Help me /ck/, what the hell is this?
I've been seeing it every single day for virtually all my life and I have no idea what it is for.
Not even my great-grandmother knew what this is.
hey co/ck/s, i'm heading to college soon and i'll be living with 3 other guys in this house. I've never really cooked for myself so what are some nice recipes to make when you are a college student with a small-medium budget?
If you want something easy, I usually go with a piece of fish/meat, 1 veg, 1 carb on a plate. You can roast a whole chicken if you've got an oven and break it down into 2 breast pieces and 2 legs, enough for 2-4 meals.
Think about what you would like to eat and your favourite foods then google recipes and try them. Some youtube channels to try out are Foodwishes and cookingwithdog.
Everything you make will be terrible, because you have no taste and no experience shopping or cooking. Also it will be expensive, because you're not used to managing a larger and fridge, so extra ingredients you bought for one meal will go to waste, instead of being used for another meal.
This is OK. Fucking up is how you learn. My recommendation is to cook vegetarian for the following reasons:
- less likely to food poison yourself through improper handling/storage/cooking
- less money lost when a fuckup goes into the trash
- you'll be eating enough fast/convenience food anyways, so you'll need some vegetable fiber in your fucking diet anyways

Mine is Talisker 10 yo because I'm coming out of an Irish whiskey period and the heavy peat tastes so goddamn good.
That stuff is really nice, don't be tempted to buy the Storm as it is a lighter version.
I like Lagavulin 16, but Aberlour 10 is a very nice cheap daily drinker.
Best I have tasted I think would have to be Highland park 18.
over christmas I had a bottle of pic related. Really full flavoured and complex. One of the best I've had.
Going to try to make stew for the first time tonight, with a very limited understanding of what making stew entails. Picked up some meat and a few veggies this morning; the rest is what I have lying around that seems potentially stewish. Wish I had beef stock, but oh well.
Here's what I'm thinking: cook the sausage, take out, toss in chopped jalapeno/garlic, flour and brown beef, add 50/50 amount of beer/chicken stock plus maybe some tequila and chipotle tabasco, let it chill for a bit, toss in chopped vegetables, let it chill more, add back in the sausage, season it, then wa-lah? Would that make stew? Do I need to add water at any time? Any critical errors in thought?
I'd put a bit of cook on the onions and carrots around the same time you do the jalapeno and add the garlic last. don't over do them, just let them heat through. Otherwise you'll end up with thick broth and no substance because it all cooked down into nothing. Ask me how I know. Stout and chicken stock would be an interesting combo, I would have went with beef stock, but I can't say you're wrong. It may be bretty good. The only other thing I might do in your situation is deglaze with the tequila,...

If I were you I would:
Flour and brown beef and set aside
Brown sausage and set aside
Put veg in pot and cook for a while til a bit softer/onion browned
Then add meat to pot again, cook for a few mins
Deglaze with beer
Add stock and herbs
Simmer or cook in the oven on low for as long as you have - preferably a few hours minimum
I've been living off the 'meal deal' at the local grocery store. I usually get a smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich, 500ml of coconut water and a little pot of melon and grapes or mango for £3.25. What other foods should I add to my diet? I am worried I am not getting enough nutritions.

It would take three hours to get through the grocery store. You'd always get behind the old/fat/indecisive/unaware/incompetent customer that doesn't know wtf is going on or what aisle they're on.

They fed us at work yesterday! I've never seen so much catered food in my life. Doesn't this look good?
Are any of you lucky enough to have a job -- aside from food service -- where food is free a lot of the time?
1.) Soups come frozen in bags, I don't know the recipes.
2.) While the pastries and breads actually are made in the restaurant, those are made by overnight workers and I never snapped photos of the recipes.
3.) Yes, we stop using gloves on your stuff within 30 minutes of close.
Classic salad is the best deal due to a bug in the register system. Buy one and ask for the following:
Everything on the side
You'll get a second salad free. This works for all salads, but cheeses and meats do have a charge for getting double, so it'll cost more than one salad but less than the two you're getting. Danishes are okay, but those things are calorie dense. All pastas are microwaved.
