When I was in college, the pizza place I worked for was "known" locally for their homemade soups, "homemade" meant commercial sized cans of Progresso from Sysco.
Chopped a little fresh parsley, sprinkled on top and WA LA!
It looks like dogfood, smells like dogfood, hell, probably tastes like dogfood. But I love it.
This. A little plain, but good.
Ask the stupid stuff you wouldn't ask in other threads.
Why is there a limit to how long I can freeze meat ? I Live in fairly rural Scotland and every so soften there are exceptional offers on great quality meat and fish. I want to buy a chest freezer for the garage then vacuum pack my meat before freezing it.
Everywhere online says 12 months is the max for storing meat in the freezer. If the food is vacuum packed it surely eliminates the chance of freezer burn, so why is there a limit to how long i can store the food ?
The limit on freezing is based on freezer burn, vacuum packing can greatly extend how long you can freeze for. Quality will decrease after the 12 months, mostly from cell damage to the meat, but it's not inedible. It may have a funky texture, but it's not going to poison you or anything. If you can't consume meat in a 12 month period you probably have too much of it anyway. Just make sure to label and date everything you put in there, rotate it so you use the older stuff first, and you shouldn't have a problem.
WHAT KIND OF A MAD MAN PUTS ONIONS ON A SALAD??? AND BELL PEPPERS??? WHO THE FUCK DOES THIS??? WHAT'S WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE??
Hi, /ck/. I can't into cooking. I found a recipe that says I need two cloves of garlic, and I figure that means the entire clove. My mother comes along and tells me I need only two little pieces of one of the cloves, and that those pieces are called cloves. She knows more about cooking than I do, but that sounds like bullshit, so I wanted to make sure I was going to do this right when I finally tried.
tl:dr When a recipe calls for "cloves" of garlic, does it mean the entire cloves, or just the pieces of the clove that you can pull off?
For this week's cook-along we will be making a bacon and leeks pie.

Hey /ck/, who makes their own dressings?
Frying your food in LARD is healthier because vegetable oils release toxic chemicals when heated says new research
So what do you guys like to make for some healthy meals? I'm sick of these fast food threads.
How do you make your mashed potatoes?
Peel 'em, and use a mandoline to slice them super quick. They're all the same thickness so they cook evenly. Bring 'em to a boil in salted water. Let them simmer until tender. Drain and set aside. In a pot, melt butter, and add minced garlic and black pepper until fragrant -- don't burn the garlic or butter! Use a ricer to press the potatoes into the pot. Add a touch more salt to taste, stir and serve.
Canned seafood thread?
I was always skeptical but I got these today and I think I'm into it. Not that spicy but I added red yucateca and it's great on saltines. Recommendations and recipes are welcomed
Sup /ck/. I want to know what you think about American portions served in restaurants. Several people on the internet say our portion sizes are gigantic, and that's why we are all fat. But is that really the case?
I went to an upscale pub, and got their chicken tacos for lunch.
It was 2 small tortillas, with a bit of chicken and some veggies. The side was literally 9 tortilla chips, and some salsa. I honestly think that's a pretty small serving size
Or are American's brainwashed about serving sizes?
Does anyone remember pink Himalayan salt guy? This would have been 5-6 years ago maybe, posted pics of his meals every single day, used elegant glasses for milk, put cumin and PHS on everything. I want to relive the good old days. Anyone got screencaps? Google turns up nothing.
