How come almost every source disagrees hugely on how long to cook steak? It ranges from 3 minutes for "medium" to 8 minutes for "medium-rare", for the same cut, at the same cooking temp.
I want to sear some rib-eye my dad got for me and I want it medium-rare. Can anyone help?
using a recipe for steak is like using a cheat sheet for cunnilingus. just fucking get in there and listen. on the other hand it is important that your steak is dry and you don't handle it too much.
Every source disagrees because there are too many variables. How thick is the cut of meat? How lean is it? How hot of a pan or grill did you start with? How efficient is your stove or grill at distributing hear?
You judge based on squishiness. Compare it to how squishy parts of your palm and wrist are, and you'll know it's doneness, as seen here : https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=O8YQX-QgbXc
Is food wishes /ck/ approved?
so I browned the butter for my KD and it tasted and looked exponentially better
is there anything else I can do to it to make it even more good/different without costing much or anything?
it'd be nice if I could make this garbage almost entirely unrecognizable/gourmet so I can feed it to other people for CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP
This. It makes all the difference. I like to melt in some blue cheese, gives it a nice smokiness.
You can't really make box mac and cheese unrecognizeable. Either embrace it and doctor it a little, or don't eat it at all.
>Kraft changed the recipe and it tastes like hot garbage
>Loblaw's had a stash of the old KD and sold it under their store brands but they've long since run out
Just drown it in hotsauce, the burning will distract you from the sadness.
What are you thoughts on Bison? Is is far superior to regular ol' beef? Is beef better? What are some good Bison specific recipes?
This shit is legit. Cheap ($3.77!) for 1-2 meals. Easy to make, very good for frozen food, and a bunch of flavors. I think I found my new go-to dish.
oh la-di-da uncle pennybags thinks $4 is cheap. Fuck you I have to support two adults on less than that per day. You're just like my boss with his rich family who don't know what money even means.
You have to choose one canned food to exclusively eat for the rest of your life, what do you choose?
having these and sour apple Gatorade for diner tonight
6.5/10 slightly better than deviled ham
1.99 with tax at dollar general
How do you feel about the new name for best beer?
How about a nice pepperoni pizza for lunch today /ck/?
What's in your fridge /ck/?
What do you consider cooking staples?
a thawing chicken thigh
a bowl full of minced veggies (stir fry is for dinner)
I'm poor and autistic, so i buy the same few ingredients every week and make the same three meals every day.
the monotony doesn't bother me, but I feel as though i'm not getting a properly balanced diet.
the vitamin pills take away that feeling though.
This is a thread dedicated to the mighty chicken wing.
Post your favourite way of cooking them here. I'm Scottish so have no doubt you guys will have something to say about my method/ingredients but I like them the way I do them.
I'm open to new suggestions though as Americans are good at this kind of thing.
Pic related- how mine look when done.
I use franks hot sauce, celery salt, garlic.powder and cayenne pepper for my initial marinade.
Half a bottle of franks
1.5 tablespoon of celery salt
2table spoons of garlic powder
1 tablespoon of cayenne
A couple of tablespoons of cider vinegar. -I've ran out of that so am using white wine vinegar for this batch.
Vegan/Vegetarian /ck/s do you guys even exist -also what did you eat today?
Breakfast - Blueberry and Banana Smoothie
Lunch- Tofu teriyaki noodles
Dinner- About to eat now... Might have beans coz I don't feel like putting effort into dinner
Anyone care to share some recipes?
Relax anon I'm not the kind that shoves veganism down your throat
if you do this in my sushi bar, I will kindly ask you to GTFO.
>To mix or not to mix? The correct technique is to place a small amount of wasabi on each piece of sushi with your chopstick before eating. These days it is quite common for people outside of Japan to mix their wasabi in soy sauce as a dipping sauce for the sushi. I tend to do this myself and although not technically correct, it is acceptable.
So you can do it, but people who know will snigger at you behind your back.
What are weird things you eat raw from the container/jar?
I eat these straight from the jar with a fork. So amazing.
How can I convince my family to eat proper food?
Every day with them it's McDonalds, Church's, KFC, or Hamburger Helper. I tried cooking good food before, and even during Christmas I cooked Beef Wellington. Half of them threw out their piece because it was "undercooked and bloody" even though I had cooked it to Medium just for them. Every time I try to cook them something nice, they turn it away and complain it has "no flavor". To them, flavor is dumping a ton of salt and pepper sauce on something and calling it a day.
Is there no...

Going to try making mead soon, i want to make a few batches at once.
What fruit and honey combinations should i try?
After a nice Sunday afternoon of LARPing, my fellow paladins retire to our Lord's castle to quaff several hearty flagons of the golden saccharine elixir that is Mead.
Pure Mead made only from the divine honey originating from a local noble apiary is my sole delight on this planet (aside for chivalrous deeds and quests for my Lord).
Our sole female comrade, the Cyber Paladin Sinclair de la Derriere, has made Quince Mead. We would never bring shame upon such a strong and dare-I-say handsomely bequeathed female, but I am afraid it was rather poor quality. Perhaps aging it for longer and racking more frequently would have made this elixir more palatable to the discerning palate that is our Knighthood.
Is it weird to eat alone?
I don't like being bothered while I eat but I also don't want to look weird when I eat alone.
I usually get my food to go and drive home so I can eat in peace. I even do this at work and lose an extra hour off my pay just so nobody sees me eating.
How do you eat alone?
>Is it weird to eat alone?
> I also don't want to look weird when I eat alone.
Nobody cares. You're worrying about nothing.
>How do you eat alone?
I go to a restaurant. Order. Eat. Pay. Leave.
What do you nourish your body with when there's work to do?
A cold, light and refreshing rockstar for me please
Alright boys, i'm starting to get weirded out by myself.
Whenever I blackout drunk I do some really weird shit. Almost every time I go knock/bang on my parents bedroom door , I have no idea why. They tell me in the morning and I have no recollection of it , and have no idea why I would do that. They say I usually just knock on it but last night after knocking the night before, starting violently banging on it. WTF?
Also I checked my internet history, and even though I passed out around 1am, between 3-5am I youtubed some seriously hardcore black death metal...

5 most essential foods:
Who's the better cook, you or your gf/bf?
In our case it's me, at least in everything besides baking. She has zero confidence cooking any sort of meat protein and her flavor combos are limited. My knife/prep work is better/faster too
Is Trader Joe's worth shopping at? I feel like the produce and meat sections are a joke and a lot of the stuff people get there is frozen/microwaveable stuff of questionable quality. Anytime I go there, I end up having to go to another grocery store too because they don't have everything that I need.
Here's the current line to get into my favorite BBQ place.
How long would you wait in line for a restaurant? How long have you waited in the past?
P-please drink our government-subsidized milk guys. I-it's good for you, I swear
>angry about milk
>doesn't have pure white skin and can't process dairy
What meals do you cook together with your partner?
Is it an enjoyable experience or is it stressful for you?
Do you always have set roles (i.e one always handles the chopping etc)
Pic semi-related, for fun we try to recreate dishes we've had from restaurants and cafés we've been to. Most of the time we do more quick café style stuff, but the goal is to get into more complicated dishes.
We swap who does prep and who does cooking around since we're both pretty agreeable and laugh our mistakes off.
I don't have a fucking partner you stupid piece of shit. Fuck off back to facebook or reddit or twitter or instagram or anywhere else but here you faggot. We don't want shit threads like these clogging up this board. Oh wow, you have a girlfriend, how amazing! Do you want a fucking medal or something? Nobody gives a shit how many times you fuck her every day and how wonderful your relationship is. We don't give a fuck. You need to stay in your normie containment zone you dumb fucker.
>still hating BASED Cincinnati chili and three ways
Lololol stay edgy you hipster fucks. This is absolutely and totally delicious and fuck you and your """"distinguished palate""""
Depression era trash. You can redeem bad chili to some degree by putting it on cheap hot dogs, but putting it on overcooked spaghetti with a mountain of shit quality cheese doesn't cut it.
I was all excited to try this when I first visited Cincinnati, and couldn't believe people crowed about something so awful. It's not as bad as an Italian Beef sandwich in Chicago, but it's pretty fucking close.
One thing I've noticed is that a lot of men who cook stick to savory meals, grilling, etc. They'll use the oven for lasagna, ribs, and the like, but they never make cookies, cakes, or pies. Women do all the time, though.
Why is that? Do men just have less of a sweet tooth? Are desserts seen as more "feminine"?
Do you ever bake desserts?
Never bake myself, waste of caloric budgeting. I think women bake because there is less room for expirimentation, while still letting them indulge with visual creativity.
>tl:dr baking is for weak minded, also known as women
I bake all the time, because I'm a fat fuck who likes sugar and likes sharing sugar with other people.
Thing is baked goods are completely nutritionally void beyond their calories and are effectively poison.
Post your breakfast cu/ck/s
I'm having poached eggs on sourdough toast with smoked salmon and a pinch of Himalayan mountain salt. Also a nice big mug of black coffee.
i usually do skip a nice breakfast
that being said, my day normally goes better when i have a nice big breakfast. for the short time i did do a good breakfast every day for a month, i swear i felt healthier and thinner.
Is sous vide a meme?
>not using only the finest meteorite knife forged in the fires of mount doom and quenched with unicorn tears
but seriously, how does one convince themselves to buy something so overpriced when a cheaper knife that does the same job works just as well
Morons will buy anything the media tells them to
>as you can see by my diet of exclusively Great Value dried beans and canola oil, and my kitchen consisting of a hot plate and a lodge pan and a $6 ginsu knife I fished out of a dumpster, I'm a better cook than you spoiled trust fund babies
Whatever you need to tell yourself to get you though the week, anon
TL;DR: new job leaves me living in hotels half the year. I don't want to die of heart disease from fast food. There's no real way for me to make food in the hotel rooms.
I can bring a hot plate, a few knives, and a few (small) pans. Maybe a pot. Hotels typically have a microwave too.
What recipes can I make? Or just easy foods in general?
My new job practically requires me to live in hotels.
As you all can imagine, this doesn't leave me much in the way of being able to prepare my foods.
Now, as I don't want to die from arteries harder...

I just realized I'll be able to bring spices with me, so at least there's that.
but I also won't be able to store or bring any food or cold ingredients
this job pays ok but not THAT well so I wanna be efficient with it
