I heard this was shit. Let's read it together. If it is, please join me in making fun of this. I honestly don't care about reaction images. Let's do this.
That's somehow even more disappointing.
So should I continue anyway or just delete the thread?
>I still caught it when she slipped poison into my drink
I think you have to be blind to miss that.
They were pretty enjoyable.
Isn't Fawkes also getting his hands on Spectre soon? At least his Eternal issues have been the best. I've been enjoying those.
Because in one-shot guest appearances, he usually is treated as an adversary that needs to be overcome. Ostrander's run is much more character-focused, where the mantle of the Spectre is more of a test that Corrigan struggles with. Highly recommended.
Yeah, I'm a bit worried about it because Fawkes had a habit of making magic boring in this series, but his work with Corrigan in Eternal has been pretty neat, and I love the concept and art credits behind the proposed book so I'm going to give it a shot anyways.
You'd have to be blind not to notice that fucking poison.
To be honest I'm just hoping we get more Gentleman Ghost.
The problem of the book is that the writing is really mediocre and you've some really, really dumb ideas. Like turning John Constantine into Sam Winchester, what with a demon burning his house down killing his family when he was just a kid because of him, or the Cold Flame being founded by John Giovanni Zatara who's an evil Chris Angel.
>captcha: firecumm across
Do you also try to forget that Zatana Zatara was a wizard groupie who would follow that Nick Necro fellow everywhere like a puppy, and that Necro taught everything he knew to both Zatana and Constantine, who copy-cat everything Necro did?
I think that's only Hoodoo.
that was the fucking worst part of it all. I stopped reading Constantine around issue 6, is the whole Nick Necro thing ever referenced again? it really pissed on the whole Hellblazer stuff about John not liking imitations and what made John so unique as his own man in the first place
Dude. It didn't stopped with the 0 issue. Nick Necro became the focus of the major arc that took place in JLD before Dematteis came in and he showed up again as one of the baddies during Blight. He's now one of the major enemies John has.
This isn't even bad, just bland.
Part of that is the art, part of that is the inescapable fact that a PG-13 Constantine will never be able to live up to Hellblazer.
I feel bad for Fawkes, pretty much everything he's been given at DC was a no-win situation.
I like this new artist.
I was doing other things.
Dr. Fate's in Earth 2.
>tfw Khalid is a literal retard
I'm not even gay and I want John to do things to me. What the hell?
All this Constantine doing hocus pocus flashy magic shit can just fuck off, but cutting a deal with the Riddling Butcher while it's getting ready to impale him was actually a pretty good moment.
That's Johnny Quick.
Its boring and it destroys the character.
The cover is Constantine charging up a mystical blast shaped like a pentagram... How could they get any farther from the core of the character in just the cover... Not to mention the rest of the comic.
Seeing as how we have Pandora and the Phantom Stranger here, what the hell have they been doing with the Question?
I'm talking about before that.
But "main" is kind of a sketchy area. Vertigo Hellblazer has years of stories under its belt and a vast stable of writers; doesn't that make it more "main"?
I get that continuity is a whole thing to people but when it comes to "versions of characters" continuity is less relevant. That's why, for example, people get upset when a bad movie starring their favourite cape comes out, because they consider the movies the "main" version, despite them not being in-continuity with the comic universes.
I'm just saying that your comparison was really weird. Superman: Red Son was a mini, an Elseworlds. Superman isn't a pink commie in The New 52, is he? Saying that the anon shouldn't be upset about the current John Constantine being so different when Superman was a pink commie in a mini once is really weird.
17 issues, so six left.
I'm really casual and I've just gotten into comics lately, some marvel I like, but the magical stuff seems pretty sweet. and cheers many times.
Also those faces can be pretty funny
Fuck that. They Canceled Hellblazer for pretty much no fucking reason so they could make their bland but super marketable version of him popular.
They clearly aren't interested in a "different version".
Its clear they are forcing him to be the definitive version
They were worried about confusing casuals.
The same reason DC suddenly hates Legacy characters.
John Constantine is my favorite character in comics.
And Most of my favorite comic book characters are DC.
But fuck DC so much. Honestly. Fuck them. Fuck them.
I am so mad
A more valid comparison than a miniseries like Red Son would be if the New 52 made Superman into a totalitarian fascist, with the intention of that being the status quo for him for the foreseeable future.
That would destroy a lot of the character's appeal for no good reason, and if it turns out that it makes the stories about him less interesting, then it's a change for the worse.
Taking a break for a while.
