Star vs The Forces of Evil General thread
Also OP, you should've opened with this image.
So, 5 eps and 4 animation errors. Am I missing any?
>tfw not Marco
>tfw will never get to fake being sick for a day to hang around the house alone, sneak into her room, go through her laundry, and pick out some panties or leggings she won't miss
You are missing tons of animation errors.
There were at least a dozen in episode 1. You just gotta look a little harder.
This series is riddled with errors. I was actually shocked when I watched it for the first time. Such sloppy animation work.
see, what the fuck was going on there?
Marco and Star just fell into the bus, and then the next scene is that, Marco very focused on doing push ups, like something is missing in that transition.
Monster arm took over for a sec.
It's far too late for us to turn back now.
>Mad there's a general for a new show
They need to flesh out the side characters a bit more. And by a bit more I mean a lot more.
Currently everyone who isn't Marco/Star is a plot device
*~THE SWAMI HAS SPOKEN~*
I wanna draw more but I'm out of ideas for her, we just don't know much about the girl.
How about Jackie trying to cheer her up after she wasn't invited to the party?
This is fine too.
Thanks but not really, man, I posted that threads ago
That I can do, I didn't remember she didn't get invited.
Especially since she's in Jackie's group, but Jackie did get invited
I want to see fanart of the girl in the beanie here.
Which is better? Marco x Jackie or Star x Jackie?
I'd say the opposite. Jackie didn't really seem to care about Marco, at least until he was puking. Plus he broke her skateboard. She's shown more interest in Star up till now. Then again, Marco and Jackie may gradually grow closer as the series progresses.
I'm curious, have there been many shows where the background love interest has actually grown close and received enough development to become an actual character defined by more than just "Love Interest?"
It always seems to be all of a sudden, or the main character realizes they aren't worth it and we never hear from them again.
Yeah, it was my first time drawing her.
Still not fully convinced of the face but I couldn't put my finger on what to change.
she will never be a mermaid, she is just a girl who likes the seashell she has.
what if we discover that she was given the seashell from a boy she really liked when she was like 5 and the boy turns out to be marco?
I meant it didn't work out in a sense that it wasn't believable to the audience, just shipping gone wrong I guess. There's no way their hook up was planned from the beginning of the show.
Strongest Episode: School Spirit
Weakest Episode: The Other Exchange
how do you know she didnt just adopt a ocean motif because of her eye color? or maybe they live near the ocean? Or maybe she just likes ocean stuff.
I like fire oriented things. I tend to like flame decals and designs and I like bonfires. I guess that means im a secret dragon huh?
tl;dr? you are reading too much into something that isnt there.
>I guess that means im a secret dragon huh?
THE DRAGON IS COMING!
Marco x Jackie, because honestly I don't care for the latter, or yuri in general. I prefer Marco and Star over anything, though.
God I hope that yuri stuff doesn't become the next zutarra, or worse, Marco becomes Mako/
Tried stitching this with minimal characters for practice.
Really? Middle school maybe, but I thought every high school had them.
Granted we had the crappy double lockers instead of the long ones. And we didn't have any in an open air space or anything.
>tfw pronouncing svtfoe as Savate Foe.
I am having a very fun time watching it. Catchy intro with fun characters going through silly plots and come together to make a nice new show to look forward to watching.
And the hiatus will never end
So /co/, who are you taking to the Remember the 90's dance this Friday?
They knew what they were doing.
Guess you weren't invited.
"Hey Marco, up for another round of 'you-know-what'?"
So where are the pictures of her clothing swapped with Skadi?
Because I need that to happen.
Do you think Stars butthole is heart-shaped too, same as with the laser puppies she conjured?
You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!
Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!
People who care so much about this are really fucking weird to me. What do you care someone's using their name? No one's trying to force you to do the same.
It's almost like they're scared they too will suddenly have to be accountable for themselves as well if other people are. Image-Board culture is cultish as fuck too.
You know threads start to degenerate into generals when the tripfags pop-up left and right.
I would hope so, yes I REALLY hope so.
Fuck off, the regulars were Kyder and MrFreeman, both who served a purpose as the former is the premier smut artist of Star, and the latter a cosplayer with a knack for arts and craft, the other three are random fucks that contribute nothing and should lay off the trip.
>Not knowing about the pasta
It sure reeks of new here.
>Pic related with Marco when?
You guys read my mind. I drew a picture based on this that might turn into a tiny minicomic. I won't post yet. You'll just have to wait and see.
Seems pretty universal that "School Spirit" is the best. But to me "Cheer Up Star" is a contender.
I liked PonyHead, after my initial viewing. Was mildly annoyed at first but she grew on me.
Weakest probably The Other Exchange Student, though I certainly didn't hate it. Just that guy.
even if its a pasta all the replies still stand.
who gives a fuck, its a lot of effort for being butthurt and some idiot thinks we will actually read the whole thing.
you are a special kind of stupid arent you?
the origins of something stupid doesnt mean it stops being stupid.
I know a lot of the good ones have been taken, but surely there are better options than worst girl.
Absolutely. It's just my least favourite out of all of them so far. I still love them all.
And this part is still hilarious to me.
Speaking of, got a little further on the wand today. I ripped the crown off already because it wasn't centered enough for my liking.
It's not even the same hair color or eye color.
Was this girl also voiced by Daron? She sounded like Sabrina who Daron voices.
Find a safe kid to keep her out of trouble.
Probably gonna start by showing her his hentai collection.
>Womenfriend at college been telling me to watch this
>ask me come over her house few times to watch it with her
>browse /co/ once in awhile
>start watching this show just now
What have I've been missing? I come to /co/ once in awhile to see what is in the loop and new but this show is pretty
funny Yes I am a normie
>What have I've been missing?
Currently airing, or recently? When did you stop watching cartoons, you probably missed a lot of great stuff.
I dunno man. I'm watching it now, and the jokes are not that great, typical everything-over-the-top stuff with half the main cast being completely retarded.
It's a bit sugary hyperactive to me, but I like how Marco is a chill guy and some of the jokes are so over the top that they are funny (thermo nuclear butterfly blast, what the fuck).
I imagine the show comes off a lot better if you are at least drunk or something - on its own, it is a bit too crazy. I have to try grabbing a few beers and watching the last few eps that way.
>Currently airing, or recently? When did you stop watching cartoons, you probably missed a lot of great stuff.
Last year sometime, I kept up with gravity falls since I didn't miss a episode.
In general what did I miss? Currently Airing, good cartoons starting in fall last year?
>I imagine the show comes off a lot better if you are at least drunk or something
I don't know if it helps a lot since I don't watch cartoons often.
The most TV I watch this year was Flash and Arrow which is super grim dark super heroes.
I only watch those cause people around me always talk about it.
I like it cause the show is literally super colorful and laid-back.
Sometimes cartoons need to be cartoons without a deep plot and deeper meanings.
I only watch 2 episodes forgive me if this cartoon has a deep plot
Colorful as fuck, there are actually some decent jokes in their, and it's a laid back no frills kids cartoon that hasn't been tainted by it's fandom yet.
Basically MLP without the horse fuckery. And you it's actually good.
>fanart of Gustav raping Marco
>for some odd reason
Considering how much Marco likes Gustav, that wouldn't even count as rape.
Anyway, seems like another gay picture for me to work on!
Seriously, I'm one of the few ones drawing lewds of the guys... But I also draw the girls, to compensate
The design and her voice, I find those cute. The way she acts is completely batshit crazy, and that isn't really cute. Even taking into consideration that she is a kid.
She has her moments but it's like she is on a permanent sugar rush.
The jokes and the visual gags can be more enjoyable IMO.
I feel like this show misunderstands what people like about shows like adventure time and regular show. Just yelling about unicorns and rainbows isn't creative or funny. What is funny is the internal logic of those shows. I do sort of like Star but I really feel like it misses the point of the trend it's riding.
My reason? a competent male lead that isn't a cringefest buttmonkey. Also, because it's a fun lighthearted show not dragged down my the fandom that latched onto it like a darkhorse ensemble (yet), it is't weighed down by a sickening myriad of headcanons and wangst or anything like other shows, no pairing wars (though the people constantly bringing up Star x Jackie make me worry), and no one is constantly saying that it's the best show ever and you should watch it.
Basically, it's new, and fun, for now, so enjoy it.
But I don't want it to go up it's own ass with lore. Why can't I have a fun colorful kids show?
>Currently Airing, good cartoons starting in fall last year?
If you like colorful, laid back series Harvey Beaks is great.
Yeah I guess I should give it a chance, I have seen an episode and it doesn't seem that bad I guess, I just hope they expand on plot devices like dimensional scissors
I agree that AT kind of sucks for that reason now. I don't watch it anymore but the first 3-4 seasons really felt magical to me. Each episode would introduce some weird character or place that was completely illogical but also somehow made perfect sense. I never found myself questioning the internal logic of the show. With Star I always have a feeling like a bunch of adults trying to be 'random' are writing it.
>I just hope they expand on plot devices like dimensional scissors
I really hope not
>Bad guys attack
Keep it simple, I don't need a whole episode on how something works.
I'm glad I'm not the only one in this thread that haven't watch a cartoon in sometime.
I felt really bad coming to /co/ to find something new then talking about it at first.
I swear /v/,/vg/ and /co/ is like three different websites
I honestly it had been a year since I had watched a cartoon, read a comic, or been on /co/. It was weird to get back into things after that much time off.
Seriously trying to clear out a backlog of comics, cartoons, video games, and anime is a bitch.
They use them to go to Quest Buy and for visiting Mewni for the Diaz anniversary. It also comes back up that Pony Head and Star were never supposed to have them in the first place, which while not being a huge plot point I'm glad they didn't just forget. Show is good for doing quick, fun stories while not having plot holes.
>bought those spider verse comics when I first heard about them from a friend
>still never read them
>Sitting in the same plastic bag I bought them in on the side of my desk
I know what you mean, I still never open up Mario Kart 7 or Xenoblade for N3DS
Honestly that is my fault for buying 75+ hour long game that I don't have time for at all
>What is funny is the internal logic of those shows.
What internal logic? That regarless of the crazy shit they get into and sucessfully overcome, Betacai will always be beta? That you can build up a fuckton of lore, only to shit all over it latter on while destroying Finn, IK and Marceline as characters?
Because those shows are no longer an example to follow, if anything, they are proof that cartoons that try to be deep but don't commit to it eventually go to hell.
And in that line, Steven Universe, man it tried to do right what adventure time failed to do so with the lore, but it had to fuck it all up by adding constant unnecessary angst everywhere.
Which my brings me to my main point, why I love Star vs. : It's a colorful action show with a female protagonist that doesn't feel shoehorned in any way, shape or form, with a very competent sidekick that had believable flaws while still retaining the ability to kick ass and hold shit on his own, so far the plots have avoided the typical high school shit for a more magical approach that just uses the best of both worlds, the background music is god-tier, the magic star uses is always creative, she herself being a nice mix between a girly girl and a tomboy, Marco's parents are just a blast, and the enemies aren't just bad cunts for the hell of it, but monster with surprising distinctive personalities that are always fun to watch get their shit wrecked (for me Ludo is actually the weakest of them).
It's a cartoon that knows it's a cartoon and doesn't try to half-ass some deep plot shit, at least so far, and while it has it's flaws it's still heavily entertaining, and I just love
how much latinos there are, I feel so good seeing my people as just characters and not part of some PR agenda.
The subs are kind of off at times though. Like how Brittney said "saw your zit" here.
I've got a couple of Birds of Prey arcs I picked up for super cheap still sitting around because I couldn't be bothered to read them too.
I did manage to clear out my Xbone backlog, the new Punisher run, and a bunch of classic batman comics. So I'm at least making progress. It's a struggle though man.
It's not any easier when you try and fit in work and an active social life too.
(Yes I KNOW the arm is 'broken'. I haven't gotten around to fixing/colouring it yet. Spare me.)
>she herself being a nice mix between a girly girl and a tomboy
That's what i love about Star, not many characters like her out there.
>It's a cartoon that knows it's a cartoon and doesn't try to half-ass some deep plot shit, at least so far, and while it has it's flaws it's still heavily entertaining
Here's what I don't like about Star. Her power is her magic wand which just does anything it wants. SUPER PSYCHEDELIC RAINBOW BLAST BEAM!!. PUPPY TORNADO WHIRL!! To me this isn't funny and this problem is sort of persistent throughout the show. I do like Star but I feel like it's really missing the point.
In AT when you are introduced to a character (talking first few seasons here) you are taught the rules of that character and they stick to that. For example Jake the Dog can take any shape. That's it but its also enough and its used in hundreds of interesting ways. I don't like the overly complicated lore, it's the reason I don't watch the show anymore but I do feel like it executes that brand sugary humor much more instantly believable way than Star does.
I'm not trying to insult the show I just really have this feeling that it kind of misses the mark in that regard.
>Realize show takes place in California because they always show the Bear Republic flag outside the school
>Realize it takes place in LA when they show the exit sign with a bunch of purposely misspelled LA streets
>active social life too.
>few years back
>literally played games all day and watch cartoons all day
>last year all that changed
>Actually have people talk to now and places to go
I'm not complaining cause my life is better now but
Wish I had a extra hour or 3 to fit in games and cartoons
>Realize it takes place in LA when they show the exit sign with a bunch of purposely misspelled LA streets
They most likely did this as a parody.
You actually can't use a lot of places like the hollywood sign without paying.
I mean you literally can be sued for putting it up on youtube.
I know it's a weird feeling. I try and take a weekend off once a month now just to catch up on things. Even then it's hard to find the time/
Have you ever seen that comic where two guys are playing an online game against a bunch of kids and they realize they can't win because they don't play the game enough? Then one of the guy's girlfriend walks in and says "hey you want to go to a bar and have sex?" And the guy goes "Fuck yeah!" It's kind of like that.
I don't think they'd have to pay royalties. It's not the actual "Hollywood" sign- you know the one they show in every movie where they go to Hollywood.
It's just a regular exit sign, which is owned by the state of California. I'm pretty sure the state isn't allowed to charge for that.
Here's an exit sign for "Cahooga" blvd for reference.
For kids cartoons it isn't. Granted I don't think most kids cartoons take place in an actual place. Even this is somewhat of parody.
That also makes sense with the whole Britney thing.
All this and that about her being a mermaid, are we not going to talk about the fact Oskar has vampire fangs?
One can be written off as a style choice with Jackie. Oskar... the fuck is going on with those?
>you should probably quit.
I've been planning for years, anon, but, I'm simply too afraid of death.
Just try to be patient while I just let myself get more depressed over time and refuse to seek treatment, to the point I eventually get bad enough the depression is worse than the fear.
Until then, I apologize, and try to bear with it. OK?
>no pairing wars (though the people constantly bringing up Star x Jackie make me worry)
Since it's a yuri pairing, it's offset by pretty much everyone knowing it won't actually happen in the show.
They'll probably also have to use them to visit Tom, Bunny Pirate, and Killer Robot from the theme song.
>you'll never sign her casts and keep her company at the hospital
I hope it's like the Slayers anime: Where it's mostly comedic with a little bit of seriousness at the end of the season.
Speaking of, what do you expect the season finales to be?
Season 1: Star is sent to St Olga's, Marco and Pony Head help organize a break out.
Season 2: Ludo gets the wand, destroys Mewni. Maybe we get to see Star's dad and mom help retake the kingdom too.
Chickenpox or some other disease, probably.
How is this allowed?
I'm expecting Tom to still visit Earth and demand Star go on a date with him like in the story board. Star will probably just act sweeter than she did in that.
Also there's the possibility it's Star and Marco invading the school to save Pony Head and the other princesses after they learn a dark secret about it. Star would have to screw up really hard at this point after that heart to heart with her father for them to send her there. Diaz family would vouch for her that she's a good girl too.
There was also this one.
IDK why action cartoons with female characters have to force a skirt, better just give her pants or shorts and save the effort of constantly strategically protecting the crotch area.
>Just give her pants or shorts and save the effort
But then the SJW will love the show cause it shows that females don't need to be cute and girly
Wow I just notice SJW will hate this cartoon
>better just give her pants or shorts and save the effort of constantly strategically protecting the crotch area.
That's probably why they gave her the leggings. She can still have a feminine dress, but they don't have to worry about having to avoid panty shots.
>Star would have to screw up really hard at this point after that heart to heart with her father for them to send her there. Diaz family would vouch for her that she's a good girl too.
Just turning the teacher into a troll was enough for Star to freak out about going to St. Olga's. Although, the problem was ultimately solved by Star simply never letting her parents know about it, I wouldn't be surprised if Star fucked up so badly, her parents would have to come visit earth to fix it.
Plus, as far as we know, Star's mom won't be as forgiving as her father and she said something like "We aren't sending you to St. Olga's...yet" in the first episode.
I see what you mean from a purely practical standpoint, but I dig the skirt. We need more skirts.
It'll go like this - the average pants on head retarded SJW will like it, while the serious errors of Mankind will hate it. The first will see a girl with magical power kicking ass and having a POC sidekick/friend and they will approve of it, but the latter who are serious about their bullshit will recognize that Star is actually the opposite of their ideology.
Star Butterfly dismembers the fuck out of feminism and so forth by merely existing and not even trying to be any sort of statement or propaganda character. She's 100% girly and feminine, with actual power and skill (both magic and martial), and on top of that has repeatedly done things that show she cares for others and doesn't hesitate one bit to take responsibility for her mistakes and protect or help others. Above all of that she's fundamentally a good, kind person. She's not self-serving or arrogant in any way despite the above mentioned attributes of strength/magic and being an actual princess.
Putting that aside I think Star must be really fit and strong.
So even that goes against the fat acceptance bullshit and so on.
Seriously I could praise the show for these things all day. Both Star and Marco are awesome in my eyes.
Here's a neat little scene for instance, just to illustrate how great this girl is. When the hydra attacked she first pushes Marco out of harms way and then almost gets eaten for it.
>When the hydra attacked she first pushes Marco out of harms way and then almost gets eaten for it.
Yeah, that part caught my attention
I guess is because it's usually the other way around
Problem is most serious SJW will see that push as
>hurr protecting the man she likes
Overall great show and likable characters that isn't one sided and actually protect each other during combat.
I hope that during the inevitable Raid on St. Olga's episode, most of the delinquent princesses there will become smitten with Marco because not only is he good in a fight, but he respects their feelings and is willing to listen to what they have to say (really talk) in contrast to the insincere sycophants who mindlessly agree and the condescending elders that talk down to them.
>Just turning the teacher into a troll was enough for Star to freak out about going to St. Olga's.
I kind of like that. At the very start of the show, she was fine with remorseless chaos, but with her enormous screw-up hanging over her head, she finds herself having to be more careful.
>kitty cat outfits
it's probably too late for this to reach you, but her heads a tad big and i think her breasts need to be placed a little lower on the chest
nice linework though, I'm definitely 'mirin
But she can actually communicate with him without becoming a bumbling sperg. That and she generally doesn't care about his presence one way or the other.
Like in party bus the first thing she says to him isn't even a friendly hi, more like a wtf are you doing.
Like I said before, she's serves as nothing more then a prop crush and once Marco get over her Jackie will disappear.
>Some one draw Jackie getting fired from the show.
I like that one of her major flaws is a difficulty with coping with failure.
You see it almost right away when she almost destroys Mewni and instead of trying to fix her mistake, she tries to sneak off.
I think that's a nice lesson. Cleaning up after your own screw-ups when not doing anything or running away are viable options.
I also like the fact that her powers seem to work based on her emotions. Powers work mostly when she's happy, focused or just motivated but when she get worried or sad they seem to blow up in her face...I find that endearing that Star has to learn to focus her mind fer her powers to work correctly
So a thought just occurred to me:
If the wand is no longer in Mewni, what was the wand's purpose in the first place? It obviously isn't needed there right now, so what did the queen use it for? Keeping "royal order"?
Marco writes a love note to Jackie
What does it say?
I wonder just what its limits are and how many people are aware of it. Everyone at school knows but no one tries to steal it. Tom's a demon but doesn't care about it, he just wants Star. Only Ludo seems to really crave it so far.
>Only Ludo seems to really crave it so far.
Apparently other characters will want to take it in future episodes, possibly the unseen villains from the intro or other foes.
>I wonder just what its limits are and how many people are aware of it.
I hope we see a scene of Star's mom using the wand. She's the one knows how to use the wand best, assuming she's the only one besides Star who's studied that giant magic book.
More like politics, whoever has access to more resources / more powerful army / bigger atomic bombs, gets to dictate the status quo.
Except that it is also a magical scepter so whoever owns it has God powers.
Nice. Always thought she had a neat design.
So I paused my video at possibly the lewdest place in the intro...
When all is said and done you gotta remember that star probably deep down has feelings for marco or marco may develop feelings for star.
Remember when Marco was having a bad day and star stopped at nothing to make him happy. Thats some wife worthy dedication right there. He must feel something towards her after all the times she probably did things just to make him happy or feel better.
I bet there will be an episode where either Marco or Star gets bed ridden from a flu and the other takes care of them.
true enough. People say "Name one cartoon where the main characters are together."
Recently I saw the series finally of phineus and ferb, and it was all the characters grown up and stuff and
Phineus and The mexican girl admit their feelings to each other and end up kissing and forming a relationship before the ep is done.sorry that I dont know the correct names, my main knowledge of this show comes from my little brother watching it but there was an ep on youtube that I watched out of curiousity. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrXeE_c94bE
Marco: Can you PLEASE keep your fantasy sequence out of my story?
Star: hehehe... almost done...
Sorry but this line seems too sexual.
I am become death, destroyer of worlds.
