is smudged. I think a deep gold could be cool but I'm also in the camp that only likes small, natural looking freckles, not the huge chunks like this.
looking at this idk if I should be happy about not having to see more crap enhancers
I'm pretty sure anon's point is that anyone who looked at the sword for two seconds should intuitively know how to grip it, so the fact that she didn't is stupid and looks dumb. That being said, using the wrong grip is nothing to go into a frothing rage over and desu nobody is getting their panties into a twist over it except you. NGL it sounds like you're whiteknighting pretty hard or you're the one in the photo.
Wait, do you actually think she's holding the sword correctly, or do you think it's "wrong" to point out someone's costume inaccuracies? Both are moronic but I'm curious which one you meant.
