>>70635521 Best starfire rendition I've seen so far. I would really love to see actual TT animation/episodes with her looking quite like that, clothing maybe but just that look in general. She looks really good. (except her ear is really small haha)
Promiscuous Starfire I guess, but I like the enthusiastic, bubbly personality than the whole blow-up doll impression some writers have her doing. It stands to reason that an alien from an alien culture wouldn't have the same views on sexuality than some of us do, but that doesn't have to define her completely.
Just my interpretation, but... What's likeable about Starfire is she behaves how someone in the later part of her teenage years behaves. We can relate to her, and want to be in a similar state to her.
She acts like it's her first serious relationship when with Dick in the original comics, and in the cartoon even more so. She has gone through bad shit but she became stronger for it, and has a supportive group of friends.
The reason that the arcs where she betrays the Titans in the comics and the "Slutfire, alien pirate queen" (which would normally be a really appealing thing, a space pirate queen) characterization were unappealing is because it represents the loss of innocence, the romance turning sour or pushing away friends. Of letting the fucked up things you overcame make you weaker. We don't want to be reminded of how we've become cynical assholes where we once had an idealization. We don't want a reminder of drug addiction or of being aimless in life or of emotionless sexual encounters. Reality escape wound up becoming a reflection of things we wanted to escape from. Unlike things like Bojack Horseman or Rusty Brown which can reach you on an emotional level, these darker Starfire stories just feel cheap and caustic.
>>70637092 The actual issue is too many people cling to their youthful innocence for far too long, desperately clinging to being a teenager well into their 20s. These people end up just being emotionally devastated by having to leave this period behind when they are faced with growing up and becoming an emotionally mature man or a woman. They want to stay an eternal boy or girl.
Just look at this board. So many people here still mentally view themselves as teenagers rather than as men or women. Starfire is a person like this
>>70637199 Someone edited a few mindbreak/bimbofication hentai comics by the same artist once so it's a teenage homeless girl who swears and does heroin that hooks up with the protagonist and becomes a soccer mom. Dick was diamonds m8, lemme tell you.
>>70637230 It's something you have to actively try to achieve. It's not something you hope to one day fall into. Find the man that you are, not the one you think you should be.
You should look into the archetypes of masculinity http://www.artofmanliness.com/2011/07/31/king-warrior-magician-lover-introduction/
>>70637269 Making money doesn't make you a breadwinner. If you don't offer spiritual and emotional guidance, helping your people grow to find meaning and purpose, you're not providing the bread you're supposed to.
>>70637346 >Making money doesn't make you a breadwinner. If you don't offer spiritual and emotional guidance, helping your people grow to find meaning and purpose, you're not providing the bread you're supposed to. I think I'm the closest there is to that. Most of my family is fucking nuts.
>>70637517 I suppose, but you really have to challenge your perceptions of these things to have a breakthrough. I'm still growing and learning myself, trying to experience an inner emotional transformation.
This idea that Starfire was this huge slut just because of Red Hood and the Outlaws should stop. Really. The New Teen Titans Starfire wasn't promiscuous and didn't treated sex as if it was a simple thing that she could do with anyone. Her race would mate for life. You guys understand that? It was the biggest demonstration of love one could show and would only be shared with a person they truly loved. Then they'd never ever leave that person. Starfire decided to share that with Robin and never forgot him.
The only thing is that Stafire was super hot and didn't cared much about our customs. She was big on being honest and lovable. She also liked to be nude. But her liking to wear fewer clothes didn't made her a slut.
>>70641637 You could argue that the 'mate for life' part was a cultural thing, and like many teenagers, Starfire eventually rebelled against that notion due to her time being indoctrinated by earth culture.
I think what bothered people about slutty Post 52 Starfire is that she treated fucking Red Hood and Roy like it was Meh... Something to pass the time. It wasn't this glorious emotional thing that usually happened with her.
That's the thing, though. Old comics Starfire never rebelled against it. She had other partners, of course, because Dick was a huge slut who never knew what he truly wanted, but she was always upfront with her partners that she loved another man and would possible never forget him. Oh, and these partners were always in monogamous relationship.
The New 52 Starfire and the old comics Starfire are quite different.
>>70641542 >>70641994 I really don't see how having her sole fucking reason for existing to be Dick Grayson's exotic waifu is an improvement by any means. Especailly when Dick himself became incapable of marrying her because DC finally realized that they could milk way more Batman money out of him than Teen Titans.
I'm not discussing that, though. I was just pointing out that this notion that comics Starfire was a slut is erroneous. I actually think that the whole "mating for life" is pretty stupid and limiting, but portraying Starfire as someone who has casual sex with anyone just because she's alien isn't the road too.
I mean, isn't that fucking problematic as well? "Oh, she's alien! Thus she'll fuck anything!" I mean, that'd be like saying that all humans are slut because Captain Kirk exists.
>>70642538 Pretty much this. She just wanted to fool around with Roy as a rebound thing, talked big about casual sex and not having feelings to make him not think Dick had dibs on her, and then she wound up falling for him anyway.
>>70643597 True, though even the idea that Nu52 Starfire is a slut is similarly erronous, since her actual behavior and words outside of that one page everyone posts all the time indicate that in that manner at least she's not so different than her pre-reboot incarnation.
Nope, that's a retcon. In the first issues Starfire was portrayed as someone who couldn't remember her past with the Teen Titans or even Dick's name. Jason said that her race couldn't remember anything human related. The reason why Starfire asked if Roy wanted to have sex was because Lobdell wanted to portray Starfire as a "powerful and liberated woman" and because he also wanted to set up a threesome between the three characters.
When people went ape-shit Lobdell ignored the "fucked memory" sub-plot and made Starfire/Roy a monogamous couple.
I wanted to use racist, but that wasn't really the word. I mean, aliens don't exist, right? So which word to use? I settled with "problematic" for a lack of a better word. I just find the whole "Her alien race will fuck anything without giving a fuck" really stupid. What are they? Brainiacs? No one race behave the same way across the board.
>>70643678 Or, if you actually read the issue not looking to get offended you could tell that she damn well remembered everything but didn't want to think about it, as she abruptly changed the subject and was irritated that Roy wouldn't let it go.
Hell, she even mumbled "Richard" after Crux defeated her and that was just in issue three or so.
I agree with you. The first issue was a really messed up issue where Lobdell did something stupid. It's not a representation of the entire comic.
My main problem with current Starfire is that where the old Starfire was brutally honest and guided by her emotions, the current one is pretty closed up and stoic. But i guess that's mainly because the comic is about messed up individuals finding support in one another and the old Starfire wouldn't really work with that setting.
Dude, i wasn't offended by the first issue. I even fapped thinking to the whole threesome idea. But Starfire really couldn't remember things. She was secluded on an island and her ship had dozens of Dick's costumes that she would sniff on to try to remember him. She'd remember certain things, but not everything. So it wasn't all a pretense on her part like you're saying. at least not initially.
Like where is the threesome that Lobdell promised everybody? It's pretty clear that Lobdell had a defined goal with the character that he had to change because of the back-slash.
>>70643784 She got better, though there have been some rough patches near the end, but I think she'll be in a better place when her series starts up.
I do wonder how they're gonna handle Blackfire though. I actually like how Komand'r seems to be a decent person despite looking evil as fuck and doing constant faux-betrayals only to reverse that almost immediately.
>>70643864 To be honest, that's actually one of the things I like about Lobdel: he knows when to bail when an idea isn't working out. Like Jason's whole Untitled/All-Caste thing? When he realized people didn't like it, he had Jason break his magic swords fighting Not!Raven and then pretty much say "fuck it" to the whole revenge thing. I think that one of the things that made Tynion's run so much less enjoyable, despite him being a better writer than Lobdell in other aspects, is because Tynion couldn't let go and just kept picking up plot threads nobody cared about.
...That being said, he really shouldn't have pussied out on a threesome potentially blossoming into a full-fledged poly relationship. Especially when the Jason/Roy aspects would have more than placated tumblr, though I'm not sure whether or not that was even his call.
Yeah, i agree with you. That's why i think the best place for Lobdell to be is his own little corner dealing with characters that no one else has to use. Because while Lobdell will certainly leave a plot-thread that's not working, we can't say the same about other writers. Take Supergirl using his Superboy or the current Teen Titans run bringing back Bar-Tor. That will certainly be shitty because i bet you that Pfeifer will try to address and fix the whole religious terrorist from the future plot-thread.
And yeah, i'm still kinda bummed out about him abandoning the threesome thing. I think that it would have been a lot of fun if they were a serious poly relationship. think about seeing the three of them sleeping in the same bed with Jason and Roy hugging Starfire.
>>70644145 Eh, Superboy wasn't that bad near the end of Lobdell's run, and he was outright good in Supergirl. It's just that the solicits for the upcoming Teen Titan issues look... worrying. But yeah, there's no need to bring back Bar-Tor, just say stuff like Timestorm, side effect of future's end, THE BLOOD MOON RISES or whatever and have him be a different person. I mean I love continuity most of the time, but I just don't see the point in dragging out shit that just didn't work because they're loose ends.
Like fuck, the last issue of RHaTO had Helspont show up, bitch about how his Daemonites ultimately failed to accomplish anything, and then get vaporized. And I feel like it's about time, because it's not like any other writers wanted to write stories about the Not!Skrull invasion led by Not!Frieza.
My main problem with Lobdell's Superboy is that he's basically Cable. He has such a convoluted back-story that you just can't focus on his history. It'd be much better to just create a new clone of Superman made by Cadmus and forget everything about Harvest, Superman's evil son from the future, the Superboy who's a clone made of various DNA and that once because Not!Silver Surfer and so on.
>>70644370 See that's exactly what I'm talking about. Superboy's past issues are something he has come to terms with and it shouldn't be brought up except for brief jokes about what a mindfuck his existence his. You shouldn't let his stupid past stop you from enjoying his actions in the present. I mean fuck, remember Supergirl in the 90s?
>>70635252 >When I was a kid I used to have a Starfire, and a Robin Doll. >I had a crush on Starfire >Those boobs >I would sometimes hold her next to me as I rubbed my dick on her face >I'd sit in my bed fucking her >I'd make Robin watch as I rubbed my dick against his girlfriend >I came on Starfire while Robin stood there on my desk with his emotionless stare. >I took Robin into the other room, and then I removed his head from his neck.
>>70635252 >Both Starfies exist for whatever reason. >Slut Starfire tricks innocent Starfire into taking guys who try to get back with her on incredibly silly dates. >Then she watches her former partners get humiliated form afar and laughs at them, while they wonder what made Starfire look and act so different all of a sudden. >Second Starfire could actually just be Miss Martian in orange body paint.
