This is it. We've caught up to the present.
There's been a lot of stuff that's gone down.
And the characters have come through it.
Through it all, this is Life with Archie...
And a character recap for good measure.
COCONUT OR BUTTER-CREAM?
B-I-N-G-O spells CAUGHT YA!
Betty's Life, also titled, Archie and the other Redhead
He's going loco that's for sure.
Archie.... that's some stuff right there.
Erm... gay HUSBAND.
Betty-Archie is going down deep.
Everyone's giving Betty guff today!
>perfect comic with Archie married to Veronica
>goes immediately into shitty comic with Veronica with Reggie and Archie in a horrible marriage to the cow
Why do they bother NTRing in their own comic
I actually do like Veronica and Reggie... but Veronica-verse just gets me more entranced.
Gee thanks Mr. Bee!
Still, Betty-verse has a great Bee and Moose.
Bella is actually pretty admirable for how just unabashed she is here.
wherein everything is coming up Jughead!
Persistence that paid off.
If nothing else that is always the thing you can take away from Archie...
That's not something you see everyday
Great impressions you're making Arch.
Fred Mirth couldn't escape it after all.
Well... he could, but let's go with the optimistic notion for now.
Those two crazy kids made it.
Veronica-verse Dilton made it back!
Glad to see he's no longer insane.
These two crazy kids made it as well.
Though which one is crazier I cannot tell.
Well, it IS a small town.
But Well Said!
Just enjoy the happy note...
Betty-verse, or, more Jughead!
Yes, yes she is. Cause Jughead is that cool.
It's no problem, I have plenty of time to do it.
Unless, of course, you want to do it. I won't stop ya.
There was an arc similar to the first "wedding" arcs where he got with the black pussycat.
It was alright, I forget was issues it was.
Mr. Bee, you ol' dog!
Good for him.
Well, no problem then.
After I finish this issue then.
Which should be in a handful of pages.
Betty's onto ya game Arch!
Cause it's a good name Jughead's sister!
And I am out! Old OP bring is gonna bring us home...
And now, the death of Archie.
If you've been following the threads you won't need the timeline, but it's great for sorting out what's happened in which universe.
And there's Memory Lane again.
Yeah, the whole forced ambiguity really didn't work for me either.
Of course one understands that they didn't want to write the same event twice I think a better way to have done it would to have done a V-shape structured issue.
Like maybe each page is half of each verse and then it funnels into the climax.
I'll let you anons in on a secret.
the best girl always has an "R" in her name. doesn't matter if western or eastern.
veronica v betty
mary jane v gwen
marceline v bonnabelle
ryoko v aeka
rei v asuka
rukia v orihime
in the case of both names containing an R, whoever's is closer to the front of the name wins.
They pretty much had both of his kids in these scenes have red hair just to not reveal whether his wife is Betty or Veronica.
This reminds me of the old Superman/Batman comics where they had Superman Jr. and Batman Jr., but refused to reveal their mothers.
Honestly, this issue's not doing it for me. They should've had the episodes done up separate, with maybe a third part of the issue dedicated to him getting shot.
Well, being two different universe (only one of which had Fred Mirth) it's safe to assume that while the people act similarly and are named the same and have mostly the same dynamics.... they are not the same.
Veronica-Cheryl probably doesn't/never had it.
Cheryl here looks like the Earth-Betty version.
Yeah it's probably Betty-Earth with veronica-earth aspects thrown in instead of the other way around.
I find it funny how they threw in Dilton finally at the end of the previous Veronica-verse story so they could align them more.
There's also the "Teen Hottie" or something that was always used in the character recaps for the Betty-verse as one of the new students... but she never had any lines so I kept laughing whenever they used her picture in the recaps.
That shot also could have hit his liver and perhaps a kidney, and a point blank.
What a way to go...
You know, I have a lot of the classic Archie books and seeing this just hurts. I mean, if you told me a few years agothat this would happen. I would never believe you.
Man, this entire issue is just. Eh. Is there one more? Because it feels like all of the AB and AV plots just came to a dead halt.
Eh, I'd be more shocked if they hadn't also had Night of the Living Dead in Riverdale.
>The MLJ founder reasoned that if a "super man" could sell copies, how much more would an "every man" appeal to readers?
That's kind of a dumb logic. People don't really look for the same things in Superman and Archie.
Three page preview of #37, the final issue.
Although it pisses me off greatly that they took a character whose light, funny books entertained me through many bored summers as a child, and brutally murdered him as a way to make their book edgier and more post-modern, I am still thrilled to see Archie return from the dead next year and take on the mantle of Captain America, once they kill the new one off again.
>it wasn't the creepy open carry private security guard who makes smirking gun-fingers at gay guys
>suspecting a character who literally didn't exist until he pulled the gun out
It's part of the variants.
The double sized official cover is archie lying bleeding out.
Here are the other variants.
The Last issue will also have it's own variants but that's it for now.
That is a whole almost 4 dollars I am not spending on tacos.
Though, considering that past week, the chance is very high that a large group of /co/ will be invested the day it comes out.
Damn good thing they shot that wigger to death.
>(Lol dying even though they shot his stomach and not any vital organs. Guess no one wanted to call paramedics till they were sure he was going to die first)
Bitch needed to be put down anyway.
>What if series ends with a death
>One year from now
>TPB is released with a whole bunch of WHAT IF...LIFE WITH ARCHIE?
>WHAT IF...Reggie were shot?
>WHAT IF...Archie lived?
>WHAT IF...Archie was paralysed?
>WHAT IF...The Punisher was there to save Archie?
No I think they mean just a few one-shots about other potential outcomes that would be released one year from now.
#37 is one year after Archie's death in-story.
And DC did One Year Later but it was a shift in status quos. This is just an epilogue.
I was a little annoyed when the shooter ended up being the bus boy, who was probably also the homophobic mall shooter, and not the shady security guy from the club who was totally legal to carry. But had to go all the way with the agenda I guess.
It was a six part arc (three for each girl) and they were alright. Felt a bit rushed and there are some moments that don't quite gel... But the first two parts for each girl do serve as an effective prequel to the series.
I wonder. Archie seemed to start trying to revive interest in the Archie brand around the time they started having trouble with the Sonic comic. Think it was intentional in case the lost the rights to Sonic?
>Pushing out the best Archie character for some token minority created not even 10 years ago
What next? Are going to replace Betty with that wheelchair chick they introduced recently?
there would have been a huge overwrought subplot about her coming out to Jughead about it.
But no, I mean I totally expect them to do it in the regular comics. But probably not, it would make jughead seem super transphobic in all the old comics and tumblr would throw a fit at the idea of trans* character actually looking like a real transgendered person that started transitioning post puberty
>started transitioning post puberty
But Ethel has always been Ethel. So.
Some people are just not super atrractive.
Personally I like her face. It breaks up the same-face-y-ness a bit.
It wouldn't surprise me. Plus I think that for all of Archie's strength in the newsstand market, it's possible that the newsstand market in general isn't quite as strong as it used to be. (have you ever noticed how the number of magazines reduced since like five or six years ago?)
I'm not too sure about that. At least, that can't be the only thing. Problems with the Sonic comic may have been coincidence and hasn't necessarily matched up with the timeline that way. Around the beginning of the lawsuit, the digests sales were doing really well, better than Sonic, really. (About 60-90k+) If anything, I'd say it was just one contribution. The others would've been the Co-CEO scandal, the drop in digest sales (About 30-40k currently). and possibly knowledge of lost contracts.
The lawsuit happened at 2010. If it were true, that would mean some of the stunts to push the brand to the wider audience would have been planned three years ago. I don't know how early they do things in advance, but that means things like the MAC makeup line, the Sabrina cartoon, and the new Archie cartoon was planned in less than three years. However, the comic gimmicks (sans Afterlife) must've been planned way before the lawsuit. So, it's hard to say.
>implying a live action life with archie wouldn't be unnecessarily dramatic shit compared to this genuinely slice of life shit.
Goddamn I hate the HBO vampire shit my wife watches.
Was... was that a possibility?
Because, weirdly, I can see it working.
Honestly I think the thing that most works against any such movie is the casting. The characters and their looks are just so... ingrained. Getting an actor to look like them would seem forced.
I heard rumors Archie was meant to have some type of teenage midlife crisis in the story. I think it was close to graduation, but there are probably many changes made to the idea since then, assuming it does get made eventually.
Also, any new news about It's Archie? Last I checked, there were new designs, but since then I've heard nothing.
>Was... was that a possibility?
In the early Life With Archie issues there were a bunch of articles and stuff. One was having fun speculating on who should play the characters and the Stephen Colbert as Mr. Lodge suggestion came up.
No clue, really. They were very vague about it.
>Teenage midlife crisis, huh? Sounds about up their alley.
If this were before Life with Archie came out, I'd be skeptical. Thanks to Archie's recent takes on drama, I'm more confident with them handling a type of teenage midlife crisis well while still keeping true to Archie.
Yeah before I don't think that Archie and some real drama could ever really mix. But after LwA I think that taking that sort of mold and placing it onto their teenage selves could work. I mean, it worked for John Hughes movies, and those were pretty chipper/colorful in places.
And whatever they do, this would have to be chipper/colorful in places.
Nothing a Necronomicon can't fix.
>The end of the good times
They're never going to take Archie out of high school, so this is pretty much the closest we're going to get. Not much an elseworlds or a what if but a Whatever Happened.
if this a genderbent universe, then yes
i have no idea if i would find female me attractive, but i would definitely fuck them
Just wanted to say thanks to the OPs for doing this whole series this past week. It's been a fun ride.
I never thought I'd be this hooked on Archie, but here I am, staying up to all hours reading it. It's too bad really that this series is coming to end. I kind of wanted to see Archie in his new job in the Veronicverse. I hope in the wrapup thing they'll say what happened to Mirth; if they got him or not.
Dilton timetravel story arc where he tries to save Archie when??
The universe neutrality of the ending was annoying.
They could have at least killed Archie twice and given each universe it's own scene instead of once completely avoiding which universe it actually is.
I really hope that each universegets their own scenes in tomorrow's finale. Even if they keep Kevin's speech the same, they at least have a montage of what happens to each.
So OP answer me this
Does that mean there is no more Archie comics ever again now?
What does this actually mean for Archie in the long run? If it's a side story or a separate universe/timeline or whatever doesn't that make his death meaningless?
Well, I'm not OP, but this is actually some sort of "What if" where we see what COULD happen if Archie married Betty/Veronica. And although this endgame only affect those two universes, and ends the comic "Life with Archie" and nothing else, it will probably bring more money for the company. I mean, it's already been proven that death of well recognized characters sell, and thus...
I kinda expect something like this to happen in other non-Archie comics, and probably a new comic series.
Archie will always be a teen in the main comic. Now we've seen all of them grow up, get married, and now die. It's Archie. Who the fuck expected him to die?
Let's not talk about meaningless since that alone, other timeline or not, is a way to end this story we never thought they would
Also if you want to get really deep into it, the comic sets up that each era of Archie, 50's 70's 80's 90's, are all different universes. Every time that comic updates for a new generation it's a new universe.
So, really, this is the death of late 80's to 90's Archie.
