are Dynamite trying to go under?
Of course that cunt is working on the one with the worst redesign, fucking typical.
I don't mind being rid of the chainmail bikini shit, but the cowl is a clearly bad idea. What is she supposed to be, discount Batman?
>mfw the artist actually said this
Thank fuck I don't read any of these book beforehand, feel sorry for the fans
But Leth is good at writing vampires.
yes, god fucking forbid our fictional characters dress extravagantly.
One without the cowl.
The Red Sonja one would look good if they got rid of the dumb cape and hood. Still Id prefer something like pic related. Still sexy but intimidating.
>The alien part sounds SUPER DUMB though.
She's a vampire from the planet Drakulon.
And no, you're half right. She certainly fills the Cryptkeeper exposition role in a lot of comics, but in the stories where she's actually the protagonist rather than the narrator, she's a buffy-style vampire hunter. Just, y'know, in a universe where vampires are from another planet.
All I can think of is a WW redesign.
Which industry person said that designing a costume with cosplay in mind only underestimates the skills of cosplayers?
Valiant announcing Faith got two threads reaching 500+ posts back to back based entirely on the cover. Most Valiant threads struggle to get 50 posts.
Brevoort may be an asshole, but he's rarely wrong.
I actually don't mind the Vampirella design (though I'd rather her hair be loose). Its a bit more fetishy.
I think it would look better were her emblem on the front somehow so the back of her suit had a low backline, like a halter top. Backs are sexy too.
>nuFaith exists for years
>one of the best characters in modern Valiant and not a single person /co/mplains in all those years
>she gets a mini
>SJW PANDERING REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE~ x1000 posts
People bitching about comics they don't read because "SJWs" has become a /co/ tradition at this point.
Anyone want to take bets on how many shills are in this thread right now? Like, seriously, people that Dynamite paid to go into 4chan posts and actually make it seem like these designs are original, and that throwing fans of these books and characters under a bus for Tumblrbux (that will only last a month TOPS) is a good idea?
This was how Sonja looked in her first appearance in Conan comics: chainmail shirt and leather hot pants courtesy of Barry Windsor-Smith. The chainmail bikini that became her iconic look came later at the pen of Esteban Maroto, and for obvious reasons proved popular enough to become her de facto look.
The Scott redesign isn't all that dissimilar from her original look.
>In this brave new world of make believe fantasy comic books, cleavage is not allowed
Stop. Please stop.
Isn't it a bit late to go for movie synergy with Dejah Thoris?
Since always? Vampi's original fapbait costume was designed by one of the leading feminist cartoonists of the time Trina robins. This design sucks though. They could have just covered up the boobs kept the belly window and given her pants. The hair is the worst of it though.
She existed for years solely as cheesecake, this isn't going to go over well. Going from a villain to a hero a long time ago was one thing, but to actually dress her? Fucking why?
I don't even read this shit and I'm still upset, whatever. Go put clothes on Johnny 5 or turn him into a human next you faggots. Ruin everything why don't ya
There were certainly some interesting design choices. Like Woola is usually portrayed as a lizard thing, especially in Frazetta's art, but they went with oversized pug-dog for the movie
I'll still buy the classic Vampi books because classic Vampirella had the bet artists around at the time. I won't check this out though because that picture is shit compared to the Warren old guard.
Well then someone needs to teach him the basic anatomy of the head, such as the eyes being in the middle of the head and the brain existing therefore needing space on the top of the head.
You know the difficult stuff.
It's been a weird angle Dynamite's been working for quite a while. There's Gail Simone on Red Sonja, pioneer of the chainmail bikini, the whole Swords of Sorrow with cheesecake heroines from various pulp fantasy stuff.
It's gonna be weird seeing Dejah Thoris, Princess of Mars with clothes though.
No earth Vampires still exist in her universe and are slightly different from Drakulonians. Drakulonians can't change people it was a big plot point in Death's Dark Wings which was the first Jose Gonzales Vampi story.
Don't like the artist, hate the ponytail beyond belief costume's alright but the bat symbol on the back is awful and it should have been a belt buckle instead. Crossbow is also kinda stupid, but whatever.
Generally, they're gritty fairy tale reboots with the female main characters turned into female badass vigilantes (and when the fairy tale doesn't have a female protagonist to use, they genderswap the male protagonist, such as in Robyn Hood) that wear skimpy outfits.
>I don't even read this shit and I'm still upset
/co/ in a nutshell
>I don't even read this shit and I'm still upset
>I don't even read this shit and I'm still upset, whatever.
Why should companies and writers listen to you then?
Implying ANOTHER new creative team, new bold direction or new redesigns will help those dying IPs. Its only watering down the interest in those titles, they should put them to rest for a few years or let a REAL bold creative team have some fun with those titles (e.g. Vampirella by Warren Ellis).
>/co/ getting mad at comics they don't read
What else is new
Dynamite have been doing the season volumes way before Marvel made it their standard
these SJW friendly comics will go for at least 2 or 3 months until they ''end'' and they returned to the old pulpy trash
They did some bullshit retcon in the 90s where Draculon was a section of Hell controlled by Lilith (the Semitic Mother Of Monsters and Adam's first wife) where she raised her daughter Vampirella to fight the horrors that Lilith had unleashed upon the world -- Vampi's memories of being an alien and junk were false.
Did they dump that stuff? Cos that's when I stopped reading anything Vampi (and personally, only really like her Warren stuff and the B&W mini that reintroduced her).
Hated what they did with The Rook, then, too.
>de-cheesecaking cheesecake characters
reminds me of that shit, they tried to pull years ago with the Chaos Comics characters
A huge improvement over the original, panders less to the male gaze, you look at her and you know what she's about, and she's not about satisfying your lust.
>>Did they dump that stuff?
No, but she stopped giving a shit.
The best recent run has been Trautmann's, which also uses a quite sweet redesign(though she often ends up with her classic costume for this or that reason)
Am I the only one that thought this was a pic of Clair Redfield for a second?
What if my lust revolves around knee high lace boots with thick heels, short-sleeved and short-legged jumpsuits, skintight one-piece athletic wear, and chokers?
Man, this design is early 00s as fuck when you think about it.
>panders less to the male gaze
Long time Red Sonja fan, and barbarian lover in general.
It's just so soulless and generic, she looks like a mook, and worst of all, she looks weak.
Sonja uses a Sword or a fucking huge axe, not a tiny ass spear.
She should be Female Slaine if anything.
>tfw semi nude female warrior will never be taken seriously
I get that this stuff is mainly for fap bait, but I always considered it cool as long as it's well written or just downright badass. Christ look at the Doc Savage covers were his shirts are always tattered, I just want that unbridled awesomeness to extend to women.
Hey guys what's going on in this thread?
Of course they are.
They are the first to complain that women are not represented as "Strong independant" and Warriors.
Then they cry when Archtypes like the Scantly Clad Barbarian are around.
It's fucking horrible.
How is such a thing even possible? But I guess I need to stop projecting what I consider cool onto women.
Nigga what in the fuck are you DOING.
I wouldn't be triggered if this wasn't Vampirella because that is actually rather nice, and I like the symbol now on her back.
At the same time though, and I hate to be the person holding the nostalgia goggles but it's Vampirella. How long has she had that look? Sonja makes sense given her backstory and reincarnation or whatever but c'mon.
>Liking the symbol on her back
That's the worst part, it's like firebird hood and it was really gaudy.
I know it goes against the lore, but it's a nice look.
And while I don't mind them covering up these characters (I've always thought their skimpy looks were kinda stupid, honestly; not from a "realism" perspective, I just didn't like them aesthetically), these redesigns are pretty meh. Especailly Red Sonja's. Vampirella isn't terrible, just unremarkable.
Without the cowl, though, she looks MUCH better, and I actually rather like it.
Man you're a turbo pleb if you think Vampirella wasn't worth more than fapping. Jeff Jones, Neal Adams, Jose Gonzales, Wally Wood, Alex Toth. The Warren Publication books were some of the best comics out during their time.
Dynamite is the absolute worst publisher today.
they did this stunt to "whitewash" with Vampirella and CHAOS! comics last year and it failed miserably, to do it again is just whatever man...you can tell when someone is ashamed of their product and identity, they should just close down shop and become the Oni and Image clone they dream of being.
This is solid. Not liking Vampirella. I feel like she should rock the skimpy outfit because she's an alien vampire so she doesn't care about being modest and all that. Vampires should either be scary or sexy.
She's an alien Vampire most of the time, the original 70's book was a anthology where she was in the crypt keeper roll along with going on her vampire adventures which was the A-Story.
in the 90's she started hunting other vampires and monsters as she moved to monthly action comic books.
now she's more of a occult investigator.
>Vampires should either be scary or sexy
Yeah she tosses it when she doesn't need to blend in, but when she's trying to get information and interacting with non-monsters she's modest. She just doesn't interact with people that often.
Man I'm too tired.
I thought this was another fucking Spider-Woman redesign and I wasn't even surprised.
Even stupider though, why are they completely throwing away everything in her original design?
Like whatever, cover her up a bit maybe you'll gain some new readers or something but this literally looks nothing like Vampirella.
Sonja looks fine w/o the cloak, could stand to be more muscular though.
Who gives a shit, space babes, still sexy. Those shorts look weird as shit though.
I like this one? It's just a little too "safe". Designs are supposed to be fun. Thats the point, fun. Still, the fact they feel the need to redesign cheesecake characters into not-cheesecake is fucking funny.
Trying way too hard, dude. I can defend something without partaking of it based on various grounds. I defend the rights of blacks without being black. I can say they shouldn't put hormones in meat even though I don't eat it regardless of that.
You're a fucking idiot to not understand the reason Vampirella has existed this long is because of cheesecake, it's integral to her character.
Trying too hard to use too little of your brain.
It's SJW retards that want to jump on it now that it's becoming "good" and destroying what it used to be that was "wrong" or the stupid thoughts that "if I jump it now, then it means I'm in the right because that's what the book is no, not the decades of history before it that allowed it to exist at all!"
You'd have to be stupid to think the people that kept Vampirella alive to this day want this for her.
Someone that actually reads Vampirella here, would all of you please kill yourselves since he's right, thanks.
Hey there >>76391147 here why the fuck are you tagging me in here? I'm just saying Vampi has been fighting evil since issue eight of Vampirella Magazine where Vampi gets the fake blood serum and meets the cult of chaos and then vows to destroy them and all the copies of the crimson chronicles. I fucking read Vampi, and I think the new costume is guady and Vampi would wear something more trendy.
I'm just saying Vampi was a hero from the very start. The story in issue 8 was the second story actually involving the character, so it wasn't that shocking when she turned here.
It's not really integral to her character but I do think she should stay with the bikini outfit. It's pretty iconic and kind of makes her stick out compared to chicks like Buffy and Selene from UNderworld
>Some guys are so worried IтАЩm gonna make Vampirella bland and PC and covered in a parka. Dudes, I got news for ya
>I also happen to find women super sexy and IтАЩm into vampires so like, have faith
It says nothing about the actual story quality, but at least we might get boobage.
>compared to chicks like Buffy
This is my main complaint about the the redesign. She doesn't look like Vampirella. She looks like some 30-something who pretends she's still in college.
It will get to a point where someone will make a cheesecake comic with tits everywhere and everyone will be "OH FINALLY, TITS! THIS IS REVOLUTIONARY!"
Humanity is like that. Eternal cycle, Ouroboros etc.
No I think this new costume looks stupid, but honestly there haven't been artists on par with the Vampirella old gaurd in ages, so being disappointed with Vampirella is kinda the norm for me.
We're also going to get weak attempts at Kate Leth's idea of humor, and I'd bet my bottom dollar more than a few patriarchy villains. A leopard never changes its spots.
Now you have more money to spend on other things.
I saw the stuff posted here. Not only is it bad, it breaks with the iconic nature of the characters. Like, really? Dynamite was slowly killing Vampirella and Sonja with the Collins/Simone stuff, and Warlord of Mars went south a long long time ago.
Which is a shame cause she had legitimately great runs. Also, the mike carey stuff was good as well.
Both Vampi and Sonja got written into corners. Dynamite editors weren't paying attention so the characters were left with nowhere to go. The Vampire Red Sonja arc was a horrid arc. How you mess up red sonja as a vampire will be something scientists will study for years.
>They cover Vampy up
>End up just making her hotter
I don't mind the redesigns for the most part, but I agree that the hair is off on Vampi and Sonja, plus it kinda looks like Vampi's wearing one of those full body-shaping spanx things beneath her red outfit.
I still love that he considers that role one of his favorites simply because his kids thought he was a kick-ass Skeletor.
It's not very good, even for what it is, but I love all those old Warren magazines. Also, it's been stated in this thread but throughout the 90's the Vampirella books had some obscene talent working on them.
Dejah Thoris is the only one that kinda looks decent because it remains faithful to the original design, but misses the point of the whole John Carter universe and is pretty generic.
Vampirella and Red Sonja both just look entirely bland and forgettable character re-designs.
I want to point out that Gail Simone is one of the people heading these designs, because being feminist means more than actually knowing anything about proper design
>Dejah Thoris is the only one that kinda looks decent because it remains faithful to the original design...
You mean the one where she's naked and adorned in jewels? The people of Barsoom don't cover the natural beauty of their bodies with anything but jewels, leather straps for weapons, and furs if it gets cold. Did you even read A Princess of Mars?
Female Van Helsing
Generic warrior woman
Okay, this is actually okay, but I'd change the hair to her original look and give her arms some more muscle like
I'm never gonna get a John Carter comic where everyone's outfits are true to the book, am I?
>I'm never gonna get a John Carter comic where everyone's outfits are true to the book, am I?
Well the original Warlord of Mars comics were the closest, but even then they had some things added for censoring purposes
>we want the movie audience
I prefer the sling bikini but I also prefer Vampirella as an alien so whatever.
Straight outta the Disney movie, which is alright, I guess.
>I don't even read this shit and I'm still upset
Literally autism: the post.
Say what you will about her original design, but at least it was unique.
Outfits come and outfits go, the sling bikini always makes a comeback. If this does anything for their sales, it will be a temporary bump at best, they're likely banking on a bad reaction so they can "listen to fan demand" and come back with new #1s with six regular covers each.
And I'd buy all damn six, like I have for the past 10 or so years.
Huge boner for comic babes and variant covers
>getting three characters most people never cared about
This is probably just the worst publisher in comics aside from Marvel kowtowing to Gail Simone. Just ignore the titles like you always did and they'll be back to normal before you know it.
True, I just always compare them to the Creepy and Eerie stuff, which are among the best horror comics ever made. Vampirella is nothing special next to those and has to be approached as more than a little schlocky to be really enjoyed.
pretty sure the sales numbers will tell them they fucked up
(or the variant covers - i.e. them being in their original designs will sell more and again tell them the redesigns are fucked)
stupid pc bullshit and femnazis/women empowerment
ORIGINAL SWJ CONTENT DO NUT STEAL
My 55 year old uncle's favorite comic book growing up was Vampirella.
I can't make myself break the news to him. I remember how pissed he was when they fucked up the Vampirella movie, and her outfit looked downright slutty compared to what Dynamite just pulled.
Yeah this new direction is kinda stupid. If they wanted to take it in a new direction and cover her up then she should just be wearing normal dresses and things. I mean Vampi is much more like Valentina than she is Buffy. Though Kate Leth is kinda tacky so it figures that that goth girl from NCIS as Van Helsing is the design she'd back.
I like how putting more clothes on females equates to progressive. Like is there a mathematical scale for it? However many square inches of bare flesh there are convert into whatever units of measurement the patriarchy is valued at?
All well, at least all you fat ugly tumblr cunts don't have to feel threatened by these cartoon women anymore. Congratulations I guess.
If you charted it out it would actually look weird graph wise. Nudity is slutty and sexist, but not in the case of slut walks, and then you get progressively more...progressive as clothes are put on, until you reach Muslim/Nun territory and it plummets again because you're denying their sexuality.
In general the rule of thumb to remember is "When a woman does it and no men are enjoying it. It's okay. Otherwise it's wrong."
>I like how putting more clothes on females equates to progressive. Like is there a mathematical scale for it?
I honestly think there is. I remember a while back in a thread where someone was asking for comics with good female protagonists; I suggested The Maxx which has Julie Winters/Leopard Queen, literally the first response I got was (greentext and all):
>Strong female character
The amount of clothes a female character has is the CORE component to these neo-conservatives
This makes me imagine a DnD nerd went out, found a crack whore, paid her a hundred bucks to dress up like his female barbarian character and come to a session to read out her lines. I mean Christ look at her expression and that fucking hair. That's exactly how she would look after she slurred out one of his shit lines of dialogue.
>We're not trying to take your comics away. That's why we're now taking cheesecake comics we never cared about before and completely changing them and if you don't like it you can get the fuck out you stupid misogynerd.
>I can defend something without partaking of it based on various grounds. I defend the rights of blacks without being black
So you're just an SJW that's suddenly getting negatively effected by the SJW's rampant war on American values.
You realize the publishers sought these artists/writers out, right?
As much of a heel as Leth is, she's not wringing her hands with Goldar and saying "WHAT BELOVED SMUT COMIC CAN I DESTROY NEXT?"
Dynamite has their finger on the pulse and they know attention, any attention, whether it's people like you throwing a shit fit, or people on blogs praising them, is good attention.
Yeah, sales on these books are nothing special. Dynamite is just trying different things hoping something will ignite.
My LCS already said he's not ordering the books any higher than before as only 2 or 3 people buy them, and they all are pre-orders.
>Publisher desperately shaking things up in an attempt to get more sales
>Because this shake up has a "SJW" flavor instead of them all getting new hats or going to space, /co/ gives them a shit ton of rage attention
>More attention means more publicity
>Redesigns stay longer than the usual few months they'd normally stay because it's working
All according to plan
Isn't it strange how, in this supposedly progressive era, when people are insisting that judgments of worth not be rendered based on appearance, will judge these characters based solely on their appearance?
Because that's what all of this hullabaloo seems to amount to.
Leno jaw and an outfit that looks like she should be a pokemon gym leader
Bland costume, retarded hair, and a face that suggests she is constantly smelling something unpleasant
Might make for a good Mortal Kombat character
Call me back when you have redesigns worth a fat hairy shit
That outfit isn't intimidating, it looks like something out of someone's ERP night. The woman herself is pretty built, but that's because of the artist, not the outfit. Make me curious as to how people would react to a Cho version of >>76390227
That's the thing with Dynamite's stuff. It's basically a niche of a niche market, and there's a small and dedicated pulp whatever market that'll by whatever comes down the pipe.
If they can draw in a few extra buyers by making everything steampunk, or giving heroines pants, more power to them.
>I like how putting more clothes on females equates to progressive. Like is there a mathematical scale for it? However many square inches of bare flesh there are convert into whatever units of measurement the patriarchy is valued at?
"Hmm... not quite liberal and progressive enough, ladies. Maybe a few more inches to cover up those knees?"
MEH, to all of them
Yet again much like the shitty new WW look they don't really put any real thought into the design past "cover them up" and what you get is this. Generic shit, that really doesn't even look anything like the characters they are supposed to be but doesn't even capture the spirit of the characters they are supposedly redesigns of. These could easily be some generic characters from any fantasy comic.
>>More attention means more publicity
>>Redesigns stay longer than the usual few months they'd normally stay because it's working
Eh I kind of doubt that given Dynamite doesn't have the same kind of push behind it that Marvel does.
